Thanks for uploading this I really like this video! I also think Jai Culley was rough and I reckon Rotham should of got delisted instead of Witherden (get this legend to 4k subs)
Hunt had leg injury for a lot of 2024 which really impacted his speed. He played with it but eventually needed a break. When he came back he was playing sore and they tried him wing but struggled a bit. Really was better at half back. But early in 2024 he was outstanding in some games before he went down. I think he is important.
Where I have it currently (pre draft) B: Hough, Edwards, Bazzo HB: Ginbey, Gov, Baker C: Hunt, Reid, Maric R: B Williams, Yeo, Kelly HF: Ryan, Allen, Hewett F: Owies, Waterman, J Williams IC: Duggan, Graham, Hutchinson, Long Sub: Cripps/Dewar Feel like we need that third tall in Bazzo to help the tall defensive stocks in the back half and the exposure to AFL will only further develop his game. Baker could play anywhere but with the amount of small forward types in the team it's a bit of a squeeze so he slots into half back with the flexibility to go anywhere the team needs. It's good to have players fighting for spots more so than previous years with the additions of Baker, Graham and Owies slotting into the 23. Hoping we trade into this year's draft with one of our future first rounders with Melbourne's pick 9 as they are reportedly willing to adjust their draft hand, hopefully targeting Alix Tauru to strengthen the KPB spot. Lindsay at pick 12 would be ideal as well to add to the wing depth. GO EAGLES 🦅
Whilst we don’t have the most depth, it does seem like there is more selection pressure on players and so they’ll really need to fight for their spot. Hopefully this improves the team’s effort
Don’t like to single out players, but there are too many project rucks. They should have delisted 2-3 and targeted an established and hard ruck(emphasis on HARD). Then recruited for midfield/utility players. That will solve the depth issues.
That looks about right, but I hope we get a good look at Bazzo next year. I think the plan should be for McGovern, Edwards and Bazzo to be the three talls in defence. Maric can play anywhere, perhaps rotating with Jack Williams as the third tall in attack. This exercise really highlights our lack of midfield depth. If only we had an early pick available this year to add an elite young midfielder. It's pretty damning that Chesser isn't best 23 going into his fourth season. He's basically been squeezed out by Hutchinson, who needed just 7 games to leapfrog him. Ruck will also be a problem again.
@@aarchetypes Sure, but does he have the tank for that? His field kicking forward of centre is excellent, but the amount of defensive running required for a wingman might be a question mark.
Chesser is a dud, such a wasted pick in what was really our first year of the rebuild. Another obrien master-class. To take chesser over johnson was disgusting
@@scottmeyers4856 Yeah, maybe he's a dud. Or has he been played out of position? Or have we failed to develop him properly? Either way, you'd want a kid drafted at #14 to be best 23 by his fourth season. It does seem like Johnson (or even Darcy Wilmot or Kai Lohmann) would have been the more straightforward selection. Thankfully we got Hough at 31. Bazzo and Jack Williams in that draft as well.
@@BigCatinBKKhonestly anywhere mate hes a gun that just needs some experience, I’ve seen talks about kelly being moved to the wing and seeing how he goes but I feel like they are going to persist with Chesser for one more year

I'm pleased you made a constructive video today, you seemed a bit lost or obligated in the previous upload. But I have some slight variations with the 23 and for starters I'd put Matt Owies starting in the forward pocket and Liam Ryan on the bench, Tom Cole and Liam Duggan half back. Jayden Hunt on the interchange and Jack Williams as the sub. Quintessential line up differences haha, but I'm more bothered with breaking our previous worst record of 4 consecutive seasons now not in finals and 2023 from 8 losses straight to 16 straight losses. Lastly does anyone else think how big an anomaly in 2023, with North Melbourne losing 20 straight games in a 23 round fixture and yet West Coast finished last.
Fantastic assessment, I feel that Burgeil was unlucky, like most young players, struggle with injury and or resilience. I feel most clubs now chew up n spit out young guys without a real chance 💙💛🦅🏆
eagles will never fail, history repeats & we will win a grand final this decade, might bounce back into 8 this year, just win the home games & we pretty much there!
Hunt goes to the wing. Hutchinson hasn't done enough, he goes out. Kelly plays centre. Ried and Hewitt rotate mid - forward pocket and bench. Noah Long comes on to replace bench rotations for Reid and Hewitt. Cripps goes to HF. J. Wiliams plays either CHF or FF. Allows Waterman to take third defender.
I actually like the look of this team, hopefully johnston, hall, chesser, maric, dewar and whoever we get with our draft picks can rotate in out with the older boys to keep their bodies healthy
My Pre draft team round 1 B: Hough Edwards Ginbey HB: Duggan, Gov, Yeo C : Hunt, Reid, Hewitt hF: Owies, Allen, Cripps F: Ryan, Waterman, J. Williams R: Flynn, Baker, Kelly IC : Long, Graham, B. Williams, Maric Sub: Hutchinson Bazzo has missed too much football so taking Edwards and him in a defense without Barrass is a risk. Yeo at half back can play a similar role to Zorko from Brisbane
Our wing and ruck positions are definitely our Achilles’ heel at the moment. We need to lock in strong, full-time players in those spots. If we manage to secure Chad next year, I’d look at targeting Tim English or another experienced ruckman to strengthen our list. 💙💛
Wings and halfbacks seem to be able to rotate well - hunt, ginbey, Duggan, baker. But I would have baker in the centre square and hunt should be starting on the wing. I like maric at half back, he’s got some angry juice in him! And interested where Hutchinson actually plays, had good moments in a few spots. Mids seem to have a heap of forward rotations - Reid, Graham, hewett, Kelly, yeo, Ryan. I would start with yeo, baker and Reid in the middle, with Kelly at half forward. Hewett might start sub or in wafl but will have plenty of afl experience next year when fit.
The defenders. I think Bazzo should be in the mix. Its important to give Maric defence experience too as we have 4 injury prone key defenders on our list and we need guys that can fill the gap. But they need experience first. I reckon we need a bit of pace and run and carry in defence. So needs Hunt at HB or wing. Duggan played an essential defensive mid role at times last year. But Graham and Baker may help with that this year. So Duggan can go back. Haselby had Dewar in back line too. I reckon he could play a Jetta type role in future too. If interested in Haselby's best 22 then go to Sen run home with hase and marto and i think he did it on 17 oct. On line on SEN.
I get the feeling that Culley will find another home, he has had bad luck with timing and hasn't had continuity in games played or position. He is still young. I think he is better than just a fringr player.
@@TheGamingGatheringYT That could work well for them, especially if they take five or more of the picks they currently hold in this draft. Having an extra guy who has a bit of experience and a few pre-season training blocks under his belt would be good even if he is just a "gate keeper" that sets a minimum standard for the first year kids to compare themselves to.
Unfortunately for Culley the game is getting faster and faster. If you cant run you arent useful. Transition is such a critical part of the game, and Culley doesnt have the ability to impact much in that facet. Makes him a bit of a liability. He cant accumulate the footy enough to justify his lack of pace either. Look at guys like Jack Macrae who is elite at finding the ball, but he lacks a bit of pace(still faster than Culley though) and hes been forced to play halfforward for the last 2 years, and now hes traded.
Like the 22, I think Baker starts at half back though. Cripps and Ryan I think might be under a bit of pressure with Dewar, Brockman, and Petch breathing down their necks, I think this will be Cripps last year anyway so he may be managed through the year if hes still playing well enough to justify games each week just to squeeze in a few more games for kids. Brockman to half back as a running distributor Jetta type is one I saw someone mention, I think that one has a lot of merit. Hes super quick and has great foot skills, can apply pressure, and has a bit of explosiveness. Finding the footy is his biggest issue, which wouldnt be an issue at half back. I think he suits this role more than Ryan does tbh. We have too many small forwards anyway
We need to look after Kelly and Yeo this year. So if it means resting them at times or playing forward line or back line then so be it. Kelly had the knee and hip injuries and would benefit from more outside time.
Personally I’m moving baker into the mid and moving Kelly to the wing. My team would be Hough, harry, bazzo Duggan, McGovern, ginbey Maric, Reid, Kelly Bailey W, yeo, baker Ryan, Oscar, hewett Owies, waterman, long Bench Jack graham, j Williams, Cole, Hutchison
I believe Culley was a Jack Gunston type 3rd tall forward, not a midfielder. This would've played more to his strengths and exposed less his lack of pace.
Barnett has to get decent time as lead ruckman in the WAFL team. Its holding up his development. I do agree that CHB is an option too. But he has spent the time playing all over the shop apart from ruck last year. Long term Reid could develop into a ruckman forward as his body fills out. So watch out for that one.
Jack Williams prob has to start in the 18, and Longy will prob be on bench after knee surgery same with Hewitt, and eased into team. I also rate Clay Hall.
Witherden unlucky. But I can see the club has just recruited guys that can play as defensive mids and defenders. So you'd get Duggan Cole Hunt etc all fighting for half back spots and they're all late 20s already. Then you want to keep spots there for Hough Ginbey Johnston etc.. So it came down to too many aging half backs fighting for a couple of spots. They need to bring the kids in. Witherden is a player that could last another 3 years and play good footy for a team that needs an experienced half back.
Young Edwards will be a certified great, his work ethic and intensity cant be matched. Plus with him learning the craft alongside the greats, theres big upside. It would be a huge step back if we dont play get at least 15 games into Dewar, he is our future ryan, and if its the case that he doesnt, we should trade Ryan out next year
Livingstone, Jamieson and Barnett are all rucks playing out of position, which is interesting because your rucks still aren't great in Flynn and Willams. I think if Williams gets fit he could have a break out year like rucks do at his age. really excited to see archer Reid for you guys, watched him as a junior and he looked incredible.
Culley unlucky. Won rising star nomination then does his knee the next week. Comes back 9 months later and has a good WAFL season. Played 3 AFL games but had to wait a long time and then got dropped straight away. He played an average game and a couple of poor games. He struggled to actually go after the footy and seemed more interested at tackling. Probably lacking pace made it difficult chasing fast half backs . But I thought he could have been turned into a marking half forward. Not an area we are missing. But some clubs will hopefully have the need.

Owies Allen JWilliams Followers Flynn Reid Yeo Ressies Maric Long Ryan Bazzo Hutchinson Others Cripps Pettruccelle Chesser Johnston BWilliams The side looks a bit older, so I reckon there will be a lot of pressure put on some of the older guys like Cripps Ryan etc...
Your team is pretty good. But you wonder if its a bit too old ultimately, now that we've brought the three older guys in. We can't really drop youngsters. We need to keep the youngsters and have the older guys fighting over spots. I'd have Bazzo in the mix. I have doubts about guys like Cripps surviving. Cole is a good player but may need a few more tricks. I like the possibility of Hutchinson as a wingman. He runs well and can find the footy, but some of his ball movement was just ok. Maric will be squezed out of forward line.
Hunt is pretty unlucky to be out of the team, especially considering the style of ball movement we would expect from the new coach. Hutchinson may be a better wing in the future but i dont really remember him busting the door down for that position. I wish i didnt feel so "meh" about the state of our list right now, it just looks so patchy. We have so many players being rebranded into different positions.
Culley got 18 months, got a rising star, dominated the WAFL and did his knee, barely got any opportunities this year when he was back and was rumoured to be promised another year by the old eagles management before the new management came in with a older player focus, seems very harsh, Culley if he made it would have been around when the eagles challenged again, will Owies, Baker or Graham be around then ?
@@user-ln8we1ud9c I think Culley is unlucky. But once they brought in Graham it was was going to be difficult. Also the Eagles already have 4 options fighting for mid tall forward spots and a few in the ressies. So its tough to even consider him a marking forward option. While Culley is unlucky its tough to see how he'd be in the starting 25. I feel sorry for him. He was going to be given a year mid season, but once Simmo moved on then things changed.
@@user-ln8we1ud9c agreed he didn't get enough chances this year and got dropped quickly. but you also have to think how many games he would have got if the Eagles hadn't had the injury crisis. I think he can still play AFL especially for a side lacking mid-tall half forwards who can mark the ball.
Would you think that during SSP period 2 solid targets would be Denver Granger-Baras as key back Depth. Harry Barnett should not be in the backline. He is a Ruckman Also Brandan Parfitt would be a really good Depth piece would definitely dominate the WAFL and push for the AFL team
Hewitt is a power athlete, so needs to really work on fitness. With 12 months of foot injuries he will really need to work hard to have the fitness required for midfield. So may have to spend time up forward until his fitness builds. It just takes longer for power athletes who are naturally sprinters. Long plays a Cripps type role. I wonder if he can ever move onto a wing, they reckon he is too small. Graham and Baker will move through the centre clearances I reckon an area we really struggled. Duggan helped out with defensive pressure last year.
@@deanbeissel2807 I'm not saying that. He has done a lot of running over the last couple of years, that has just added to the soreness. Natural fitness and ability to run long distances is related to the individual's make up. Hewitt did the work over the last couple of years. But if you are a power athlete then you need to do a lot extra work into the running to get up to speed. It may take those guys 3-4 years in a squad to get their fitness up to the amount required. Other guys can do it in 6-12 months. That's genetics. In Hewitt's case he is coming from a low base due to the injury, so it will take a couple of years to build up to the fitness required to be a regular midfielder. That's just a fact for him so he'll be more forward. Other guys like Cripps can get up and fit far easier due to genetics. Plus the fact that his base is already high.
Rotham survives temporarily perhaps. GraingerBarrass is still being pursued and if Eagles brought him in then Rotham would be out. Also with Barrass going they maybe need a bit of coverage with a guy that can play on mid sized defenders. Especially with Hedwards, Bazzo McGovern and Jamieson all being injury prone as key defenders.
Imagine Draper or Langford lining up next to reid. This trade period has made me sick and Clarke's incompetence and arrogance is nauseating. Slow clap for pyke and Clarke's stupidity.
Why is Long in before Dewar? He doesn’t impact the scoreboard and Cole should be playing wafl and only needed when injuries to others, I think Long is actually a Mid and I hope we develop him as such in the wafl
dont like Hunt off the bench would rather see it rotate with maric as he can play forward and back but not every week as need tome to develop, Hunt gives us run and pressure off HB, also not sure about Noah Long smart player but too small and not fast enough to apply alot of pressure
There is a chance. A small chance that 3 or 4 talls get drafted before us. It's unlikely but north are in the market for a tall. The Ds have 2 picks before us they can pick a mid and then a tall forward which I think they are after. The tigers can pick 3 mids and then a tall. Before our pick and the saints should take 2 mids but might take a mid and a small forward or a tall. Could be a top 8 guy still at 12.
I feel this will be our Ken Judge era, an era of bringing in oldies from other clubs, not giving a go to our youngsters and having a management that's more interested in band-aide solutions. It feels like a Ken Judge era rebuild to me, not a judd-cousins-kerr rebuild or a shuey-naitanui-kennedy rebuild.

He is a Ruckman
Also Brandan Parfitt would be a really good Depth piece would definitely dominate the WAFL and push for the AFL team
Hewett had that foot issue for 3 years, so maybe it was that rather than strictly fitness that held him back. Hope he stays healthy 👍
Plus the fact that his base is already high.
i'd put Ledwards on the long term injury list... buy him some time to get one of those new helmets being trialled.
We lack outside class and pace.
Rotham survives temporarily perhaps. GraingerBarrass is still being pursued and if Eagles brought him in then Rotham would be out. Also with Barrass going they maybe need a bit of coverage with a guy that can play on mid sized defenders. Especially with Hedwards, Bazzo McGovern and Jamieson all being injury prone as key defenders.
yeah hope they manage to pick up grainger barras he has potential to become a solid def under mcgovern
@@aarchetypes it would be good. but i really rate Bazzo, so will start pushing into the starting 23 I expect.
I'd say Hunt is stiff, seemed to carry an injury this year and gives us pace when he's up and going. I'd have him ahead of Huchinson but like em both!
Unfortunatley we still have that gaping hole in our ruck
What????? You have disappointed me Jesse, no Petrucelle? This time last year, you had him as having Peter Matera traits! 🤔
Imagine Draper or Langford lining up next to reid. This trade period has made me sick and Clarke's incompetence and arrogance is nauseating. Slow clap for pyke and Clarke's stupidity.
I don't think Jayden Hunt will start as a sub this year
Why is Long in before Dewar? He doesn’t impact the scoreboard and Cole should be playing wafl and only needed when injuries to others, I think Long is actually a Mid and I hope we develop him as such in the wafl
dont like Hunt off the bench would rather see it rotate with maric as he can play forward and back but not every week as need tome to develop, Hunt gives us run and pressure off HB, also not sure about Noah Long smart player but too small and not fast enough to apply alot of pressure
If pick 12 isn't in the best 22 it proves that trading pick 3 was the wrong decision
Fingers crossed for Tauru or Travaglia to slide to 12. Need one of those top 8 midfielders tho so hope they can trade future picks to get back in
There is a chance.
I'm guessing that stkilda don't use both of their picks on midfielders. I think Adelaide need a forward
So one year of footy determines if it was the right or wrong decision? 😂
How does this even make sense? 🤣
This is a 5-10 year build mate.
I’d swap Flynn in for Bailey Williams at ruck
Was Bazxo on there?
I really rate Culley's kicking as average rather than above average. Slow, and not a great decision maker under pressure. I'm ok with seeing him go.
Really good. But I would put hunt over Maric or Hutchinson
Do video for charity
id leave cripps out, owies is his replacement. hunt to the wing, dewar sub
Whitherden, thank god hes gone, hopeless
This is a spoon team. Can't wait to see Clarke split pick 1 for pick 84 and 216 next year
