      It looks almost white in the video, but that's just my Iphone being a dick.

    Ouch, I can’t believe you picked up all of the rail just to paint the ramp of the cork. Oh well, it will help seal the cork from humidity. You did a great job on the uncoupling magnets, the second set worked perfectly. You’re making great progress.

      I had to lift the track or I would have got paint on the ties. No biggy, I had planned to do that anyway.

    Dave, great concept for uncoupler solution! Going to have to think about placement of them on my layout.

      It will make a great scene, looking forward to your plans for the industrial sector. Perhaps take some inspiration from the Hamilton steel mills?

    Don't know how you plan to do your water, but I've had good success with rippled acrylic (shower door material) and a few different blues and greens in rattle cans. Fairly cheap, easy and not much mess. Your local glass shop may have leftover pieces at a good price.

      I was going to try epoxy resin, but I'll start with something small. Thanks for your ideas.

    I`ve been playing around with eletromagnets, no success yet. I did pick up some kadee magnets for 4 quid so not to bad if you can find em cheap.

    I've used the Woodland Scenics hotwire cutter for years now, and love it. But the one you show here eliminates the limitations of the WS one. I didn't know about it until now. Thanks for letting us know about it.

    The tiny magnets are a great idea, I've been looking at uncoupling set ups, and yours is a no faff method, nice one. Good sized lake to model as well Dave, enjoying following your progress. Time to get yourself a nice steam loco for your museum line. :) All the best. Brian @ The Angels

    Make sure to mark the location of your magnets. It's hard to see them after ballasting. Use a figure, sign or similar object. Then when your couplers are next to it your golden. Nice job so far.

    • @ScottRails

      I might add a little work person next to each uncoupling location.

    I never painted my cork, I simply lay the track then did all my ballasting. No cork shows through. I do see the point though

      I painted it the first time, but didn’t bother when I restarted the new design.

    Hi Scott. I have reinvented this Kadee uncoupler wheel and have some tips to suggest. They are a bit too involved to list here, so if you would send me an email, I'll reply in detail. Use my mods as you will. I believe they will get you past any future uncoupling hurdles. Jim

    Bet you never thought you’d talk to someone lying on their back under a bench. Lake is an an interesting alternative to a river which may have more complications.

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You doing some wiring under there? The beauty with our local lakes is, they are connected to the sea, so international trade ships are still an option.

    • @geoffwilcock1519

      @@ScottRails yes I am. Three rewires because I didn’t plan it first. I never realised models railways were joinery and electrical wiring with running trains 3rd 😀

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@geoffwilcock1519 hahaha, yes, I'm trying to learn by everyone else's mistakes. I'm going to run two sets of bus wires. One for track, one for switches and lights etc. Feeders at pretty much every section of track. Not that it's required, but, you know, while I'm under there, why not.

    • @geoffwilcock1519

      @@ScottRails dunno if it’s of any use but I finally decided on drawer rails with a piece of plywood instead of drawer. Let’s me slide out junction points, turnout switches etc rather than breaking my back under bench. Btw previous house owner built benches into garage room in roof using joists so I had to work with what was there or flatten garage 😂

    Did you set the magnets with the same polarity or opposite polarities?
    Don't grind the magnets, nasty dust, toxic if I remember correctly.

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are set with the same polarity. Idea being, they pull the coupler hooks towards them.

    • @hirsutusi5536
      @hirsutusi5536 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ScottRails I've done something similar at the top of my hump yard but I oriented the magnets with opposite polarities, works great, give it a try. I think the bigger magnets buried in the roadbed will work if one of them is reversed. The Kadee uncoupling magnets have opposing poles at each side, that's where I got the idea of opposite poles.
