Schaaf, I read your discription to this video, and I gotta tell you: Honda VFR1200XD Crosstourer is better than BMW R1200GS. Sure Honda is not as fancy as BMW, and doesn't have as much bells and whistles. But Crosstourer is faster than the GS, comfier than the GS, many times more reliable than GS, and also cheaper. Better bike it is. Especially with the optional DCT gearbox, which is absolutely great! Cheers.

Exactly as I would do it - pushing the bike when the visibility and roads/space permit, and being respectful, slow, and careful at any and all points where there may be higher concentrations of people, lack of visibility, etc. Respect

Servus Schaaf! Ich fahre seit März 2018 auch eine KTM 1290 SAS. Ich teile deine Einschätzung, dass die BMW GS komfortabler und gediegener ist, aber die KTM spürbar kräftiger und schneller. Ich fahre solche Straßen wie Stelvio allerdings im Modus Street, und wenn die Straße aus brüchigen Aspahlt mit Wellen besteht auch Comfort. Das ist nicht nur komfortabler, sondern im Sinne von zuverlässigem Kontakt Rad => Straße auch sicherer. Den Modus Sport verwende ich nur auf Rennstrecke oder sehr glatter Autobahn/Bundestraße bei höherem Tempo. Deshalb ist für mich der Komfort-Unterschied zur GS zumindest etwas geringer als wenn man über jede Rüttelpiste im Sportmodus hoppelt.
Danke für dein Feedback. Ich kann dir aber versichern, dass der Kontakt Reifen -> Straße im Sport-Modus der gleiche ist. Sonst hätte KTM da ordentlich was verbockt ;)
For me there's nothing better than to do the N260 and finish it of with some desert(ish) riding in the Bardenas Reales on my trusty 1100GS (all in Spain). Also many of the small roads connecting the N260 are little treasures by themselves and worth a trip. These roads are maintained by the autonomous communities and can be recognized by the road number being preceded by a letter indicating the community.
Been following you from the beginning then left for a bit as you were going a bit too crazy for my taste. But man your new riding pace is just perfect I subconsciously make the move with my left foot at same time as you change gear, i squeeze the right lever at the same time, I feel like I'm riding the bike.

I really like passo del bocco. Kinda away from me (~40kms) and it doesn't have the best tarmac or turns...but it connects to a lot of other great roads/passi and i have good memories of it. A schaaf approved road tho can be passo del bracco, but i did it only a few times

Look up The Devil's Highway in Arizona USA. Used to be called RT 666 it's now RT 191. You have almost 70 miles or so of turns. You will spend most of the time in 2nd or 3rd gear. It's a good workout! Amazing scenery as well. Then check out The Million Dollar Highway in Colorado USA. Lots of turns and amazing views. I just bought the KTM 1290 SAS... Loving it! How did you enjoy your time on it?
Hi your KTM video just popped up on my feed 😊👍🏻 just read you description, I have a SAS too and love it so much even more than my 1260s Multi... ok maybe not the noise as I have full Termi 😍 but honestly with the Ergo seat on it she is sooooo comfy. I have done 17k Miles in a year 😱 and 9k Miles on the 1260s. I have just changed the sprockets and was sent 42T rear instead of the standard 46T man alive it is even quicker... and pulls so so hard!!! I’m about to have her Dyno-ed so will let you know the results 😊👍🏻 anyway keep up the great work... I enjoy listening to the bikes on your videos rather than some guy talking 💩
You should check out Lepșa and Transalpina in România. 😁 I love Lepșa the most because it has 50km of amazing twisties in the forest, very grippy tarmac.

i liked the timmelsjoch (if that is how you spell it). but the stelvio was hard on my arms as a passenger. the accelerating and hard braking 88 times was impressive

yes! It's because I'm only using the rear brake and each time I hit the downshift for a short moment the rear spins slower than the front and makes the tire squeak

Hallo Schaaf, ein tolles Video, vor allem der Sound ist großartig! Mich würde eines interessieren, wie verhält sich der dicke V2 in unteren Drehzahlbereichen? Ich habe viel gelesen das KTM dem Motor sehr viel Manieren beibegebracht hat was das betrifft, nur schlägt sich das auch in der Praxis nieder? Oder rappelt und zappelt der Motor unter 3000 Umdrehungen? Das war immer so eine Eigenschaften die mich an dicken V2 Motoren gestört hat. Klar, man kann sich auch daran gewöhnen 😁 Beste Grüße und mach weiter so 👍
Hallo Jens! Was du gelesen hast, das stimmt. Der Motor funktioniert auch im unteren Drehzahlbereich tadellos. Sicher bis mindestens 2000 Touren runter bleibt alles ruckelfrei. Der moderne KTM V2 hat perfekte Manieren, ist aber immer noch aufregend :)

I went down this side of Stelvio on a sunday morning on virtually empty roads at a fairly decent pace in my MX5 and that still took about 10 minutes longer than you on a KTM, it's amazing how fast motorcycles can get down these roads. (okay you may be "a bit" faster than most riders, but still). Maybe I should just stick to cars, I think I'd kill myself on a bike XD PS. Umbrail pass is my favourite I think...it's definitely closely followed by Col de la Croix-de-Fer/Col du Glandon. There are just so many good roads I loved my drive across. I

my pace varies in the different KTM RAWs but for sure I'm not able to ride my old pace any longer

Oder rappelt und zappelt der Motor unter 3000 Umdrehungen?
Das war immer so eine Eigenschaften die mich an dicken V2 Motoren gestört hat.
Klar, man kann sich auch daran gewöhnen 😁

Hallo Jens! Was du gelesen hast, das stimmt. Der Motor funktioniert auch im unteren Drehzahlbereich tadellos. Sicher bis mindestens 2000 Touren runter bleibt alles ruckelfrei. Der moderne KTM V2 hat perfekte Manieren, ist aber immer noch aufregend :)

Sattes Video. Mit der Power Parts Sitzbank ist die KTM 95% so bequem wie die GS und dann geht die auch gut für mehr als 3 Tage Tour :-)

Hob grod des Video und des aundare mit da CB gschaut und total oarg wie vü smoother und einfocher zum Foahren die KTM wirkt.

thanks for the feedback on the bike! im in the market for a travel adventure bike and am in a struggle between which bike i think i would like the most. still some things id like to look into but this helped for sure. keep up the great vids. always enjoy them

I mean...................that engine ( that i know very well because i've bought the first 1290 in 2015...) is much enjoyable climbing than descending......... 'cause of the immense torque......
I went down this side of Stelvio on a sunday morning on virtually empty roads at a fairly decent pace in my MX5 and that still took about 10 minutes longer than you on a KTM, it's amazing how fast motorcycles can get down these roads. (okay you may be "a bit" faster than most riders, but still). Maybe I should just stick to cars, I think I'd kill myself on a bike XD
PS. Umbrail pass is my favourite I think...it's definitely closely followed by Col de la Croix-de-Fer/Col du Glandon. There are just so many good roads I loved my drive across. I

Ciao Schaaf. at 4:58 you write "you can clearly hear the Italians with their open exhaust"... but in Italy is absolutely prohibited remove the dbkilller from the exhaust. If the police stop you seize the bike and give you the fine. Sorry for my english
it is prohibited in Austria as well and still many people remove them ;)
