I havent enjoyed woodworking since my father passed but you however have that same drive and creativity that he had and I enjoyed watching him so much. Keep up the great work my man.
the tools are always going to be sharp since he can replace the blade at any time since they are carbide tip scrapers, he also doesn't need a lot of skill to use them
Now what looks really good is a purple heart center surrounded by black walnut. Or hickory and black walnut. I've made quite a bit of those in highschool. So much fun to do!

Very inspirational, new to the wood side of turning, makes a change from years of metal turning. As I wander around our natural 5-acre hillside bush property, I now look at our dead and dying eucalyptus, wattles, Blackwood and other Tasmanian hardwoods, not with an eye to its firewood potential, but with wood turning in mind. I like the natural edge finishes approach and what I might hope to turn on a lathe and tools almost the same as yours, my carbide set of tools are the same brand as yours, so watching your methods/techniques is an added bonus for what I have in mind. Thank you for sharing your presentations, could you mention the wood and whether dry or wet-in the sub-title, this would be very helpful. Stay safe and happy turning. Great turning. As a fellow turner I recommend that once the captive ring is made it could be taped to one end to keep it from fluttering about. Some of friends who are turners use elastic bands to do the same thing. These are now becoming popular at weddings. Two rings are made on the same stem and presented to the bride and groom to symbolise that they, like the rings, are inseparable.
At first I thought, how stupid, just cut the thing in half and make two bowls. And then I saw what you are doing at the end. Totally cool! Nice work. I like the editing to, funny.
I'd recommend using some masking tape to fixate the ring to either side while turning down the stem, otherwise it could get cought and snap/ break the goblet.
You could make this as a set. If you can make the rings thinner, each cup could have a different number of rings. That would serve the purpose of those unique wine glass charms people use at parties so glasses don't get mixed up.
The ring is like your cat when you’re trying to type an essay
Hahahaha that is the best analogy yet
@@CookWoodworks Great job! Now you can makeup fantastic stories and fool little kids about how this goblet got stuck inside the ring!

Great job with the ring!! Most turners I've watched use a beading tool but you went ol' school with the detailer. Sweet!! 👍🏾

A simple cup, but your skills and your sharp tools makes it really satisfying to watch! Love it.

Clever... Didn't know how you would make the ring round on the inside
Yes its a cleaver skill people have been trying to master for years something I don't do the best job at.
Ring is on the outside. Obviously
I cant be the only 1 that watched this video just to see how the ring got on there 🙈 absolutely amazing!!
I just tried to make one of these. I used masking tape to keep the ring at the end I wasn't working on. It worked great.
