    People, leave Usher alone. I saw the movie last night and it was great and Usher did a good job with his role. FYI Sugar ray actually did thay windmill fake in the real fight.

      I understand, but even as far as the early 1990s, boxing movies were already considered out. It has to be one heck of a film, like, say, Million Dollar Baby.

    Roberto Duran the man with a hands of stone one of my sporting heroes growing up. Bring back memories of the great 80's golden era of boxing there was Marvin "marvelous" Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas "Hit man" Hearns, Winfred Benitez and of course the man which the hand of stone Roberto Duran what a boxing era. What we have now is a joke compared to that era.

    Living in Panama for 8 years, loving the country as it is, watching a movie with Edgar Ramirez, De Niro, places what I know, history which is not known by lot of people in the world makes me a goosebump. This movie a great one. I don't mind about correctness of boxing. I see the Panamanian aim of the "hunger"

      No, it won't. However, be on the lookout for Reg E. Cathey (House of Card), he does Don King to the "T", just excellent. Usher does not look like Leonard, Rubén Blades has been miscast; he has not studied the way Carlos Eleta (the promoter) was. He is just acting like Rubén Blades.

      I like that they try to get the Latin lover image out there, although he was quite aggressive romanticly (in contrast to say Rocky), but it was distracting that the actor looked facial like Victor Ortiz and though athletic rangier than Duran and Ortiz who are sawed off tree stumps. Don't get me wrong, that's part of why both could bring it against skinnier fighters. Half the battle is casting and too often that director is too nonchalant when casting for famous people. An unpopular opinion but Usher pretty much captured Sugar Ray.

    I've watched Hands Of Stone and was not disappointed at all. I've also watched Bleed For This witch is a story of Vinnie Pazienza fighting Roberto Duran. The only thing i am wondering is why aren't the same people act in the both movies witch are really similar. It could've been more interesting to watch and as a story. I hate when people does not think twice before they make two movies witch could be made as one in two parts.

    Look at this, everyone - R de Niro is playing the mentor of a boxer who is about to square off with Sugar Ray, who defeated Jake LaMotta as played by R de Niro himself in Raging Bull. He's come full circle!

    • @benanderson3791
      @benanderson3791 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is Sugar Ray Leonard. The one Jake LaMotta fought was Sugar Ray Robinson. Sugar Ray Leonard took the start of his name from Robinson (who is also one of the best to ever do it) and learnt from his fighting style. They are two completely different people in comeplety different eras. How old did you think Sugar Ray Robinson was if he was fighting back in the 40s and 50s? 😂 Leonard vs Duran 1 was in 1980! I hope you don't take too much offence from my comment I just wanted to point out your mistake and correct it.

    Leonard lost the first fight won the second and the third fight was a boring clutch feast the Sugar Ray won. That was a golden ages of Middle Weight boxing when you had those 2 Hagler, Herns all boxing at the same time!

  • @vincej3882
    @vincej3882 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Reasons I watched this movie and was disappointed. The trailer made it seem like Sugar Ray was his main competitor. The directors make the main character Roberto Duran basically the Antagonist in a way throughout the whole movie. He insults Sugar Ray before the fight and his wife which you don't see the "protagonist" do in too many boxing movies if any. He fights sugar ray 2 times and wins the first match and loses the second match which during the fight you knew he would lose, Roberto Duran lost his second fight by refusing to fight and giving up near the end of the match. Also this whole movie was mostly in Spanish, well all the important parts anyway. All the arguing between him and his wife and his hometown communicating and conversations were mostly all in Spanish so it was hard to understand most of the plot of the movie or the in depth of it anyway. Also, the directors brought up ideas in the movie but didn't really get that in depth with, like Robert De Niro's character had a daughter he couldn't take care of when he was younger but they barely address her in the movie and try and make her a big deal but really she had very little insignificance in the movie. They maybe showed her in 2 or 3 scenes and to watch the fight at the end but that was it. The decision making in this movie between things were very fast and that doesn't make for a good movie. For example at the end Robert De Niro at first told his fighter Roberto he wouldn't train him he's too old then for a split second his wife convinces him otherwise and right away jumps back into it. This movie in my opinion started decent but ended up being boring and disappointing and the trailer was very deceiving with the protagonist and antagonist and the African American
    ✌️️Antagonist✌️️wasn't really an antagonist at all but really acted like a protagonist and was real nice and supportive of Roberto mostly. Lastly at the end of the movie, they didn't really announce or go in depth with Roberto's last fighter. Didn't announce his name I don't think and made it fast paced and boring. Like a 5-6 last minute fight and started getting his ass kicked and then very expected last few hits but wasn't intense or anything or on the ropes nerve racking like any Rocky movie. Worst boxing movie in my opinion I've ever seen.

    • @vincej3882
      @vincej3882 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hard to cheer on the protagonist when he acts as an antagonist most of the movie. Viewers and fans want the heros and good ones to win not when the main character is unappreciative of his trainer for some of the movie and is disrespectful.

    Decent film. Fight scenes were excellently choreographed.
    I was hoping my two young sons would enjoy the film. I watched it first, just to be sure. Im glad i did, because there were a few moderate sex scenes, which were unnecessary. Im no prude, but they were not essential to the story, and definitely not for children.
    As i said, decent film, and i would recommend it, but i thought it ended abruptly without completing the full story.

    DeNiro ever the investigator misses Ray Arcels genius moment before 1st Fight. During instructions He stood between both Fighters and answered for Duran. As If Duran was too crazy to get near Leonard. A small important move.

      The Rocky Marciano story comes out next year I believe. Can't wait to see and own both movies. As a kid I watched the Duran fights with my father, the man is a living legend. Damn he hit hard.
