The righteous bros had broken up when " UNCHAINED MELODY was recorded by Bobby. He was nervous during this performance because his parents were in the audience. Bobby was found dead in his hotel room some years later. We all miss him very much. This is the greatest love song ever written. It was the theme song for the movie "GHOST."
The Righteous Brothers had not broken up. If he had played the WHOLE video then there was an interview with both of them at the beginning. They performed together for 43 years before Bobby Hatfield died. They are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame together as the Righteous Brothers.
To date, more than 700 artists have covered this song.. but if Bobby ain't singing.. it ain't! Bobby had a 6 octave range up to counter-tenor. God given talent.

We are blessed to still have his records/recordings or listen on u tube. Bobby did do the same song for movie ghost in the 90 s. Believe the movie came out around that time line.
I always love watching new listeners. Right from the start they are digging it's smooth melody and I always think, yeah...wait for it, lol. As others have said your next stop should be You've Lost That Loving Feeling. Bill Medley takes the lead on that one. You won't be disappointed.

Bobby could have been a pro baseball player but chose his singing instead. I don't think you will ever find another artist like him. He was a beautiful man with an amazing voice and a huge heart. I don't know why he was always called "the other brother", between him and Bill, I always felt like Bobbys voice is what made the Righteous Brothers. This was done live on the Andy Williams Show on Valentines Day (hence the reason for the pink suit). Bobby Hatfield did this as a solo. They each did an occasional solo on their albums. This was done when he had a slight cold and he was nervous because his mom was in the audience. She had never seen him live on stage before. You may have heard this from the movie Ghost.

This was sung live on a tv variety show by one member of the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield. Both members of the duo were there, but they had decided that only one of them would sing Unchained Melody, and ultimately Bobby was the one that ended up to be the one to sing it.
I used to know Bill Medley back in the day. He told me once that Bobby had been sick when this performance was recorded. You can tell his voice cracks a little and that he's swallowing over a sore throat, if you watch closely. One of the best live performances ever recorded!

I was born on the same day this song came out in December 12th 1965.

His parents were in the audience. Bobby was 25 at this performance. .I think he passed in 2003. Bill still performs. .many covers of this song. ..song is probably best remembered in this generation from the movie GHOST with Whoopi, Patrick Swayzee and Demi Moore. .good reaction. cpop3078 yes Bobby was 25 y/o at the time of these live performance. Unfortunately bobby did pass in 2003. Bobby did have a heart condition, unfortunately he did not take care of oneself. We are blessed to still have his records/recordings or listen on u tube. Bobby did do the same song for movie ghost in the 90 s. Believe the movie came out around that time line.

I always love watching new listeners. Right from the start they are digging it's smooth melody and I always think, yeah...wait for it, lol. As others have said your next stop should be You've Lost That Loving Feeling. Bill Medley takes the lead on that one. You won't be disappointed.
Agree that YLTLF is terrific. Bill's baritone is compelling and the harmonies are glorious! However I am always disappointed when Bobby Hatfield is relegated to the chorus- seems a colossal waste of talent to me.

One half of The Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield. He was a natural. I remember seeing this on tv when I was 17.
There’s a YT video that traces the performance history of Unchained Melody. It made its first appearance in a 1955 prison movie, ‘Unchained’. The theme song "Unchained Melody" was written by Alex North, music (15 Academy Award nominations for best song, including Unchained Melody) and Hy Zaret, lyrics, and performed by Todd Duncan.
This song has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century: over 1,500 recordings have been made by more than 670 artists, including The Righteous Brothers, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, the Platters, Roy Orbison, Barry Manilow, Willie Nelson, Cindy Lauper, U2 etc. In 1955, three versions of the song charted simultaneously in the Top 10 in the United States. The song continues to chart in the 21st century.
The song’s lyrics allude to the prisoner’s longing for freedom (hence the various senses of the word ‘time’ used in the lyrics: ‘(clock)time goes by so slowly, ‘time(served) can do so much’, also the prisoner’s fear (‘Will you still be mine?), his hope (‘I’ll be coming home’) and his plea to ‘Wait for me, wait for me’.

Bobby’s upright posture, bold choice of clothes, diamond-studded ring on his pinky, his impeccable hair, suave demeanor etc exude amazing confidence and masculinity (despite a reported cold and a case of the nerves due to the presence of his parents in the audience). His flights into the stratosphere stun everyone, but it’s his low notes that make my tummy wobble ( ‘godspeed your love’ ): his perfect use of chest resonance makes them sound so soulful, so meaningful. Stunning and classy.
Also, note how he creates a mix of pure vocalization (yodeling on the vowels) and conversational storytelling: his crisp consonants (b, d, g, t, m, etc) make the words perfectly clear. Bobby takes us on an amazing journey. One of the very best live performances of anything ever.

Bobby could have been a pro baseball player but chose his singing instead. I don't think you will ever find another artist like him. He was a beautiful man with an amazing voice and a huge heart. I don't know why he was always called "the other brother", between him and Bill, I always felt like Bobbys voice is what made the Righteous Brothers. He was definitely unique and will always have my heart. Thank you for watching this one!

This was done live on the Andy Williams Show on Valentines Day (hence the reason for the pink suit). Bobby Hatfield did this as a solo. They each did an occasional solo on their albums. This was done when he had a slight cold and he was nervous because his mom was in the audience. She had never seen him live on stage before. You may have heard this from the movie Ghost.

This was sung live on a tv variety show by one member of the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield. Both members of the duo were there, but they had decided that only one of them would sing Unchained Melody, and ultimately Bobby was the one that ended up to be the one to sing it.
I used to know Bill Medley back in the day. He told me once that Bobby had been sick when this performance was recorded. You can tell his voice cracks a little and that he's swallowing over a sore throat, if you watch closely. One of the best live performances ever recorded!
