  • Have you ever heard people telling you how lucky you are to have everything a person could want, when in reality, deep down, you feel confused and empty? When a successful software engineer decides to face his ego and take the journey to happiness, he finds himself in a very casual, ordinary place: a yoga class. Ayman Al-Khatib talks about his journey to the Self and gives a few tips on how one can reach what every man seeks.
    Ayman is a devoted Yoga teacher and the founder of the Guru Yoga group in Lebanon. In 2012, he started a journey traveling throughout Nepal, India, and many other amazing places. A life changing journey of self-discovery which resulted in him ending his corporate career and becoming a Yoga teacher. Having lived and studied in an ashram in India, Ayman is, today, dedicated to sharing the traditional Yogic philosophy and science in Lebanon and worldwide. His favorite quote is "My life is my message".
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    I see a lot of people in the comments section talking negative about yoga, in a way it makes sense. Why? Simply because yoga is a threat. A threat to their limited dogmas, ideologies, and belief systems. The word yoga literally means union, to destroy our limitations and experience a sense of unity with the universe, that's what yoga will do. It allows one to discover the divine which is not located in some heaven but within our very own selves. Yoga requires no belief or faith, but instead you must experiment with it, it is a methodology, a science of one's immediate well being and one's ultimate well being (spiritual enlightenment). Just a few years ago the United Nations declared June 21st as International Yoga Day with a record number of 177 co-sponsoring number states. Yoga is India's gift to the world, it's time to turn to yoga for well being. Namaste.

      Hindus devised yoga( modern yoga is just 100 years old...the real yoga is full of philosophy which is hinduism) for covert conversion...its philosophy is very much rooted in hindu philosophy and this philosophy goes against the ideas and values of all Abrahmic religions....it corrupts your religion! Stop doing doing! Physical yoga is way to bring people at the door of hinduism then by by their tendencies want more and start delving into it and finally come into hinduism...people may not realize this and reason is that yoga philosophy very much psychological and compare to this psychology modern psychology is in kinder garden...so obviously people think that it is okay but they entering into hindu philosophy.

    Thank you all for your comments... the good and the not so good... When I first heard about Shiva, the lord of destruction... I thought the same as some of you... destruction here is not misleading... rather misunderstood... If we need to build a new structure, we must destroy the old structure first... if we need to create new, we must destroy the old... this is one of the most important characteristic for the spiritual life... Every day, I meet people wanting to progress while carrying absolutely everything from their past... not possible... certain beliefs must be removed, transformed so the new more fit beliefs can take place... The title was chosen by me... if you still do not find it suitable, please move beyond the title and take what suits you from the talk... again thank you all for your support and I hope our paths cross... Namaste, Ayman

    That's the thing though, we look for things outside of ourselves, and try so hard to possess every material dream, work hard years on end just to be able to say we have it all. But you won't ever be content, or satisfied if you didn't start from within, if you didn't get in touch with yourself, your greater self and higher power. Your newly built material world can never come close to being as valuable as the World you build within yourself. And honestly, when you start working from the inside out, your worldly desires start to fade, and don't have much importance anymore. You see the Bigger Picture in life. And that's when you start to achieve your real life Goals. I'm glad I'm on this Journey. I will walk calmly through it, for it's not the destination, but the journey that is important.

And the Shattariah spread to Hijjaz (Makkah and Madinah), Malaysia and Indonesia. The steps or Asanas also the same with Hindu Yoga but being replaced with Islam chants or mantras. The title attracted my attention. I pray that you carry on bringing the much needed peace and harmony to all lives you touch. I hope that the greatness you found in Yoga does not make you discriminate between Islam and Hinduism or any other path that mankind follows. All religions have their basis in leading mankind to God-thought, peace and harmony. (Man's ego changes purity to impurity). Our practices are different. So since you have chosen a practice from another religion I hope and pray that it enhances your practice of the religion you are born into. We all have choices in life. This world is full of good and bad. May each individual who listens to Ayman' presentation make the right choice and enjoy the peace and harmony that exists at all times. Ayman, you have done well. It shows in your confidence and calmness. God bless, God speed...

      What is light but the destruction of darkness? What is education but the destruction of ignorance? What is moksha but the destruction of the cycle of birth and death? None of these terms have a meaning without the accompanying destruction, and none of these terms are considered negative!

    • @PatrickWanisPHD
      @PatrickWanisPHD 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ayman Khatib - Why is there a need to use violent descriptions of the difference between light and darkness? Why is light the destruction of darkness? It is not even correct in a literal sense for if darkness was destroyed by light, how does it revive itself? And in common English, the word 'destruction' has a negative connotation. Here is the dictionary definition for destruction: "the action or process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired." If one is trying to promote peace, why do so with words of violence?

    Lovely Ted talk. We should all feel freer to live what we love and share it. Funny how the message that we each need to live our journey is so quickly pre-empted by people quick to point out that even the title he chose was wrong. A world so qick to accept what it feels is right and just as quick to decide what it feels is wrong. Chances are he would still be in his engineering job if that mattered. Here's hoping we all find our own path, words and lives.

    The title, though misleading, did capture my attention and watch the video, which is the purpose of any title, I think. It also made a buzz in the comments section, which is another plus. Thank you for sharing this. Whish I had seen it earlier in life!

    Great Message from Ayman... Every individual should seek rather than follow the cult, tribal groups. Title is a bit misleading. He is calm and composed and spoke well. Quite impressive and thanks a lot.

    Yoga, a journey through out your life without a destination. The destination of each human being becomes Yoga. The journey that teaches you eight limbs, one of them is the physical exercise that we got used to it when we do Yoga. The one who follows up Raja Yoga simply becomes a Yogi, the one who realizes the present , past and the future. Our life itself remains a mystery for many , but for the Yogi, life is an opportunity for him to have an eternity.

    But the yogic path is to surrender to God in order to find your self, not surrender to self in order to find God, and through this process we will come to know God as well, because we can only truly know our selves when we know God
