@roguehobbies I've been subbed for a long time. I came for the 40k, I'm mostly a lore guy. I have a disease that makes it hard to build and paint with shakey hands. Then Rascal Town came 🎉❤ and now I'm reliving my youth with Gundam models! I love this channel!
These days, I really gravitate towards creators who are unabashedly enthusiastic about their enjoyment of the hobby. Don't lose that sincerity mate! It's really refreshing. Too many channels can't help themselves from having a whinge about something or another and it's becoming really trite. We paint little plastic toys, it should "spark joy"!
@@caseco4979 meh, I feel like you cant blame ehm too much there. Their criticisms were pretty justified for how much effort they put in and how poorly organized the comp was. From what I can tell, they're all back on the fun train after the single disheartening event.
Not only is the build and paintting of the MS excellent, but the diorama is suberb. I _love_ the idea and execution, and the composition put a delighted smile on my face. It was like looking at something straight from my favorite Gundam series, Gundam Build Fighters.
You should be very proud of this work. Not only did you paint Aeriel beautifully, your concept of turning the workspace into the diorama is inspired. Just amazing work.
I'm 61 years old, I have been building kits since I was 5. Your diorama was Brilliant! I have watched your videos and let me tell you, your work is World Class!
I'm about 2 years into building gunpla, and it's always great to see new people getting into the hobby. Especially people who bring skills from other hobbies. I think gunpla builders can learn a lot from Warhammer builders and vise versa.
Its great to see someone showing off their passions regardless of how "popular" it might be, me and my little boy absolutely loved this video (He's even asked Santa for a Gundam too), very much looking forward to seeing your gundam journey continue if you choose to do so
My gosh Louise... it's impossible not to grin watching you talk about your passion. Good luck on your journey and I can't wait to see the future projects you dream up!
I'm mind blown by the handpainted point pots. I came from the other side of 25 years of gunpla and starting Warhammer last year. What I learnt is I wished I did more variety of kits, miniature modelers are good at details and fine motor skills, gunpla modelers tend to be better at kit modding and mechanical bits as the larger scale gives more space for creativity, and military modelers are really good at weathering and diorama as they strive for realistic recreation.
Your previous video got me into something I would never have thought of. I bought 2 HG Gunpla kits during a holiday sale for $35. I really enjoyed the assembly aspect. After building those 2 kits I have a MG Gundam Heavyarms on the way as a Crimbo present to myself. Thanks Louise!
Your whole diorama is so inspired. My mind went rushing with all the possibilities that you could do with this idea in mind. I imagine the paint pots morphs into cylindrical buildings, sprues flows into trees, rivers into spilled paints flowing out of a tub etc. Not to mention, your whole enthusiasm is soo infectious that I couldn't help grinning throughout the whole video.
honestly that was such a creative diorama. it beautifully captures the the countless Japanese manga inspired artworks of this hobby, and looks like a snapshot come to life. You absolutely deserve all the praise for this model it came out incredible.
On the surface, the theme seems like a clever out, but you took it to the next level by repainting everything. I really like that the whole theme gives a credit to the hobby itself. Really awesome video. You do nice work.
I love your paint style so much! The cartoony, painterly nature of it is so appealing and unique in the super smooth world of miniature painting content.
Excellent idea and execution. BTW. I think it's my first time watching any of your videos, and you are such a positive, enthusiastic and nice person - it is a pleasure seeing you on the screen. Keep it up and congrats on your win!
That has to be hands down one of the loveliest and most creative build I’ve seen. I love that the dichotomy of the hobby desk and the living world the hobbies is creating. Fantastic. I’m glad you’re proud. You most definitely should be. I know it’s easy to self doubt and we’re our own worst critic and all but my haha off to you Miss. well done
I absolutely love seeing hand painted gunpla. While I also appreciate seeing the clean airbrushing style popular in Asia, theres just something so cool about seeing the way people stand out with their way of painting thats not just about getting as clean paint jobs as possible. You're totally an inspiration along with last year's GBWC winner Simon/Chessymonkey keep it up!!! 🔥
Yours and MS Paint's videos have really given me the Gunpla bug after close to 30 years of Warhammer and other tabletop. My wife and I ordered a bunch of kits for Christmas, and we can't wait to start working on them. As always, your work is inspiring.
The fact that you hand painted that Ariel, holy crap that was beautiful! And the paint bottles. Lord have mercy, those look super real. lol Awesome job!! I can't wait to see more that you do! And BTW... If Gundam Building is something you really get into, Kit Bashing will become easy. lol Save all your spare parts!
Your diorama is a better concept than you give it credit for. It's a grounded theme based on the hobby itself but lined and woven with all the wonderful colors and details owing to your experience in 40k minis. It doesn't overwhelm the senses like some entries do but points the viewer to the right direction and has a straightforward, honest message. You have every reason to be proud of that diorama 🙏
You should not refer to yourself as an amateur in the genre, because it doesn't matter how long you have been modelling any specific genre of models, rather it maters how long you have been in the srtform itself and really, gluing a plastic model kit together is more or less easy, it is the final painting that requires the most skill and experience, and, as you have discovered, your talents took you to second place in the regionals! so all your years spent painting Warhammer and similar items is what I would consider top tier training for your work in the Gunpla competition. Your diorama was exceptional and painting it the way you did is also one of the primary forms that has been getting a lot of attention in the modelling world in the recent six to eight months. So although I am not a regular viewer of your channel, I am happy for you and wish to congratulate your success in the competition! Cheers!
My favourite game with dioramas is picking my favourite tiny part. With this one its the transition where the sprue goes over the border from the mat to the "real world"
Do it, get a cheap HG kit (the cheapest ones in that tend to be about $12! Add in shipping and that's still under 30!) and you can just use nail clippers and a nail file to put it together if you don't want to get the nippers for it. And like the comments on the last vid said, you DO NOT need to get the super expensive nippers either, if you want you can get basics there too! I'm using a $10 pair that the online store that my last big order came from sells, it's fiiiine
Congratulations on your 2nd-Place win Louise! You deserve it, this is so wonderful!!! The concept of combining your hobby workspace with the fantasy world is gorgeously realized and actually made me gasp when you rolled the beauty-shots I did not care about Gundam in the slightest, and yet your videos make me want to go get a kit and paint it up - it looks like so much fun!! I genuinely hope to see more Gunpla content on your channel, should the subject continue to inspire you~💖
The manga style paint job/weathering and the hobby board display is quite genius. I've literally never thought about that display before at all... Hopefully the next entry will get further.
Good luck Louise! I hope myself one day to enter the GBWC if I can get my skills up to snuff. I'm always thrilled to see other hobbiests enter the Gunpla youtube space, cause it's awesome!
@@roguehobbies thank you so much! I think you bring something very unique with your diorama, and a 'whimsical' vibe that hasn't been seen at the GBWC in a lot of years. I been on a Gundam kits marathon, and ended up buying my first kit and tools, still waiting for them to arrive but you convinced me to start with this. I have never built anything on my life and never been good in any craftsmanship but this video made me learn about the grades, collections and all the basic stuff needed to start. Thank you so much
Congratulations getting 2nd place! Imagine what else you can do with more time, it would probably boost you to the top. Your positivity is truly inspiring, for someone who is always been into gunpla. I watched your first gunpla video multiple times already and I've been using it as inspiration to start building again. Cheers, Louise!

Congratulations! The piece looks incredible. As someone who has not built and painted or entered a GBWC in over 15 years seeing your work and your enthusiasm has definitely created a spark to try the hobby again.
The 2nd pass on the cutting mat was a big improvement, it looked way more like it did before you painted it... is this a strange new rabbit hole of painting things to look like they have not been painted?
I love your enthusiasm Louise, it's contagious. I almost always come away from your videos wanting to go hobby, even if your video that day isn't on my specific niche of the hobby. Thanks for being you and sharing that enthusiasm with the rest of us.
After your video about gundams being cheap, I looked into it and bought and built a model for 20 bucks. Imagine my surprise when you sketched your model and it's exactly the gundam I have. Althoug I went for SG instead of HG for the beginning, I kind of felt inspired seeing that Aerial :D
Never been on your channel before, just clicked because it was suggested, but your piece actually made me cry. Not even sure why-maybe because it perfectly captures the joy of model building and making. I could really feel your happiness when you found out you’d won second place. Your work is incredible, and I’m so glad I got to see it.
You are a BADDDD influence(R) - I bought my first Gundam (HG) model yesterday - I picked one for looks/color/accesorries - I don't need another hobby I don't do/start - but the pre-colored plastic and snap assembly features are VERY appealing!!! Not everyone who watches paint videos actually has time/patience/focus to paint (at any scale). :P
WOW!! well done to you! i am looking forward to more Gunpla content from you, i got started on this amazing road after watching you build the God Gundam. I never thought anything like this could be so calming and therapeutic.
Not only did you get me into painting miniatures but also got me to buy my first gunpla this week, which just so happened to be Ariel HG lmao. I have asked Santa for the #13 backpack kit for it for Christmas.
I have been building Gunpla since I was about 16 (roughly 10+ years) and I gotta say your diorama was amazing I have entered this contest myself before and you don't see too many things like that where real world meets gunpla. Can't wait to see what you do next year keep up the good work! From one gunpla builder to another, much love!
Great looking model and congrats on 2nd place! Love the concept you came up with. I have been building Gunpla since earlier this year and I am fighting the urge to get into the painting side of things for the sake of time. Watching this video didn't help! haha
This video is amazing, not only the diorama idea is really creative, but you pure passion and joy for something new is heartwarming. I hope we can keep watching you having fun with whatever you try!
A well deserved clipart trophy! I love seeing techniques from around the hobby universe brought to gunpla- miniature-style brush painting and train layout style terrain and military vehicle style weathering- even as mostly a straight builder myself I can appreciate a good looking robit and THAT is a good looking robit!
Without putting down first place, I have to say your execution and concept were stronger. Your weathering was thought out rather than "beat up every edge because it exists" and "fill each crevice with weathering because it exists" which is a common pitfall with damage and wear. The care and details of the diorama were outstanding as well. Congratulations on your podium!! Excellent all the way around.
Wow! Congratulations! 🎉 Your vision to create that diorama is inspirational. The joyful enthusiasm that you bring to all things hobby is why I keep finding myself back at your channel. Keep on keeping on.
I loved both the final entry and your way of storytelling it. I've watched some other channels show their route to a competition piece, and none of them really captured my interest like yours did. I think the bit showing the sketching process was really phenomenal, as was the amount of time you spent on the actual paining (minimal, but still showing it). The hobby desk painting parts really reminded me of the illusion cakes they do on Great British Bake Off (also the American "Is It Cake" show). Really cool to see, and nice to see channels branching out from GW stuff, which as much as I like them, it is nice to see what else is out there.
BTW that's actually the Principality of Zeon flag from Mobile Suit Gundam. They did some really bad stuff in the show so I guess their flag being similar to that of the Nazis is pretty cool
Your first video encouraged me to finally pull the trigger and today I got my very first gunpla kit for Christmas. Thank you for providing an entry point for someone who knew nothing about these kits
LOVED this video, I'm a hardcore Warhammer fan but an even bigger process fan! ❤️ Great to see something on this scale, it looks incredible and massive congrats!!🎉
Congratulations for the well-deserved second place! I absolutely love the idea of the diorama (the model coming to life and summoning its pieces…). Brilliant! 👍
I've really been gravitating to gunpla stuff more and more lately. If I'm honest 99% of my hobby time, when it comes to Warhammer stuff, is building and painting with 1% actually playing, and honestly I enjoy the building and painting so much more. I've just started getting into gunpla, knowing and caring nothing about the actual franchise, just picking out cool looking robots to build. I hope the gunpla stuff becomes a regular feature of your channel!
This is honestly such a fresh take on gundam that only a tabletop hobbyist would have. The gunpla space rn is really hard into hard mechanical militarism, and though bandai has also tried to capture the beauty of the gunpla from a more pulled back and hobbyesque approach (see the build series) i havent gotten to see anyone tackle the hyper realist blend of both worlds as well as this project. Good luck on GBWC!
Your whole concept is such a unique and great idea for a competition, I'm so glad you won 2nd! The weathering on the Gundam and the paint pots is unreal to look at in a still frame
Congrats Louise, very well deserved 2nd place🏆Such a cool video, can't say gunpla will ever be my thing, but I can sure appreciate the hell out of it! Please keep doing videos like this and make sure you enter next years comp 😊
OMG Louise! That is just glorious. I am so excited for you. Incredible creativity, the incorporation of the tools and mat are whimsical and tne execution was brilliant. Congratulations.
It's so much fun watching someone enjoy their hobby and create content that's positive and uplifting at the same time. Heck, I want to build a gundam now ... but there's a ton of other projects I really should be finishing first as well. I guess that's one more item on my bucket list :D
This was really cool! As someone who has been building Gunpla models for decades, it's always so much fun seeing someone new find the hobby I love so much! Hope we get to see your first Perfect Grade build!
The concept spunded really cool but holy cow, the exection. Absolutely no surprise you placed with that. Everything looked absolutely amazing. Makes me want to do something with my gunpla kits other than them sitting on their flight stands.
I love this! I really like the natural terrain (beautiful nature) contrasting with the hobby desk. The hand painted detailing on the gundam shows both intention and skill. I love the whole concept and how creative and passionate people with hobbies like these are truly inspiring.
I have been a gunpla enthusiasts for 20 years now, it is so great to see a new person enjoy gunpla. Your entry is really cool and unique, congratulations on winning 2nd place, I hope you make a video building the PG Gunpla.
I've been building and painting for a couple years and this is absolutely stunning. Your kit itself almost looks like one of those cell shaded kits that look like they are popping off the paper, and your overall diorama tells an amazing story, which is difficult for a lot of people to do. You def got a sub from me and can't wait to see more gunpla content
That is incredible!!!! The merge of the hobby world and the Gundam world is genius!! I've made a few model kits over the years (mainly cars and even those are box art painted) the imagination that went into this brilliant congrats on the 2nd place.
Damn congrats ! What I like most about these types of competitions, is the out of the box thinking that goes into turning a hobby piece into art. You just did that perfectly !
Such a cool video Louise, huge congratulations on 2nd! What a cool email to receive, your Gundam scene looked great. Again, thanks for the video, helps a lot!
This is really cool. As a very casual Gundam fan (I've watched the original series movies, and a couple episodes of other series) it's always impressive to see someone dive in headfirst into it. I really liked your enthusiasm and congratulations on the award.

From one gunpla builder to another, much love!
so awesome! you re a crazy skilled artist. Nothing but respect to you
I appreciate that :') 🙏
Thank you algorithm. I have no previous interest in gundam, model kits, warhammer, but this video popped up and it was so cool. Great job!
Excellent work what a lovely paint job.
Congrats!! What a lovely idea and execution!
I think the theme and execution of the mock crafting station puts your submission above the 1st place winner
Wow! Congratulations! 🎉 Your vision to create that diorama is inspirational.
The joyful enthusiasm that you bring to all things hobby is why I keep finding myself back at your channel. Keep on keeping on.
Wow, thank you buddy 🥹
Bandai Senpai noticed meeee
I loved both the final entry and your way of storytelling it. I've watched some other channels show their route to a competition piece, and none of them really captured my interest like yours did. I think the bit showing the sketching process was really phenomenal, as was the amount of time you spent on the actual paining (minimal, but still showing it). The hobby desk painting parts really reminded me of the illusion cakes they do on Great British Bake Off (also the American "Is It Cake" show). Really cool to see, and nice to see channels branching out from GW stuff, which as much as I like them, it is nice to see what else is out there.
23:22 lol😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You're such a positive influence on the community and should be so proud of everything that you do for the miniatures hobby!
21:27 that one is pretty cool. Pose is a reference to the Battle Of Iwo Jima and the flag is a reference to the Nazi's reichskriegsflagge war flag.
Thank you for providing an entry point for someone who knew nothing about these kits
...... Please release the video immediately 🙏🏼😊
@@miller413 🤣 soon!
LOVED this video, I'm a hardcore Warhammer fan but an even bigger process fan! ❤️ Great to see something on this scale, it looks incredible and massive congrats!!🎉
Congratulations on second place! It was amazing to see the design and thought process behind this fantastic diorama.
This is amazing and you always bring so much joy to everything you do. 🎉 congrats
Your whole concept is such a unique and great idea for a competition, I'm so glad you won 2nd! The weathering on the Gundam and the paint pots is unreal to look at in a still frame
Congratulations! Its nice being able to jump into comments and dole out praise for once! Great job
I had no idea this tournament existed, this is freaking amazing 😂 some of those exclusive Gundam models are crazy cool!
I accidentally came onto your Channel. I was really glad I got here. I wanted to learn how to hand-paint my Gunpla and yours turned out AMAZING.
Congrats!! I never thought about entering the competition but it's very inspiring hearing your story. I love your concept.
Excellent concept for a piece. Excellently executed. Great work, not surprised by the win!
I love this! I really like the natural terrain (beautiful nature) contrasting with the hobby desk. The hand painted detailing on the gundam shows both intention and skill. I love the whole concept and how creative and passionate people with hobbies like these are truly inspiring.
Congratuations on a well deserved placing! I love the concept you used, it tells a great story and fits the Ariel perfectly
I have been a gunpla enthusiasts for 20 years now, it is so great to see a new person enjoy gunpla. Your entry is really cool and unique, congratulations on winning 2nd place, I hope you make a video building the PG Gunpla.
congratulations on a great result! I really like your enthusiasm in your videos.
You seem so kind! Great videos! Keep up the good work ♥️
Damn congrats !
