Savvy: On Board the Worlds Coolest Barge

- The British Millionaire, Peter de Savary, tells us about all the boats has had over the years - and there have been at least 30 - the one he’s sitting on in the middle of London is perhaps the most unlikely. There have been converted tugs, gorgeous Gilded Age sailing yachts and even the boat Richard Burton gifted Elizabeth Taylor, but never before a barge. And not just any barge, perhaps the only “superyacht barge” in the world, a 30-metre Hakvoort he’s named Savvy.

Proud to be the project manager of the naval architectural design office. I was responsible of the design of the mechanical engineering and construction for this vessel during the design and build phase together with the Hakvoort team, captain and owner's representatives. Very difficult project with countless challenges. Rewarded with the Global Superyard Design Award. Love to see it in action and love to see it loved by the owner. Bon voyage.

I worked for pDs on savvy in 2017 with captain Dirk..we were based up in Makkum..fun times, It was so sad Peter passing last year.
Met Peter (or PDS as we called him) during the 1983 Americas cup. As a callow youth just out of a marine college in the UK I spent 82/83 working in Newport RI on the America Cup 12 meters yachts and their support boats. A really splendid chap and very kind to his support crew and contractors. Nice to see him so well and still enjoying his boating
