    Totally unexpected. The asymmetry is surprisingly beautiful. I'm always trying to make all my turnings as perfect and symmetrical as possible. I see now that this way is more eye catching and artful.

      @@HarrySmithShorts Picking up a lump of wood and seeing whats hiding inside, then when it's finished it's pretty close to what you saw. Turning is only a small part of my retirement as i do all sorts of woodwork and lots of helping the wife in the garden. Cheers

      I was thinking the same thing. I had no idea that was going to be a lid. This guy is an absolute master. I’ve always wanted to try wood turning. The lathe is just so intimidating. But I guess it’s just like any other tool, it just takes practice and time to get good and comfortable with it.

    An excellent way to store your bread! Great kitchen accessory and fantastic finish! Couldn't be better! I had been thinking you were going to turn it at two opposite corners of a cube, and shape it that way, but you went one better and made a superb masterpiece and functional accessory!

    When I saw the piece of wood I thought there was no way you could make anything out of it but with your special touch you have turned it into a great unique piece of woodturning work the woods have some really nice grains and the milliput you used which was a good choice of colour. You really are clever with everything you make they are all awesome pieces and you always put a lot of work into them. Thank you for a fabulous pot with lid and know on lid top and a great video Amanda x

    Fantastic bread bin Harry. The angled top really adds a nice touch as does the blackwood handle.
    I love Axminster's tools. I have always had great advice and service from them and my local branch as well.
    The 508 is an amazing lathe and considered it for a while before settling on my 406.

    Very elegant Harry. Really like the contrasting black CA glue and epoxy crack repairs. Most turners would have parted the asymmetrical top to a square edge but leaving the asymmetric look was a great effect.

    This was a great lesson Harry! You're way of working with this wood is extraordinary. The cracks I'm the wood made it impossible for some of us I guess, but you solved the puzzle. And that lid was an extra piece what made it simply complete, with the nob ofcourse.
    A fine piece of art made by a real master's hand. Thank's for sharing Harry!

      @@HarrySmithShorts I've seen so many video's and project Harry, and some show how it's done, some don't. I have respect for special results as yours, and with in a lesson for all of us. That doesn't mean you can copy it! It's hard work and many, many hours before you even can think you can even try to make something like that. Just my five cents.
      But I've seen just a few plates, is that strange? Easy to produce? But you asked any ideas: what about a ball? I saw just once somebody who made from every type of wood he used a round ball, his collection. He had more than 90 of them, but I have no idea how he made them. Just an idea that popped up, but perhaps it's a new project for you? Succes!

      An ideal ball is made locally with a counterweight. But the ball in the ball is a difficult task. I saw this. I know technology. But he didn't try to do it again. Need a special cranberry tool.

    Wow! This is nice. Is that oak and mahogany? I did a similar piece as a gift for a friend last year. Those end grain, hard wood bowls, are often tough cutting. You make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing sir. I enjoy watching your videos. My Hands are not as steady as they once were. I have to turn easier turnings now and use softer wood. Years ago I would turn nothing but hard wood. Best wishes to you and your family.

      It was hard, but I was using a beech crotch the other day which was hard as metal and difficult to split. Gkad to hear you are still turning though, I find it very relaxing. Take care ... 😃🪵👍

      Hi Bill, The black filler is called Milliput, it's a two piece epoxy, comes in various colours. Mix well and fill, it dries in 4 hours but I leave overnight. Can be sanded and takes a finishing too. 😃🪵👍

      Hi Jamie, the black filler is called Milliput, it's a two piece epoxy, comes in various colours. Mix well and fill, it dries in 4 hours but I leave overnight. Can be sanded and takes a finishing too. If you look in the description field, (drop down chevron to the right of the title) , You will find lots of detail about the piece.     Hi, there. I'm just starting out in woodturning. I'm setting up my loft to be a woodshop,, and I have my little starter lathe I still need to set up. I'd like to start an apprenticeship. I've watched a lot of woodturning but never done it yet. Any tips? My goal is to eventually build my brand and sell.

      It's called Milliput. Just like with resin you have to mix up the two parts (as seen in the video) and then wait for a few hours for it to get hard.
