Great to see you give both the cook yourself, and ready prepared ideas, very flexible. Real life as a healthy plant eating Mum, that's so helpful for everyone to see.
Yay Maddie, so happy to see your new video! Costco has many hidden advantages: yes, some produce prices are a bit higher than loss-leaders or peak season local, but the long-term contracts and steady supply mean when the prices spike elsewhere, Costco will beat them for those portions of the year. Notable best-price exceptions almost all yearround: Avocados, Berries, and especially Bananas. Note that the organic Better than Bullion is also the low-sodium one (350mg vs 700mg), so not only cheap but less salty and healthier.I was surprised, especially after mentioning it for homemade jam - though you must already be stocked on ch-ch-ch-chia! Costco 3lbs bag: originally Nature's Intent $3.19/lb but now Mayorga Organic $2.89USD/lb here nr Boston is indispensable and makes adding chia to any/everything easy. So happy to see you grabbing that glyphosate-free sprouted Oatmeal; it is one of my must-haves (always organic, those dirtier than dozen oats) when we, too, aren't doing organic steel cut.
Oh wow.. love love love this comment!! How do you know so much about Costco, John!? 😝 Really good to know about the Better than Bouillon broth paste too. I love that Costco has the bigger sizes and didn’t even notice it was less sodium! Yay! Hahaha yes we are well stocked on chia & flax at the moment, but get them both at Costco when we run out! 😁😁
Steel cut oats - they make a great savory grain - cook one cup oats to two cups water. They come out a bit sticky so make easy sushi rolls (season w soy sauce and a tiny bit of sugar). Also for spinach - oshitashi is great for people who are not keen on spinach. I need to make some chickpea tofu soon.
So glad the YT algorithm introduced you. And what great timing. We have a new Costco opening near me in Brantford TOMORROW!!! 🎉🎉🎉Your haul looks like mine. Now going to see if I find that ice cream recipe!
I agree! I never used to think of them as a health food store... but they really do have so many great, healthy options. A lot of organic too! Glad you got some new ideas from the haul. 😊
Hi Maddie! I always love your videos. Thanks for another good one! Just saw Jane and Ann Esselstyn post a treat you might enjoy: dates flattened and topped with PB, then a pretzel, then melted chocolate chips to make kind of a quasi Snickers bar. Yum!
Aww thank you! Omg I just saw that too as I was checking out some new TH-cam videos today!! 🤩🤩 It’s a recipe I’ve seen floating around for a while but this is the first one I’ve seen with pretzels in it and that is so clever!!! I’m definitely going to have to try it. 😃
Awww yay!! I'm so glad and I hope you love it! Yes I hope to be (finally!) back to a more regular posting schedule. 😅 Never knew how busy life could be until I had a baby. 😂😂
Great to see a new video from Maddie and it was awesome. Lots of yummy 😋 whole plant foods and have missed seeing Maddie on TH-cam. Have a lovely Sunday and week ahead. Love 🥰 the video and love 💗 Maddie & family.
Nice video! 1) getting into the frozen berries myself - definitely going to pick up a bag! 2) trying to limit oil - I wish you had shown the nutritional label on the hummus to see how much is in it but I'll check when I go; 3) Don't know why the walnuts are $2 more expensive at costco than my expensive grocery store in town? 4) I can't compromise on the 6 grams of sugar in the soy milk. Silk organic unsweetened is about $2.15 USD per the same amount of milk - organic and 0 grams of added sugar is too important. 5) Love sour dough bread so I've gotta give it a try!
Glad to see you are back! you were missed! love your videos. Just went to Costco and got pretty much the same items but some of them are not in my Costco like the arugula and the organic soy milk, I get the almond one at Costco.
Hi, so glad to have found you.... I'm also Canadian and it's great to see Canadian content and also plant based. Looking forward to seeing more videos and watching past ones too. I purchase a lot of these items as well for the great price point and convience factor too.
Thanks Terry! You can do any ratio actually! I usually do 2 cups rice + 1 cup quinoa + 3 cups water. (But you could also do 1c. rice + 1c. quinoa + 2c. water, etc.) Just depends on how much more quinoa you want in there than rice. 😄 BUT it only works with white rice (not brown rice) since it cooks for the same amount of time as quinoa. 😊
Um you do not need to "reheat" frozen berries, I just fill a lidded container, leave it on my counter for them to defrost, then eat/put in fridge. Re organic berries, a produce dept guy at my old local great market said the most pesticides are used on berries, so I started only getting organic berries. Also I love costco frozen organic broccoli (very crisp and green)
You're right! You don't need to reheat them, we just prefer them warmed. 😊 Defrosting in the fridge or on the counter is fine too. Yes, I really wish the organic mixed berries were still available at our Costco! 😓
Costco prices in NY are much much more. Everything you mention is at least like a dollar more. But it still comes out cheaper than everywhere else lol Love you baby, so cute!
More!? 🥵🥵 Oh wow! I thought our prices were high. 😭 I really want to do a comparison video from old prices to now because I was going through my old hauls and realized how much the prices have gone up here. 😱 But I agree, still one of the cheaper options overall.
Yay Happy to see you. Beautiful baby girl too! Love the food haul ideas for when we need something more convenient and I’m excited about the pre rinsed quinoa!!! Yes please. Have you ever tried the quinoa flat bread by detoxinista. She uses quinoa and zucchini blended to make a yummy flat bread. My kids eat it up with hummus and olives on top.
Thank you! Oooo I haven't tried her flatbread! I think I did try a quinoa "bread" a longggg time ago, but definitely worth making again. Thanks for the idea!! 😊😊
Aww thank you so glad to hear that! And omg thank you for the reminder to post the soup video link. 😝 Here it is! th-cam.com/video/6eYSsJ4lsRg/w-d-xo.html
Here in the US I buy my organic unsweetened soy milk from Smith's. They have a shelf stable quart size for about $2. That's as low as I've been able to find it. I know the Costco would be a little cheaper but I don't want the added sugar. Target also has the same price but in a half gallon in the refrigerated section. The Shelf stable is more convenient
I have always loved your food hauls! We dropped our Costco membership, but now I want to drop my Sam's Club so we can come back to Costco! They sell quality clothing as well!
Thank you Betty!! Ooooh interesting, I've never been to a Sam's club.. I might have to go next time I'm in the US to compare. 😃 BUT I do think the Costco membership is worth it overall. And I agree about the clothing! Got some great sweats there and my favorite winter socks... and a lovely set of tea towels! They've really got everything. 😂
Hi Madrid and baby girl.. so cute.. I bought the Bonne Maman and I found it way too sweet so I bought a package of strawberries and one of raspberries, I cooked them with the jam. It was so much better
I agree with you about wishing Costco had a jelly with much less sugar added. Also check that peanut butter there’s tons of sugar in there our local Costco in San Diego and Southern California have a brand called nuttzo non-peanut peanut butter if that makes sense. It’s really good and has no sugar. It’s definitely a lot more expensive than traditional peanut butter, but has healthier nuts than peanuts. In my honest opinion thanks for the great content.
I was a little confused about the fact that you said quinoa and rice cook for the same time in the IP. I have never had rice take only one minute. How much do you put of each and how much liquid and what time do you cook it at? I would love to try.
Great question! So I just use the “rice” button on my instant pot instead of the 1 minute for quinoa. You can really do any ratio of rice & quinoa because they are both 1:1 with water! So can be 1 cup of each + 2 cups water or 2 c. rice + 1 c. quinoa + 3 c. water, etc. Check it out in this video here: th-cam.com/video/vmIcmvc5fss/w-d-xo.htmlsi=edK0vSU3zvu9rDRz I show it at 5:40 into that video. 😁😁
