This is an awesome video! Well researched, well explained with links to additional videos & worksheets. I spent my entire adult life in therapy, talk therapy and everything and anything else that was available. Had any one of the therapists worked on this issue of core values early on instead of listening to the 'narrative' I had for my life for weeks & months and years, I think a different direction may have been possible in terms of romantic relationships, employment, career path etc. It feels to me like knowing my core values and how they relate to my current situation in life just feels so empowering. The talk therapy kept me stuck in the past. Validation is great, but focusing on core values helps bring me to the present and find a sense of who I am vs. who the abuser was and what they did. I am so grateful to have found the concept of core values in the context of this part of my life now, it brings everything together and is helping me to connect the dots for my wellness and to be able to create a new and much more positive narrative for my life. Thank you SO much.

Thanks for this. I immediately paused the video at 3:56 to go take the VIA Survey. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I already had my log in details stored on my browser (implying I must have taken the survey sometime in the past). Anyway, 30 minutes later, my results are out. And my top value/strength is exactly the same as the one reported the last (first time) I took the survey earlier this year.
I think this is an incredibly valuable exercise as it helps us acquire a greater sense of self awareness.
Without a well developed sense of self, we would dissipate energy in needless and unprofitable ventures, leading lives of mediocrity, misery and unfulfilment.
    Thank you once again.

I'm so glad this was useful for you. My top 5 seem to be pretty consistent but I too think this is great for increased self awareness. 💙

I did the assessment and it didn't sound like me at all. 😑 These core values seem like what society would like me to be not who i am.

Maybe try some other ones that were mentioned? Or Meditate/ reflect/journal on your "hot 🔥 button" issues, both positive & negative? I don't like the test isn't helpful either #frustrating, but I also think that where there is a will there is a way. I hope you find what you are seeking & don't give up on your personal journey cuz it's not easy 🙏🏾

I've seen this with a few people looking for their values, it can be really hard to get through expectations to values. A good challenge is to make them secret values and see if you still choose them. Otherwise the other comment about journalling and explore both positive and negative is a good tip. Guilt can be a sign of a value breached (broadly) and pride a value acted upon. If you stick with it they come through eventually.

I wonder if you’ve had a chance to revisit your values again now that some time has passed. 💙
