A needle with a bit of flux on the tip should be a better tool to pick and place tiny parts, by leveraging superficial tension. A friend of mine was using this technique when building jewelry.
Absolutely brilliant Steve! The alignment of the chip was amazing, and even though the stupid chip broke you got some good practice in with reballing them, so that's a win 🏆 great job bud, love it 😀
I love the cod3r he's the reason we know what most of the error codes mean. The fact he works out of his shead is amazing. He's a self taught legend. He's inspired me to learn. I have always had a nack for fixing things. I could strip and rebuild a Jag V12 engine at 12 years old as I grew up with 4 generations of mechanics. My grandad was an RAF mechanic in WW2 my dad was a mechanic for Jaguar my older brother is a mechanic for BMW and I grew up to work for purgeot. Now I had to give up work due to MS my body is failing me but my mind is still working at 1000% I was diagnosed with autism so i always have to be doing something or I drive my wife crazy taking the microwave apart or something 😂. I just got into fixing electronics I started by repairing my brother's OG Xbox replacing all the caps and modding the fan with a led fan and led ports at the front. I'm starting with older stuff that's easier before going to modern tech. I hate seeing things thrown away so I fix anything from furniture to hoovers, TVs, pc, laptop etc. I have a a garage full of tech that I keep incase I need parts or wires and it has come in handy a few times especially with Dyson hoovers. People will throw them away when they just need a clean or a new tube or seal.
Steve. I’m not sure if you’re aware of this but you are extremely talented. You always knock yourself for not being “good” at things but in actuality, you have skills and patience not many others share. I’ve worked on electronics for 30+ years and can’t do or wouldn’t attempt to do the things you do. When you see a chip you’re working on under the microscope, the viewer thinks it’s huge but most don’t realize how unbelievably small these things are. You are brilliant and a blast to watch. Keep up the good work.
Great video. This is probably the most intimidating thing about microsoldering for me so it's nice to see you do so well on your first attempt. Gives me (some) hope!
Great job, really impressed. So far I've fried a Nintendo processor despite beautifully fitting a new USB chip and M92. Over heated the board and now have to break the news to a 9 yr old! This repair game is hard! Hat off to you and of course Phil and all community.
Man, your videos are inspiring me to take the pile of work I've screwed up in the past and fix it. Yesterday I fixed my GameBoy Color I messed up the sound chip trying to change the potentiometer, but now it's working again! Thank you, Steve.
Good first effort reballing Steve. Phil is a legend!! Watch both your channels and love them. You guys inspired me to get a efi locked MacBook Pro working. Stupid old efi chip swapped and hey presto!! A fully functioning laptop once again. Keep up the great work!!!
Amazing outcome there Steve! I was really holding my breath when you were reflowing that chip to the board and those capacitors starting swimming about.. nice result tho👍
Good Job Steve. I would love to see some sort of compilation video with you, Phil, and Vince, maybe for your soon to be 100k subscribers? 3 of my favorite TH-cam dudes.
I really hoped you would succeed. But next time you will do it. I definitely think that the chip was broken, otherwise you would have done it. Lovely videos, great fixes. Keep it up.
Hahaha, I love your songs, that's my type of humor right there! Awesome job, it's crazy how tiny these things are. I thought no human being could fix it.
Great job! Hey, I've seen other videos of yellow tape being used over the nearby fuses/capacitors to shield from the heat gun. Is there any merit in doing that?
Excellent job in replacing the ESD chip. But one thing annoys me, your XBox is sending it’s heat directly to the Denon amplifier that could bring faster wear on it. Mine is put sideways so it blow more to the back than on my Set top box and my Blu-Ray player. Another way would be to swap the two so that your XBox expels to the wall.
Hey Stez I am really interested in your console, TV audio setup - any chance you could do a quick video to show us your setup? I still run an old XBox360 and PS3 but have them frankesteined through my very old PC to play the audio and the like. Anyway, great video as always and glad you go the ESD chip thingy fixed
@@darkspongebob11 I should probably clarify My consoles are running into my PC monitor(s), but as the monitors I am running have no speakers, I am currently running the audio into my pc and outputting the audio into my 5.1 speaker setup - IT certinly isn't a great setup as I then need my PC on just to hear anything. So my 360 for example (it's the old, old version so no hdmi output, I have VGA or phono, I use th VGA to a hdmi output but tha leaves me with the audio on the phonos) I have just found out about HDMI splitters so looking into that too. Back to Steve's setup, He has loads of different consoles hooked to his TV and just wondered how he switcehs between them and handles the sound of the older onces - I can see a Denon box, so guessing that some sort of amp? and as he has multiple speakers, again guessing he is running some surround setup - would be cool to learn more Cheers
@@RyanDavidHale it looks like a fancy tv so it possibly might have a lot more ports then a normal probably cheaper tvs and yeah even if there isnt enough you can get splitters and stuff to actually get more ports, i ideally need this so i can actually Easly switch between them because i only have one port on my extremely cheap tv

I think it detected some voice over after the chip broke. "Family friendly" only if your kids can't read lips! I'm just taking the piss. I can barely solder onto pads that are the size of that entire chip. That was a valiant attempt, and required larger balls than many androids are currently equipped with. Good show all the same.
Stupid ESD filter thing
Good Dave though!
A needle with a bit of flux on the tip should be a better tool to pick and place tiny parts, by leveraging superficial tension. A friend of mine was using this technique when building jewelry.
I was expecting you to get ganked from behind by an invis-Elite and say "stupid Halo".
The steadiness in your hands is unreal mate. That is intricate work fella ! Love the channel
Can I ask, what size balls do you have? On the ESD ? Are they .2, .25, or .30mm?😊

This time the singing (especially the Halo outro) outclassed the soldering. Nice.

Handling small Balls like that takes Talent !!🤣 Well done sir.
The music just takes this video to a different level.
Good cod3r 😂

pretty funky rap, loved that Larry made an appearance. Good old days 😁😆👍
Gotta love direct balled Silicon Dies soldered to the board....
I love the repair community. So supportive. Hats off to you, the cod3r and all the other repair guys out there. 👍
Gotta love Phil. He does so much for the community and always assisting others with help and spreading knowledge 🌟

I wonder who invented those ball chips... it had to be someone who firmly supports castration - Well done mate !!!! That's some micro stuff there.
🤣 definitely! Thanks Ron, much appreciated! 👍
I suspect it was the same guy who invented those bloody ballbearing maze pixels I had a a kid. Lol
Congratz on being the first repairer that I've seen replace that chip and still get the 4k to work!
The beat on the Patreon shoutout this time is great :)
You are 1 funny man, thanks for putting a smile on my face
Loved the first 2/3 of the songy thing
Have you tried Kapton tape to try and hold down other chips and try cancell out some heat while using heat gun to solder

Great video Steve. The easiest way to reball is to use a reball stencil. You can also use solder paste with the stencil.
The patience you have is off the charts. Fantastic re-fix!
Steve rocking up with a Julia Child "Oh, here's one I've set up earlier!" with Phil's chip would have been a giggle.
Good practice stez even though chip broke but still a great fix though
I was worried there wasn't going to be a rap and then I was hit with one of the best ones yet.
Hard to believe such a tinny thing is what makes it possible to do higher resolution. Good job Stez.

It wasn't on camera unfortunately, but yeah I picked it up with my tweezers to look at it and it broke apart! 😬
