For me, the 16-35 lens is a better option. Firstly, when zoomed, there's no barrel distortion since it has internal zoom. Secondly, I mostly shoot real estate videos or take 16mm property photos, for which I always set the aperture to f5 or f8. This setup works best for me. Additionally, if I really need depth of field, I have a 24mm 1.4 prime lens that I use when necessary. Furthermore, with the RS3 gimbal, power zoom is quite convenient. I've set the dial to the zoom function, so I don't need any motor or lens rotation to zoom in.
The review I've been waiting for!
Thanks for watching
Tamron 20 to 40mm..still rocking.😊
Great versatile lens that one
Me too. Great lens.
Get a zeiss prime. Tamron has 0 pop
@@SpaceyZee I have 11 Zeiss primes. Tamron zooms have compromises but hold their own. Almost indistinguishable for black and white.
Criminally underrated lens.
Look I get it, the 2.8 is nice and I'd rather have it. BUT.... a 9mm zoom???? 9mm! This lens only makes sense if you are 100% living in that range. The DOF for a wide angle range like this, unless you're super CU and have objects in foreground and background (but then you should be using a prime anyway) is almost imperceptible. Plus the PZ has a really nice contrasty look to it. And while I totally agree about not using the PZ, the fact that you can go past the 35mm and straight into clear image zoom (without having to jump into the menu), makes the 16-35 essentially an instant 16-50. IMO that's huge in run and gun scenarios where capturing the shot/moment is far more important than the DOF. Great video as per usual! Keep em coming!!
I have the 16-35pz but when they announced this lens I'm starting to take pics of the pz to get ready to sell. Wish the 16-25 had a longer reach maybe even 28 or 30 but glad they made it affordable and compact
Are these sites you’re referencing the prices from Australian… if so where do you get your gear from?
Cheers
I more and more think 20mm f1.8 is the sweet spot especially with A7M4 switching back and forth between the fullframe and aps-c mode
I find the 20mm isn’t wide enough when ever I want to do 60 fps 4k on that camera. Also just isn’t wide enough sometimes even without the crop. Love the lens on my A7M4 otherwise. Lightweight too.
From the perspective of image quality at infinity, which one would be better among the 16-35 PZ, 16-25G, and the first generation 1635GM?
I've been waiting for this! I'm struggling to decide between the 16-35mm f4 pz and the 16-25 f2.8. Most of the time i shoot wide for landspaces for our travel videos. I've been following you over a year now and your channel really helps me to decide what gear should i pick. :)
Which you thinking? In the same boat right now haha
@@PhilipBlank I've chosen the 16-35mm f4 pz because of the extra reach at the 35mm focal length, and I usually shoot during daylight. If I need to shoot in low light, I have my Viltrox 16mm to cover those situations. 😁
Of course on the PZ, the zoom can also be set up to extend into clear image zoom, so you get a 16-50 effectively. On the PZ you can also zoom remotely in the app.
I bought the 2.8.
Yes. Forgot to mention that. A little annoying actually because when I was showing the zoom it kept zooming past the 35mm into clear image zoom 😂
Thanks for this! Can you pls compare it to the 16-35gm as well?
I bought the 16-35mm pz to use on my zv e1 when either handheld or on a gimbal and gotta say that I thought I wouldn’t use it very much. How wrong was I. I’m surprised how much I use this lens. Sure, I wish it was faster but it’s so light and with internal zoom it’s a great little lens!! Great piece as always
Yeah same. The 16-35mm pretty much goes everywhere with my ZV-E1
Loved the 67mm filter thread lens list at 8:33!
I went with the 16-35 F4 PZ. primarily i rarely find F2.8 hardly appropriate for my run-and-gun filming... also I wanted the versatility to be my primary lens on my gimbal. I have the 24-105, it is very good and versatile. i don't ever need to take it off. The lenses i'm look between is 70-200 GM vs the 100-400 GM telephoto zooms.
Is the zoom ring opposite direction from gmaster lens?
THANK YOU for this! I am currently deciding on dropping my PZF4 and ordering the 2.8 to get some more depth and separation my videos. I shoot between 16-24mm more often than not so this is perfect for me.
After watching your video, Looks like I'll just keep my F4 PZ :) I am always well lit on set.
Yeah that is my decision too. It would be nice to have the f2.8 though for some run and gun situations
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I just picked up the Rokinon 35-150 f2-2.8 and it’s a giant brick but takes nice footage 😁
Thank you for this head to head video comparison. Based on my direct experience with the 16-35/4 PZ G I think the new 16-25/2.8 G is my choice even though I haven’t used it. My son made off with 16-35/2.8 GM V1 so I tried the PZ as a replacement since a friend was selling his Sony gear. I’m a stills shooter so the PZ kind of got in my way and I preferred the f/2.8. Ended up saving for the new GM II 16-35/2.8 but I’m now using compact C A7RC so I think the smaller size maybe a better fit. We will see. Take care.
I like that Sony is dropping this lens but since I have the 16-35 PZ f4 and the 20mm 1.8 , my next lens has to be longer
I’m hoping for a refresh on the 24-105mm g f4. I want to like the current version but I don’t like how stiff the zoom ring is
I have the 16-35 and I’m holding onto it because of power zoom, internal zoom, more focal range, and the fact that I’m not sure that I need f2.8 on a wide angle where I’m usually trying to get most things in focus in the frame and especially on an FX3 with superior low light.
Yeah it’s a tough choice. The biggest thing would be the loss of money with selling and switching over.
Great review. 👍
Can you do overview
How 16-35pz works with
Ronin gimbal? If PZ can be controlled by ronin rs4 button for zoom in zoom out?
I keep my 16-35 pz cause with my gimbal i control directly with the wheel of the front on my gimbal.
So while shooting u can do trans-trav or anything with changing focal lenght.
Moreover the 35 five focal lenght is ""macro"" on this lens.
Very useful
I ve got many primes..so...
I just purchased the 16-35 gm ii along with the 16 viltox 35 gm1.4 ans 20mm 1.8 to try and figure out whether I should cut the cost and get the primes or pony up the money and take the 16-35. Plot twist this lens comes out now im thinking this lens and the 35 gm 1.4
When shooting video for tv shows or documentary like me, f4 is ok.
It s more like run n gun style.
I ve got 16-35pz, 20-70f4 and 35-150 for run n gun.
i ve got other 15 lens that i use for commercial film.
I like you but trust me with my fx3 and fx6 i really use the power zoom!
See ya and thanx for what you do, good comparaison!!
I might actually pick up this lens to use as a travel lens! It has almost zero place in my professional kit, but would be awesome to take in place of my 16mm prime on trips. I rarely ever need something wider than 24 for my professional uses, so the 16-35 GM is just way too expensive to justify, especially when I've already got a 16 prime as my ultra wide for those special projects. Just taking this and the a7iv + B1M on vacation seems like a sweet setup for documenting family and memories!
I think in a vlogging situation, the 16-35 would bebetter because of the locking iris, it has more focal lengths to zoom into and because the zoom is internal. It means that you can fly it easier on a gimbal if you want it to. However, the F2.8 is so desirable. How much of a difference is it going to be in low light?
I always fo for lower aperture lenses for the sole purpose of low light. The Cookies are the best part!
😂 cookies for the win
Really interesting Lens. How does it perform on the FX30?
I honestly didn’t put it on the Fx30 because I was using it with the A7IV and ZV-E1
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I see. Makes more sense using it on fullframe. Thx
I could see the 16-35 being a perfect gimbal lens since you can use the power zoom function on the RS4 now!
Oh yes!! Thanks for commenting this. Great point
I am still gonna keep my Sony 16-35 F4 G PZ. I love the power zoom. It's really useful! The 16-25 f2.8 not tempting for me, as I already own sony 24 f1.4 GM for low light B-roll and talking head. will save my money for Sony 70-200 f2.8 GM II instead.
Not buying. Interested in 20-70 f4 which is perfocal and has an insane close focus.
That 20-70mm is a very versatile lens with its focal length
IDK, I was really excited about this lens for travel, but I feel that Sony should have it priced the same as the 25-50. Since it's $200 higher, I'm not considering the Sigma 16-28...
I admit, sony makes great lenses. I have 20-70mm f4. It is quite wide enough for me and at 70mm i could achieve 3d effect with my ZVE1. I love 16-35mm PZ but rarely need a 2.8 lens. With ZVE1 i don’t think i require a 2.8 aperture lens. I think i better spend my money lighting at least one or two led lights 😊
How abt sigma 16-28
I owned the 16-35 f4 and sold it because of the f4. I do weddings so it wasn't the best for me and I have the 14 1.8 and i love it because I can jump in S35 on the A1 and its great but i'm looking at that 16-25 being its a 2.8 and the price, i'm close to pulling the trigger. :) wait!!! thinking about it in S35 its super close to 25mm humm, i might just keep my money in my pocket lol. Anyway, thanks for the info Jason and have a great day.
same issue for me. I have the 16-35 f4 zeiss, but looking to upgrade to this 2.8 16-25. I do already have a 20 1.8 G tho.
Why not compare to the 16-35 gm…..
I have a 20 1.8 I think I’ll stick with
Sigma dropped the price to $857 and I'm really struggling to justify the Sony for almost $350 more.
It’ll just come down to the extra buttons and aperture ring on the Sony. And I guess being a native lens with auto focus.
I cant unsee the flair now 😂
Without it being 1/2 a stop faster or having a killer feature, like powerzoom or .5x macro through the range, it is basically impossible to recommend this lens in good faith to literally anyone for any reason.
It would more be so for people who don’t already have a fast wide zoom lens
With such a small focal range is a 16mm prime better than the 16-25mm is the question...
There is a fairly big difference between 16 & 25 when framed for faces and people. I use 25 for my talking head and 16mm is just too wide and too much distortion but 16mm prime you can get much faster lenses
@JasonMorrisphotocinema Thanks for the reply. I've been doing some more thinking on this and I think with these wider lenses it may be more helpful to think of them based on their FOV change vs focal range since FOV is inversely and non-linearly proportional. Some say 9mm of zoom isn't enough but they fail to realize this. I'm thinking or getting the 16-25mm f2.8 rather than a 16-25mm f2.8 since I have a 24-70mm GMII. The 16-25mm is smaller and has less weight, less cost, and less redundancy (since 25-35mm is covered already). So the value for money is pretty good since the wider focal ranges are the reason for buying this lens in the first place. I was debating between the 16-35 f4 PZ and this 16-25mm f2.8 but the more I think about it the more the f2.8 makes sense, especially since I primarily shoot photos and I want to add it to my travel kit which will probably be the 16-25mm f2.8, 24-70mm GM II, and the 70-200 f4 Macro. I think that's a pretty good compromise between abilities and size and weight.
I can't afford either of these
Ah man I have a 5 month old and I can't wait to take him to conventions and stuff.
Making memories with family is the best thing in life ❤
Just get yourself the 20mm f1.8 prime…. 16-25???
Would come down to needing that 16mm focal length. Otherwise I agree with you. Primes are my favourite
@@JasonMorrisphotocinemaviltrox has a nice 16mm f1.8
@@kingsamvisuals yeah that’s the lens I used in this video comparing the f stop
