Can never get tired of the RX-78-2. I think it is massively respectful for Bandai to use the OG Gundam as a means to introduce new techniques and ideas to the world of Gunpla. They don't forget where they came from.
I think this kit is exceptional, but I can't help thinking about what other MS need this treatment like my favorite GP01/GP01FB. Oh lawd, if that got a 2.0 release 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
My condolences on getting the single worst RG representation of your favorite Gundam, the RG#13 GP01FB, which incidentally was my first gunpla and despite its flaws made me fall in love with the hobby. I really want the PG though, it looks amazing.
@@gundamartz Maybe they are waiting for a strong enough frame to handle all those giant weapons? Like if we get a Lupus Rex rg with that monstrous mace.
Welcome back! I hope you're doing well and that all is good. Design-wise I much prefer the MG 2.0 and 3.0/RG#01 designs, the reason being the monocoque aspect of the chassis, since the Gundam was built with the outer frame as an integral part of the whole. The new RG does not look like it has this in mind, it looks very split apart. I personally prefer the inside chest vents to the outside ones, at least on the RX-78-2 as well as the #01 colors. However, I do like the much bulkier proportions on the #02, which is in line with a lot of concept art and the Mk-2. You're, of course, spot on about the difference between the two kits. The #01 has been fairly judged as a loose kit and a parts-dropper compared to even the RG #02 (Char's Zaku II), which holds together much better. The #01 was always a loose kit even for its age, but it was, as you also mention, an experiment, a dream-pusher to see how far they could go at the time and then learn from. I think everyone who collects RG gunpla should own the #01 to appreciate how far the line has come and it's still an interesting kit with much more part separation than many of the later RG's. This always comes up whenever Bandai releases a grandpappy or the Unicorn, 'it's yet another...' is a fair point, but with the grandpappy itself it's different since the designs and builds are always new variations that make them interesting to get, whether it's HG/RG/MG/PG or whether you're a builder/painter/collector. Ironically the statement that it's 'yet another' doesn't really apply since they're always radically different in some way. The G40 for example is in my mind a design abomination and utter failure, but despite that, it's very interesting. Thanks for the review!
Thank you for your comment! Everything is good on my side. I had a summer break from YT and social media to gain some fresh energy, clear my head (YT is a hard game unfortunately) spend some good summer time and start a new season from September with full force. Missed some new hot releases because of that but I will review them at some point. Narrative Ver.Ka is my next video. And about the RG 2.0. Brother you got me with MKII reference. It’s total true and yes I see that now! Hope that MkII will also get 2.0 but overall I love the original. I need to buy AEUG ver and review it along with my Titans ver. Great piece of a model. And I think that MkII deserves more love from Bandai and community. It is little in the shadow I think. About „yet another…” - my main problem is that there is so many great Gundams that needs a model kit more than another Uni or RX782. But you got the point. And it’s the 45th anniversary so I’m not mad about another grandpa this time. Diversity in Grandaddy line is great and we can pick what we like the most. I totally need Beyond Global - love how simple it is and „anime like” but with over the top posing gimmicks. And totally agree - g40 is like a „kill me” design😂 Still - I wish for some new IBO kits with some awesome tech (MGSD Barbie is my spark of hope for the future). This year is good, a lot of good kits and hope that 2025 will be truly amazing and even better. And I had a dream that 1/100 will return with full force and 10 new kits lineup in 2025. I want to believe! Hope you are great at your end and wish you all the best!
I understand what you get when you say it’s an incredible model but amongst other models which in their own right are also incredible it just blends in, but hey it’s the rx78-2 atleast he’s the newest one! That’s how I look at it! This 2.0 looks like the RG version of the RX-78-2 Origin while the 1.0 looks like the RG version of the original RX-78. I prefer the aesthetic and proportions of the 1.0 except for the light blue torso segments.
Great video. Yet, am I the only in the world that, while admitting this is a prodigy as for the used technology, thinks this guy is NOT RX78/2? The opening torso doesn't work that way in the cartoon, neither does the way the Coreblock connects to the Gundam (the latter issue is shared with the RG 1.0). What about the Unicorn-like grey "stripe" on the red lower back, and what about the vulcans, which are grey instead of yellow? Bandai totally sacrificed screen-accuracy to poseability and gimmicks: it's hard for me to accept this, as I loved the MG 2.0 right because it was the perfect reproduction of what we watched on TV...
Hello my friend. Thank you for your comment. Well I totally get what you mean brother, believe me. We need to keep in mind that the whole reason for a Real Grade was a redesign concept to more „real life mecha and tech” experience and not anime accuracy type of thing. For me personally some of RG are too much and I don’t like some of the choices if it comes to appearance so I get you. But we need to keep in mind the reason for this grade. I hope that we will see advanced kits that are very „anime” like grade in 1/144 scale (as High Grades do better and better with each release) or even 1/100. I like over the top designs also that are very „mechanical” with dozens of details so yeah - matter of personal taste with each release. But I truly understand your feeling as I had the same problem with some redesigns in the past. But on the good side - we can choose what fits best for us and our taste. Also you can check Robot Damashii if you are into action figures. They are very anime like experience if you are looking for better visual representation of your favorite series.
@SunAlucard I can confirm - no fitting issues in my copy. Assembled and disassembled 7 times. Or you talk about the shape of the head armor itself. Maybe there is a feeling that Vulcans are blocked just a little, and I mean JUST A LITTLE (like 10% of plastic from the head armor side, and still I’m talking about macro scale) in some perspectives on videos/photos if I look really close at it - but otherwise - no fitting problems at all. In person you can’t see anything disturbing and it looks perfectly normal. Hope that most copies are fine.
