  • Fuel injector failure is not super common on this VW TSI engine. However fuel injector replacement may be needed. In this video we will replace a fuel injector on a TSI engine. You can follow the same process on an Audi TSI, Skoda TSI, SEAT TSI and of course a VW TSI engine. The process will be basically the same for the Gen 3 EA888 2.0t and 1.8t.

    Hey Charles! I love your content and wanted to give a quick tip that I remember from college for anyone who may not know. At around the 10 minute mark you mentioned needing to calculate for the extra distance on the torque adapter. When using a torque wrench with any sort of adapter, and you don't know the formula to calculate for the extra distance, just offset the adapter to 90 degrees and you wont need to do any maths.

    Great video Charles! Very clear and concise. As far as injector replacements go, it may look a bit daunting to some, but looks to be about average for most modern DI-type engines. The by-gone days of replacing injectors on a Mk1 CIS engine are long behind us. Thanks for giving us this insight on what it takes to service injectors today.

    I've been doing a little trick with the CCTA teflon seals. Stretch out the new seal with a pen or pencil tip slightly, just barely enough to slip over the injector tip. Get it in the groove, then take a zip tie and wrap it around the seal and tighten the ziptie to compress the seal and flatten it out in the groove. Never had any leaks and its nice snug fit.

    sooo.. in a bind here Mr. Humble .. did a carbon cleaning ( 15' GTI s @ 86k ) was a great learning experience your videos are awesome and a HUGE help!! its cool seeing how everything is so tightly fit into these engine bays . i got through that part fine, slowly but fine .. cleaning went well .. i was really satisfied how clean the walnut blasting process made the valves. putting everything back together wasn't to to bad.. i had a minor issue with the HP fuel line .. the nut to the fuel rail wasn't snug enough and the fuel system was not happy.. fixed that .. drove the car a little .. will admit the idle was pretty rough which i expected . . seemed like after a mile or so it smoothed out.. drove back home no issue.. then after a couple hours went to start the car again.. crazy bad idling .. i have obd11 plugged in.. ran the scan after shutting off the car ( i did get a epc light after this last start up ) come back i got " HIDE CYLINDER" and Misfire Cyl 4 . also did a live run with OBD11 and heavy misfire count on 4 also.. did some swapping around coils .. spark plugs.. issue still remained in cyl 4.. my concern is when i did the walnut blasting and some use of CRC valve cleaner that its possible some of that cleaner made its way into the cylinder .. i was going to try my next guess which would be replace the injectors ... would that be the next place to look?. i figured if the injector is stuck open .. to much fuel .. car shuts that cyl down as a fail safe. . or the spark plug is just getting dumped on from fuel and thas my misfire? * side note, i did not replace the intake manifold yet . also was considering that too. . if you or anyone w/ just as much knowledge sees this .. i appreciate any info , thanks

    • @MitzYMihai
      @MitzYMihai 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Change timing belt and tensioner every 100k km, use only good quality diesel fuel, change glow plugs every 100k km, drive outside of town at least once a week to help burn those carbon deposits in the DPF and the EGR valve.
      Also get oil changes every 9 months or 10k km (my personal suggestion) and change the brake fluid and coolant every 2-3 years.
      Make sure that when you replace brake discs that you use OEM parts, otherwise they will start to vibrate under braking pretty soon and have good tires mounted on the car.
      One more thing that is specific to VW Diesels is to check sometimes using a good diagnostics computer, the values of the injectors. They should be close to zero and add up to be 0 and not see any values that are sky high compared to the others.
      If you have a DSG transmission and don't beat on it that hard you can change the oil in it every 5 engine oil changes (10k intervals), or if you are beating on it, then 3-4 oil changes.
      Check your exhaust pipe. The tail should be clan and not covered by carbon buildup. You should be able to put your finger inside the pipe, rub it on the edge and get your finger out clean. If it's dirty, then you have a problem with the engine or the DPF or Turbo.

      I had an issue a few years back on generators using the 8.1 gm engine.
      They had a pcv can about half the height of a coffee can with a metal screen filter located inside.
      Every 6mo I'm at most of these sites and the amount of white goop in them is horrendous , like a cup worth.
      The newest ones I've been seeing for the last year or so don't have an issue , they wrap them up in a blanket and the condensation passes thru them a lot easier.
      Basically I don't need to clean em anymore.
      So some kind of wrap and having it near the engine for heat would help.

    Re the cylinder compression seal on the injector, only the stretch to put it on was shown, there is a secondary compression step, so don't think you can do that without the tool very successfully.

    Like your video! I have a 2012 VW CC 2.0 tsi, recently I am experiencing a hard time because when deeping the accelerator, cylinder 2 misfire increased quickly and the engine is shaking. sparks and coils are OK, and I did the cylinder compression test and all 4 cylinders are around 130 psi which is not good but not that bad. I am thinking if there is anything wrong with the fuel injector in cylinder 2.... anyone any suggestions?

    I noticed on the removal and subsequent installation of the injectors there's a part from the injector kit missing. It's the round plastic part with legs/arms like a little table. Is it not necessary????

    I love your videos. I have "only" been watching for 2-3 years, and I have just realised that I haven't subscribed until now...
    In regards to the video I am very disappointed that VW didn't fix this issue with soot building up on the backside of the intake valves. This is 2020, and they have had this issue from 2006 when the 1. gen 1.4 TSI twin charged engine was introduced in Europe. I actually still have mine with only 89.000kms.

    • @klashninez
      @klashninez 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Fl. so is the soot build up in the intake manifold is caused by a faulty injector? As I've got the 1.4 tsi 122 and got same issue, the intake manifold full of soot :/. Tia

    • @d1zguy864
      @d1zguy864 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did fix it but only in euro since 2014 at least www.greencarcongress.com/2014/01/2014014-audi.html european EA888's with multi-port injection. Regular port injection for idle, cruise, and direct injection for high rpm high load.
      Shame because this is why I passed on all USA bound VAG products simply because of this and went with other manufacturers since 2014 or just bought non direct injected VW's since.
      Various assessment criteria are used to co-ordinate the different injection modes, including:
      efficiency, knocking;
      emissions, especially particle mass and number;
      manifold wall condensation, fuel in the engine oil; and
      smooth running.
      They won't admit it but the smooth running is because it cleans the intake valves from the deposits.

      used during part load running to clean valves and reduce particulate part of Euro 6. Guess VW hasn't learned from diesel gate still penny pinching to the max and cheap as fck in the USA . Someone with time and money should see if their cars infringe in EPA or some sort of law when they offer this in Europe but not in USA.
      This plus fck bouracracy and shitty companies giving two fucks about engineering and environmental progress makes me want to have Tesla and electric cars just fully take over and make all gas cars illegal for daily commuter use. VAG should be paying billions and billions more in fines to the US government for being assholes with their shit designs in the last 10 years and dirty cars they keep pushing unto USA dealers

    My 2012 Golf R has around 120,000+ miles on it now, and I'm unaware of any service done of a full carbon clean. Im also aware that the PCV diaphragm tends to rupture or tear after many miles. Is it smart to invest in like a Racingline catch can where they replace the PCV? (Well, part of it, only for the EA113, the EA888 gets a totally replaces PCV from racingline). I take this car to the track and do spend a lot of time in the higher RPM range and have heard of that PCV oil blow-by that some Mk7's are known to have while on track days.

    Just finished doing a lot of work on my 1.4TSI CAXA engine - new timing chain, VVTi pulley, intake camshaft, oil pump, VVTi solenoid, cam sensor and spark plugs. The engine has a high misfire count [around 100] on cylinder 3 only when cold but the count doesn't rise when it gets to temperature. I've done the obvious and swapped the coil pack with cyl 2 but the misfire didn't follow it. A question... could this behaviour be symptomatic of an injector issue ? Just want to get some advice before I embark on replicating what Charles has done here. Thanks in advance.

    I wouldn't need the special tool to reseal the injectors if I just buy brand new injectors correct? @@sshmunk The o-rings that are pressed onto the injectors expand after being pressed on, so I took it back to the shop that pressed them on and they redid them. I put them straight in after that with no problems. So once you have the o-rings sealed onto injectors, make sure you install them right after and don't wait days later like I did.

    Humble mechanic.i have a question I hope you please help me with ..would the process you show be generally the same in an on a V8 fsi engine ..I a 2008 4.2 Touareg 2 several months ago we or he changed cylinder 7 injector for high rpm misfire and carbon clean for fired up and ran like a champ 2 months later I started getting same misfire on cylinder 5 high rpm so my thoughts instead of doing this again and again I'll jus replace all except cylinder 7 I found some online EBAY unbranded ..basically a cheap set ordered them and I left him to the task it took a little over a week due to weather and a tool he needed pull injectors he reinstalled all buttoned it up and it cranks for a long period the fires runs for 20 seconds and stalls we initially got crank sensor code but it starts it will idle has misfire a soon as you give it gas it stalls ....my question is is their any thing that could have happened in the process of reinstalling the manifold that could cause this issue ? It seems straight forward ..or is it or would it be more thank likely the cheap way out ..the injectors ?...your thoughts would be greatly appreciated
