One thing I've learned to watch for that helps weed out the garbage on Netflix is that little red N icon on the movies thumbnail when going through there selection. If the movie you are considering has that red N, it means it is a Netflix original. Its best to stay away from those. They are almost always crap and to be honest, if you've seen one you seen them all. They basically take the same movie and make it over and over again with different actors and settings. Netflix originals look good, but they aren't. Stick with the real movies and avoid the red N.

I watched Rush twice and deep dove into the history of it. The camera footage was breathtaking!!! Rush is 2013, BTW. I thought you were listing Rush 1991. Powerful flick with Jason Patric, Jennifer Jason Leigh. Very heavy, but great. Have u seen it?
1991's Rush with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric is underrated and EXCELLENT! It touched close to home, as I had friends that ran in similar circles and experienced a small taste of such lifestyles through them. Glad I never went down that road myself.
Finally watched Last Shift last night based on your recommendation with the Mrs. We were on some edibles and had a great time! Excellent Halloween pick!

I definitely love Labyrinth. One of my favorite movies as a kid. I think it was one of the first movies I rented at Blockbuster when I bought my video cassette player. It definitely holds the test of time.
Anyone pick up on the father with a troubled daughter relationship theme in several of Clint’s movies? It makes me wonder if he is trying to communicate with one of his daughters through his films. Million dollar baby made my heart swell and break at the same time. Loved it
Going to order Scentbird for my teenagers as a Christmas present. What a great concept! Also...how am I going to have enough time to watch all these gr8 movies? Lol
I'm both grateful and jealous-- you have an excellent platform here to enlighten us about film, and you're good at it, and though (like anyone) I can't agree about everything you say, I agree with quite a bit. That being said... I've been saying what you said about Blade Runner for decades. DECADES dude. You said it better. More concise and respectful, but mostly more efficiently. The very points you made about the age of the film and how much has been borrowed, and how little of anything like it (read: nothing) came before... is what I tried to explain years before it finally had momentum as not just an underground hit, but recognized as a great resource and piece of art imitated endlessly to this day. Thank you. I'm jealous you get to say it and now take credit for the concepts (yeah I know it's been said before but yours was lean and mean), and I'm kicking myself for not getting a channel rolling myself long ago... but grateful you do film experience justice so often.
Jaws has one of my favorite camera tricks and is possibly the first time I ever saw it. You’re right: Million Dollar Baby was even better than I thought. Really great movie. “Training Day” is one of my favorite movies of all time. Denzel was beyond perfect; he was 100% powerful and amazing every single second of that movie; He made every line his own.

Couple of things I have to say: I watched What's Eating Gilbert Grape when I was a kid and it DEPRESSED the hell out of me and I vowed to never watch it again. Leon the Professional has the best character development I've ever seen in a movie. I felt DEEPLY for Leon and Portman.

I felt the same way about TWBB at first because I didn't know what to expect. The movie could have been about anything, it was poorly marketed. Leaving the theater we were like "what was that"? In hindsight after rewatching, it's a superb film. DDL at his phenomenal best and Danno probably gives is best performance ever. Either this or Prisoners. Great pick by DVD! Solid #5
Definitely this Best ReWatch Movies List must be one of your Repeat Review Formats. I bought and watched nine of them repeatedly. for years and years, too... and probably would have watched more of them more... except I can't stop myself from rewatching The Game over and over again... and pretty much demand that any new person I meet must watch and become hooked on it, too. Just sooooo clever... and gives no clue as to what's really happening... and I guess that's sooooo intriguing to me because I'm rarely surprised by movies. I tend to predict all the surprises with the first 20 minutes. This one just picked up where all my wealthy bored friends were back in the day and play a little trick on them and just went nonstop past the unexpected and never stopped surprising until the very end. So well done. Loved it! Now, gotta watch it again.
Have been going back to check out things I've missed over the years and just watched a few of your pics recently. Love all of them but the stand out here to me I need to watch is Rush. Looks really good

Darren, what a great list and a great idea. I've seen so many of these movies - because of you. Thank you for that. You are an excellent critic and I love your selections. This was a great list. I recently saw Training Day myself and it was so hard to watch the ending. Denzel gave the performance of a lifetime.

I really like the concept, there are definitely quite a few movies in here that I re-watch and a few that I will give a shot. Perhaps keep it to 12 movies instead of 20.
I could not agree more. Jaws is a nearly perfect movie. The a acting, the dialogue, the cinematography, and directing is beyond excellent. BTW this is one of the few times where the movie is superior to the book. If you have not seen it I cannot recommend it enough. Great video Darren.
I LOVE "The Labyrinth""! 🥰 Still re-watch this one even tho I'm 48 by now... And "JAWS" also a favorite. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" REALLY made me Notice Johnny Depp & his Girl (in movie) cuz the talent they got is just Crazy!!! ❤🔥 & DiCaprio also. Amazing Performances indeed! Always Good Movie & you name Director! Have a Nice One! ✌
I can vouch for you on that Versace Eros, been using it for awhile now and I love it. I also love Dolce&Gabbana's THE ONE. Give that a shot if you can. EDIT: Well damn. I paused the video when I typed that and after starting I see they recommended THE ONE like I just said lol. Now I'm interested in that Skylar Salt Air...
Just found your channel and really like it. I especially like your insights. Keep up the format and the length is perfect. Now onto watching Desperado.....
Great calls !!! Great movies for people that haven't seen them yet, especially for the 15 to 20 somethings on up that possess an appreciation for nostalgia throw period pieces and films within there own period.
Very good video and not too long at all since each movie you listed is certainly worthy of our time. Please do this type of review list again and maybe even a specific 90’s list of hard to remember that may be on Netflix
These are some of the best movies ever made, and Hollywood now couldnt come close to making anything even close to how great these movies are, and hold up for decades.
IN CliffHanger Jhon Lithcow (spell error maybe) has always been a powerful acting Badguy on All of his performances as The bad guy, very talented individual considering 3rd Rock from the Sun.
John made another BAD guy performance in a movie with Denzel Washington,he played a psycho...look it up,I'm too lazy......John's amazing.two weeks ago he played Rudy Giuliani in a skit on Colbert's show.. epic.👋
First time viewer of your videos. i must commend you - throughly enjoyed your narration and descriptions of why i should like these movies. Will be a subscriber...
Rush, Mars Attacks!, & The Game are totally underrated. And yes, Blade Runner: The Final Cut is one of the best scifi movies of all time. I'm so glad RS was able to get his full vision out (the stupid narration in the original is moronic). Love, Love LOVE Leon The Professional (watched it again last week on NF)
You convinced me. I gotta rewatch Jaws and as a huge fan of Deaperado (watched it for the 5th time last week) I must watch Once Upon A Time in Mexico. Thanks for the sold list VanDamme.
ok I watched this video 3 times already. First for movie titles, second for nostalgia , and third for educational purposes. I had no idea that Robert Rodriguez directed Spy Kids! I love his work but im more familiar with his abhorrent movies: Dusk till Dawn (omg scared the shit out of me when i was 8 and i loved it!), Sin City, Desporado and Once upon of time in Mexico 22:52 actually....and then Spy Kids? Really !? Thats random. Yes please Mr.Van Dam more of this talk thru content!
Jaws! The first time I saw it was right when it came out, in Hollywood with my girlfriend. The underwater boat scene when the head pops up in the porthole, and the whole audience came out of their seats!! But over a year later... Well, I was in Texas... long story. Anyway, I saw it again with a friend of mine. That same scene didn't cause anywhere near the reaction from the audience. Being a few miles from the beach must have had a lot to do with the fear of sharks.
I was in college when I first saw Apocalypse Now in the theaters. I went there by myself and watching that along with having to read Nietzsche in school, I probably became the most depressed man in the universe for a while. I had never seen anything like it. A couple years later I joined the Marines. DOH!

My Netflix MyList just got a little longer LOL. Great video as always!
Just watched LEON again. Delicious as allows.
Labyrinth is easily one of my favorite movies of all-time. I am 38 and still sing along to every song. "What kind of magic spell to use?"
Darren, what a great list and a great idea. I've seen so many of these movies - because of you. Thank you for that. You are an excellent critic and I love your selections. This was a great list. I recently saw Training Day myself and it was so hard to watch the ending. Denzel gave the performance of a lifetime.
YOU'RE THE BEST DVD , i'd like more of the breakdown you've given JAWS in fact I might never get off your channel if you specialised in doing non stop this ( btw dude, i'm 75 currently old enuf to be your great great/grandfather, and ive seen them come & go almost rom Hedda Hopper days, & thank you dude darren hyperbole you're thye best!
Leon- The Professional was just sooo amazing. I have probably watched it a dozen times.
Your Team America praise was enough for me. Subscribed.
love that Jaws scene - and love that they stop singing in order of experience: Quint/Hooper/Brody
300,000 subscribers right around the corner!
Thanks, brother!
I watch 99% of the films you suggest.
@Flick Connection This was an outstanding movie review / recap / analysis. Keep 'em coming!
Excellent video format and the list is fantastic!
Real enjoyed all the background info into some fab movies. Thank you!
This is great. I've gone back to rewatch 2 movies so far, 3 more coming that I would have skipped. Thanx.
The Format is great. Loved the Extras...
Very good video and not too long at all since each movie you listed is certainly worthy of our time. Please do this type of review list again and maybe even a specific 90’s list of hard to remember that may be on Netflix
Love this format.
@38:08 the mayor's jacket has anchors ⚓. He's immovable. The beach will not close.
Great video; You covered my two favorite movies of all time - Once upon a time in America and The Game.
I did not know Chef existed. Thank you for that, it looks awesome!
Love the format. Great list of movies. Personally I am going to watch Blade Runner.
John made another BAD guy performance in a movie with Denzel Washington,he played a psycho...look it up,I'm too lazy......John's amazing.two weeks ago he played Rudy Giuliani in a skit on Colbert's show.. epic.👋
@@Maya_Pinion Nice. And it's RicoChet. First time i saw Denzel, Thriilin' edge of your seat movie.
@@abrahamfigz6585 yup,that's it!!! THANKU.✌️
Liked the format for sure. Nice to see your enthusiasm for these well known films.
Wasn't "Leon: The Professional" originally just called "The Professional?" Why the change?
The original title was Leon, the US title was The Professional, now it's an amalgam of both
Mandela effect lol
How about safe house with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, a great movie with incredible action and espionage
My kids watched Spy Kids 100s of times. It was on repeat in our home ; they knew all the dialogue by heart and would reenact the scenes.
Loved this, never too long, always learning something new. Just great.
darren van dam strikes again...you're the best, man!
Omgoooood.teachers pet..good on u...👍
Love your lists and recommendations. You are great! Did you study film in school.
Whenever DiCaprio cries he sounds like his character in Gilbert Grape.
You convinced me. I gotta rewatch Jaws and as a huge fan of Deaperado (watched it for the 5th time last week) I must watch Once Upon A Time in Mexico. Thanks for the sold list VanDamme.
This is an interesting format and you should continue
posting more of this ont the future.
I appreciate your netflix suggestions…thanks.
ok I watched this video 3 times already.
The printer machine reminds me of Bullitts fax machine scene & Shaws monologue about fear & hatred 4 sharks is based on a real survivor story
Your picks are mostly spot on, one thing is for sure, you have great taste in movies
I saw Jaws in the theater when it came out. It was terrifying.
I watched Million $ Baby in a theater when it came out. SO sad. Great flick. I loved it at the time.
I was in college when I first saw Apocalypse Now in the theaters. I went there by myself and watching that along with having to read Nietzsche in school, I probably became the most depressed man in the universe for a while. I had never seen anything like it. A couple years later I joined the Marines. DOH!
Cliffhanger best ever
I really liked this type video 👍. Your perspective and “gushing “ made the movies more appealing 🤨 even the ones I have seen before 🤔
Another great video by the best movie critic on TH-cam. You're a modern day Siskel and Ebert!
