Hey again lovely people! Sorry it's been so long, I'm already in the process of recording another video so it won't be such a long break between videos this time (it'll be an old-style speedpaint to music). I hope you're all doing well, and good luck with any art you're working on!! (friendly reminder: contrary to what my voice might sound like, I use he/him pronouns, thank you!)
I'm not a furry but this is why I connect with furries. I made a fursona, as a kid, and only learned there was a word for it a decade later. I drew a foxlike animal at school and kept drawing her over and over. I found myself drawing her feeling my feelings. I remember when I realized she represented me and could not be separated. I felt strange about it and kept it to myself. When I learned other people had fursonas, I felt less alone. I still draw her. Her design isn't groundbreaking but I feel it's true to who I am. Thank you snake-wing for any content you put out 💜

Thank you for your lovely comment; when making this video I did wonder how useful it’d be as is less about drawing itself and more about thinking/mindset, so I’m really glad to hear you’ve found it helpful! Good luck with creating a sona and with your artistic journey in general!!
Thank you so much!! I felt like i was getting bored of my main ocs design, I had redesigned tf out of her and this kinda got me to see that if i want my main oc/sona to represent me, she should be based on me more than just the things i like! I brought back her original design and i feel so happy now, it just feels more like me
Omg I didn’t know you also have youtube!!! I directly recognized your style from Instagram and I thought. NO WAY THAT IS LIKE A DREAM!!! Great video btw!
Your design process is so relatable. When designing my sona i knew I needed to be a bird but I also needed to be a dog so i mixed the two as best I could but i still need to make alt forms because I can't settle on one design.
I created my fursona when I was really young, about 8 years old. She was actually the first character I ever made. Over the years I really connected with her, but the one problem is her design. She’s really simple, just beige with a white ear and a white paw and blue heart shaped ear tufts. I don’t really know how to describe it… it’s not like I dislike the design really but it’s a bit too basic for me. I tried to change it a bit before, but then I didn’t feel connected to her anymore, so I changed her back. I don’t really know what to do now..
Well, there’s nothing wrong with simple designs ofc, but if you wanted to add some more complexity without changing the design too much maybe try adding more accessories if you haven’t already (rather than adding actual markings, like if you wear any jewellery etc yourself maybe try adding that to her design) that way the original design essentially isn’t changed but is slightly more (for want of a better word) “unique” and she can always been drawn without the accessories
I love creating new characters. I'm not a furry but I know the fandom since two years now and I gained even more confidence with approaching to it and saying I really like it (even taking infos about you guys) but not feeling part of the community. My favorite species is the protogen and I have a cool idea I think I will draw soon (even if I kinda suck at it 😂). I started a project (just for fun, for myself to put all my mental movies I have when I listen to music) in which I created a story and I have a lot, or better, too many characters. Most of them are human, but four of them are anthropomorphic. Curiously, the first 3 were created before I had any clue about the fandom, the fact they had an animal-like form made them more epic for some reasons. And man. I try to make them simple in appearance but with cool and complex powers, but for the external characters of the project... I just can't help it. I'm a big pokefan so I'm gonna draw the Fusion of my childhood mascot pokemon, Ampharos, and my recent favorite one, shiny haxorus. I always wanted that sheep to look cooler and tougher and that's gonna be a perfect option, also to give justice to that "megaevolution" it has. Also a character grew up with me to be my persona, that one who represents me. A better, slightly more muscular, more skilled in dance moves, cool clothed version of me. He's got a black cap covering half face and two "angry-like" white pieces of cloth on it. I called him Kappside. I'm gonna make a drawing about the pokefusion, the character I just described and the protogen. I gotta do it before it goes away from my mind
Watched this while making a fursona. Very good advice, im honnestly keeping most of that in mind now. Alot of pitfalls from that video i fell into. Ive got about 11 fursona i moved from lmao.
My newest fursona represents a few things i love plus shes sort of a more ideal me, shes part dwarf cat (love of tiny things) mostly scottish fold (favorite animal for 3 years now) she has a very small pair of wings (wish to fly) glowing eyes (wish for magic) and is very sweet clever selfless and has magical abilities. Im very exited to draw her. I took some of the advice so i think this will be the first fursona i really connect with! Thank you so much for this!
Thanks for the advice. I’ve been struggling to keep a consistent fursona design for YEARS of my life(maybe 4+ years idk) since I always felt unhappy with how the designs looked. Say for instance I hyperfixated on weirdcore and dreamcore so I made an pink angel-dog named Melody with an extra eye on their head and on their wings, and had them only for a few weeks. They were fun to draw, but eventually I grew disconnected to them and scrapped them entirely, much like every other fursona I’ve had. Heck, I once even made the choice to make two separate fursonas because I had so many ideas. One was an emo half demon-wolf and the other was a cow who looked like she came from Clueless. I ended up forgetting about the cow since I grew more connected to the wolf, and even then I grew unhappy with the wolf’s whole vibe and scrapped them. So yeah, I really was struggling lmao. This video did give me some confidence in finding a fursona that will hopefully stick since I’ve pretty much accepted that I’m a fursonaless furry. I already know what stuff I like a lot so maybe it will be a little easy. The design process will be hard of course but I’m sure I’ll be really happy once I’m done.
Omg thank you for telling me not to necessarily use my fave colors i love brown and beige and but that is the original colors of many moths so i chose purple / pink / blue pastel scheme and i love it!!!!!
Aaaa i love your artstyle and ofc Vee, very pretty design I made my fursona pretty much based on my favorite game about werewolves I gave her a lot of traits from the werewolves like pointy ears, long tongue and black eyes I've had her for a little over a year now and probably will continue to use her as my fursona ❤
Thank you so much for this...can't find the right species or color scheme or anything...goat, griffin, wolf, cat, mouse, opossum, dutchie- Switched species so many times I feel like it should be a changeling at this point!
I watched this while making my fursona, my old one was not appealing to me as I had gone through a lot and didn’t connect with her any longer. I used to be a spunky, rock and roll caracal-crocodile hybrid. Now I’m a well-humoured shaggy cat with a grunge style
Thank you! I love my girl Nova.. but she doesn't feel the way I want her to. I have a whole backstory for her, and my step sister made her fursona her sister too (because we are very close), but I just don't wanna change her. I want to love her the way you love your sona, but it doesn't seem to be like that sometimes. Its hard to explain, but do you think you have any tips? Thank you!
Well, even if you don't want to change her completely, may try a minor redesign, or even just adding some new accessories/and alt. hair style or something little like that, adding or altering something can help you feel more connected (as it renews the novelty of the design a bit). Or maybe you and your step sister could try re-working the backstory a bit, depending on how long ago you made her, perhaps she doesn't totally fit who your are anymore, so changing a few things, even a little bit, to make her more relevant to who you are now might help. Good luck!
@@snake-wing okay! Thank you so much. I really appreciate it! And I will totally try that later! I'm so happy that one of my idols can actually help out with this stuff,, you don't even know how grateful I am! Lol! Also, I just wanted to say that Vee is stunning. His design has something intriguing about it, so do you mind if I refrence it the slightest bit? I 100% would NOT copy his design, I just really like it, so may I use it for inspiration? If so, thank you! ^^
This is the only video that actually helped me, and I think that goes to show... This was an amazing video! I'm finally past the fear of change, and I've been making changes to my fursona Coco when I feel like I need to make a change to Coco
This is a very good video, I personally created my current sona with help from roblox, I didn’t have creating a sona in mind when I made my character but I ended up really attaching myself to it Using things like roblox, gacha, or even something like pic crews may help certain people ! It definitely helped me Also, the way you thanked people who didn’t watch to the end at the end is kinda funny pff
I've been a furry for most of my life and only now am I settling on a fursona (or two). As you said it's because I wasn't happy with my art and design skills until recently. I also just didn't feel like I had any ideas lol. Finally decided on a fanged deer as my truesona, and an alien beast as my fursona lol. So much creative freedom with that second one; I somehow felt a little restricted with existing species. Awesome video!!
Saw this in my recommended and have come back to say a few things... What you said about finding an animal that you're obsessed with and how you should really think about it before making that your fursona is a really good point, and I still struggle to this day with that, currently I'm kind of wanting to make an otter fursona, And despite what I said above, this actually does not feel like an animal obsession, but the last time I drew a mustelid, I remember one of my family members saying it looked like a dog and that really demotivated me. I guess it can be hard sometimes with a more unique sona since there are less otter fursuits out there so it can be harder to find a fursuit maker you like, and there are less ychs out there that aren't just dogs and cats, and sometimes it feels like it would be easier to have a common canine or feline character, but deep in your heart sometimes those animals just aren't for you :') I think that Coco was a bit of a cover up fursona. I had her when I still thought I was a girl, but I come out of this whole experience finding out I'm non-binary and I've been trying to make a new non-binary fursona for this occasion, since I don't really connect with Coco anymore Sorry for the long message, just hoping if there's anybody who can relate to this, and how they get past the slight sad feeling, that you can sometimes get with a less popular fursona? >
I don't really have any advice but I used to have a rat fursona (and when I first made my current fursona he only had a snake form) so I can certainly relate to finding it harder to commission people/buy YCHs etc, I do think these days there seem to be more artists/fursuit makers willing to draw different species though compared to when I first joined the fandom. I think at the end of the day if you don't connect to a canine/feline sona it isn't worth having one, even if you have to spend a bit longer finding artists to commission (I've always found putting out posts like "seeking artist who can draw x species" fairly useful when trying to find new artists willing to draw other species). In any case, I hope you're able to figure things out and end up with a sona you really connect too (and try not to dwell too much on your family saying the mustelid you drew looked like a dog, even if that's were the case, it's nothing more practice drawing mustelid anatomy won't sort)
@@snake-wing Thanks so much for the comment! Yeah, I do feel really connected to tye current otter sona I'm making, and I'm finally able to just sit back and see where things go. Before, I was kind of scared for change to my fursona cause I've switched so much but at this point I do feel like me coming back to mustelids for a second time isn't a coincidence :')
I think another thing is when you are younger and your brain hasn’t gotten to a more developed stage it might be harder to connect with a character because you may not have figured out who you are yet. Be patient:3
Thank you for the video. This has been the most helpful one so far! I’m new to the furry fandom and really would like to have a character I could call my own and maybe even one day I could try making a tail or something for my future fursona! Tysm for the tips! ^^
I love my kirin fursona, and they’re definitely one of my seconds! But for some reason, I’ve always had a fascination and love for foxes and cats, and I grew up with cats all my life I’ve raised many litters and made many strong connections to them. I always have the idea to mix but if I were a cat, I feel like I’d either be a black cat or splotched a marble red tabby. I’m not sure which I’d be, and with foxes, I love all kinds of foxes so if I were to even make some, I have no idea where to start 😢
I love vernids so much and I have two vernid characters, but I just need to completely overhaul their personalities because I’m just not connected as much as I’d like to be to them. My two fursonas are so similar, just a brown top coat and white undercoat, big brow bones with brow horns, two long back horns, blue eyes, blue mouths, and thats it basically 😂. One is a dragon and one is a kaprosuchus (dog croc) and I feel like they both represent a different aspect of my personality. Dawnfire the dragon is a big, powerful, doesn’t care about anything sort of dragon, someone I would be if I could, and Midas my kapro is a tiny, scrungy, energetic lil guy who’s someone that I am/someone I could be if I had no fear of expressing myself. My vernids are so well designed, especially the vern that I designed myself, but they just don’t fit in with me. They’re just characters, they need something more. I wish I could physically rip them apart and resemble them, but maybe I can do the metaphorical version of that.
My 'fursonas'(I prefer to call them personas) are both dinosaurs! Dinosaurs and paleontology are my main interests and have been since I was four, so obviously my personas are gonna be Dinos. One is Yvette the pink Spinosaurus, and my other is Orion the red Carnotaurus!
@@binbanboni2284 Do you mean that an animal with human qualities does not always have to be a Furry or is it a Furry? (Well I call any animal that looks like a human, furry 😅😊)
Ok I think I understood what you mean ... What she draws in if they are animals that are not human qualities, they are represented, as if they were a snake and a dog, I think 😅 normal (Ok, I was wrong) 😅
I am trying to get better lineart for my drawings. Is it fine if you tell me what brush you used in the backround and what settings? It has been really hard for me to find a good lineart brush for procreate.
For me, and this is a problem i have in all aspects of art. I can learn how to draw something but i cant apply that to different angles and poses. So my fursona has a design but i struggle to draw her in a way thats not 3/4 view
My 2 main fursonas are both very different One, the main one I’ve had for around 5 years now, xyp. (Pronounced zip) her original name was zip but it’s kinda boring so I Elon musk-Ed it. She’s *inahle* a dingo corgi dragon raptor..who’s blue and grey (GHGGAFFGN) the other I’ve had for maybe a year or less, synthea.she’s a bearded vulture griffin (but I mostly just draw her as a bearded vulture with spikes and teeth) she’s kewl 🧍♀️
Generally a fursona does represent you on some level otherwise it’d be an OC more than a sona, but they don’t have to have the same personality as you, no
I’ve been struggling for a whirl to make a design if an stick with for more than a week, they never really feel like me, but I have this issue where I’ve seen other ppls characters or sonas and think that they fit me so well even some times perfectly but liek, their others sonas and idk what to do. Like I’ve only seen a few designs that I see and have a connection with so strongly but they’re all other ppls sonas … Any advice?
I’m to the point of completely designing my oc Iris. I’ve gotten to the point I’ve gotten ride of her dragon wings and horns. I love dragons, but it’s not who I am. I have 5 fur sonas. Sirius, iris, rose, Juno and ghost all basked on my different genders being gender fluid
For anyway still struggling maybe make a animation meme like for example the meme ghost I just put some goat with a Fading black square on their face And I named it ghost so maybe get inspired by aniamtion meme names
My “fursona” is a human who is 50% snake, 30% salamander, 10% demon, and 10% porcupine ._. I know, I’m weird. Also yes, while she is a human, I still call her a fursona. I’m considering creating a full furry version of her.
I'm in a bit of a pickle. So, I have a fursona that I love to bits, but I'm unhappy with her. I don't know if I can replace or even redesign her... I just feel so bad and so guilty. Any ideas?
You can always try redesigning her or using another design, and if you aren’t happy just go back to using her in her previous design until you find something you are happy with
i've been a furry since i was 16 i'm currently 25 years i never had a fursona until i got a one from a giveaway a few years ago the type of furry i am i'm a Spargard, a combination of a dragon and a moth my fursona name is Blitz Arkale
I wanna make an actual fursona but...I already have an oc. And even tho it's not entirely an original character, I already connected with it. This oc feels most like...ME, you know?
I just want to hammer the point across, furry is not an identity, it is an interest. People who identify as animals are not furries, they are therians/other-kin. Furries also are not attracted to animals, those are zoophiles.... different things. This just seems like a video that new furries and furry criticizers would watch so I just felt the need to make this clear!!!
are you transgender? I noticed the design of the bandanna, the colours resemble that of the transgender flag, if you are transgender I fully support, if u just like the colours though that's fine too!

Your design process is so relatable. When designing my sona i knew I needed to be a bird but I also needed to be a dog so i mixed the two as best I could but i still need to make alt forms because I can't settle on one design.
Vee is really unique! I’ve never seen a snake sona that doesn’t have limbs added on to it.
@@snake-wing this is really helpful! thank you!
thanks you so much for the tips! i was wondering why i couldn’t connect with my fursona and it helped me a lot 😁
I adore Vee! He's adorable!
I gotta do it before it goes away from my mind
thank you so much for this!! i'm currently searching for a new main sona because i feel unattached to my old one so this was really helpful :D
I'm glad it was helpful! ^w^
Watched this while making a fursona. Very good advice, im honnestly keeping most of that in mind now. Alot of pitfalls from that video i fell into. Ive got about 11 fursona i moved from lmao.
Thank you, this video helped me very much! I already have several sonas, and I will use your advice to connect with them more.
Glad it was helpful!
My newest fursona represents a few things i love plus shes sort of
a more ideal me, shes part dwarf cat (love of tiny things) mostly scottish fold (favorite animal for 3 years now) she has a very small pair of wings (wish to fly) glowing eyes (wish for magic) and is very sweet clever selfless and has magical abilities.
Aaaa i love your artstyle and ofc Vee, very pretty design
I made my fursona pretty much based on my favorite game about werewolves
I gave her a lot of traits from the werewolves like pointy ears, long tongue and black eyes
I've had her for a little over a year now and probably will continue to use her as my fursona ❤
My fursona is a lemon shark and holland iop hrybrid :)
Nice :3
Thank you so much for this...can't find the right species or color scheme or anything...goat, griffin, wolf, cat, mouse, opossum, dutchie- Switched species so many times I feel like it should be a changeling at this point!
Recently I created new fursona but with different gender identity than mine. Trying to see how it affects my connection with him
I watched this while making my fursona, my old one was not appealing to me as I had gone through a lot and didn’t connect with her any longer. I used to be a spunky, rock and roll caracal-crocodile hybrid. Now I’m a well-humoured shaggy cat with a grunge style
Very nice artwork and interesting story 👍
I’m glad you found it helpful! 😊
I'd love one day to see someone use one of my design as a fursona or help someone make a fursona owo
This is a very good video, I personally created my current sona with help from roblox, I didn’t have creating a sona in mind when I made my character but I ended up really attaching myself to it
Using things like roblox, gacha, or even something like pic crews may help certain people ! It definitely helped me
Also, the way you thanked people who didn’t watch to the end at the end is kinda funny pff
Hi! I love your fursona, he's so cool! Great video also. I was wondering how you recorded your art process here? Like what software you used etc. :)
Saw this in my recommended and have come back to say a few things...
What you said about finding an animal that you're obsessed with and how you should really think about it before making that your fursona is a really good point, and I still struggle to this day with that, currently I'm kind of wanting to make an otter fursona,
And despite what I said above, this actually does not feel like an animal obsession, but the last time I drew a mustelid, I remember one of my family members saying it looked like a dog and that really demotivated me.
I guess it can be hard sometimes with a more unique sona since there are less otter fursuits out there so it can be harder to find a fursuit maker you like, and there are less ychs out there that aren't just dogs and cats, and sometimes it feels like it would be easier to have a common canine or feline character, but deep in your heart sometimes those animals just aren't for you :')
I think that Coco was a bit of a cover up fursona. I had her when I still thought I was a girl, but I come out of this whole experience finding out I'm non-binary and I've been trying to make a new non-binary fursona for this occasion, since I don't really connect with Coco anymore
Sorry for the long message, just hoping if there's anybody who can relate to this, and how they get past the slight sad feeling, that you can sometimes get with a less popular fursona? >
In any case, I hope you're able to figure things out and end up with a sona you really connect too
(and try not to dwell too much on your family saying the mustelid you drew looked like a dog, even if that's were the case, it's nothing more practice drawing mustelid anatomy won't sort)
REALY GOOD ❤ .
Thx for inspiring me , and made me wanna start sharing my art on the platform too :)
Thank you!
And go for it, never be afraid to share your art with the world!! ^^

"I do wear a lot of black and a lot of objects in my room"
Ah yes, *wearing objects.*
well technically she's not wrong XD
I use procreate too great app btw! 👍
I wish I could physically rip them apart and resemble them, but maybe I can do the metaphorical version of that.
new snake-wig vid! woo!!
wing* oops 😎
Amazing art!
thank you!!
How long !!! 👋🥺💗 I love your furries, what a beautiful way to draw nwn I would like to know how to make furries as well as YOU nwn!!!😭😻💜💖🐶💜😻
Thank you, that means a lot!
No problem nwn 💖💖
Furry means someone in the fandom I think and not an antrhopromorpic animal itself :3
I just need to get used to get used to drawing one. I've always drawn anime. The face change is going to be a pain xD
I am trying to get better lineart for my drawings. Is it fine if you tell me what brush you used in the backround and what settings? It has been really hard for me to find a good lineart brush for procreate.
I love cows, dragons, skunks, ferrets, dogs, bunnies, geckos, but idk really, what to do
my sona is a Guinea pig cus I have four of them hehe
That art is great! But what brush do you use?
For me, and this is a problem i have in all aspects of art. I can learn how to draw something but i cant apply that to different angles and poses. So my fursona has a design but i struggle to draw her in a way thats not 3/4 view
I bled in from the warriors community. I want to draw my own fursona but I'm struggling to connect with any of my designs
This helped a lot, i done a lot of quizzes and it kept on saying owl 🦉
Yo love the art! What brush do you use?
THIS IS AMAZING! :D 3rd :3
thank you c':
i love the way u do lineart, what brush is that if u don't mind me asking :0?
thank you, I use the technical pen
Damn I wish I could draw
If you don’t mind me asking, what brush are you using in the speedpaint? It looks really neat!
My 2 main fursonas are both very different
One, the main one I’ve had for around 5 years now, xyp. (Pronounced zip) her original name was zip but it’s kinda boring so I Elon musk-Ed it.
She’s *inahle* a dingo corgi dragon raptor..who’s blue and grey (GHGGAFFGN)
the other I’ve had for maybe a year or less, synthea.she’s a bearded vulture griffin (but I mostly just draw her as a bearded vulture with spikes and teeth) she’s kewl 🧍♀️
I have a question? Does your fursona have to have the same exact personality as you or no?? And do they have to represent you??
Generally a fursona does represent you on some level otherwise it’d be an OC more than a sona, but they don’t have to have the same personality as you, no
I’ve been struggling for a whirl to make a design if an stick with for more than a week, they never really feel like me, but I have this issue where I’ve seen other ppls characters or sonas and think that they fit me so well even some times perfectly but liek, their others sonas and idk what to do. Like I’ve only seen a few designs that I see and have a connection with so strongly but they’re all other ppls sonas …
Any advice?
Hi!
May I ask what brushes you use :)
At the time of this video I mainly used the technical pen I think
I’m to the point of completely designing my oc Iris. I’ve gotten to the point I’ve gotten ride of her dragon wings and horns. I love dragons, but it’s not who I am. I have 5 fur sonas.
Sirius, iris, rose, Juno and ghost all basked on my different genders being gender fluid
Im a moth cat furry and the fur color is black and white like half half and ears and tail were like fox color
Aww that's so cool!!
Ty!
For anyway still struggling maybe make a animation meme like for example the meme ghost I just put some goat with a Fading black square on their face
And I named it ghost so maybe get inspired by aniamtion meme names
My “fursona” is a human who is 50% snake, 30% salamander, 10% demon, and 10% porcupine ._. I know, I’m weird. Also yes, while she is a human, I still call her a fursona. I’m considering creating a full furry version of her.
Wait if she's 100% animals how is she a human?(I hope this doesn't sound rude-)
If I may ask, what brush did you use? lovely video!
I use the technical pen ^^
Thank you!
What’s the line art brush you used on procreate?
When this video was made I believe I was using the technical pen for lineart
Amazing! Just one thing, could you perhaps name what type of pen you use?
When this video was made, I was using the technical pen
My fursona is a wolf I’m looking for a app to draw it.
I'm in a bit of a pickle. So, I have a fursona that I love to bits, but I'm unhappy with her. I don't know if I can replace or even redesign her... I just feel so bad and so guilty. Any ideas?
You can always try redesigning her or using another design, and if you aren’t happy just go back to using her in her previous design until you find something you are happy with
@@snake-wing That's true. Thank you! :)
I have a few different fursonas. Think sander Sides.
i've been a furry since i was 16 i'm currently 25 years i never had a fursona until i got a one from a giveaway a few years ago the type of furry i am i'm a Spargard, a combination of a dragon and a moth my fursona name is Blitz Arkale
Yaay Procreate
I wanna make an actual fursona but...I already have an oc. And even tho it's not entirely an original character, I already connected with it. This oc feels most like...ME, you know?
I just want to hammer the point across, furry is not an identity, it is an interest. People who identify as animals are not furries, they are therians/other-kin. Furries also are not attracted to animals, those are zoophiles.... different things. This just seems like a video that new furries and furry criticizers would watch so I just felt the need to make this clear!!!
Excuse me did you say you PURCHASED a design???
Yes? c':
First
are you transgender? I noticed the design of the bandanna, the colours resemble that of the transgender flag, if you are transgender I fully support, if u just like the colours though that's fine too!
I think I give avali vibes with stripey ears, so I made just that!
