    I remember playing the Wii version as a kid and trying to talk to a friend about the game. I was so confused about why the version he played was so different from mine. It wasn't until a few years ago I learned what was actually going on.

      My “main version” I always had my memories on was the Wii version as a kid literally jumping off stuff over stuff and around things swinging my arms like crazy thinking i was for sure starkiller. I bought the ports of the games 1 and 2 for the Xbox series s and the game is slightly different then so remembered. Didn’t know there were differences across consoles. It is neat though. But I guess I have preference for the Wii version because of the nastolgia

      I played all the versions. And the PS2//Wii versions were the superior in almost every way. What I never got was the fact the original Xbox was Kotor and Jedi Academy capable, and the ps2, while not as powerful as the Xbox, was still pretty level with it. And the Wii was next gen and actually more powerful than the Xbox and GameCube. (That’s right people and Sony pony. PS2 was the most sold yes, but it was the least powerful of the 3. Unreal, I agree. And I didn’t know this fact until a year ago) So by and large, the graphics should of been merely slightly downgrade of the main versions. Tad more blocky, and less enemies on screen sure, but not as downgraded as the Wii version was to match the PS2, which could of done it too, as Kotor and Academy aren’t that less impressive than TFU.
      But I got off track. Overall the PS2/Wii had the one with way more story, customization options, and more powers. I had the PS2 version. And played it WAY more than my 360 version. And when I finally played the Wii version I was blown away. Just like the PS2 version, but the controls were better and the graphics were slightly better. And the duel mode?! OMG I jizzed my pants first time. And I was a 20 something year old at the time. Lol

    I like the detail that the stormtrooper's outfits are a hybrid of the clone and stormtrooper outfits in the PS2/WIi version. I wish they had that detail on the 360/PS3 versions.

      Fun fact - that was actually a custom design by Krome, as I later learned when talking with the project leads for a feature. They even got a unique playset of them as action figures at Target, which apparently blew everyone at Krome's minds.

    • @Red-jz4zv
      @Red-jz4zv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah. Also they should of used those designs in the new Star Wars canon imo. Give the middle timeline a unique flare and separate them from the original trilogy's design of the stormtroopers.

    • @lumethecrow

      The stormtrooper designs in the prologue level are in fact different to the normal stormtrooper designs in the game and movies (although not as apparent as in the Khrome version since they lacked the markings etc) and you can’t really see it unless you walk close to them.

    Krome studio’s version is the reason why The Force Unleashed is so beloved, no wonder there’s people who says it is overrated when they’ve only seen the 360/ps3/Pc versions. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this game is the Actual Force Unleashed and the other ones are the ports. Which would be accurate to say considering how much Krome studio deepened the story and characters.

      Because the Wii was a big seller companies wanted of course to cash on the Wii, but yea because of hardware limitations usually the Wii version is outsourced to another stupid and provited with a smaller budget.
      Here is a fun fact originally the first Epic Mickey was planned to be for all 3 consoles but the studio said they cannot make the game work on the Wii so Disney scrapted the 360/PS3 versions of the game

      If I recall, the base of the Wii version was quite old compared to the PS3. That’s because Krome approached LucasArts with the prototype as a untitled Force Star Wars game. Not sure about the history after but I believed LucasArt then planned and focused on the PS3/Xbox 360 ports to capitalize on the new tech, while Krone was told to finish their prototype under the name of a Force Unleashed port for the older consoles.

    I like the engine cutscenes. It makes the game feel customizable, since as long as you have selected a costume of Starkiller, the cutscenes will adhere to your choice of Lightsaber and Costume. It may be nostalgia, but I kind of prefer the voice acting in Krome’s version. It occasionally puts in certain pauses and specific moments that I think elevate the character through implication. Starkiller is far more professional on missions, only really opening up around PROXY, which makes sense for an emotionally stunted man who has been raised to obey and to kill. He does overdo it occasionally, but I like to view it as him being really indoctrinated into the Sith way of doing things.

  • @MrPerson61

    I've always liked in-engine cutscenes over pre-rendered ones since they share assets with the actual game, and don't look way better than it, then plop you into a low poly/res mess by comparison. Plus iirc it let you use skins you had unlocked to use in cutscenes. They also probably did them in-engine to save space on the PSP's little UMDs that probably couldn't fit all those (relatively) good looking assets as well as a bunch of high res cutscenes.

I asked if she played on the PS3 or 360 and was shocked to hear she said Wii. I just literally assumed her standards were low and went on for years now knowing. When it was announced on the direct this was the version we were getting and now after some research I'm actually genuinely excited to see what I missed all those years ago.

WTF!? That's incredible. Almost looked like LucasArt's Battlefront II or Episode III: The Game!

    I played the 360 version, then the PSP version. I was immensely surprised at how well the port was made and as to how legitimately more enjoyable it was. The game allows you to collect hilts so you can change them out each mission. The cool thing is if you want to follow the book and the graphic novel. You can switch to Kota’s hilt after a certain point in the story where Starkiller is supposed to lose his lightsaber. Vader gives him Kota’s saber as a replacement and that becomes his Jedi saber. After finding his Dad’s blue Kyber crystal he takes Kota’s crystal out to replace it with that one.

This game made me fascinated with the lore of Star Wars even more. The story feels a little bigger in this version. The gameplay and force powers feel more fluid and varied to me. The quick time events feel more powerful and impressive, compared to the basic PS3 and XBox 360 versions. I thank you for giving a fair review.

    @ronaldmichaels3280 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    So, coming back to this video after replaying both this and the HD version extensively, I probably prefer the Krome version by and large. But there's a few things of note.
    Firstly I did not find the level design better in Krome's version. I found it a lot more repetitive and overall having less destructibles to use to your advantage than the HD version. I also feel like the game lacks enemy variety compared to HD, and mixes enemies a lot less. This makes for a much more unchallenging experience compounded by the fact that there's no difficulty slider unlike HD. Yes, HD did have it's frustrating setpieces, but it had plenty of varied and interesting ones to hold my attention.
    Bosses however, are where Krome wins me over. It's yet another area where it's easier, but I feel it comes from a better place here because you still have to try, there's more interesting arenas, and Krome's superior combo game comes together here, where the HD version had plenty of annoying bosses. I just wish Krome could've stuck the landing more with better stages. The mechanics are another subjective thing since I think HD had more experimental gameplay with the force powers and all the different ways you could interact with them, but Krome had better lightsaber combat with a better combo game.
    As for the story, I'm gonna have to disagree with you here about HD's being better. I thought the more stoic nature of Starkiller in Krome's version was largely for the better, as this character basically had his childhood sapped from him by Vader and this is supposed to be his turning point from Sith the Jedi. Krome simply shows us more of his internal conflict informing his motives throughout the game. The more sarcastic side of him in HD's fine but I would not trade these more introspective moments in Krome for it. I'll give you that Krome having Kota fly out into space was dumb and that HD fixed that, but Krome's version is actually the only Star Wars material we see of how Garm Bel Iblis joined the Rebel Alliance, since iirc the books kinda brushed over that part, so I'd say that addition is welcome. I also appreciate the inclusions of Darth Desolus and Darth Phobos as extensions of the lore.
    One last thing is that while the PSP version is the best version side modes-wise, I'm not sure if it's my preferred version since it lacks free camera control, looks and performs worse than the others, and the levels feel smaller and I feel like there's even less enemy mobs, making an already damn easy game even easier despite the camera control not being there. I'll put it to you this way. If I'm interested in side modes I'll go PSP>Wii>PS2, but from the perspective of just wanting to play the story again I'd go Wii>PS2>PSP. The combat on Wii feels surprisingly natural with motion, having directional swings. Nothing as robust as say, Red Steel 2 or Skyward Sword but something I did make use of frequently, and luckily the camera control wasn't sacrificed. I also like the lighting on Wii more than PS2 or PSP, and there's real time shadows that look surprisingly good for Wii

      It's actually quite simple - different development teams, with less oversight (so they have more creative freedom), and while often working with tighter budgets... they're working with lower detail requirements and a stronger emphasis on gameplay or story above all else. Combine that with lowered expectations for success, and it's easier for them to turn it around and impress their publisher & gamers alike.
      There's other factors, but I've talked to folks who've worked on these sorts of handheld versions, and they typically ENJOY the challenge. It's a weirdly more positive atmosphere than what you hear from some mainline console games.

    Both versions of the game are great. I love to replay both. Ps3 has a well told story that's short and sweet with much better graphics. Wii and ps2 are the power fantasy trip with great bosses and more levels. Not as well done story tho

    • @slushg3326
      @slushg3326 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fun fact story is the same across both versions. The teams making the next gen games did not have time to put in everything (talking about story) that the old gen versions had (Bespin mission and Jedi temple comes to mind although Bespin was slightly retooled in the PS3 and 360 versions.
      Some scenes just made it as far as mo-cap for the next gen version.

      Honestly I feel the story is also superior on the Wii. I feel this is not a equal exchange, the Wii version is simply better besides graphics.

    Bro youre channel is great and you definitely deserve more views, BUT my pet peeve is people mispronouncing words that have only one way of pronunciation. Literally no one on earth says vita wrong lol, they tell you how to say it in every commercial. anyways keep up the good work this video is extremely good and its on a gaming subject that not a lot of people have touched on. I didn't have a 360 or PS3 back then. I did buy the PS2 version of Force Unleashed though and played quite a bit of it. It was a pretty good game. I also bought the PS2 version of Mercenaries 2 which was a terrible game. But ps3 and 360 version wasn't any better. Force Unleashed was easily worth the $30 or $40 I paid for it back then. It reminded me of God of War just with some physics-based gameplay elements. I finally got a PC capable of playing games well in 2016 and I bought the PC verson of Force Unleashed 1 and 2 during a Steam sale years ago. I even have Fallen Order which I bought during a sale recently for $15. Though I haven't played it yet.

    • @UnabridgedGamer
      @UnabridgedGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it's rather bonkers they're not including the PSP content since they're clearly using the PS2 models and ragdoll physics, plus enhanced lighting.
      I know for a fact from discussing with the Krome devs in an interview that the PSP content was totally viable for Wii if they'd had more time. So not including it in what will be viewed as the definitive modern remaster of the game is a huge oversight on Aspyr's part.
      Otherwise looks fine, but it just seems a shame it's not COMPLETE, you know?

    • @UnabridgedGamer
      @UnabridgedGamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, though I think that comes down to the trick of balancing for good gameplay over authenticity. Jedi: Fallen Order's lightsaber combat, much vaunted as it is for being closer to the films, magically stops working like a lightsaber whenever you face a boss as well.
      Until a Star Wars game is willing to go for a really high risk/reward difficulty curve, I'm not sure sabers are ever going to be quite like the movies.
