    I'm a weekend warrior who has been watching TH-cam and learning through forums for almost 10 years now. I've been paid to do family, friends and coworkers cars. I'm no pro but I'm pretty darn good. What I like about your channel so much is that it refreshes my memory on all the little things, tips I've forgotten and so on. Not to mention the constant talking is actually entertaining and engaging. You and the junkman2000 are by far the best teachers on TH-cam for detailing, not to mention you're not arrogant about it. (Weird I know, some detailing teachers can be that way). I need a refresher on washing techniques. Our cars are daily drivers, and while I know how to correct the paint, I still get swirls from time to time. There ya go, another video for ya!

    I had this exact thought the other day when I washing my car. A woman beside me grabbed the wash "brush" and started going at her X3. I ran over and suggested she NOT do that as someone may have just run that over their muddy truck tires. She said ok thanks and started going at the panels with the brush lol. I just smiled and walked away, then thought yup great place to pick up business as one also have their beautiful clean vehicle. That's a pro detailers' business card right there!

    Hey, Scott, You are so right about the car wash. I was doing my car one day & I saw this guy with his hood up. Asked him what he was doing & he said he was cleaning his engine bay. He was kind enough to explain it to me & the next time I was at the car wash I did my first engine bay ever! So proud of myself. He also was using some kind of spray as he was drying his car, so I asked him about that too. Since then, I have really gotten into this detailing situation. Now O’Reilly’s auto parts store personnel & people passing by me in my driveway are asking me if I am going into the detailing business. I have learned so much from you, but it takes me all day just to do the inside of the car. Hopefully, as I get the car cleaner, it will not take me so long. An “old dog can always learn new tricks” if one is willing. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!!

    I use to take my convertible to the CarWash. Put my detailing stuff in the trunk. After washing the car pull off to the side and start detailing it. People stopped and ask me how I keep it so clean. I tell them that's what I do on the side is car detailing. They ask all kinds of questions. I get more business than I can handle. That way too. Sadly someone backed into my convertible and totalled it out. The car was in such good shape I got $4295.00 for it. Held out. They tried to jip me. No way! Shawn

    Great tip Scott. That wouldn’t have crossed my mind and I especially like the tip about using distilled water for getting the most from your car soap . 👍🏼
    Why don’t you towel your car and door jambs before you leave the car wash? I towel off my truck, door jambs and glass before I leave. If I’m not in a hurry I’ll use glass cleaner either outside or in and out too. Then I’ll go home and fine tune it inside and out, chrome, wheels, interior etc.
    Keep up the great videos.

    That sounds great but when ive been out of town and had to use one of these car washes instead of washing my car at home, I have never in my life been to one that didn't have signage up saying "NO HAND WASHING or DETAILING"!!
    But I have been in line right behind some jackwagon who decided to ignore the signage and take 20 mins - 1/2 hr to handwash their car while myself and 6 other people were waiting inline behind them!!!

      yes it could break down a wax or sealant on the wheel...but here is something to remember, if you use any wheel cleaner and a brush like ezdetail or any brush to agitate the wheel to remove brake dust you will be removing some waxes and sealants from the wheel because of friction..because i clean my wheels almost weekly i just apply a high quality spray wax to my wheels every time i clean them and i get great results..but do what works best for you and makes you happy:)...thanks for the comment and i love you on the channel Robert

      Hey Scott! So I did the Lexus yesterday and I noticed the rims were stained on arrival. Looks like dark drips that do not come off. if you search google images of "f-sport rim stains" you'll see what I'm talking about. Do you know what causes that!?!?! I suspect it's acidic wheel cleaner from a previous job.

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmm..the rims should be clear coated correct?..if it was a chemical stain perhaps from a wheel cleaner left to dry on rim from the past, you should be able to remove with a compound..how did you try to remove the stains?...unless what looks like stains is actually clear coat failure, not much can be done except for someone to reface the wheel...let me know and thanks for your support

    • @collaredgreens1600
      @collaredgreens1600 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are clear coated. The clear is smooth and looks fine, that's why I assumed an aggressive chemical cleaner might be the culprit. I told the client I wouldn't try anything to "correct" the issue until I get some more info, so I just cleaned them with regular car soap. He didn't seem too worried about the rims, just wanted me to get swirls out from the last 20 times at a $5.99 hand wash place... errhh!

    ran into a problem and figured you might be able to help. so today I was detailing a family members vehicle for money, well I rinsed of the truck really good with a 3100 psi power washer, then i went straight to the wash part and for that I used Mr pink in a foam cannon and covered the truck heavily with soap, I then rinsed the truck off really good and then pulled it into a garage to dry it, once it dried there was a light grey dust left on the vehicle. could washing it in the sun on an 82° day cause that?

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmm..how long did you leave the soap on the truck before rinsing it off?...what drying method did you use?...i have never used Mr Pink from chemical guys...look forward to your response...thanks for the comment Kamren

    • @kamrenrickey6290
      @kamrenrickey6290 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I left the soap sit on for about a minute and a half and then rinsed it all off after washing it thoroughly. I then pulled it into my garage and used a car squeegee and a waffle weave trying towel. I think my mistake was letting the truck heat up in the sun for a little bit and then doing the entire rinse and wash in the direct sun. so I'm thinking the soap evaporated some before I got it all rinsed off.

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      is your waffle weave towel colored grey?...how do you store your squeegee and could it have had dust all over it??

    • @kamrenrickey6290
      @kamrenrickey6290 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      my waffle weave is like a tan color. and I rinse and store my squeegee in a plastic case every time after I use it. As I was drying the little bit of water th at was left it came off and left a grey like dust on my drying towel. and I then had to get the rest of the grey looming film/dust stuff off with detailer and a microfiber.

      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video and tips... I have to admit though.... I was really waiting and anticipating you showing us on camera... Not that I don't know how or can't just imagine it but I was hoping for one reason or another to see you do the work you're talking about haha

    Why not just have a water softener system installed at your home with a dedicated outlet for car washing? I do. Sure it's expensive to have installed, but your entire household, and family, benefits and enjoys the soft water. For watering your lawn, you make sure those faucets and sprinkler connections are hard water. Over the years, it pays for itself.

    I'd like to do this but the coin washes here don't allow you to bring buckets of your own and are under cctv surveillance so makes it harder

    I had that same biz card design a few years back...from Vistaprint.
    Not sure I agree with this idea though. Your biz is your biz but if the carwash owner is ok then rock on

    I have never been to a place that maintains their soft water (spotless) final rinse systems. It is just a meaningless icon to make you feel better.
    All that is moot if you have an awesome BLOW DRYER. I have never seen that in my area..ever.
    I use a giant leaf blower for my car.
