In the South Pacific, Master Higgins lives peacefully wearing only a grass skirt and a cap. That is until the King Quiller (a.k.a. Evil Witch Doctor) decides to capture Master Higgins's favorite lady, Princess Leilani, and hold her as his own. It's up to Master Higgins to rescue the Princess and to gather throwing axes, fireballs and skateboards in order to aid his noble quest of rescue.
Hudson's Adventure Island, known in Japan as Takahashi Meijin no Boken Jima ("Master Takahashi's Adventure Island" ), also known simply as Adventure Island, is a side-scrolling platform game produced by Hudson Soft. Master Higgins moves across the screen from left to right and finds his power-ups in giant eggs. This includes a skateboard which gives a great speed enhancement - until Master Higgins gets hit and loses his power. When he is not on a skateboard a hit means instant death. Another game mechanic is starvation which is indicated by a meter which steadily decreases. If it hits zero, the hero dies and the only way to fill it up is by collecting food on the way. At the end of each 4th level are bosses, all of which look and act the same, but with ever-increasing speed and stamina.
Adventure Island is an adaptation of the arcade game Wonder Boy, originally published by Sega for developer Escape (now known as Westone Bit Entertainment). Adventure Island was followed by a series of sequels that were independently developed by Hudson Soft. -

Such memories of my mother staying up all night playing this game. She was great but she'd always get killed on the final level and have to start over from the beginning. I've never seen the final level before so this (and the music) were great. Mom's been gone for almost 26 years now, but I kinda feel she enjoyed her favorite game one more time thanks to this channel.

Glad to know that I wasn't the only one who thought this game was impossible as a kid. At 6:38 I always thought that guy was the final boss till one day I beat him and realized I wasn't even close to the end lol
and back then I did not have any way to save progress so it all had to be done in one sprint, and damn if the electricity went out... oof

Both games are hard but today’s games are fair unlike old NES games where we go back to the start of the game after couple death. Imagine playing Dark Souls but without saves and let us start from the beginning.
Yeah. I was going through my WiiMendafen game library, and i saw adventure island. I thought it was going to be a baby game. It was not. I only got halfway through WITH save states!

@@weakneerose7614 New games are a lot harder. If you played any new game from start to finish and had the same rules as retro limited lives and continues. You wouldn't beat 1 new gen game. The reason people beat new games is because there are check points every where and the game saves after you have done a level or areas of the game.
When i was 6-8 years old me and my mom and brother played this game a lot. I have such an emotional tie. My mom never played games with me so it was special

I left this game on pause, at level 8, while my fam and I went to Potomac Mills (a big ass mall on the east coast). My aunt saw that we left the system on...and turned it off.

I had a friend with an SNES playroom, and he kept his SNES running for three days while I was stuck in MK1 at Goro. I couldn't beat it, so he turned it off lol

Gosh I remember renting this game and thinking level 2-2 was far. I couldn't get past that.
This guy is a true Master. Countless hours of practice I'm sure. I was able to make it to the last boss, but never was able to defeat him or rescue his girlfriend. That was good enough for me lol
It's all about savestates, no skills involved. Even the longplayers themselves will tell you this. These videos are about more showing the history of gaming, not so much skill.

Novaura Autism yeah because the part when you tried to skid and you fall of the platform, It is too damn slipperly!!!!! what were they thinking?!?! it is like startropics were you try to run away from these skeleton ostrich and it delays when you try to skid and turn right or left, they killed you like bull crap!!!! I hate when nes games does that!!!!
Novaura Autism well im guessing that they're trying to make it look very realistic and logical but shouldn't they make it too easy for your opportunity make it through? For Example; Super Mario Bros does has skids but it is very easy to not to die and slipped off a platform and Contra has no skids so that's awesome and Zelda II: the adventures of link has The same thing as Mario too. Why not Them?!?!? :O
Hudson Soft is the past, platformer counterpart of nowadays' From Software, I'd say.
Through my whole childhood 2000-2004 i've only made it to the first boss 6:42 and that's it😆😆😆 . and now i'm watching this during quarantine to see what did i have miss and what i didn't see when i was a kid 😂😂💓

Yes, if you touch a enemy once, you are dead. You get 3 continues only.
Adventure Island 2 is very difficult as well. I beat it one time but it was not easy at all. Took my many many retries

Despite how frustrating this game was, there was something so addictive about it, just like the best NES titles of the time. To this day. I am convinced that the programmers somehow were able to inject drugs into our veins through the NES controller, which made us want to just keep on playing, no matter how much punishment it dished out to us.

This game takes me back to my childhood. I vividly remember playing this game in my living room on a rainy day. The door was open and the cold air was rushing in. My sisters boyfriend got me the game when he came back from the fishing boats in Alaska.

Te aparecen en el tercer nivel de la cueva pero al jugarlo te recomiendo que no las uses ya que te quita rápido la energía y te quitan vidas
Yo me estoy viendo el gameplay ya que el juego me gusto bastante tanto en la jugabilidad como en el soundtrack . Cuando lo termine de ver me lo voy a poner a jugar al juego para así completarlo :D .

Hard as fuck game. Those three Bats in 8-3 are the most brutal and sadistic thing I have ever seen in a platforming game. The Japanese "Super Mario Bros. 2", which also came out in 1986, is child's play compared to this.

I still have this game and my grand-kids tried their hand at it but they're used to the new games and didn't have much patience with this.They told me Pops this game's too hard. I still play games even at 63 and enjoy them as much as I did when I was younger! I'm playing Dark Souls 3 currently and have loved all the Fromsoftware games! Too bad they say this is the last Souls game!
Tonguefunsome you're only a couple years younger than my grandma but the most I could get her into is candy crush and card game apps. Atari 2600 came out 41 years ago, so you were already a young adult, I'm surprised you got into it. Most early gamers got into it by growing up with 2600 and NES as children from what I understand. I'd be interested to hear some stories about gaming culture back then from someone who was actually into it
Wonder Boy on Master system is a lot better than this game. It's not impossible and it gets a bit hard at 10-2. This game I feel like if you lose a weapon good luck trying to go through a level. I don't know what they were thinking to make this way harder than Wonder Boy but man this game is trash. I went to 8-2... Died on that level. So now I got to do the whole level without touching an enemy. Very hard as they are all over the place. I just quit the game when I tried like 30 times over.

Fun fact. This is not mustache on Hudson’s face but a protruding jaw. Takahashi Meijin ( former executive of Hudson soft) was a prototype for this character

I have to admit, the ending is the only thing better in "Wonder Boy". After you save the Princess, the boss' severed head literally smiles at you. As if he accepts the fact that you won. Too bad they never did that in this version.
There was even an anime of Master Higgins adventure, where a bunch of kids got sucked in and transported inside Adventure Island game by a Bee Girl and ask the kids to rescue Master Higgin her boyfriend.

When I was little, I watched my brother play this game on our Nintendo. I always referred to Master Higgins as "Baseball Hat Fred Flintstone", until I learned his real name in elementary school. I was a weird kid.

I'm sure the VHS tapes we made recording Adventure Island in the 80s are still in my mom's house somewhere.
I played this game on the NES at the fitness center in Walterboro, S.C. in the early 2000's, likely 2002/2003. I had alreadly an NES console, but didn't have Adventure Island.
On "Game Center CX", Arino couldn't beat it, and it was also the first time that the AD failed to clear a game, prior to the filming of an episode.
I could NEVER beat this game. You make it seem soooooo easy... But that is because you memorized it.
With the exception of 4 mistakes (in the 7th stage that cost you a couple of lives and a couple of trap eggs you took), the timing and precision in every move/jump/shot you made was perfect. You also knew where the trap eggs and the bonus pots were at. I also noticed you tried to kill every foe and eat every fruit.
Hence, I infer this video shows a speedrun with those 2 conditions.
