I actually did an excersize about 2 days ago where I worked out that my major core value is to "help people" or what you term "service" , and I only realized it was when someone refused my help and I got upset about it. It got me thinking why is was such a big issue for me, then it made sense.
Good idea to take such an internal inventory every once in a while. My core values moved around over the decades. At nearly 70, living my most exhuberant life yet, the list is like this: Achievement Autonomy Creativity Learning Wisdom Self- respect
Excellent video! "If you don't have it, it drives you crazy." You can't relax until you have it. "Think of what would happen If you didn't have it. Would you be able to relax?" Thank you for this test. I have never heard this aspect before.
My core values: 03. Wisdom 30. Learning 51. Practicality 52. Optimization 05. Authority 53. Ignoring rules My business subtitle: "Trusting students' abilities, helping them learn more effectively and efficiently."
Listening from France 🇫🇷 I buy both of your books on audible. Never had problems with Social Skills but I don't have any Social Media. I just don't care about too much .. and The First Chapter Of Captivate was so refreshing for me .. Play To Your strengths .. Play To Your Position. Build relationships with people with same PURPOSE as you 💯 . YOUR WORK IS FANTASTIC!!
I can not eliminate any from the list, cause then I wouldn’t sleep🤣: my Top 7/8: ~Wisdom, ~Justice, ~Boldness, ~Empathy & Kindness, ~Determination, ~Loyalty, ~Trustworthy. Wonder what’s the deeper meaning of it…!
Those were all great, for the most part, but I have my own style that works well for me. I aim for agency, assurance, accountability, acceptance, and autonomy. I even have my own acronymic aphorism for keeping my affirmations in perspective. I call it ALL ADD. I am here to- Add value. Lead by example. Learn from mistakes. Answer my call to action. Develop an excellent work ethic. Define what I do want. I chose ALL because because, at its core, it is inclusive; and ADD because it is positive.
1. Openess 2. Growth 3. Friendship 4. Respect 5. Humor It was way harder then I thought this was. I listed 15 values, bcase I feel that 5 it's just so little.
I hear you, it can be so challenging to narrow it down to 5! Sometimes it's good to start with 15-20 like you did and then continue to reflect and narrow them down further. Thanks for sharing yours. =)
Authenticity Clarity Curiosity/growth Honesty Respect Many of them are kind of overlapping, it’s hard to narrow it down for me. Thanks Vanessa for the exercise.
Hello Vanessa, I hope the family is doing well, also the new baby with holiday is coming up ….first Christmas. I truly enjoyed this video post. Core values is so important. I choose self-respect, learning, love, empathy, curiosity It was challenging, but as you said, what are the core values. Kindness is a branch from love. From learning, we receive knowledge and growth from curiosity we receive creativity. With self-respect for ourselves as a core, we can have respect for others, along with honesty, service, responsibility, honesty. When we recognize core values as our identity, we lead better lives. Thank you. Looking forward to all your forthcoming valuable information.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words! ❤ I'm really glad this one resonated with you. I agree, recognizing our core values can definitely help us lead more positive, purposeful lives.
I just quit my job because they were very tied to the company core values but mine did not fit. They were great, but not for me. I am having difficulty determining achievement vs success. 1. Achievement/ Success 2. Adventure 3. Autonomy 4. Influence 5. Service
Good question! Next step is to integrate them into your daily life to ensure that your actions and decisions are aligned with what truly matters to you. This can be done through goal setting, reflection, visual/written reminders, etc.
Great question! Yes, it’s possible to switch to your ideal core values. However, it may require deep self-reflection, personal growth, and daily practice to rewire old habits. Personal development and shifting your priorities in life can help you change your values to be more aligned with the best version of yourself. ❤
Hi, Can you give an example of a person whose value is empathy, authenticity? What is the difference between the fairness value and the justice value? Can curiosity be considered a sub-value within learning?
Great questions! 1) One example of a person who values empathy and authenticity is Barack Obama. 2) While justice usually has been used with reference to a standard of rightness, fairness often has been used with regard to an ability to judge without reference to one's feelings or interests; fairness has also been used to refer to the ability to make judgments that are not overly general but that are concrete and specific to a particular case. 3) Yes, curiosity can be considered a sub-value within learning.
Good question! Authority is a sense of power over others, while autonomy is the inherent power of individuals or organizations to make decisions and do what they want.
I will watch the video again and ask my wifes opinion what she thinks my core values are. None of those i feel are a need or jumps out at me. Might be i misinterpret the words and meanings.
It might mean they are all important to you, but that you need to do some reflecting to narrow down the MOST important ones to you. This can be tricky, but I know you can do it!
