    Just to strike a balance with those who hate rider aids, i am returning to riding after 20 years being off a motorbike. These aids were not around when I started, but now you have to look at them as a way of making riding safer. Sure, you can handle a bike like that, but one day you may just realise that you have overcooked it on a corner and now your life depends on the cornering ABS to prevent you from sliding under the truck in the oncoming lane. Take these electronics as they are, aids for your safety. You probably won't need them, but one day you may thank them as they helped you out of a tight spot.
    All the bikes I test ride had similar electronics, so I am pretty sure you will have a hard time finding one without them. You can turn them off if you really feel you need to, but for me, knowing that a computer is watching everything I am doing and can assist and maybe prevent me coming off.... I a! All for it.

      I absolutely agree with u. Had my life saved by the ABS on my D390. emergency braking at 120kmph, came down to 15kmph in just a couple of metres. without that I'd have surely skidded, or hit that fecking truck that switched lanes with warning.
      u can never predict on road what might come at u. and these systems work on physics, doing thousands if not millions of calculations per second. not even the most experienced rider can do that amount of calculations in a sec.

    I have a SAS and i hope i can get my brain to understand braking full force with the front brake in a corner, because it's so heavily ingrained to do the opposite! Amazing system for sure.

    I have the 1290SA with cornering ABS, and like all the Rider aids it works well, but...looking forward I’m a little concerned about the impact of these technologies on people who aren’t even riding yet. I’m fairly competent, and have been riding for almost 40 years, but of course I learned to ride in days when you had to know how to control the bike in emergency situations, and as nice as cornering ABS is, if you don’t know what to do in an emergency there’s a risk that you’re relying on technology to make up for poor or bad technique, and it could be dangerous. I also have HHC and it’s fantastic especially when I’m fully loaded with hard panniers and a 60L soft bag.

      ABS saves millions upon millions of dollars worth of accidents. I would bet that failures of something like abs would be miniscule compared to the number of drops saved. I dont have data, but there is a reason abs became mandatory.
      Also, I have read that people with abs are confident at braking as hard as the tyres will allow while those without tend not to brake as hard for fear of a wheel lock.

      @Ronan Rogers - I agree but the alternative is having people crash. This safety tech is starting to become standard though so having riders rely on them isn't such a big problem.

    I have an s1000r, and it has all the electric aids. Have heard of instances where these aids fail, and reality is that would be catastrophic. If anti wheelie were to fail the thing would loop very quickly, unless there are skills to detect and react to the failure where there is an expectation it will work. Got to practice the skills. Problem is I need a PhD in engineering to switch stuff on and off on the BM...

    The question is why is every electronic feature mandatory?
    Why is every feature come after little to no market demand and with no option?
    Why isn’t there a Mechanical only line? Even if it costs the same I guarantee a large and obvious market would go strait for it even if it cost more.

    • @jeaquaz1
      @jeaquaz1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guarantee that the marketing people have done their homework and that the number of people that are interested in the electronic features outweighs the purists who would rather crank start a bike. Just think of the new Philips toothbrush with Bluetooth and position sensors...
      On top of that, there are also legal issues. As a manufacturer, it makes no sense to have electronics built for added safety and then sell a "less safe" version of it. I am sure they would rather have people not needing the electronics ridding with it than people needing it ridding without.
      You can always go buy an Ural!

  • @bseidem5112
    @bseidem5112 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    KTM not guaranteeing the electronic aids is a deal killer. KTM should configure the bike to default to full mechanical function should the electronic aids fail and the dash go to basic functions=more sales. Or KTM can just go to the best and get reliable electronic aids built.

    Shame they can't do R&D into why there electrics fail so easily and can't even take a splash of water. I also thought they would do more R&D on the engines as the are so phone to failures and the running temps are absolutely ridiculous. If it gets where you need to go no dought your legs are cooked like kfc chicken.
    TRUE STORY
    Me : The dash is missing info and displaying the wrong fuel level.
    Dealer : Have you washed the bike recently.
    Me : yes why ?
    Dealer : there's your problem I can book it in to have it replaced.
    Me : so I bought a £4500 bike that can't be washed or get wet.
    Dealer : pretty much yeah I can get it in next Tuesday.
    They didn't even touch it and sent it back claiming it was fixed and had a new dash. IT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AND STILL HAD THE OLD DASH. It took them another month to sort it and as soon as they did I sold it and took a loss. It had in total 10 problems just with electrics and the engine in 2000 miles and 8 months of ownership. 3-4 of those it was in the garage.
    For reference the bike was always dry stored and never riden in the wet unless it rained while out and it was always kept clean and maintained. still a piece of s**t

    The electronic aids prevent people from learning the necessary skills required to handle a bike. So somewhat nice to have and somewhat counter intuitive. I ride the 1190r and am forever switching all the gimmicks off - 1. because I know how to handle my own machine and 2. because it reinstates them after every engine start. How annoying.
    At the end of the day, this is all a very expensive marketing ploy and if you were to race or hit a proper trail you would not want these aids interfering anyway.

    • @yugen8382
      @yugen8382 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The electronic rider aids dont prevent people from learning the necesary skills, they take those skills and give it to a computer to perform perfectly 100% of the time.The MCN has a great video on youtube about it. 3 riders, 3 non abs tests, 1 with abs here are the results:
      80mph:
      Non ABS 1: 92 meters
      Non ABS 2: 59 meters
      Non ABS 3: 66 meters
      ABS : 42 meters
      There is no question that without abs you're not only inconsistant, but even the best rider there has 6 car lenghs difference with the abs rider.Youll have crashed 6 times before the abs rider because "you know how to handle your bike".Not to mention that the abs will always do it in 42 meters.No matter how good you know how to handle your bike youll never be as good or as consistant as an abs system.And that goes for all rider aids.
      (Also in Moto Gp they use traction controll)
