G’day Kerry, I’m an Aussie Vietnam Vet, woodworking is my hobby and therapy. I have recently started woodturning, so far making pens and wooden boxes for the pens. Also a Queenslander. I have just found your TH-cam channel, subscribed and hoping to learn. Got some good tips about setting up my turning section.
Thank you so much for your comment Buck. It’s comments like these that keep pushing me to make more videos and trying to help out the community. Thank you for subscribing and watching the video. Please keep me posted on how you go with your setup. Cheers, Kezza
Thank you so much for watching Johnny. Please let me know if I need to cover any topics for you. I’m always open to suggestions for video ideas. Thank you for your support mate. Cheers, Kezza
Thank you so much Claudette. Sometimes I find myself out there just fluffing around and then a few hours pass not doing anything and realise; I need to go back inside🤣🫠 I hope you’ve been well and looking forward to the Christmas break.
@@KerryCorney i know what you mean, but its time that is enjoyed so all good. I am well and looking forward to the break. Hope you and your family have the Christmas you hope for.
Kerry, glad to see you in the shop. Hopefully your mending well and will be back to turning soon. As always great video, nice to see how others work in their shop spaces. Good luck with your recovery.
Hey, good to get the tour of your shop. Love the large doors, almost like you are outdoors all the time! Tough to do during our MT winters! Good to see you active, positive and making videos! Stay safe and patient mate.
Good to hear from you Kerry, looks like you're doing great and healing. Always a pleasure to see/understand your work flow and procedures. Take care and stay safe.
So sorry about your injury. Always gives me pause to hear an experienced turner get injured. I think a safety video is in your future. "My MIL's broom handle" made me smile. I have been thinking about adding a rolling cart (trolley). Still thinking about the requirements. To heavy with too many accessories can reduce the useability.
Thanks so much for watching the video Mike. I’ve already made a video about what happened that day and the injury. BANDSAW vs FINGERS. My accident and story. th-cam.com/video/ZYO_KP3fq0E/w-d-xo.html Hope it helps other people who use a bandsaw learn from my mistake. Yes, the old broomhandle had to get a mention. 😂 Thanks again for watching mate. Talk soon . Cheers , Kez
Right on! Thanks for the behind-the-scenes look at you place and your reasoning for how you set things up. Not something that a non-wood-turner like me would know so thanks for this. Still sending you positive healing vibes from C-c-c-canad-d-da, eh!
Good morning. I’m glad to see you up and moving around. I just sent you a message on a different video to check in and see how you’re feeling. Thanks for sharing your shop layout. I too find that organization is a must. I can’t stand a messy shop. I’m like you in the regard of keeping things neat and in order. Have a great day Kerry.
Thanks so much Keith. I think keeping a neat tidy shop works for both organisation and finding things but also safety. Thanks for checking in on me mate. I hope you’re well and looking forward to some Christmas goodies🤝
really interesting - im going to be reconfiguring my space in the new year as previous layout has been outgrown! this video is definitely going to feed into the new layout
Thanks for watching and I’m really glad that I could help in someway. I’m constantly adjusting things and moving things around but that’s why I love castor wheels. They’re the best and a game changer. Cheers mate
Hand is doing well, mate. Thank you. It looks a bit funny, but it doesn’t bother me. I just can’t point straight, guess the docs didn’t use a square when setting it! That’s really exciting to hear, mate. There’s nothing better than setting up a new workshop.
Thank you so much for watching mate I really appreciate your support. I finally feel good about my setup though. I think we could all agree. We’re constantly tweaking and adjusting things as we go. Thanks for watching mate.
Thanks for the tour. I just started woodturning this year and I'm picking a lot of tips from these types of videos. I'm come from metal engineering and machining so there is a lot to learn about woodturning. I have setup my sharpening grinder close to the lathe so that is one thing that is efficient. I hope the hand gets better quickly so you can get back onto the lathe. Regards Jon
I think you would pick up on techniques a lot quicker having a background you possess👌 Thank you so much for your support Jon I really appreciate it mate. Let me know how you get on. Cheers mate🤝
Nice to see a “real” workshop used to be productive. I don’t understand why the sorry pro sharpener, I love mine. So fast to touch up and keep tools sharp. I keep mine one step away too. Heal quickly, looking forward to more videos
I can’t exactly remember saying sorry but I love my sharpeners. I’m just charging it up so I can freehand sharpen everything. So if I have to do a demo anywhere I can do freehand sharpening and not rely on gigs. Cheers mate have a lovely day
@@KerryCorneyhappy to hear the hand is doing better and with time you may get that mobility back. I had a near miss on my bandsaw and scared the heck out of me. I tend to think the band saw is fairly safe compared to mat cabinet saw. I wanted to cut off a bit from crotch to prep for turning and it grabbed it up quick and pulled my hand in before it bond up. Just missed cutting my hand. It destroyed a new bandsaw blade though. Lesson learned and dogged a bullet, now I make sure to use a jig or at least have a flat surface on the table. I just in my pea brain I thought the crotch would have kept it getting pulled in like that. Really happy you are recovering and keep the videos coming I do enjoy them.
Thanks for sharing Kerry. When I set up my little turning shed I tried to get the layout of things such that it would be efficient but I never considered the "work triangle" idea. I've gotten several more ideas from your video so THANK YOU!! Merry Christmas, Stuart
I got my Vicmark 240, maybe 5 years ago. I like it for bowls better than my Robust American Beauty. Love the 3 speed ranges, and how the slowest speed is about 10 rpm. I need that for power sanding my once turned warped bowls. Never could adjust to turning bowls on a long bed lathe. Had sliding headstocks forever...
100% agree that swivel headstock makes a huge difference to comfort and the overall turning experience. Do you have the outboard tool rest for it? I've been waiting to get one for a while now. Interested to hear how it goes. Cheers mate. Talk soon Rob, Kezza
I do have the outboard tool rest. It is great if I would ever turn a table top maybe. For standard bowl turning, it isn't very user friendly. Much easier to use the banjo on the lathe. Moving the outboard rest is rather awkward.
Hi Kerry, sorry to gear about your hand mate, hope all goes well with the recovery process as I know it can be frustrating not being able to get back to turning. Its good to see a realistic workshop, good one. Also I have just purchased a Sherwood lathe on cast iron stand(legs) and i too like to put things on castors, any suggestions on what to get as not sure if i drill into the cast iron will it ruin the integrity and strength of the iron. Many thanks for a great video and have a speedy recovery, its lucky we have 10 fingers!
Cheers, Colin. I posted some pictures the other day about how it’s healing. Thanks so much for checking out my channel, mate. I’m not much of a metal guy. Maybe check with the manufacturer. The lathe sits on castors from Hare and Forbes. They work like a treat. Very lucky we have ten, mate👌 Cheers, Colin. Kezza

Very nice. Nice big shop. Got to have puppers around the shop. Mines a 115 pound lab. He helps me with some of my disabilities.
Thanks mate. I love labs. We had a black lab named Lilly. She was so beautiful and special. It wouldn’t be a workshop without them. 🐕🤝
