Being me, I would have probably either powder coated it or fully stripped it to have it anodized but that's just because I never would have thought to do the relic/rustic thing. All in all it looks great and still sounds great, that's all that matters.
It could also be sandblasted now after the chrome is off, then you would get a more consistent matte finish I guess. But still, everything feels better than the flaky chrome.
Just wanna point out that, stylistically speaking, you are my favorite drummer to listen to. I have like half of your video library saved just for creative reference.
Freakin love that sound! I also really enjoyed the groove. Have you been practicing more recently? You just settled into this groove in a way like you haven’t before on this channel!
I think it looks and sounds GREAT!! It has a that Fender-Custom-Shop-Relic-vibe. With less layers of "stuff" I'm pretty sure certain frequencies will be eliminated and other accentuated. The end result, to me, has a nice full fat solid sound.
Ludwig chroming on their hardware in the 70’s was horrible! It peeled off! This snare must’ve been from that era! Ha! Same 70’s style badge. It sounds great though! Dig the groove too!💖
I recently "relic'd" my old brass Pearl Free Floater shell. Removed the lacquer, and sat the drum in a salt and vinegar vapor chamber. Love the rustic steak punk finish!
Love how you include the music in your plays. Love your vids man. Keep them up. Because of watching your dollar three videos, I’m inspired to find ways to fix my drum and improvise it to my liking. :)
Should have tried 0000 steel wool. It may not help with pitting but it can make stuff shine. I would have thrown glue in the badly blistered/pitted areas and then throw glitter at it to match whatever kit it was going with. That or rubbed some ash or something dark into the voids. I like the way it turned out though.
I have a 76 supra and stripped the chrome off as well. I was going to try and buff it to shine. But I actually painted it black and put light bar bell type hardware on it. Looks rad, sounds as awesome as usual.
I've also heard that you can sandblast a shell removing the Chrome. Then polish up the bare aluminum shell and it'll look really nice. I seen an example of this once and it looked great. Also seen somebody take off most of the Chrome feather the edges and spray paint with a really nice blue color and that turned out nice to
You might try an aluminum sealer\primer and then powder paint. You did a lot of work but it required more to get to its original aluminum. Rest on it, then make a plan for a spray paint finish; many options....
I've had the same problem. I stripped down a tama snare, was planning on buffing it out and make it shiny again. Lost interest and now it is in the shed somewhere. Today saw it laying around and had the plan of makin it in a clock
I have a super sensitive I did the same thing too. I ended up getting some nice swirl patterns and it almost looks hammered. On a regular keystone Supra, I was able to sand most of it out with an belt sander on an angle and then paint it with automotive paint and clear. Super sensitive has been sitting since I am not sure if I love it, but I found the nickel underneath was the worst part.
Hi David, I love your show, was just watching your latest post on the Ludwig Plastic snare and followed it up with this one. Your playing on that plastic snare video is great-good work! Can you tell me where you get the replacement grommet that you used for this Supra video? Thanks.
Yeah I would have stopped when you in hindsight wanted to stop aswell. Had a interesting look to it and would be cool with some polish on that red-ish patina.
I think it's cool how it turned out and that you like to experiment with different ideas. What's a reasonable price for a Supra in your opinion? Maybe a 70's to 80's era. Gotta add one of these to my collection one of these days. Love your channel, peace and God bless in 2021
Did the same thing- wish you have shown how to address the air vent/grommet going back in on the thin metal shell. Next video on a metal shell, please!
idk I think it fits in with the rest of the kit pretty well (even though that kit's going away). Also, probably some of the best playing I've heard from you, nice stuff!
What you could do is bury the metal shell in the garden. Same concept as burying cymbals. I tried it with a cheap steel snare and it sounded way darker and looks cool.
Halfway through the video I was thinking it looked pretty “unique”, but that unique matches the “unique” VOX melted kick drum with its Gatorchrome wrap to perfection. If you planned this, bravo. If not, congrats anyway😎
Be sure to tell me how I ruined this Supra!
Being me, I would have probably either powder coated it or fully stripped it to have it anodized but that's just because I never would have thought to do the relic/rustic thing. All in all it looks great and still sounds great, that's all that matters.
Lazy Dave back at it again! 🤣🤣
Haha hah no matter what you do ya can't make everyone happy.
It could also be sandblasted now after the chrome is off, then you would get a more consistent matte finish I guess. But still, everything feels better than the flaky chrome.
@@MK-kq1mb yeah a shot cabinet would be a good addition to the toolkit
Forget the snare, that was the tastiest groove you ever dropped.
I thought the same thing! Solid groove for sure. Really locked in!
Bro fr
Lol retweet that brother, the kit sounds bigger too
Seriously, that jam on the Vox kit was some quality material. Thank you, sir.
I love how controlled and crunchy that snare sounds and yes, you’re playing... 🤯
Just the title gave me anxiety. Not sure why. These things aren’t rare.
After seeing it done, I think it’s a good candidate for some patina.
Chemical etching FTW!!!
Yes pls make a kickss steampunk snare
My OCD is going to kill me now with that badge being tilted. Still a cool idea!
I personally think it looks sharp. A MATRIX SUPRA.
The Kind has spoken.
I'm a spraypaint kinda guy, textured "hammered bronze" rustoleum is a go-to. Call me lazy...
Dude your playing in this vids was SICK! I’ve watched your vids for years and your chips have really grown!
Oh and I really dug that track and how you played it, especially that fill at the end. Mighty fine chops RdavidR
There’s a drum shop in Minneapolis called Twin Cities Drum Collective that does this. Theirs have more of a brushed finish. Sounds great!
Just wanna point out that, stylistically speaking, you are my favorite drummer to listen to. I have like half of your video library saved just for creative reference.
Love the drum but I also love how you approached the track and changed your playing as it went
That whole kit sounds pretty amazing.
When I got the notification, I only read the title and thought it was a Wintergatan video
Pain is temporary, glory is forever.
2:16 THE SYNC UP WITH THE BEAT IS SO NAUGHTY
I believe John Douglas (drum tech for Alex Van Halen) did something similar to Alex's supraphonic, which lead to the birth of the AVH signature snare
I've been a subscriber since the 100 rivets in a cymbal video. Your drumming has improved so much. Very musical and tasteful.
oh damn, I'm quick today. Loving these more chill videos!
I think it looks great... lots of character! Sounds killer, too.
I personally think it looks great! Has a unique feeling to it.
Your playing has come a long way man. Killer groove
Freakin love that sound! I also really enjoyed the groove.
Have you been practicing more recently? You just settled into this groove in a way like you haven’t before on this channel!
Pain is temporary, glory is forever
I like it,better than the peeling chrome
Loved the performance and the mix. Great work brother!
Clicked for the drum diy stuff, stayed for the music.
Drum has good initial attack with a decent grunt. I like it. Fits right in with the Vox kit.
That's how a snare should sound like in my ears. God I wish I could get one for the studio.
I think it looks and sounds GREAT!! It has a that Fender-Custom-Shop-Relic-vibe. With less layers of "stuff" I'm pretty sure certain frequencies will be eliminated and other accentuated. The end result, to me, has a nice full fat solid sound.
You should use an aluminum patina on it. Make it a true one of a kind.
The whole kit sounds awesome. Agree with you about what would have been a cool place to stop sanding.
Proof of concept! A Supra sounds great no matter what it looks like!
Love or hate the finish, the sound is tried and true!!
Jheeez! Some of your best drumming to date dave!
Ludwig chroming on their hardware in the 70’s was horrible! It peeled off! This snare must’ve been from that era! Ha! Same 70’s style badge.
It sounds great though! Dig the groove too!💖
The rounded corners on the badge make a 90's model
Love the sound of this kit and the snare fits really well.
have you done something different? the sound was always quite good but this time it was blowing me away.
The playing was insane! Especially 06:11. The snare sounds sooo gooood.
I recently "relic'd" my old brass Pearl Free Floater shell. Removed the lacquer, and sat the drum in a salt and vinegar vapor chamber. Love the rustic steak punk finish!
Got that Camp Lo vibe with that groove!! That snare sounds SWEET!!!
Love how you include the music in your plays. Love your vids man. Keep them up. Because of watching your dollar three videos, I’m inspired to find ways to fix my drum and improvise it to my liking. :)

wow that was honestly my favorite demo of drums with a track anyone has done
that ride tho...
Bro, that kick slaps! 😎
You might try an aluminum sealer\primer and then powder paint. You did a lot of work but it required more to get to its original aluminum. Rest on it, then make a plan for a spray paint finish; many options....
Sounds good. However a little bit of snare ring is acceptable in my book. Especially with old Ludwig snare drums.
I've had the same problem. I stripped down a tama snare, was planning on buffing it out and make it shiny again. Lost interest and now it is in the shed somewhere. Today saw it laying around and had the plan of makin it in a clock

Holy hell that snare sounds incredible. And I really dig that Saluda crash too.
Dude, that snare (and honestly the rest of the kit) sounds freaking incredible 🤯
Dude absolute chops, amazing picket groove, super tasty
Would be very interesting to see you spray painting this
It sounds good and so do you.
Great job, 400 sounds fab, excellent groove.
supraphonic is still my favorite snare. I have a 5 and a 6.5. I have a pile of other snares, but these are my favorites.
Sounds and looks great, nice work!!!
The snare sounds great! And looks kind of cool now.
I dig it, Dave! Love the industrial look and old school sound!
Sound awesome and looks unique. Great job
Dave stright killing it on this song that fill was fire
Definitely want to see that crazy layer finish!
I think it looks really cool!!!! Still sounds awesome.
been here a while. you got a great channel. never stop.

It sounds amazing!
you make a drum sound great.
Yeah I would have stopped when you in hindsight wanted to stop aswell. Had a interesting look to it and would be cool with some polish on that red-ish patina.
maybe a sandblaster would have removed all the chrome bringing it to bare aluminum as you planned
I think it looks great. And it sounds awesome.
in one part of the project it looks like a digital camo, i would love to see that haha, and u have the sticker printer, i think it would looks cool
I think it's cool how it turned out and that you like to experiment with different ideas.

Did the same thing- wish you have shown how to address the air vent/grommet going back in on the thin metal shell. Next video on a metal shell, please!
The Vox sounds great!
Honestly I like the way it looks “rustic” or worn. And also the kick tho!
cool track! Some cool licks in there.
Could you saw some drums in half, and fix them with flex seal/tape?
Those drawers💥💥
idk I think it fits in with the rest of the kit pretty well (even though that kit's going away). Also, probably some of the best playing I've heard from you, nice stuff!

Great chops on the demo track, man. Stepping up your game, I reckon.
Damn I actually love the sound of it, dry and low. But it’s mid is really compliments it and brings out the ghost notes a lot.
Dude.... please tell me you are wearing a cartridge respirator while sanding....
Best sounding mix I've heard yet... that kit sounds absolutely killer
Yessir! aint no dust particles gonna try and kill me
I’ve got a 1968 Supra. It’s the best snare I’ve ever owned. It’s the best snare I’ve ever played! Every drummer should own one 😁
Thanks for posting the drums only track!
Specially great playing on this!
Did you make that play along track? And where can we get it?!
I would also love to know
Definitely interested to see the Sonor-like finish. Cheers!
I really like how it came out
Dang I love that sound.
That first instrumental>>>>>>>>>🔥🔥
Looks great!! different , unusual!!!
Mix sounded really cool in this one 👍👍👍
oh boy dat groove was something else
My saturdays are always made whenever David drops another project :)
Have you ever thought about putting lights in that acrylic kit ?
You should try sandblasting a cymbal. I'd love to see your opinion on that.
Halfway through the video I was thinking it looked pretty “unique”, but that unique matches the “unique” VOX melted kick drum with its Gatorchrome wrap to perfection. If you planned this, bravo. If not, congrats anyway😎
Sounds so good, bruh!
