- Ted is terrified when he must make good after losing a bet, but his forfeit is to kick Bishop Brennan in the behind.
Beloved sitcom focused on three priests living on Craggy Island, a remote island off the west coast of Ireland. Father Ted Crilly is sent to the island as punishment for using charitable funds for a holiday in Las Vegas, but his true punishment comes in the form of Father Dougal Maguire and Jack Hackett, one a fresh-faced naive young priest, and the other a foul-mouthed, rage-filled alcoholic. Mrs Doyle is their nosy housekeeper, who makes plentiful pots of tea and never takes `no' for an answer. Despite their isolation, the priests get into their fair share of mildly sinful, entirely madcap adventures.

Jim Norton who played Bishop Leonard Brennan says he can't watch this episode because they had so much fun filming it makes him miss his friend too much.
I can see why. Dermot seems like a very nice guy to work with.

Aw, that's sad, but also good to hear. And I know it shouldn't be, but I find it kind of surprising, as he does such a good job of acting as if he despises Ted :P

Still I can't believe how genius the series is with two stand upers playing the main characters and third being a REAL bloody actor using just 3 words in general through all episodes ... Best thing ever.
I dont think I'd care for Ardal O'hanlon doing stand up, but if it was like "come hang out with Father Dougal McGuire" I would buy tickets immediately - no questions.

This had me in tears the first few times I saw it! And since sometimes it may be a long while before I get back around to this series/individual episodes, I forget some of the details, so it’s kind of like treating myself to it all over again haha (other series I adore such as Brother Cadfael have the same effect for some reason) 😅

The Bishop going into shock was hilarious. He found it totally inconceivable he would do that.
I can't explain it, but the subtlety of the cab driver just sitting in the car nonchalantly staring at the giant picture always makes me laugh

Jim Norton (Bishop Brennan) has said that he's never been able to watch this episode all the way through, because he keeps thinking about what a wonderful person Dermot Morgan was, and how he was taken before his time.
He died before I was even born, I never shared the world with him 😔 Such a sad reality

bishop Brennan is such a good actor I actually like his character
I think the episodes with him in it tend to be some of the best. When he's there, the whole thing is a chaos of "rock paper scissors" with all of them seemingly bouncing around at random, except it always comes together at the end in that wonderful way that British comedies tend to do. I think having the Bishop always upped the ante in terms of "how on earth are they going to tie these elements together" and made the stakes of failure so much worse for ted/more hilarious for us

This episode had me dying the whole way through anyway, but the part when Bishop Brennan finally “wakes up” and realizes Ted really *did* kick him up the arse, and the subsequent scenes after... holy crap. You know those abs hurting, tears flowing, start coughing sort of laughter moments? ? That was me, I just lost it !!😂 😂 😂

It took me this long to realize that Dougal convinced Ted to gaslight Len into thinking he didn't kick him up the arse.
The first time I saw this episode, I hadn't seen "The Plague". Now that I have, I get that Father Jack's imitating a rabbit during his fake apology to Bishop Brennan.

I used to loathe this episode after the over 75s footy match, anything with the bishop is too much a downer and Jessop is nasty but rewatching it now it works beautifully and there’s so many magical gags. Jessop got what was coming to him and Jim Norton is a pleasure to watch.

Has anyone ever wondered why they never show Mrs. Doyle's bedroom? I mean, I assume that she's a live-in housekeeper like Alice from "The Brady Bunch". But yet, we see Ted and Dougal's room, we see Jack's room, but never Mrs. Doyle's room.
Actually, there's an episode where she says she is going home for the day. You have probably figured that out by now lol

The hideous laundry hamper scene is one of the very few moments that actually made me feel sorry for one of Bishop Brennen's crew.
