Banana Fish: Episode 21 Reaction! "The Undefeated!"

  • Okay, Banana Fish, you gave us in this episode some heartwarming bonding moments between Ash and Eiji, bringing the gangs together, and tying together loose threads...all the while introducing a new character in the eleventh hour, upping the ominous atmosphere, and establishing a new sense of anxiety as we reach the climax of this series...
Foxx scares me a LOT, and I don't like the vibes I'm getting from the show as we enter these last few episodes. It has me...the most nervous I've been for this show. HRRMMM...
Thank you for all the support!

Me when other animes introduce new characters: ooh how nice
Me when Banana Fish introduces new people: no, pls go away now
I love the opening scene. It was Ash speak for "Thanks for patching me up, but I'm a bratty teenager so I'm gonna pretend that it hurt"
Eiji, the charm worked! I loved the scene where they were like "I'm never getting married" as if they're not nearly a married couple already 😁
You're absolutely right about Blanca vs Foxx. Also, while Blanca is scary, he's not creepy. Foxx made me sick from the first scene. He activated my fight-or-flight response immediately.
Yut-Lung's hair really tells a story. When we first met him, he had this simple, demure ponytail to match the innocent persona he was trying to give off. When he was "presented to" Golzine in episode 9, his hair was in this very intricate style. In episode 20, both Blanca and Ash used his hair against him. And now that he's in frantic desperation mode, his hair is loose and out of control...like him.

RIGHT?! Banana Fish and new characters = Nope x 10000
The Ash and Eiji moments in this were so good! And YES! The charm DID work!! It's like, "Boys! Just realize it! It's love, darnnit!" XD
Blanca is scary because we know how strong he is, but he's not menacing.
Foxx is scary because he just pops up and DOESN'T immediately show us his hand, and IS super menacing.
Yeah, I was NOT having him at all this episode! And that is such a cool symbol for his state of being! I really like that analysis you have, here. Yeah, frantic/desperate Dragon Moon is beautiful -- with his hair down -- but also terrifying. **doesn't like it**
Thanks so much for the comment!!

Foxx referring to Ash as Golzine’s son creeps me the hell out, just.... a whole lotta nope! I wish Ash and Cain’s parts together had been more fleshed out like in the manga. Despite all of the action, the manga was so dialogue heavy and I loved it. On a lighter note, I find Bones incredibly adorable, especially in that hoodie for some reason. Wish we’d gotten more of him and Ash’s gang in general in the whole series.

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

EW, yes, it's the creepiest in context now. Foxx is just NOPE in general, I've decided.
And YES! I'm just getting to that part in the manga and there was SO much that was left out of this part -- they could have easily made this two episodes! I guess if they were on a 24-episode limit, this was the place to cut because all the extra material we get isn't "technically" needed, but still...makes me appreciate the manga that much more! :)
Thank you so much for the comment!

Yeah, this episode really feels pretty fast paced.
Max is a really good father figure.
Foxx is probably the character I'm most afraid of because for him killing is just fun,so he wouldn't hesitate to kill someone.
It's good that Jessica realized she still loves Max but girl please don't go back.
Yut-lung is always pretty but he looks really gorgeous with his hair down.
The good luck charm for love really worked. Thanks little sister.XD
Hope you have a good day!!

    • @RomaniaBlack

This episode was SO fast! I can't wait to talk about the manga in the TH-cam live chat I'm going to do, because there is SO MUCH in the volume where this episode takes place that we're NOT shown -- it makes sense why it was cut, but it does stretch out parts of the series in interesting ways, especially explaining Foxx more.
And Max is just the friggin' BEST. I have really come to love his character over the course of this series!
And yes, Foxx is the person I'm most fearful because he seems "True Evil," whereas Golzine was more "lawful evil," Yut-Lung "Chaotic evil" and Blanca "True neutral." **nervous laugh**
I do really like that Jessica finally admits she does still like Max, but GIRL. Can you NOT give us all a heart attack in the process?!
And yes, I agree that Yut-Lung with his hair down is best Yut-Lung!

Ash's strategy - "I give up." Over and over, he surrenders because of hostages. Yet...that never seems to be his actual weakness. Is this simply another repeat of the pattern, or will this time see him finally pay the price?
Foxx is an interesting character - a true (psycho) hunter, who enjoys the chase with a talented opponent. He's a detached third-party, true. Will he also turn out to have a weakness Ash can exploit?
Yut-Long - his talent/training is in poisons and I think we shouldn't forget that that sort of mindset is very different from direct attack and physical force like Ash and everyone else tend to use. Poison the body, poison the mind, poison the situation - roundabout and no one sees it coming or has much of a defense against it, if he does it right. Poison practitioners used to poison themselves to build up immunity because they daren't trust anyone. All his life, Yut-Long has been poisoning himself with dark thoughts and believed that made him stronger. He can't or won't accept that Ash has found a different way to live amongst poison - that would make his whole life irrelevant and pointless. While I love Ash and Eiji and Max, Yut-Long is so very frustrating (in a good way, story-wise) because I want him to see the light and he just keeps turning his back to it, digging himself in deeper and deeper.

    • @RomaniaBlack

Awesome comment! Thank you! Yeah, this "seesaw from hell" as I put it in the reaction is how I feel with Banana Fish -- I mean, it's worked well in the past, so why not now? But I really don't like where this is going. **nervous laugh**
And yes, FINALLY a detached third party that has no (current) connection to Ash. I'm not sure -- his character unnerves me for how serious but also unhinged he seems. Ew. Not liking it. At. All. >.<
And man, Yut-Lung has been a CHARACTER in this series, hasn't he? He literally poisons everything around him, and I like how we're seeing the comparisons and contrasting elements with Ash and him. Ugh, I love that description you put where he's turning his back to the light and digging a deeper hole -- that's exactly how I feel, too! The man just needs some love! Where's his Eiji? Hmmm...
Thank you for the comment! It's all downhill from here!

Many times the ending song is played during the show itself. It does a really good job of linking the action of the show to the song. I didn't think Jessica was saying that she needed to tell Max she loved him as much as not being able to leave him alone to fight off Fox. It's more of a desire to help him than anything else.
You look like you're slowly going insane as the episodes progress. XD The show does a good job of not giving away what's going to happen next, though I do agree this episode was kind of rushed. Thanks for the reaction!

Yessss, the ending song playing during the last parts have been so good this series! I get that Jessica doesn't want to leave Max...ahh...but girl...I just get afraid she's going to do something crazy and it will end badly. And Banana Fish isn't afraid to go there, so you know... The next few episodes give me just as much anxiety as this 😂
Great reaction - things are a little different in the manga, there’s a few things left out of the anime but it doesn’t take away from the story too much. Col Foxx is a late addition, but just as dangerous as any other villain.
I’d recommend once you finish the final episode to read the final extra from the manga, called ‘Garden of Light.’ It shows how events happened years after the end of the story.
Really looking forward to the next episode 😊

Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, as I'm gearing up for the last few episodes, I've started reading the manga and this episode could have easily been two with all the extra stuff we get on Foxx and Ash and the gangs. Yes, Foxx terrifies me! OH! And as for Garden of Light:

I think Fox is the only storyline that I didn't like in this series. For the threat level, yes, but I think he was introduced way too late in the game for it to... feel fair lol? This whole episode came off a bit rushed because of it. Some foreshadowing earlier on might have helped but I also didn't care for his motives. I'll be interested to see your take on him by the end of the series. I think if they were going to add another big baddie, they should have tied him to Blanka. Maybe make it his old mentor, personality stripped and almost robotic, cleaning up his mess and showing contempt for his personally shown weakness for his wife and now Ash.
Remember when all we were dealing with was some basic mafia/gang warfare? Lol as Dr. Strange put it, "We're in the endgame now."

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Foxx has been SUCH a wrench in this whole thing! I will say, I've been reading the manga, and there's a lot more to Foxx than the anime shows -- which I hope to talk about later with you all when I go over the manga vs. anime. I've only read up to the episodes I'm reacting to, so there may even be more to say...and his motives. Yeah, I definitely think tying him to Blanca would have probably made more sense! I guess this is more...realistic? Hmmm...
And yeah! Remember when we thought ARTHUR was the big baddie?! Ahahahahahahahahahahaa...that was fun.

The annoyance I felt when our groupchat suddenly pops up and I have to participate(to have grades lol) in the middles of watching this reactionn!!
Anyways...The only calming point we have in this episode is the 'goodluck' charm for love part, which is in the beginning...
It's also good that Jessica is in action, for me tho hahaha...We need Max and Jessica's problematic relationship for comic relief too...

the good thing about the banana fish fandom is that they'd kill themselves before spoiling the ending. Everyone understood that the real banana fish experience is to go into it blind and thats lovely.
Anyways, Eduardo Foxx is such a scary character just because he has no connection to Ash in the slightest, he wants to kill, he finds it fun, and he knows nothing about Ash. Golzine always ends up losing cause he wants to torture, not kill, he has some creepy 'romance' stuff going on. Blanca is neutral yet extremely biased. Yut Lung is a good thinker and strategist but sucks at fighting, with no help he's a nobody. Foxx has the strategy, the lack of attatchment, the fighting skills and the help + he's crazy and overconfident. He is the perfect combination of the other 3 + completely overpowered.

Hey. I agree with you about the rushness of this episode, I feel like there could have been two more episodes. Or 50. I mean, with all the Asheiji we need to heal, 50 doesn't seem too much. A full shoot of fluff between the action scenes is a good rhythm, I think, and here there wasn't enough. We didn't have the time to breathe between two bad guys, in a show that's already breathtaking enough. It's not right. Bad banana fish, baaaaad.
The scenes at Frog's club were important I think. But at my first watch I was like : wait who's this? what are we doing? why? how? what ? should I care? Where are we? Who's this again? Oh it's over already... Wait what ?
I was so confused, it seemed like a filler cause it felt so disconnected from the rest, not because of the subject, but because of the rhythm of it all. Ash almost lost it in this scene with Frog (who wouldn't?), but it wasn't long enough, not enough time to build tension. Thank god for Max here btw, he stopped Ash from a cold-blooded kill. Max is first quality Dad in this episode, I loved it, when he burned Ash's pictures, aawwww. So bad that all of this was rushed... And, Ash referred to himself as a dead guy two times in these scenes, which hurts me hard cause I want him happy 🥺
Blanca throwing truths to Yut-Lung is life 🤩 It makes me like Blanca a little, but it annoys me so fuckin' much that he always ends up bowing to the master in the end. Like :
"I'm not here to kill Eiji but only to protect u Yut-Lung, haha, what a clever ruse, owned! "
"Blanca, stop being a smartass and kill Eiji"
    "No"
    "Yes"
    "... ok, I will"
    What. The. Fuck Blanca !?!!
And now, look at him, telling a truth to Yut-Lung, a truth that could make Yut-Lung introspect and grow, but then, just apologising for telling it just because Yut-Lung angrily said his name. Ugh, Blanca, grow a clit will ya ? ... 🙄
Sing was absolute baby in this episode, I mean, the child-like relief on his face when Ash said he's gonna take charge, and the way Sing pulled Ash's shirt like a kid to his dad, he's so cuuuuute my poor babychineseboss 🥰
Bless Eiji too. The hot water scene proves how much he's useful to this cause, even if he's completely ignorant of gang's life. Ash was literally panicking here, and we rarely see him panic. There's reason for it, indeed, he knew every villain so far, so it's easy to put pressure, to predict villain's moves, when u can understand their motivation, to a certain degree. But with Foxx, with a mercenary, a serial killer who is highly paid to psychopathize, he doesn't have a clue about the ennemi here. But then Eiji arrives with hot beverage because that's what Japanese soulmate do, he conforts Ash with his very existence, he asks one question and Ash's brain is back on tracks. This is why we need Eiji.
Nice reaction as always, see you at episode 22 😉

Thank you so much for this comment! I've been slowly (but surely) catching up with the manga in preparation for the last few episodes and I honestly thought in reading Volume 16 into Volume 17 that Episode 21 could have easily been two episodes -- there's a LOT that is left out that's in the manga. Granted, most of it is building up Foxx's character and dialogue with the gangs and Ash...but with it cut, it does make the anime feel a tiny bit rushed. I get why they did it, though, as it doesn't impact the plot a "lot." Same with the set up of Frog. I do love that Max is best man for burning the photos and essentially "freeing" a tiny part of Ash from his past.

    Hi! Romania Black♪
Thank you for always delivering a wonderful reaction💞 I love your reaction!!
As usual, I will make review comments while holding down the points that I was interested in.
     ※There is no spoiler, so don't worry👍
    👇
As I say every time, Episode 21 was also full of highlights!
And this time too, there was no rest in our hearts💦
From beginning to end, we were relieved, anxious, smiling, screaming, and our emotions were shaken😫
Since the Ash, etc. came safely escaped from Blanca in the previous ending, beginning scene was seen with peace of mind just a little bit.
Even in the calm conversation scene on the rooftop of the building of Ash and Eiji, the air of the two people was flowing as usual, and a little cute argument warmed my heart.
And Ash explained to Eiji about Blanca too.
Also, the conversation about "Good Luck Charm" that Eiji's younger sister gave him before leaving Japan seems to suggest that it is "inevitable and fate" that Ash and Eiji met in the United States, it was an impressive scene.
As you may have noticed, this "Good Luck Charm" that Eiji received from his younger sister contains a prayer saying "May I meet a wonderful partner🙏".
This "Good Luck Charm" is called "Omamori" in Japanese.
"Omamori" is an auspicious item with people's wishes such as warding off evil, good luck, and blessing.
Then, the type and efficacy spans a wide variety. Eiji's Omamori is one of the things that pray for blessing (=good luck).
This "Omamori" can be purchased at shrines and temples all over Japan.
For proper efficacy, it is usually carried in a wallet, attached to a bag, or attached in place of a key case or mobile phone "Decorative String" (=strap).
➡ It is said that the effect will be diminished if you do not have it close to you.
The timing of purchase is different for each person, but the most famous one is to purchase at the shrines and temples that Japanese people went to worship when celebrating the New Year.
As we celebrate the New Year, we will purchase it with the hope that we can spend this year safely and happily.
    Also,
◎ When you wish to pass the exam of your desired school.
◎ When praying for safety while traveling.
◎ When you want to meet a wonderful person or get married.
◎ When you wish to have a baby safely.
...and so on, there are various reasons for purchasing too.
Since these prayers are included in prayers for schoolwork, prayers for safety, and prayers for safe childbirth, it is basic to purchase the relevant "Omamori".
"Omamori" received by Eiji this time...If you are Japanese, you will immediately notice the mistake made by Eiji's younger sister!!💦
The reason is that the "Omamori" that Eiji's younger sister gave him does not contain a "prayer" that matches the current situation of Eiji.
Therefore, the correct answer for "Omamori" that is appropriate for Eiji now is a "prayers for safety" in the sense that "I pray for the safety of my trip in the United States" if I choose from the above explanations!
However, Eiji was given the "Omamori" that a person who wants a "lover/marriage partner" should have because his younger sister made a simple selection mistake😅
That's why Eiji also shows a slight dismay at the younger sister's mistake😞
However, we fans praised this younger sister's unintended mistake! Well done, Eiji's younger sister👍
Because, the miraculous encounter between Eiji and Ash may have been influenced by the prayers contained in this "Good Luck Charm".
Think if two people of the encounter is so, I have felt a variety of fate ones.
If Eiji hadn't succeeded as a "pole vault athletes" he wouldn't have met photographer Ibe, and of course he wouldn't fall into a slump and come to America.
In that case, there will be no interviews with American street gangs such as Ash, and of course Eiji and Ash will not meet.
It's just a personal opinion, but the encounter between the two is so miraculous that the delusion doesn't stop, and I can't help but think that the relationship spun here is precious.
What this "Good Luck Charm" brought to Eiji was probably the existence of a miracle called "Ash", which is more precious and important than a lover.
This is the same with Ash, and I think Eiji is the one and only person connected by the soul!
I thought that this "Good Luck Charm" was one of the indispensable things for the encounter and relationship between these two people👐
    Commentary longer, I'm sorry🙇💦
There were many other highlights this time.
In the dialogue scene over the rescue of Sing and Ash's Lao, I was very impressed by Ash responding to Sing's sorrowful cry.
Since the deep feeling of guilt that Sing has for Lao etc. is also drawn in polite, the viewer was able to sympathize with Sing.
The distorted behavior caused by the jealousy of Yut Lung seems to be escalating...😱
Apparently, Yut Lung is planning to use Sing's half-brother, Lao, to retaliate against Ash and Ash's cherished Eiji.
Is it related to the previous keyword, "two scorpions"...??🤔
I am anxious because have a very ominous and terrifying premonition.
In the scene where Blanca pointed out to Yut Lung's actions so far, he made a statement that accurately captured the true meaning and essence of Yut Lung's thinking.
As proof of that, when we saw Yut Lung in a bad mood, we also understood that Blanca's remark was correct.
Looking at this calm and accurate psychological warfare scene, it is very clear that Blanca is a mature adult who has experienced various things.
It will be still difficult for Yut Lung to surpass him.
I once again recognized the greatness of Blanca.
I was happy that I was able to rescue Lao and others safely, but I was very sad to see Sing suffering from various emotions.
As Sing speaks in her mind, I thought that this tragedy might not have happened if Shorter was alive, and I became sad and reminded of Shorter's preciousness😢
And, further new character, Colonel "Fox" appeared!!?😲
Even when I was reading in manga, I was surprised that enemies other than Blanca would appear near this final episode.
Fox like a serial killer who is a former soldier and enjoys "murder".
Looking at the way the street gangs are slaughtered and the way they fight to hunt down Ash, we can see that he is a very annoying and terrifying existence.
As Ash says, he always deliberately provides escapes for Ash and others, hunting down their prey, Ash, to enjoy "hunting."
Perhaps he is the number one "bad guy" in the anime.
Watching the anime reminded me that I hated him more than Dino.
He could be Ash's worst enemy...
In this series of scenes, the meaning of my words I think that you understand.
You may see scenes that make you feel sick in the future, but please pay attention to the negotiations and battles between Ash and Fox.
And I was very impressed with the scenes of Ash and Max after infiltrating the gay bar this time.
Along the way, a little comical scene appeared, I was nervous when Fox came into contact with Ash, and I was angry at the outrageous deeds that Frogman had made into a child's Ash, and my heart was disturbed, However, it seemed that everything was healed by Max's words and actions.
I'm really grateful to Max for burning Ash's photo.
And many words that healed Ash.
Once again, it was a wonderful scene where you could get a glimpse of Max's proper behavior as an adult and his generous kindness as "Ash's father's deputy"
    .
I was very impatient when Max was shot, but I was really relieved that Ash helped me.
I was worried about George's condition, but I was relieved because it wouldn't have a big impact on "life."
After a long time Jessica was also re-appeared!
In this situation, if there is one powerful and bright woman like Jessica, the place will be bright and colorful.
There are few female characters in this work, but I think Jessica is one of the lights in this ominous, dark and tense worldview.
In a different sense from Eiji👍 I love Jessica like that♪ I had thought really it's a nice woman from the time of the cartoon.
She is currently divorced from Max, but I think they are a very nice "couple".
Their son Michael also loves parents!
As depicted in this ending scene, Jessica still loves Max💕
And Max too...it seems that the feeling of cherishing her hasn't disappeared.
Please look forward to their changing psychological depictions.
This scene, where Jessica reappeared, had a bit of a comedy element.
It was funny when Ash and Eiji, who were listening to the conversation between Max and Jessica, gave up their expectations for "marriage".
As I commented one day, Jessica will join us from this time, and the story will develop into a fierce conflict involving everyone toward the final story...
Of course she will also play an active role, so please look forward to it♪

※By the way, the T-shirt you are wearing happens to be related to "Sailor Moon", so I will introduce one here.
◎ Jessica's voice actor is the same as the person who was in charge of Sailor Venus・Minako in the old anime "Sailor Moon (produced in the 1990s)".
In the new anime "Sailor Moon (produced in the 2000s)", everything has changed except for the voice actor of the main character, Sailor Moon・Usagi-Chan.
The voice actor for the tuxedo mask・Mamo-Chan in the new anime "Sailor Moon" is Mr. Nojima, who is the same as Eiji.
Eiji gave a very nice hint to Ash, who suffers from anti-Fox measures.
This scene is also full of Eiji-ness, which is very good.
Fox vs Ash battle finally started!!!😣
The words "Let's meet in 48 hours! 48 hours later!!", which everyone had been talking about many times, created an ominous atmosphere and raised my anxiety...😢
They will play their respective roles in response to the exact instructions of Ash.
However! Bones is shot, Jessica returns to Max, Eiji and Sing chase after Jessica, etc...With a tense situation, everyone's feelings begin to be disturbed.
In addition, the action Lao who are suffering on whether or not follow the instructions of Yut Lung is also still worry💦
By utilizing the opportunity, Fox will Max et al hostage.

As a result, Ash, who had no choice but to obey Fox, was finally caught by Fox😰
The ending scene where everything looked like a countdown to "unhappiness"...
Please be prepared for the turbulent development in Episode 22 as well👊 I can't wait for your reaction in Episode 22.
See you in the next comment~👋

@@KA_7788 Oooh! I wanted to reply to both of your comments here -- you have such awesome information as always! Sailor Moon was the first anime I ever watched when it debuted in America and I hold it dear to my heart! :3 Sailor Pluto is definitely one of my favorite scouts -- I just love characters that have a connection to the themes of "time." :) That is SO cool that Eiji's VA is Tuxedo Mask, though!! :D
Ahhh, Foxx's character came out of left field for me -- I thought, "we have a new character this late in the story!" I've been catching up with the manga, though and there's a LOT more information about Foxx and his character shown, which helps to know his character...and dislike him more! I probably agree that I dislike him more than Dino, which is saying something! He's just so murderous and doesn't care about anyone or anything than himself. >.< It's not a good position for our protagonists to be in with a character like this!
Dragon Moon and Blanca continue to be an ominous presence and I'm glad Lao at least stood up for Sing and didn't just go along with Yut-Lung's wishes!
I will say the sister did good in giving Eiji that charm! :D The scenes with Ash and Eiji were sweet this episode, but too few -- everything is ramping up towards the climax of the series and it has me NERVOUS! I will definitely be going into these next set of episodes with trepidation!

      Thank you for your reply💞
I am very happy that you always like the information from me.
I also know that the anime "Sailor Moon" is popular in the United States and elsewhere♪
Even in Japan, when anime was broadcast in the 1990s, caused a big boom among girls.
Sailor Pluto is a very attractive woman.
She is more mature than other Sailor Warriors, has a calm judgment, and is a lovely woman who wraps Hotaru in a mother-like affection.
And yes! I think the ability to manipulate "time and space" is very cool and attractive.
I also sympathize with your love for her and why.
Yay!! You are reading the original manga "Banana Fish" smoothly!
      Very nice👍
Yes! I think Foxx is a really bad guy😣
However, since it was a character that appeared in the second half, I think that the information about him is surprisingly simple and easy to understand.
Looking at his tactics and disgusting personality, I get the impression that he is complicated, but it is surprisingly simple because he emphasizes satisfying his desires for both Ash and Dino.
So, I do not think it takes that much time to know him one.
In terms of complexity, I think Yut Lung and Blanca have a stronger image💦
Personally, I think Blanca and Yut Lung are more troublesome when Ash deals with them as an enemy.
I was relieved that Lao hesitated to obey the orders from Yut Lung, but I was worry to imagine that this would also cause Lao to suffer from various emotions.
He just cherishes his younger brother Sing...😔
And yes! I think the "Good Luck Charm" given by Eiji's younger sister was really nice💕
But, as you say, there were too few calm and sweet scenes of Ash and Eiji this time around😢
I wanted to see the opening scene in a longer time.
Yes! The anime "Banana Fish" has 3 episodes left...
As you say, we will become more and more nervous, until the last moment, let's attention so as not to miss👊

@@KA_7788 Thank you! The entire arc with Chibiusa and then the following with Hotaru are probably my favorites in the series. ^^
But yes, with the manga, Foxx is just awful...he's simple in design and motivation, but he also feels complex in how intricately he plans out everything with Ash...he's just a complicated and scary character to bring into the final act of this! And yes, in terms of being the more "fleshed out" characters, that would definitely go to Dragon Moon and Blanca!
Three episodes left...it's going to be wild! Cheers! **nervous laugh**

Yes, that's right. As for Foxx, of course, it is drawn in more detail in the original manga, so the threat that his personality, thoughts, plans, etc. pose to Ash feels immeasurable and scary💦
And it was really unpleasant for him to approach Ash.
As you say, his character design and motivation are simple, but I think he is the character that viewers can judge as the most "bad guy" in the series.
In other words, it is a character who can judge according to myself own true feelings without hesitation when distinguishing between "evil that can be understood" and "evil that cannot be understood".
Unlike Blanca, Yut Lung, and Arthur, I can really think of him as a "disgusting person!", So I don't sympathize with him or give him room to understand.
So I didn't shake my emotions or get lost.
As for him, I really had only "disgust" from beginning to end.
As you may know, after reading the original manga "Banana Fish" (19 volumes in total), please read "New York sense", "YASHA", and "Eve no Nemuri"👍
◎ "New York sense" ➡ Maybe it's difficult to get😅
※It may be out of print.
→I hope you can get it in a reprint...😌
The extra edition "Garden of Light" recorded in the original manga "Banana Fish".
"New York sense" is a work that can glimpse further subsequent Eiji
(It depicts the world 7 years after the main story.)
It's more like an "Illustration photo book" than a manga, but it's a wonderful book where you can learn about the personal feelings of the characters that weren't mentioned in the main story of Banana Fish.
You can also read the comments of the author, Yoshida-Sensei.
→ I read it a long time ago, so the details are vague. sorry🙇💦
But!! When I saw this, I was moved and naturally burst into tears😭
◎ "YASHA", "Eve no Nemuri" ➡ It is a manga that shares the world view with "Banana Fish".
※Since it only shares the world view, it is not a "sequel manga" of Banana Fish.
      Please note!!
However, Sing who became an adult appears👐
He is, in the order of "Banana Fish" → "YASHA" → "Eve no Nemuri", appeared as the only character that will connect the three works.
By reading the three works, you can know all the roots and processes of Sing's future and life.
In addition, there will be scenes where Sing talks about the future of Yut Lung.
So, you might be happy feelings even able to feel just a little bit of the future of the "Banana Fish" in addition to Sing...😌
And, I think Sing's future growth and his position will go far beyond your imagination.
You will be shocked by the future of Sing and at the same time you will love Sing even more😘

Yeah, the anime really rushed this series. Imagine trying to put all of 19 volumes in just 24 episodes. I really felt like the events were happening too fast, and since I read the manga, I can see how they tried to compress everything in a limited time. that's why I loved the manga a bit more than the anime tbh. There were actually more to that face-off between the gangs and colonel fox's group before ash was captured but the anime didn't quite show that part. In the manga we can witness how ash's tactics and strategies were on par with an experienced colonel and I loved how the manga was able to showcase that more.

With the manga, I thought the pacing was really well done in the anime adaptation until around Episode 20/21 -- the plot lines with Charlie being left out I understand (though that scene with Ash and Nadia?! I can't wait to talk about that in the TH-cam chat) and there's a lot with Blanca and Foxx we have left out -- I think they could have easily made another episode just with the events in the manga for episode 21. I hear you there; I do savor the manga because of it, though, because you get to see all those extra little things left out! YES, the face off with the gang's vs Foxx, seeing how TRULY evil Foxx is; I wish more of that were in this episode, but I won't complain because I love this series as a whole...it's just neat as a manga reader to know "the rest of the story."
And yessss, Jessica. Girl, I get it. I do. But...quite giving me a panic attack! And ah...tomorrow episode 22 is out. Uhm...it's my favorite reaction of the series, but the most stressed I've been watching an anime in...ever? hahahaha! It's going to be fun talking with you all about it! Thanks for the comment!

You are highly observant and think logically. I'm surprised that you don't overlook what most people overlook.
I will ask you in the hope that you may give me convincing arguments.
Why do Westerners love Eiji and hate Dino and YutLung?
At the time of the manga serialization, Eiji was not popular. All the readers of manga magazines, including myself, didn't like Eiji.
Why didn't we like him? The reason is exactly what YutLung said.
Eiji never get his hands dirty, even for ash. and he was a burden to Ash.
Dino and YutLung always do wrong, but behind their actions is the desire to be loved.
Dino wants to get Ash's love. But he never get it, so he try to physically and mentally bind Ash. He loves Ash, though he's done it wrong...
YutLung envy the relationship between Ash and Eiji. But he can't get it, so he try to tear them apart.
Both are wrong. But we understand how they feel. (Most of the readers of manga magazines were teenage girls, but we all understood refracted feelings of Dino and YutLung.)
I can't understand the feelings of those who hate them as mere villains.
I wonder many Japanese have the same question as me.

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! Ahhh, that is SOOOO fascinating about manga readers at the time NOT liking Eiji! Wow, hmmm...well, I can honestly see why people wouldn't like Eiji as a character. I've joked about this with a few other commenters here on TH-cam, but 80% of the conflict, especially early on...is kind of caused by Eiji. >.< Especially in episodes 3-6 early on in the show. So, just like Dragon Moon said, I can see why Eiji would be polarizing (I'm going to talk about this in the last episode reaction, but the fact that his series is technically a Shojo fascinates me to no end).
I suppose a lot of western audiences are drawn to Eiji because he's the only "pure" thing in Ash's very jaded/"dirty" life during the series. Ash has been drug so deep into the mafia world of Golzine, that everyone around him at the start of the series is connected to that world. The only exception being his brother, but he can't communicate with him, even. Even Shorter, who by and by is my favorite character still in this series -- although he's the closest thing to "pure" Ash has other than Griffin; he's still connected to the underworld Ash is trapped in. And Ash clearly hates it -- he can't "fly free" in Golzine's clutches and hates the idea of being a boss and being trapped in this world. Eiji shows up and is a window into the outside world, one that isn't tainted of dirtied by the evils of society yet, or at least that seems to be how Ash views it, commenting to Eiji in episode 2 about how Japan "doesn't have" things like child pornography -- we as the audience know that it, and many other cultures, definitely does have it, but in the moment Ash views Eiji as something not of the world he lives in.
It's that desire to see our main character get out of the world he's trapped in that I think spurs us to like Eiji. And Eiji is a kind soul who doesn't ask anything of Ash -- after seeing all the tragedy Ash is put through, the idea that he could find happiness in Eiji is comforting, even if Eiji isn't a perfect character.
Maybe that's it? For the record, I do not hate Yut-Lung as a character -- I find him incredibly fascinating and watching him in this show makes me realize that he really needs his own "Eiji" or someone to love him unrequited and that he can love in return. Yut-Lung has only had his brothers, and all of them have used and abused him for various means. I genuinely feel sorry for Dragon Moon in this series, even if his actions are frustrating, haha!
Now, I understand the hate for Golzine...Golzine's a great antagonist in this series and one that is quietly menacing. I can't blame someone for hating him, though, having sexually and emotionally abused Ash since he was a child of 10 years old...regardless of Golzine wanting to be loved; he's an adult, and shouldn't have taken those actions out on Ash or helped form a child sex ring...thaaaaat for me makes it hard to like his character. Although, I do find him a greatly written villain! If anyone was to indeed go up against Ash, it would be Golzine. :)
I hope that helps! I don't judge anyone's opinions about characters -- heaven knows there some characters in series I like that other people are like, REALLY?! Haha! But I AM soooo intrigued to know that people didn't have a good reception of Eiji at the time of this manga's printing! Thank you for sharing that! I always love getting insights like that into these shows!! :)

Thank you for your wonderful consideration from the bottom of my heart.
I don't know what to say to you. You have answered a number of questions I had (below).
・ Why do you all love Eiji?
・ Why pleased with the death of the Arthur?
(If understand why Arthur hates Ash, it's clear that his death won't solve the problem at its root.)
・ Why do you all hate Dino and Yut Lung?
・ Why can't you all understand the role of Blanca right away?
(I'm surprised that most non-Japanese said "What does Blanca want to do?" until episode 23)
・ The biggest question: Why are you all surprised at the ending of this story and can't accept it?
Your consideration leads to the answer to all these questions.
I have noticed that most non-Japanese watching this story from a different perspective(or premise?). I want to write in detail, but I can't. I'm afraid of spoilers...
I respect those who have the ability to analyze things from multiple angles and verbalize them appropriately. You are just such a person.
      About Dino:
"he's an adult, and shouldn't have taken those actions out on Ash or helped form a child sex ring..."
You have a point here... I tend to be too lyric.
But I can't understand the reaction of non-Japanese to Dino in the final episode. It's not just something that pleased with it or laugh at. I wonder how do you perceive that behavior.
Information at the time of serialized in manga magazines:
・ Most readers(Maybe everyone) realized "where does it end" at an early episode. In fact, many readers wrote a letter to the author for the final episode.
・ It seems that Eiji's fans were also in Japan. I have never encountered them in elementary school, junior high school or high school, though.
Last year I finally read "Garden of Light". It took 25 years to decide to read.
And that story changed my feelings about Eiji.
I look forward to your reaction to "Garden of Light" more than anyone else.

@@GlennGouldful Thank you for the follow-up!! I'm going to be curious to talk about Dino in the final episode -- I've watched Episode 23 (for my Patreon), so I have thoughts, but I'm curious to see how it pans out for the finale.
As for "Private Option" and "Garden of Light," I am going to react to those! I'm doing a TH-cam Live Chat on March 21st at 8:00 am CST and I'm going to talk about the manga and react to those two stories during it! :D If you can't make the chat, they'll be posted later on the channel. :) Thank you so much for the perspective -- it's great seeing the point of view of someone that read the manga when it was coming out and can express the views of others that were reading it around the same time as well! :)
