My car's "resonator" is technically a muffler, as it is a 3-chamber design. Most aftermarket fart cans and legit "mufflers" are a straight through design with a large-ish body, suxh as Magnaflow (not XL), Borla, and Flowmaster FlowFX series and arguably call the Flowmaster laminar flow mufflers a straight through design also, as by your definition, it is a resonator, not a muffler. Dynomax Super Turbo is a muffler, but a Ultra-Flo is a resonator, by your definition. Confused yet?
This is good, I'm looking to tone down my mid muffler which is a flowmaster delta race muffler which basically sounds straight piped, I have muffler & resonator delete but before that I had a cherrybomb m80 in place of resonator which made everything too quiet so I took the m80 off which by the way is a muffler that's why it was quiet, so I just need a high quality resonator to refine the sound & tone it down just a little.
@@nblevins81 Well if it's under Warranty don't touch it, I no longer own this car which I modded so much I traded it in for a type s but previous to that the crankshaft failed on my 18 Acura TLX aspec & required a whole new engine at the cost of $8800, so thank God it was still under the 70,000 mile warranty. So my advice is to leave the car alone, unless you have plenty of cash to spend it's just not worth it, or by a car that already sounds good like an m4, or S5
Yea dude, Turbo vehicles is the best U can get, electric vehicles will get there one day. Yet I never had oral or intercourse from a female in this vehicle, according to the rules & regulations of being a Gentleman!
This...kinda helped I guess, I have my stock exhaust with the resonator taken out but I’m looking to get an aftermarket exhaust system and might have the mufflers taken out
Mufflers stop the exhaust pressure almost completely. Kills more power and sound. Resonators is a straight flow design with baffles to disrupt exhaust pressure. Baby muffler. Kills less sound and less power. Helps with sound vibrations as it travels thru the pipes. Thats why its usually in the middle.
I literally typed in ‘8th gen accord exhaust that doesn’t sound like sh*t’ 😂 I don’t plan on my mom redlining melting rods and pistons but then that would be bad🫏
Corsa is probably the epitome of resonators and mufflers. They're super refined resonators packed into a muffler casing with custom tuning for specific platforms. My car with a Corsa has a more generic resonator in the mid-pipe, and the "muffler" is a briefcase style with their RSC tech.
I got a muffler delete on my truck but kept the stock cars and resonator. The resonator is our near the tip, and the truck idles pretty quietly. Would removing the resonator make it sound deeper and a little louder when idling?
It really depends what your engine sounds like straight piped. A lot of cars have resonators to get rid of undesirable sounds so getting rid of it could make it more high pitched and raspy🤷🏽♂️
Can u explain the overboost for the RS. Obviously means that it is able to produce more psi for limited time. 1. What conditions need to be met to activate over-boost? 2. What is overboost function on Cobb ap n does it require different conditions to activate? 3, What are the main changes that Cobb ap does to RS?(shift buttons up n down happen at a much lower rpm.)
Cameron Alford Explain the resonator on the AP2 Honda s2000. The thing is just welded ON THE SIDE OF THE EXHAUST PIPE. NOT INLINE WITH IT; ON THE SIDE OF IT.
I cut out my resonator, replaced it straight pipe and left my stock muffler alone on my 08 Grand prix 3.8L V6. It sounded sick. Nice rumble without that obnoxious loud turd sounding farts.
The dummies 101version. Say the word it literally does what it says. Mufflers will muffle the sound, making it quieter. Resonators resonate sound inside of the camber changing/canceling certain sound frequencies. Corsa uses probably the most clever resonator style "mufflers" out there. They are essentially straight though design but have sophisticated baffles to tune and cancel specific sound frequencies that can eliminate drone. I run one on my car and it has nice tone and volume at WOT but sounds near stock at cruise.
@@MyGoToUserName you're talking about Active Noise Control or Noise-Cancelling. a method for reducing unwanted sound by the addition of a second sound to cancel the first. in this case sound is forced back onto itself creating a resonating effect. got it.
I replaced my rear muffler with a resonator. It sounds stock up to 2k rpm and then it gets louder then stock. So if I push it it has some sound, but for cruising it has the stock sound.
See, I see you say the resonator deletes drone, I say the mufflers do. Straight piped my v6 impala and sometimes I couldnt talk on the phone cuz it was so loud. I personally feel like drone would be less on a res delete rather than a muff delete. Like on the VW GTIs
Mid muffler, muffler, resonator. I have a 12 srt 300, I wanna get the exhaust done but I’m confused so much. I had a scatpack Charger I had a mid muffler delete and I loved it. I’m not sure which is why so when I got to the exhaust shop. I want the least drone & louder. But I don’t know which to tell Them. The terms are confusing me at this point lol
iPrefer HEMIS lemme explain it like this the muffler quiets down the sound while a resonator tones down the frequencies of the exhaust so it’s more bearable 😂 essentially keeping the resonator will keep the sound of the car there without all the unneeded rasp and frequencies of the exhaust😂
It depends on the car if it is NA or Turbo/Super charged. NA engines need the backpressure that the muffler and resonator make. On the other hand charged cars dont need any of that, they actually gain hp from straight-through exhausts.
Ok so which is the muffler and which are the resonators? Middle VRS back . Big debate about this … is the muffler in the middle or are the muffler the ones before exiting at the back🤷🏻♂️
My Question Is How Do You Tell Which Is A Muffler And Which Is A Resonator? I've Seen Mufflers That Look Like Resonators Listed On eBay. I'm Starting To Think Resonators And Mufflers Are The Same Thing.
My truck is true dual straight piped and it has a ton of crackle and its too much around 1300 to 1600 rpm. Idk how to get rid of the cracking. I thought resonator would take out the cracking and popping and still leave the exhaust loud. It read 117 decibels at the exhaust shop but on my phone it read 98 directly at the pipe. What would be my best option thats still affordable, i just paid 330 dollars for the true dual straight pipe so im a little low on funds but i need it quieted down quickly, im 100% pull overable right now. Should i do something like glasspacks or just go resonator or something more 2 in 2 out magnaflow, what should i do?

Most aftermarket fart cans and legit "mufflers" are a straight through design with a large-ish body, suxh as Magnaflow (not XL), Borla, and Flowmaster FlowFX series and arguably call the Flowmaster laminar flow mufflers a straight through design also, as by your definition, it is a resonator, not a muffler. Dynomax Super Turbo is a muffler, but a Ultra-Flo is a resonator, by your definition.
Confused yet?
Is borla good?
This is good, I'm looking to tone down my mid muffler which is a flowmaster delta race muffler which basically sounds straight piped, I have muffler & resonator delete but before that I had a cherrybomb m80 in place of resonator which made everything too quiet so I took the m80 off which by the way is a muffler that's why it was quiet, so I just need a high quality resonator to refine the sound & tone it down just a little.
Can you give me some advice for my car???
@@nblevins81 Well if it's under Warranty don't touch it, I no longer own this car which I modded so much I traded it in for a type s but previous to that the crankshaft failed on my 18 Acura TLX aspec & required a whole new engine at the cost of $8800, so thank God it was still under the 70,000 mile warranty. So my advice is to leave the car alone, unless you have plenty of cash to spend it's just not worth it, or by a car that already sounds good like an m4, or S5
Yea dude, Turbo vehicles is the best U can get, electric vehicles will get there one day. I had a white & black Mitsubishi Cordia GSR 2.0 litre 5 speed Coupe, I could do anything, 220- 240 clicks on a freeway day or night didn't matter to me. I could also neck & pash on with my dates sometimes anywhere I wanted do, you know what I mean? Yet I never had oral or intercourse from a female in this vehicle, according to the rules & regulations of being a Gentleman!
I’ll go with a Muffler delete.
I got a Mazda 3 2.5l w a muffler delete and it sounds great
This...kinda helped I guess, I have my stock exhaust with the resonator taken out but I’m looking to get an aftermarket exhaust system and might have the mufflers taken out
Mufflers just quiet down the sound resonators change the sound completely 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for this comment, I noticed this as well, I'm going with the muffler delete.
@@Thedirtylittlesecret can i have it at the end of the pipe i run a 4 cyl no catalyc converter will it be too loud?
Right... the name says it all Mufflers muffle... resonators resonate.
LungHotBox 420 if you run no cats, and a resonators in the back the car will sound mean but it will be most likely too loud.
That was amazing ,very helpful keep up the good work man 👍🏼👍🏼
Exactly the explanation I was lookin for 👍🏽
I got a muffler delete on my truck but kept the stock cars and resonator.
It's a truck, what's the point of keeping it unstock?
Really starting to like your videos! hope you’re the next big car youtuber ,thanks for the quality content👍🏻
Cameron Alford
Explain the resonator on the AP2 Honda s2000.
The thing is just welded ON THE SIDE OF THE EXHAUST PIPE.
NOT INLINE WITH IT; ON THE SIDE OF IT.
That is a Helmholtz resonator.

I cut out my resonator, replaced it straight pipe and left my stock muffler alone on my 08 Grand prix 3.8L V6. It sounded sick. Nice rumble without that obnoxious loud turd sounding farts.
Does the resonator quite the turbo whistler at all?
im more confused now than ever
The dummies 101version. Say the word it literally does what it says. Mufflers will muffle the sound, making it quieter.
Resonators resonate sound inside of the camber changing/canceling certain sound frequencies.
Corsa uses probably the most clever resonator style "mufflers" out there. They are essentially straight though design but have sophisticated baffles to tune and cancel specific sound frequencies that can eliminate drone. I run one on my car and it has nice tone and volume at WOT but sounds near stock at cruise.
@@MyGoToUserName you're talking about Active Noise Control or Noise-Cancelling. a method for reducing unwanted sound by the addition of a second sound to cancel the first. in this case sound is forced back onto itself creating a resonating effect. got it.
😆
just straight pipe the car
I replaced my rear muffler with a resonator. It sounds stock up to 2k rpm and then it gets louder then stock. So if I push it it has some sound, but for cruising it has the stock sound.
How's the drone
Uploads all the time your gonna grow so fast
The first 2 seconds of the video; I was completely thrown off. What an accent bro. 😂
Maybe add video clips of the differences
I legit thought that was your actual voice at the start 😂
But I don’t know which to tell
Them.
CleanMotorSport RacingAssociation Lol Thank you for that. I’m on board. Muffler delete will make it louder lol
iPrefer HEMIS haha yeah I honestly want to do it for my car 😂
CleanMotorSport RacingAssociation WHY NOT!
iPrefer HEMIS haha funds man
Questions do you loss any torq or horsepower whit resonator delete?
I believe you can actually gain horsepower.
It depends on the car if it is NA or Turbo/Super charged.
NA engines need the backpressure that the muffler and resonator make. On the other hand charged cars dont need any of that, they actually gain hp from straight-through exhausts.
@@954FirebladeRR back pressure is a myth. Scavenging and velocity is needed
I wanna see what kind of sounds both make in tandem.
No videos on TH-cam about that.
I’m bout to do do muffler delete on my Subie. Just a Cobb aftermarket cat.
Single exit into a blast pipe. Gonna be loud.
Firs time here and had me dying in the beginning 🤣🤣
Ok so which is the muffler and which are the resonators? Middle VRS back . Big debate about this … is the muffler in the middle or are the muffler the ones before exiting at the back🤷🏻♂️
Muffler is big n square most times, resonators are mostly round n long..lol
Absorbing mufflers (resonator) are better than straight pipes for power
Lol I really thought,
that intro got me
Hey thanks man. Appreciate the help
I have a resonator delete right now only mod I bought the car with. Thinking I will get a resonated cat back with test pipes 👍
My Question Is How Do You Tell Which Is A Muffler And Which Is A Resonator? I've Seen Mufflers That Look Like Resonators Listed On eBay. I'm Starting To Think Resonators And Mufflers Are The Same Thing.
I got an 350z with a full straight pipe + test pipes with an catback exhaust
If you have a 5th gen camaro ss you won’t regret muffler & resonator delete 😊
Now could you add both of these to the exhaust system?
I’d did muffler delete on my Kia, but it’s not loud enough, I want to take off the resonator too.
I have a 2017 Honda Civic lx model and I got a muffler delete. It’s sounds really good but I would like it louder. If I get a resonator delete would it be any louder or not make a difference ?
It would be louder but you would have drone noise in the car from the resonater deleted. My gf car is a 2022 Toyota corolla se and she wanted bother muffler and res. Deleted. Let me say it is loud but kinda wish we just went with the muffler delete due too it being too obnoxious loud and cuz the warranty for her car. I mean we asked when we baught it if it would void the warranty for deleting the muffler and the dealer said it wouldn't. So hope we're good on both lol
@@ENDGAME191 cool thanks for all the info! I will definitely take all that into consideration lll
Lol
Do you have any insight on two mufflers versus one? I have an X5 with the N55 engine and considering one or two Valvetronic mufflers
I got a 2012 Jetta 2.0 TDI and it's my daily driver! It's running a Stage 1+ ECU TCU Remap and a BMC stock air filter replacement. Would you recommend I get a resonator delete, muffler delete, both, or just don't even bother because it's a TDI ?
Did a muffler and resonator delete on my 2014 Tiguan 2.0 tsi. Sounds awesome
2015 silverado suggestions??
I always wonder about how a straight through absorbtion resonator can remove drone at low rpm if they also add bass to the overall tone?
Companies pay to fiigure it out, that's how they know..lol
@@P71ScrewHead figure what out?
@@Dnasty1 How to remove drone, they do many tests to see what works 💪, then they mass produce n sell it.. They also study the competition's products, that's how they know if they have a good product..
@@P71ScrewHead I understand how R&D works lol. That really has nothing to do with my question though.
@@Dnasty1 I would argue both your questions were answered..lol It's a mystery, but hey, if it works, it works.. ;)
I have resonators on my Camaro with longtube headers and flowmaster HP2 I get drone at 2k rpm cruising on the freeway
If you could give me your opinion on my 04 Grand Cherokee V6 4.0 inline straight limited someone cut out my resonator would straight piping it and leaving the muffler be ok? Will it be quite or loud or make any difference at all if you have any suggestions it be appreciated thanks.
What would you all recommend for a 2016 Silverado v6 to get a little rumble without sounding like a v6 chopping sound?
I recently deleted my muffler & resinator on my 16 z71 v8 5.3 adding straight pipes & shes sounds beautiful!!not sure if I do already but I can send u vid if you’d like!
@@showcasehardwoodfloors1473 so you don't have any drone? I have a 2019 Chevy 1500 Z71 It has the V8 5.3L I did a muffler delete with a 3-in straight pipe but I added in a super 40 mini race muffler and I have really bad drone was wondering if I removed that race muffler if it would go away or not just don't want to cut everything out reweld everything and then have the same problem lol I also noticed that I'm pretty sure I'm getting the drone when the truck is switching from V8 to V4 mode which obviously has its own other issues but I need to get a tune or something to disable that.
Quick question brother I'm about to install some resonators on my car just want to know is there a difference on what side yo installed them? but I'm talking about the inside part !
If you had a valves muffler but res delete, would it still drone with the muffler closed?
So I have a stock 2011 Lexus GS-350. I want that deeper tone, but no crackling etc.
I heard a Flowmaster FX that sounded nice. He added tips. Do tips help the sound or just for looks?
And I have a dual exhaust. You’re saying to only buy one resonator to replace one of the mufflers or am I misunderstanding?
Mufflers muffle...resonators resonate
J.acencc Underrated comment 👏🏽
Right...It's just rocket science
One muffles and one resonates. It’s kinda in their names.
