Make sure that a "grid plane" you are trying to drag your image onto is active ( left plane number "1" key on your keyboard, right plane "3", or horizontal plane "2"). I hope this will help.

It is as if my artwork is locked! no idea why...layer is not locked. if I draw anything it is fine but the artwork which is grouped already...just does not move...please tell me why and how can I move it to place it in left plane? if I draw or type text it is fine and I am able to place in left plane. but the artwork I made just does not move! please advise. thank you

You will need to vectorize those images. Illustrator is a vector program, and you'll run into issues using raster files with it. (distortion, quality loss, finite size, etc.) If using this method with a restor file, make sure your source file is larger than what you're skewing it to.
