The most irritating thing about the GTA V single player DLC story is that there is ABSOLUTELY a timeline in which GTA Online *didn't" print infinite money and TakeTwo used that as an excuse for not being able to invest in more single player content. I miss the days when success for a game meant the developers were given more freedom in terms of creative output.

This was never a "mistake" that Microsoft was correcting. Low Gamepass pricing was ALWAYS intended as a loss-leader to scale up the subscriber count and normalize the practice of subscription gaming. Once Microsoft "hooked" consumers, they would then use the levers at their disposal (pricing and access to games) to extract more money from consumers. This is no different from ridesharing or food delivery apps using VC funding to subsidize attractive prices and scale their user numbers, only to increase prices as soon as they gain marketshare.

Yep, didn't need a crystal ball to see this one coming. For a lot of people Game pass has been a cheap way to play games. But the model was never going to be sustainable in the long term. Of course MS was going to raise the price eventually. I'm so glad I never subscribed to battle pass. I don't go through games as quick as I used to, so game pass was never attractive for me. And now it's even less attractive.
@@Valvad0ssit’s not that simple. Some degree of inflation is normal. It happens in every currency based economy. But companies also use normal inflation as an excuse to price gouge, too. The cost of eggs back in 2022 is a good example. There was some degree of natural inflation but egg producers also used that as an excuse to jack up the prices by 50-100% in some places, way beyond the normal rate of inflation.

The thing about Destiny is that its really hard to get into these days. I tried it a few months ago and was bombarded with non linear story and mechanics that were added through the years. The First Descendant is pretty fun, but the main thing is that it doesn't come with a decade of baggage to figure out. It would be great to hear your thoughts on the game at launch as a Destiny 2 fan.
I ALMOST came back to Destiny 2 with The Final Shape but after watching some videos there's just way too much going on. I've played a bit of The First Descendant and honestly the gunplay just isn't that good. Nowhere near what Bungie does, which is the entire reason I wanted to go back to Destiny in the first place. They're still best in class at making a shooter feel good. Hoping for Destiny 3 in 2026!

Btw on that hotline miami thing , anyone who wants something like hotline miami thats also its own thing i can't recommend katana zero enough. The kicker for First Descendant that all Warframe players will notice is that there is NO player to player trading and that the items to double you mod capacity can only be bought with real money. You get two Exchangers (FD equivalent of WF pototoes) during the campaign, the rest must be purchased for real money. Also, remember six months ago Nexon was fined for removing chase loot drops in Maple Story..
EDIT: I learned some information that suddenly makes this seemingly pedantic hate of Dawntrail make WAY more sense. Trans rights are human rights. yeah, the Dawntrail reception is... honestly very odd to me? I quite enjoyed what Creative Business Unit 3 laid down with a 2-tiered story about legacy and moving forward while paying proper tribute to that mantle you wear going forward. I liked the new cast and was generally greatful that the more narratively explored characters took a supporting role. It's refreshing not having everyone worship the ground the Warrior of Light walks upon and having it be all about the WoL. that's been the chief complaint I've read in reviews.
I feel like a lot of people walked in expecting something as grandiose as Endwalker was when that should have never been the case. Endwalker was the finale to a 10 year buildup and the devs have already been saying that this is basically a vacation from everything and was going to be experimental. Seems like a lot of people didn’t like that the spotlight wasn’t constantly on the anymore either but I personally loved going to a new place I know nothing about and acting as a new warrior’s mentor.
I feel like people forgot we weren't the main focus of the story until Shadowbringers. Heavensward had Alphinaud and Stormblood had Lyse as their MC's, so it's fun just being along for the ride on this adventure again!
I've been seeing a lot of people who didn't enjoy the story being told they didn't like it because they weren't the center of attention. Personally I would of loved a good story where I was a side character.
I freaking loved the DT story. I appreciated just being along for the adventure and being a highly skilled friend, while the world and character building were both excellent. I did all the story and have done nearly all the side content, and I have zero complaints. I actually like it far more than Endwalker. I feel like the dungeon and trial design are tighter, while Endwalker felt like it wasn't really made for me as someone that only started playing when 6.2 was the new hot patch. Dawntrail feels like it was made for anyone new or old to get invested in.
It's not surprising at all that Dawntrail's launch would have more concurrent users than ShB or Endwalker, they've added at least 16 more servers since EW came out- they simply have more capacity. EW's launch was a mess particularly because the pandemic and chip shortage meant that Square could not get the supplies necessary to build more servers, and as such they were not able to expand capacity to meet demand.

I don’t mind a price increase given the cost of ABK, however, the way they handled this was awful. They claimed back in June that game pass console would have black ops 6 day one only to completely remove it as an option. I’m at my last stage of justifying gamepass so another price increase will be the end of my subscription also
Not gonna lie, all this talk at the beginning of the financial side of gaming made my eyes glaze over. They're getting greedier and screwing over consumers in the process. A question you ask is why someone would play The First Descendant when there's Warframe (And Destiny) The simple answer? I've literally done everything in Warframe. 6,000 hours, L4, own everything, done everything, enough plat to buy whatever I want, etc. It's more something to pass the time in the genre whilst waiting for something new from DE :p
plus the onboarding for those 2 games sucks for new pkayers. Ive tried them both this year when suicide squad gave me the looter itch but couldnt scratch it. Destiny is loaded with DLC locks. almost everything you try to click is blocked by dlc. warframe was just confusing. i literallt couldnt figure out what to do. furthermore, idk what people have against the gameplay. I started out with Boob Window (the freeze character) and her abilities trumped anything i played in my 10 hours in destiny in terms of fun. In destiny i had like a grenade, a float, and a healing circle? with her i got a grenade, this cool ice trail abilities that gives a speed boost and laces the ground with freeze, a sick frozen attack that underhand chucks freeze at enemies stopping them in place , and a high damage ultimate blizzard to take down huge groups. Super fun, super engaging, and thats just one character. ve unlocked 3 for free in the first week. destiny i dont think i ever got to change. same with warframe. Not to mention - GRAPPLING HOOK BABY. Very fun universal mechanic. even furthermore, whats witht he lack of nuance in regards to the store? there are ultimate characters, and they cost $50 yes (theres 3 of them) but the remaining 12 characters are literally $6 a piece. and ALL of them are unlockable for free with gameplay. I think the player count really shows the truth here. theyve got a good game with good bones and it will only get better as time goes on. meanwhile warframe and destiny are DINOSAURS. very good games but very old. same reason people will play concord and that marvel hero shooter when they come out. overwatch is 9 years old bruv.
It works (see FFXIV, carrying Square Enix's ass before ff7R and 16) its just that you actually need to be putting in effort with your product and not just be in it for the money to ensure people stay and continue to subscribe.

This was the least surprising thing Xbox could do imo. A price increase was always in the cards and only putting new games Day 1 on Ultimate was something I personally found a sensible idea months ago to not make Xbox bleed cash with every new release. Game development is expensive and, because Game Pass massively cuts into sales, they wouldn't for all eternity subsidize it.
I wish the 'games' that they spent so much money on developing were any good. They have absolutely nothing to show for after all these years. Only price increases for Gamepass.

The problem with Gamepass is that it isn't Netflix or Apple Music. Those are entrenched services which have long shaped how we consume music and film/tv. Gamepass is still relatively new, and given it's attached to the worst selling console, they don't have a level of command over their customers that Disney does when they increase their prices.
The increasing monetization and FOMO tactics of F2P , multiplayer, and live service games are what shifted me into becoming a purely single-player gamer.

Im halfway through Dawntrail but Im really liking it so far. It just struggles because besides the Scions its needs to introduce everything else as we are in a new continent with new characters and concepts. Its like the ARR of the new story saga. Exoprimal was your 'Dino Crisis Remake'. A protag (at least one of them) who was practically Regina. A gameplay loop that was actually pretty fun of shooting dinosaurs. Gameplay not too far removed from the subsequent Dino Crisis entries (that really didn't sell very well). If Exoprimal was another one of Capcom 'feelers' in order to gauge the market reception in order to determine whether or not an investment into an actual Dino Crisis Remake is worth it, best to hope Capcom didn't see Exoprimal as a "failure". That said, one shouldn't rule out the possibility of a proper Dino Crisis remake, but don't expect it to be a high priority given Capcom's more consistent cash cows.

Just canceled Game Pass yesterday after this announcement. I wanted to stick around for one or two more months to finish some games I started after the Tango Gameworks closing and Microsoft layoffs. This change was just an immediate cancellation. You can't just lay off thousands of devs and raise prices to recover from executive failures. What absolute garbage. Going to call my congress people to complain about anti-competitive and monopolistic behavior.
Actually they can, and they will. Whining to your government because customers spend money how they see fit won't make a difference. People will still keep buying their products at the price they are willing to pay. You won't, but the rest will. Same principle can be applied to Apple. Even if their products are insanely overpriced garbage, people are still gonna buy it. So why bother lowering the price when the sheep is none the wiser.
There's one really good thing about capcom... they've NEVER given up on throwing out Weird Shit ever so often even if it doesn't work out... and then they tend to reap what worked about the weird stuff they tried, and use it for making better games.

The thing about Destiny is that its really hard to get into these days. I tried it a few months ago and was bombarded with non linear story and mechanics that were added through the years. The First Descendant is pretty fun, but the main thing is that it doesn't come with a decade of baggage to figure out.

I ALMOST came back to Destiny 2 with The Final Shape but after watching some videos there's just way too much going on. I've played a bit of The First Descendant and honestly the gunplay just isn't that good. Nowhere near what Bungie does, which is the entire reason I wanted to go back to Destiny in the first place. They're still best in class at making a shooter feel good. Hoping for Destiny 3 in 2026!

Btw on that hotline miami thing , anyone who wants something like hotline miami thats also its own thing i can't recommend katana zero enough. Amazing weird trippy story, gameplay is amazing where you are a sword wielding samurai killing thugs with guns , and you can parry bullets in bullet time but by the end you'll be good enough to do it in real time which feels amazing

The kicker for First Descendant that all Warframe players will notice is that there is NO player to player trading and that the items to double you mod capacity can only be bought with real money. You get two Exchangers (FD equivalent of WF pototoes) during the campaign, the rest must be purchased for real money.
Also, remember six months ago Nexon was fined for removing chase loot drops in Maple Story..

yeah, the Dawntrail reception is... honestly very odd to me? I quite enjoyed what Creative Business Unit 3 laid down with a 2-tiered story about legacy and moving forward while paying proper tribute to that mantle you wear going forward. I liked the new cast and was generally greatful that the more narratively explored characters took a supporting role.
It's refreshing not having everyone worship the ground the Warrior of Light walks upon and having it be all about the WoL. that's been the chief complaint I've read in reviews.
I feel like a lot of people walked in expecting something as grandiose as Endwalker was when that should have never been the case. Endwalker was the finale to a 10 year buildup and the devs have already been saying that this is basically a vacation from everything and was going to be experimental. Seems like a lot of people didn’t like that the spotlight wasn’t constantly on the anymore either but I personally loved going to a new place I know nothing about and acting as a new warrior’s mentor.
I feel like people forgot we weren't the main focus of the story until Shadowbringers. Heavensward had Alphinaud and Stormblood had Lyse as their MC's, so it's fun just being along for the ride on this adventure again!
I've been seeing a lot of people who didn't enjoy the story being told they didn't like it because they weren't the center of attention. Personally I would of loved a good story where I was a side character.
I freaking loved the DT story. I appreciated just being along for the adventure and being a highly skilled friend, while the world and character building were both excellent. I did all the story and have done nearly all the side content, and I have zero complaints. I actually like it far more than Endwalker. I feel like the dungeon and trial design are tighter, while Endwalker felt like it wasn't really made for me as someone that only started playing when 6.2 was the new hot patch. Dawntrail feels like it was made for anyone new or old to get invested in.
It's not surprising at all that Dawntrail's launch would have more concurrent users than ShB or Endwalker, they've added at least 16 more servers since EW came out- they simply have more capacity. EW's launch was a mess particularly because the pandemic and chip shortage meant that Square could not get the supplies necessary to build more servers, and as such they were not able to expand capacity to meet demand.
The not so subtle anti-corporatocracy in SkillUp videos unironically makes a great channel even better

I don’t mind a price increase given the cost of ABK, however, the way they handled this was awful. They claimed back in June that game pass console would have black ops 6 day one only to completely remove it as an option. I’m at my last stage of justifying gamepass so another price increase will be the end of my subscription also

A question you ask is why someone would play The First Descendant when there's Warframe (And Destiny)
The simple answer? I've literally done everything in Warframe. 6,000 hours, L4, own everything, done everything, enough plat to buy whatever I want, etc.
It's more something to pass the time in the genre whilst waiting for something new from DE :p
plus the onboarding for those 2 games sucks for new pkayers. Ive tried them both this year when suicide squad gave me the looter itch but couldnt scratch it. Destiny is loaded with DLC locks. almost everything you try to click is blocked by dlc. warframe was just confusing. i literallt couldnt figure out what to do.
furthermore, idk what people have against the gameplay. I started out with Boob Window (the freeze character) and her abilities trumped anything i played in my 10 hours in destiny in terms of fun. In destiny i had like a grenade, a float, and a healing circle? with her i got a grenade, this cool ice trail abilities that gives a speed boost and laces the ground with freeze, a sick frozen attack that underhand chucks freeze at enemies stopping them in place , and a high damage ultimate blizzard to take down huge groups. Super fun, super engaging, and thats just one character. ve unlocked 3 for free in the first week. destiny i dont think i ever got to change. same with warframe. Not to mention - GRAPPLING HOOK BABY. Very fun universal mechanic.
even furthermore, whats witht he lack of nuance in regards to the store? there are ultimate characters, and they cost $50 yes (theres 3 of them) but the remaining 12 characters are literally $6 a piece. and ALL of them are unlockable for free with gameplay. I think the player count really shows the truth here. theyve got a good game with good bones and it will only get better as time goes on. meanwhile warframe and destiny are DINOSAURS. very good games but very old. same reason people will play concord and that marvel hero shooter when they come out. overwatch is 9 years old bruv.

As someone who has loved Apex Legends ever since season 0 it really is disheartening to see EA throwing away years worth of goodwill. I only hope that this gets reverted and somehow the game will survive through all this.
If you are calling the way EA has been torturously monetizing Apex legends for the past 4-5 years as a Goodwill then i think you are either too rich to feel the brunt of the monetization or you haven't played the game at all.

This was the least surprising thing Xbox could do imo. A price increase was always in the cards and only putting new games Day 1 on Ultimate was something I personally found a sensible idea months ago to not make Xbox bleed cash with every new release. Game development is expensive and, because Game Pass massively cuts into sales, they wouldn't for all eternity subsidize it.
I wish the 'games' that they spent so much money on developing were any good. They have absolutely nothing to show for after all these years. Only price increases for Gamepass.

The problem with Gamepass is that it isn't Netflix or Apple Music. Those are entrenched services which have long shaped how we consume music and film/tv.
Gamepass is still relatively new, and given it's attached to the worst selling console, they don't have a level of command over their customers that Disney does when they increase their prices.

That's because it was already out on the Switch a few months ago. This upcoming release is for all the other platform, so the statement is correct, this release will be for all non-Switch systems.
We can criticize Nintendo for backwards compatibility and purposefully removing large chunks of their game library but despite all that i still believe they are still the best out of the big 3.

Im halfway through Dawntrail but Im really liking it so far. It just struggles because besides the Scions its needs to introduce everything else as we are in a new continent with new characters and concepts. Its like the ARR of the new story saga. It has a big job with how much it needs to introduce.

The "No Day-1 games" price tier exists as a price anchor to push people towards the pricier tier with Day-1 games.
The Capcom failure with Exoprimal was because it was not a Dino Crisis Remake.
Exoprimal was your 'Dino Crisis Remake'. A protag (at least one of them) who was practically Regina. A gameplay loop that was actually pretty fun of shooting dinosaurs. Gameplay not too far removed from the subsequent Dino Crisis entries (that really didn't sell very well).
If Exoprimal was another one of Capcom 'feelers' in order to gauge the market reception in order to determine whether or not an investment into an actual Dino Crisis Remake is worth it, best to hope Capcom didn't see Exoprimal as a "failure". That said, one shouldn't rule out the possibility of a proper Dino Crisis remake, but don't expect it to be a high priority given Capcom's more consistent cash cows.

Just canceled Game Pass yesterday after this announcement. I wanted to stick around for one or two more months to finish some games I started after the Tango Gameworks closing and Microsoft layoffs. This change was just an immediate cancellation.

There's one really good thing about capcom... they've NEVER given up on throwing out Weird Shit ever so often even if it doesn't work out... and then they tend to reap what worked about the weird stuff they tried, and use it for making better games.
