Got the low tuning right. My mistake was to listen for sustain of the sound instead of the pitch. The Black Beauty has a higher pitch in all tunings. As always, that was a great blind test video.
Drum 2 - Black beauty Between Bronze phonic and Supraphonic I preferred Bronze phonic but between Bronze and Black beauty I prefer Black Beauty. I preferred them both to be 5"
I'd take the stock bronze over your "speced" black beauty any day, but is it the 8" depth, ambassador X head or the brass shell that's changing the sound to my least preferred.
Really like the bronze.
It’s a great drum for sure! Hopefully this vid helped show it’s just as great (or better) than the black beauty. Both great drums, just different

I’m a big fan of bronze and Ludwig make great bronze snares..
Totally agree!

The black beauty sounded like it had a higher overtone…more twang IMO.
Call me crazy - but I preferred the Bronzephonic at all those tunings. Sounds almost pre-EQ'ed.
You arnt Crazy, in this blind test that black beauty has a sound that I would not want to give $100 for. i'd happily give $500 for the bronze sound.
Definitely a warmer sound. Maybe due to no black nickel plating, or maybe bronze is a bit warmer/drier
Thanks for the great video again 👍 how do I know it's a Saturday? Only because it's a snare Saturday😊 keep up the amazing work
It’s a great way to remind yourself - thank you for following!
I was surprised, I really like the Bronze drum.
It's a great drum for sure. What made it stand out to you the most?

Good ear! What makes the black beauty more of a preferred sound for you?
It reminds you how good Ludwig snares are….especially metal..
Can’t go wrong with any Ludwig metal snare!

Could be any of those. What's your preferred sound characteristics for your snare drums?
i'd say drum #1 was the black beauty drum #2 was bronzephonic
thats what i guessed and was wrong too.
Surprise - it was flipped. After this video, did it change your perspective on each drum?
What ever happened to hammered bronze?
probbaly an added cost in the manufacturing process that gave nothing extra to the sound and cut profit. And maybe sold worse that a non hammered.
A few shops still have them on their site, though it does say backordered. Maybe a delay in manufacturing
The Bronsphonic had less overtones the black beauty was a bit ringy for me I would definetly do some muting
Drum 1 is the black beauty
It was the bronze, actually! Were you surprised?
Bronze far superior.
It's a great sound for sure. What made that one stand out to your ear?
