    It makes me so sad that the cost is so prohibitive. I'm a mature student and there's no way I'd be able to support myself studying full-time while also volunteering and THEN have to work fulltime for free for a year.

      Its way better in the UK , 3 or 4 years undergrad and thats it. No internship and no exam :) you do have placements but they are done as part of your undergrad or postgrad degree and included in the cost and organized by the university

I'm trying not to be discouraged but it seems like this is designed for younger people who can stay with their parents while going through school and internship... I'm thinking how can I possibly do all of that, not work for so many years (husband doesn't make a lot, we need two incomes)? I want to do this but I'm not sure if I can. :(
      I never was sure about what I wanted as a career, and I've just been doing meaningless jobs throughout the years (food service, retail, warehouse)... I want something more. I wish I had known sooner.

    • @juliamau263
      @juliamau263 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is that there is no standard for becoming a certified Nutritionist. The issue with that is anyone could publish a certification course online, where they could teach you pseudoscience or really anything. There are some super legit Nutritionists out there, but sadly there are typically more who don't have a solid background in Nutrition

  • @sagarikap
    @sagarikap 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very few nutrition students are selected for dietetics major . What the other students do who had a dream to be a dietitian but didn't get dietetic major ? Only nutrition major has no such future except they go for PhD and go for teaching or research job. That's a long way to go.

      I've been doing a lot of research on this since I have my undergrad in Psych. From what I've found it definitely depends on the program. @@Emita1993 hello Emma, I’m currently finishing my MS and dietetic internship. I’m not sure if you are still thinking about dietetics, but getting a masters in nutrition without having your DPD certification will not allow you to get an internship nor to become a dietitian. To get a DPD certification you will need to finish certain undergraduate courses in science and nutrition, most of these are not online. Try checking with the program you are interested in, I’m sure they’ll be able to point you to the right direction.

    This might be silly but I really need some advice😭
    First of all, I LOVED the video and will definitely be watching all your other videos.
    Second, I am a senior in high school considering majoring in Nutrition and Dietitics in university next year. I love knowing more about what goes on in the body and things related to nutrition of course. There is something, though, that I do not like about it that I hope you can give me the "right" answer to. It's that I do not like telling people what to eat! I'd rather explain to them that for example, their current style of eating is not good for them and what they truly need is this and that. And they choose for themselves. In addition, where I live, and probably in a lot of other places, the majority of people go to dieticians for the purpose of getting thinner and looking "more beautiful" in the eyes of people that they know. They do not think to do this for their own good and for the purpose of becoming a healthier person and adopting a healthier lifestyle which is nerve-racking to me. Not to mention, (please don't take this the wrong way) I used to not like the idea of dietitians in first place because I thought that people could become healthier and lose weight on their own like I did(I lost 10 kg in a year by eating better and exercising at home), but I get that not everyone is capable of doing that and even though I lost weight I mightve done it the wrong way because I'm no expert obviously.
    I hope this didn't sound stupid but I'm really trying to make up my mind. I absolutely appreciate all dietitians💕

    • @leaabboud1855

      I totally understand. It’s the same for me. I’ve been going to dietitian since the 4th grade. I am now in 11th grade. And i lost 5 pounds in 3 months. Just by counting calories ( calories in and calories out) and by doing sports. Some people might say it’s not good to count calories but it’s the only thing that worked for me. I guess you could start the session (if you choose to become an RD is telling them to do it for themselves and that they are already beautiful. Maybe ask them what they are eating and tell them how they could improve in some way. But some people do like being told what to eat it just makes it easier for them. Where i live dietitian usally have a meal service so they send u meals based on your calories and you wouldn’t believe how many people actually buy it. I hope this helped sorry if it’s too long

      Hello. I’ve been a dietitian for about 6 years. I wouldn’t focus so much on the weight loss aspect of it. There are so many different areas in dietetics that you could specialize in that weight loss may be only a very small portion of what you do. I work in the clinical setting (hospital). I specialize in diabetes and kidney disease. A majority of what I do is teaching people about modifying their diet for their particular health condition. Many of the dietitians at my hospital also specialize in nutrition support (tube feedings and IV nutrition) which involves almost no weight loss counseling. Weight management is only one aspect in a huge world of dietetics. I’d try to look at the whole picture.
