Scott- I'm an amateur detailing enthusiast...we'll say, lol. Basically I love taking care of my own vehicles in any way I can. I have learned so much by watching your videos and to be able to get this real world info for free is so awesome. You are a good person, not just a great detailer...I sincerely thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us while asking only that we love each other in return. Hats off to you and please keep up the great work!
Scott, I’ve been watching your videos for the past few weeks and love them. I’m 63 years old and never really looked after my cars,, until now. I’ve bought mainly Meguires cleaning aids and did my car for the first time last weekend. All the neighbours came out and admired my car when I had finished, oh and it’s metallic black.lol They could not believe how nice it looked.👍👍 to you. No I’m not going to do detailing full time just my own car, and for once in my life I can now be proud of how clean my car is. It’s better than the day I bought it. It’s all down to you Scott, many thanks for sharing your knowledge. I certainly love you and I love the rambling on and on and on and on. Love from the uk.👍❤️
Thanks Scott for great tip! I bought a 2005 Ford F-350 SRW Truck back in March (2018) with original paint. It needed some paint attention badly. I was even thinking it might need a paint job. Well, I didn’t have the money for it. So, I searched TH-cam & that’s when I found your channel. You have been a God send! I’ve followed your channel for 6 months now and have learned a lot from them. This another great tip for me. Thank you for all that you do! I know people complain that you talk too much but sharing your knowledge is priceless. I appreciate you very much. Thank you again!
This is the third Dallas video I've watched, so I knew to skip to 2/3rds of the way through and get out after 20 seconds. Got the info I came for, thanks.
Good stuff very imforming. The detail industutry has been giving the meaning of living life. Through are struggles in life, we find ways too triumph issues, problems through era. As long there is someone has a solution and has no problem sharing the problem solving it issues in era. We all learn the era and will have the solution without it ever being a problem. Someone freely shared it. Life is not a game its not too be played with.
Just did a 2 step paint correction on my wife's '10 Mazda3 last weekend and I wish I saw this video sooner...it took me 4 hours to clay the whole vehicle. The vehicle was bought used 2-3 years ago, and I doubt it ever touched a claybar.
1. Apply fallout Iron remover to dirty car (wait 1-3 minutes) 2. Wash with soap and water 3. Spray wax and tar remover on wet car 4. Dry off entire car 5. Start spraying clay lube and start claying (Whole car or just hood and flat surfaces) Or skip all together 6. spray wax the entire car and dry 7. Done :)
You can use it before and after. Yes make sure you use a ph neutra product, the fallout removers are already ph neutral. Yu can also use some timre cleaners they contain the same active ingredient. Use iron free by nanoskin it is cheaper and works just as well as Iron X
Or you can visit Esoteric Detail on TH-cam and get a lot more intelligent advise. One being, it’s not wise to clay bar a vehicle with just water. You need lubricity as in soapy water. If you’re a auto detail fanatic, you are doing a disservice by not checking out Todd Cooperrider’s videos and or his shop in Ohio.
@@wadetaylor3195 no and as a detailer I suggest not. A proper clay bar cost maybe 10 bucks a piece and last 8-10 times depending on how contaminated your paint is...and if you happen to pick up any big pieces of tar or grit...remove by picking it with the fingers...and btw I would split the clay into 2-3 smaller pieces..one for the top half of the vehicle and one for the lower and one as spare
Good video Scott. But wouldnt it be a good idea to use the prep after clay bar to remove the clay lube? Last detail I used prep last and right before sealant. The sealant seemed to bind much better to paint.
I've watched different detailers on TH-cam and the decontamination process goes like this 1. Mix meguiars super degreaser, dawn and regular car soap 2oz of each and foam or spray the car to wash it. 2. Use a tar and bug remover like citrol 266. 3. Dry the car and use iron x once or twice depending on the car condition. 4. If the car has severe water spots in the paint or glass use optimum MDR. 5. Clay the entire cars paint, glass, metals and plastics. 6. Use a paint prep to take any residue left.
Great video Scott. I live in California on the central coast and can’t find that purple power version you use. Do you have another road film soap you would suggest? And second question, what lubricant do you use when using the clay bar? And by the way, you are 100% correct on the body solvent. We used to use pre-kleeno when prepping a car before paint and clay barring at my old collision repair shop. We would even use it before doing body work to avoid pushing oils into the work. Keep up the great work.
can you find krud kutter vehicle & boat wash?..it works well and its a traffic film remover...it may sound funny but i like armor all spray wash which is an aerosol and it clings to the panel so it makes claying easier and you don't lose a lot of product dripping off the panel...another option would be ONR rinseless wash diluted as a clay lube..i hope that helps:)
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing Thanks for the response Scott. I will have to look for the krud kutter. Took your advice on the ultimate fast finish. That stuff is great. I love using it after sealing my car. My wife’s X5 I clay barred 3 weeks ago still feels like I just sealed it lol. Keep up the great videos bro. I Watch all of them.
Hey Scott, I live in the Coachella Valley and started mobile detailing on the side for almost a year now, out here the business is on the rise. Lucky for me, I'm also a mechanic at an RV and boat storage, so that is my focus for clientele. I like to do my homework on all aspects of what I am doing, but I'm more hands on. I've watched a lot of different guys on TH-cam, and I got to, I'll listen to your word before anyone else, with that, I thank for sharing your wisdom & experience with me. So my question is, my clients with Class A Motorhomes, the front of the vehicles under the windshield get damaged by rocks, the deep scratches, chips, almost like the clear coat looks like ripped plastic. What is your advice on repairing the damage to the front of Class A MotorCoach? I appreciate you.
How often should you clay? I'm doing a paint correction and last owner had it clayed a few months ago it didn't sit in the sun or drive much but dirt and grime builds up quick and looks like there's some water stains as well, should I do it again and next use the water stain remover and polish it last ? Great content I subbed 😎 Any feedback would be great
Scott For newbie/car detailing enthusiastic person like me, kindly detail your procedure to prepare "Paint Prep solution" the mix ratio of IPA to Rustoleum Tar and Grease remover. Thanks alot for all your educational tutorials.
Scott - You are the best! Watching your videos is better than going to college. I am about to do my first clay bar decontamination on my new vehicle (2017 Dodge Ram 1500 actually). Would never have had enough confidence to attempt without your instruction and enlightenment. I even picked the Mothers Kit over the Meguiar's because of one of your other videos. Going to wash the vehicle Purple Power Boat and Car wash with my new SunJoe 4000 electric pressure washer. Of course, I purchased a "non" name brand foam cannon such as Chemical guys because of "another" one of your informative videos. Once I have completed all of those steps I am going to apply Maguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish paint sealant which I also learned from you AND Pan the Organizer. Thanks for all you do for us newbies! Blessings to you!
I am far from a professional but my truck looks amazing. 2 things: SunJoe 4000 is a tremendous electric pressure washer. Just make sure you get an additional 25 ft hose for the pressure washer and also get a 1.1 mm orifice for your foam cannon. Have not found the best soap for foam cannon as of yet. Ordered some chemical guys Mr. Pink that should be arriving this week. Keep you posted and thanks for asking!!
Mr. pink is awesome! Great smell and great foaming action. The best part is it’s PH neutral and it has some lubricity to it. Let us know how you like it!
Scott some time you sould try Autoglyms ptoducts. They are a British company and they are very popular in europe. Theyre flagship products are the AIO Super Resin Polish a.k.a. SRP, the paint sealant Extra Gloss Protection a.k.a EGP wich is the..sister of SRP. And also the bumper silicon jel.... I think thise are retail level. I hope some time you try those....if you can get those in US
Webster Slaughter Dude, Webster Slaughter??? Loved watching you play for the Browns back in the late 80’s, glad to see you and I both like Scotts videos!!
I used this method this last weekend and my 2006 BMW Z4M came out stunning. How would you compare IPA mix VS Body Solvent ? I don't think I've seen you use IPA in your vids. It is the cheapest way to go per OZ. I even use distilled water in ALL of my dilution mixes. I just picked up Rustoleum on your recommendation. Been using Dupli Color for years. I read in comments that you buy Clay Magic direct. Do you buy large quantities at a discount ? I've been buying 2-3 bars at a time from local O'Reilly's ( they offer a wholesale program ) but would like to buy larger amount at a better price.
thanks for the tip if only you posted this earlier lol i clayed my 04 tsx today for the first time since i bought it (1yr ago) i killed my arm doing this..but still appreciate the tips👌🏻
My question then is even if you use a car soap that strips the wax/sealant your saying we should also use a "paint prep" before claying? I would have thought the car soap that strips wax would be good enough.
Your videos are wonderful. Learning lot. I watched one video where you suggested Odorless mineral spirits. Dont hear you use it much in your other video. Can you comment?
some might say im trolling, just gonna put it here. gasoline actually removes waxes and sealant. i found out the other day i have some petrol spill on my paint, i wash it off almost immediately, i can clearly see wax is gone on that section. i tried googled, "will diesel harm paint". in short is no. living in a country where purchase power is low, these professional cleaning products can easily cost a lot. gas can be alternative, it also removes tar, it basically is oil based solvent. Logically no one will want to clean their car with gasoline or even paint prep all the time, so i personally think is ok when it is really needed to decontaminate. besides, have you ever heard of gasoline harming car paint, we have spills on car paint time to time, most will ignore and they get evaporated as soon as you drive off.
I'm not finding the Duplicolor paint prep in anything other than aerosol, but looks like you got it in a jug and put it in a spray bottle? Where can I get that? I did find a company I've never heard of and wondering if you or any other viewers have experience with it... Granitize. They sell paint prep and TONS of other products in gallons and quarts, and much cheaper than, say, 3M. Any thoughts? Thx
Love the tips. Can you recommend any other traffic film removing soaps by other detailing companies besides purple power? Or would adding some meguairs APC to normal pH balanced soap suffice?
Dear scott i need some help please, because in europe we cannot buy pyrpe power or similars, do you know any shoap we can buy in europe? valet pro has the valet pro combo 2 witch is ph13.maybe to harsh Karches has a car-bike wash with name karcher RM 565, low foaming low alkaline (ph 10) car shoap for 10euro per 5 litres bottle............do you think can do the...purple power trick for us pplease???
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing Thanks I'll have to try that next time... it could probaly be done a second time it was rough.. whats a good hand wax for after? I used meguirs in a red can
use meguiars ultimate liquid wax or meguiars ultimate paste wax if you're looking for the best off the shelf wax in terms of durability, top it up after washing with ultimate fast finish or ultimate spray wax if you like to keep it going strong.
Hi Scott. At what point do you use the Carpro Iron-X? Is that right after the body solvent and just before the clay bar? Do you scrub, rub or otherwise agitate the iron X? It needs to be immediately rinsed? Or does it stay on the paint for a little while? Or is iron X the very first step before you even wash the car? I'm so confused.
either Citrol 266 or Rapid Remover...they can be hard to find and a little expensive but both work really well for me..i hope that helps and thanks for the comment..i show citrol 266 in action in many of my videos for tar and bug removal as well
This is a really great tip. I helped my son clay his 2003 Acura CL a few weeks back. Think he might have clayed it once when he first got it around 6 years ago and man, it was a chore for even such a small car. Wish you would have done this video sooner, ha!
Yes he has a video that does just that. He uses a MTM Hydro Adjustable Foam Cannon, 30oz DI water and 1.5-2.0oz of Purple power. I tried it myself and it works great.
So after you wash with purple power, do you dry it and then put the paint prep on before claying? The drying sounds like an extra step since I would typically clay while the panel is still wet, then rinse, and dry once. Curious on how you paint prep before claying.
Damn man, you repeat over and over in a round about way something that you are trying to explain many times before you finally get to what the hell you need to say. That is why your videos go on and on needlessly. Critique yourself, get some type of script or notes prior to making a video so that you can get the information described right to the point. Sometimes watching your videos drives a person batty because you do not get to the point and instead you side track and go one and on and on. Makes a person want to smack you upside the head and yell "spit it out !! what are you getting at !! get to the point !!. I like your providing information and reviews, but you need some serious explanation and presentation skills.
so sorry and thanks for not smacking me upside the head and yelling at me...im not doing this for an oscar or to become famous, but rather trying to help those that would like detailed info about auto detailing...i have a busy life outside making videos with running my business and family obligations and i have to be honest, after reading a comment like this it doesn't feel like its worth trying to help people for free..i hope your judgement of others gets better and again I'm so sorry that my videos bring out this behavior within you...much love and i wish you well:)
Aw shit Scott, go ahead and hit me upside the head instead. I am sorry dude for my comment. The only excuse that I can say is that I am going through some very tough hard times currently in my life and it is making me into a type person sometimes that I am really not. I am normally very supportive, laid back and positive about things and towards people. I know you are providing these videos and your time to help others and educate them out of the goodness of your heart and mind and that you get shitty comments from people including the one I just left at times. Very sorry on my part Scott. Your doing it good, it's just me and I have had a horrible weekend and day (go figure Monday's lol) which I took out on you. Sorry my man !! Keep at it, because you ARE doing good and a valuable service to us and I HAVE learned a lot from your videos and bought some very good products because of your reviews. Love and positive thoughts re-directed back towards you and please forgive me for my lashing out at you. You did not deserve that from me or anyone. Your a valuable asset and positive resource to us that watch your videos and subscribe to your channel. Coop !
what a honest and beautiful comment...i understand things can get hard and we all can have those days, weeks or even months sometimes..i had a feeling perhaps something was going on with your end but trust me i will agree i repeat myself often and that could drive the best of us nuts..lol..much love and i hope things get better and if you ever need to talk or lash out, my cell number is listed on my website, feel free to call if you need to blow off some steam..im here for you my brother:)
Thanks much for your forgiveness and gracious understanding Scott. That to tells about how much of a great man you are and you would not be doing the videos and YT channel if you did not care about people and wanting to share and help them. I sincerely and respectfully appreciate it and all that you do. I am a retired U.S. Naval Special Operations Veteran and disabled Vet and as I stated previous, I am just going though some of life's hell time right now and I know it will smooth out sometime and get to a better level in my life, which God sends us through to bring us to a higher level and place in our lives. Thanks for all, and actually you provided some good help to me mentally to think about in ways just by our little exchange of words here. Keep up the gift you are providing to us viewers and subscribers. God bless you bud.
TG Cooper great progress in this comment section... props TG, for being honest. Scott, excellent understanding of a harsh review. I am no professional so the repetitive nature of the videos helps reinforce the process and reasons for the steps. I can see how advanced or professional viewers might not need such basic details repeated but it does help me as a guy that just wants to keep his cars looking as good as possible. Again, major compliments to you both for handling the topic like true men! Regards, Chris

I’m 63 years old and never really looked after my cars,, until now.

You can clay plastics?
Jesus Zavala yeah all the lights and nonporous like the plastic windows on some convertibles and jeeps or some smooth B pillars

Hi Scott. Is alcohol an equivalent to body solvent?
So can I use the prep as a clay lube as well 🤔
What about iron remover instead of the paint prep before the claybar?
Yes!That correct! I use only Tar remover and Prep from Gyeon- the same like body solvent.....exelent result)))
Hi Scott, can I make my own paint prep? I thought in one of your past videos you did with water and something else but I can't find the video.
Could you use lacquer thinner as the prep?
Scott, can I use dawn dish soap to remove traffic film before Using a clay car?
No
What are you using with claybar, plain water or what?????
Scott, For the body solvent, are you using Dupli-Color grease and wax remover #523 ? Thank you.
I cant remember the number off the top of my head..its the soy based version and comes in a plastic jug
cm 543
So, the body prep is the lubricant for clay barring or do you still need some other type of clay bar lube too?
No, you still need a clay lube..
Paint prep solution shouldn't be used as a clay lube
@@dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343 Thank you.

Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing
Thanks I'll have to try that next time... it could probaly be done a second time it was rough.. whats a good hand wax for after? I used meguirs in a red can
Welcome back Scott. Hope you had a nice week off from making videos.
use meguiars ultimate liquid wax or meguiars ultimate paste wax if you're looking for the best off the shelf wax in terms of durability, top it up after washing with ultimate fast finish or ultimate spray wax if you like to keep it going strong.
Great video Scott you are great can i get a body solvent on amazon?
the paint prep solvents will loosen and lift any spray can touch up paints. and primers though
Can you use plumbers putt as a clay bar
Where do you get your clay from?
from clay magic directly...they have a office in dallas
Thank you!
You like Rust-Oleums wax and grease remover or dupli-colors wax and grease remover better? I just bought the Rust-Oleum brand yesterday
they both work equally well..you can't go wrong..rust-oleum is a little cheaper and that works in my world:)..much love my friend
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing yeah it is. Only $6.69 at Wal-Mart. Thanks, works for me too
doas enyone know if IPA can do this trick also? Thanks
marios kosmidhs Yes, they use IPA wipe for wax and grease removal
What's your go to chemical for tree sap on paint? Had to use kerosene a few times for thick spots
either Citrol 266 or Rapid Remover...they can be hard to find and a little expensive but both work really well for me..i hope that helps and thanks for the comment..i show citrol 266 in action in many of my videos for tar and bug removal as well
Thanks, I'm out in the sunset since weathers perfect here in dfw trying to get all the sap off an kerosene is choking me out lol
Also can use a 50/50 ipa mix or I have even used hand sanitizer
I need to come volunteer and learn how to detail.
can I use Krud Kutter as a solvent
This is a really great tip. I helped my son clay his 2003 Acura CL a few weeks back. Think he might have clayed it once when he first got it around 6 years ago and man, it was a chore for even such a small car. Wish you would have done this video sooner, ha!
Can you use purple power soap in a soap canon??
Yes he has a video that does just that. He uses a MTM Hydro Adjustable Foam Cannon, 30oz DI water and 1.5-2.0oz of Purple power. I tried it myself and it works great.
wheres the vid where he tells how 2 use it as a maintenance wash 4 traffic film??????? @WebYoda
So after you wash with purple power, do you dry it and then put the paint prep on before claying? The drying sounds like an extra step since I would typically clay while the panel is still wet, then rinse, and dry once. Curious on how you paint prep before claying.
I’m askytge same question
Great info, thanks
Dupli Color Paint Prep
How do you dilute your purple power
Scott, is this the DupliColor stuff by the gallon? Thanks!
duplicolor.com/product/grease-and-wax-removers
Good message but too much redundancy
Can you clean a clay bar?
Thanks
Not yet, toss and buy a new one.
Kneading it and folding it is really the only way to prolong it's use.
Regards,
Chris
Scot's a stoner
Scott, you have perfected the art? of using 100 words to say what 10 could. SOOOOO incredibly boring and what a waste of time, UGH !
