    This is good but there are spots wherein the Xpts and Xplorers will hit top speed or close to it (160 and 145 kph respectively). Relatively accessible ones are the straight just west of Goulburn (up to where Breadalbane used to be -- there's a little side road that'll get you super close to the Xpts), and Tarro (Hunter region halfway between Broadmeadow and Maitland) has 160kph through the station (even the southbound bend has 150kph). Anything west of Condobolin will have the Xplorer cruising at top speed. Bundanoon has 135kph through the station, and so all freight will hit top speed through it (although Xplorers stop).

    • @euckb
      @euckb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I do Casino to Broadmeadow regularly and the fastest stretch is Tarro about 9 hour into the journey. Most is from 50 to 100kmph. Definitely felt like 150-160 or even more on that Tarro stretch. They should atleast do 1 upgrade to that north coast line or get some tilt trains to bring it closer to driving time. It's currently 2h30m slower than driving at around 9h30m. Roughly an upgrade of 40-50% speed would bring it up to driving time and actually become a competitor to highways.

    • @gillkara
      @gillkara ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the maximum operation speeds for XPT and Xplorers are 160 and 145 kmph. But to anyone who is a high-speed train fan those speed are quite boring.

    4:30 I saw the original HST this is based off, going full pelt when I was in London 20 years ago and it was immediately apparent how repressed the XPT is in our conditions!!

      The main issue in NSW is the track curvature, which would cost huge amounts of money to fix. Tilt trains could do better on some routes while still being limited to 160km/h (two hours off Sydney to Armidale, for example), but the NSW government has no interest in reducing journey times on the regional routes, because that would just encourage more passengers, and would risk demanding more trains. They are heavily subsidised.

    • @lachlantrainvideos
      @lachlantrainvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sylvia Else they probably looked at Victoria when they upgraded their tracks and reduced curves then realised that when patronage tripled on all but 4 country lines they stuffed up and have had to continuosly order new trains.... from 29 new to 72 (more on order) and trains are still packed... some lines are at track capacity and, especially the Geelong line, the minimum passenger load is 96% in peak hours... the NSW gvt would have said no thanks since Victoria has had to spend billions more than Sydney on their network also due to decades of neglect from Victoria

    • @lachlantrainvideos
      @lachlantrainvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sylvia Else hence Victoria still runs loco hauled inter urban trains. It also didn’t help that they singled one of the busiest routes for half the journey. So future growth on that line will be limited by the new restrictions that were imposed by the government when they totally didn’t have to.

    Good video :) I live in Castle Hill so I like to go to Pennant Hills station sometimes and see trains from afar and get closer and closer and see the trains zoom by or stop but I mainly go to watch the ones that don't stop and zoom by most of the time :) and thar station is closer to my area so pretty quick getting too :) There's other stations that can see from afar but Pennant Hills is the closest one so I just go there mainly :)

      thing is melbourne local/commuter trains are not that fast
      melbourne focuses on tram not train,
      me after coming back from japan realises that japan local trains run high speeds like xpts on straight lines and bullet trains runs the speed of an xpt in 10 secs
      so Now i realise australaia needs to improve.

      p c No, but these are trains on a city metropolitan network. This is plenty fast enough for trains going through stations where people can be standing on platforms with no barrier between them and the train. This footage appears to be shot after hours or on weekends and on suburban stations. There can be times with quite a lot of people on platforms. On weekdays driving from the CBD to Parramatta can take up to 40-50 minutes and the train takes about 25 minutes so they are a good option.
