@@mrhalfsaid1389 Yes, I think we’re referring to the same thing, but describing it differently. I loved your video, I really like it and I would like to put more effort into the design of my characters, so I will do my part to improve more and more, especially if I want to get used to digital drawing. Exaggerating certain traits is one of my favorite things to do in character design! Big, pointy eyelashes, big ass goggles, humanly-impossible-to-achieve ahoge with a star on the end, and all that.. I think these can make a character more memorable, especially for more cartoony art styles.
This just inspired me to get back into drawing. I've had so many character ideas and this really helped figure out how to go about designing them. Pasta man and ganeshapon will be given form some day
yo I rock with this art style! its like extremely stylised/simplistic anime characters. Also I got a neat character design tip if you’re making a bunch of characters in the same universe/setting: Make a ref sheet and line all of them up and make sure their designs make sense as they are from the same ‘setting’ or world. A good example of this is Pokémon, as you can tell that they all belong in the same universe, except if you’re deliberately making a character design that’s “alien” just like the ultrabeasts from gen 7. Another good example is ‘Mlaatr (My life as a teenage robot) ‘ You can clearly see that the shape language of the designs make sense and fit well. That’s all I had to say, I hope it’s not too much!!

Thanks for advice. There were some character design videos but I enjoyed our help on character design. I appreciate the process of making them chibis or review them from a quick glance. A character design silhouette is imporrant so I am glad its being explained here. So here is my main character for a series I made. Let me explain. Ironoe is the main protagonist of my story project which is magical girl based. She is in her civilian form and here is her outfit most of the time. Her name is Ironoe. So her design conveys a cutesy appearance as she has a chubby appearance. She has an oval circular shape head, noodle limbs and uses rectangles and blocky shapes. Ironoe wears a salmon pink red cardigan underneath a white shirt with a button on, a bun tied with a blue scrunchie, socks, and dark brown loafers to compliment her dark brown hair. Because her hair and shoes are dark brown the main focus of Ironoe is her outfit. She has blemish cheeks similar to Ochako from My Hero Academia. And she has a heart symbol on the back of her cardigan. Revealing a bubbly personality right? Well...kind of. Ironoe's design has key elements that convey a side to her. Her hair bun is messy as if she hastily put it on. Showing a bumpy heart shaped bun. Her socks are misplaced as one of them is more longer than the other and wears messy socks. As for her cheeks its actually make up to hide her acne. Her cardigan heart logo has a wrapped up heart. Her design is supposed to be a happy go lucky since magical girls in media are lucky people. However the issue is that these keypoints indicate perhaps she's pretending to be cheery, and moreso revealing she's a tired, anti social and lonely person. Other than that thanks for your tips on silhouette. I feel most series need to make a character's silhouette pop out so I decides to focus more on her top bun shape and the shape of her cardigan.
Love hearing how your character has different sides to her personality and how you convey different parts of them with her appearance !! ^^ Thank you for sharing your process ! :D
@@Fruityume Thank you. I hope I gave the message of my character across. I feel motifs are important especially symbols. Like in Overwatch the purple skeleton icon people recognize that as Sombra, the Mexican hacker of Talon or the cute rabbit icon associated with Hana Song also known as the mecha pilot D Va. I feel hearts represent compassion but I feel I wanted to showcase someone who may seem cute but is not. That's why I made a wrapped heart for her motif. I conveyed circles for her head and arms in order to make her design stand out but still show rectangles showing another side. She may look sweet but there's more to her. As for some key details she has a chubby appearance and unlike most magical girl series, she has normal hair color. I decided to take inspiration from the Eizouken series, Steven Universe, Gennedy Tartovosky's work and Dungeon Meshi as the basis for the humans in my design project.

I feel like people can have naturally cool toned skin. The only examples I can think of is very dark skin that one would liken more to a black of purple than a brown but that counts right?
Yes, it’s true that browns are much more versatile, as shown in the chart! While it’s not possible to have a totally cool color as a human skin tone, browns can sometimes make skin look cool. This is because brown is the fusion of all the colors, giving it a lot more range in undertones. Brown is still considered “warm,” but it can fuse with cooler tones, such as purple.
When I come up with characters they either appear immediately from my head, are based off of a song or its cover art, or based off of a dream so I don’t know how to design from references lol 😅 so this was pretty helpful
As an artist who also designs characters from all of those things, I’m really glad this explanation was helpful !! :,D I always found it a bit trickier sometimes, trying to match exactly what’s in my head >
I love how creative you are! Your art is so cute and amazing you really helped me to get better as a artist. You should def make plushies n make char designs for big companys ur to talented not to!
I just subscribed. Greetings fellow cartoon artist! Its amazing art and you grow well. Unfortunately, for me its so difficult to grow as cartoon artist. I do countryballs and countryhumans(chibi).
Continuation: btw since this is my art niche, can you uhm critique the countryhuman character I did? I am happy with my current artstyle. Just the theme is different but same character. My concern is the recognizability. Is it okay? I stick to that one which is Philippines, it is because I am bit overwhelm with lot of countries. Its chibi, I'm struggling with make it taller or full human. I'm still practicing the anatomy.
Because I didn't get to explain more on my other character let me explain final comments on Ironoe. Ironoe's design took inspiration of a snowman and teardrop. Now for her magical girl form or should I say her partner. (Also sorry I'm commenting too long I love character design so I wanna share it with you and see if my character design for this specific character is good or not...give me criticism) Meet Paletta she is Ironoe's partner and representation of Ironoe's inner feelings. Paletta is a blot my magical girl mascot or symbol. You see a magical girl or boy relies on the source of their inner creativity which is blots. In my project blots are the inner soul or inner feelings of a person. Blots have different forms, blots have a chibi paint like appearance like paint from paint tubes and have mini animal features. Their second form is them possessing the form of their partner and their form is based on how the magical girl and boy views themselves. The chibi design for the Blots is inspired by Miraculous Ladybug and the concept of the Blots is inspired by Jungian Archetypes and Siegmund Freud's Ego, Super Ego, and Id. The Id is the Blot, the Super Ego is the Magical Boy and Magical Girl while the Ego is the fusion itself. While Ironoe is normal Paletta is the magical girl. Paletta's design went through some changes but I settled on her look. Originally the concept of blots has never appeared and Ironoe was the standard magical girl with a witch design. But I decided to create the blots to establish my magic system and try out whimsical character design. Paletta's colors are supposed to be the opposite of Ironoe's pink and blue. Her's design unlike magical girls who primarily use pink, her design has purple and yellow. Ironoe's design was supposed to be off since blue and red while they mix are primary colors. Paletta's design meanwhile has purple and yellow which complement each other. Paletta was originally going to be green or pink but I decides purple and yellow is a good color. In magical girl shows purple is used for lone wolves or magical girls with mystery and full fledged experience. I decided to use those colors to show her vibrance yet mystery especially since it suits her design. Joyness and happiness which is yellow yet royalty and mystique which is purple. Also to use neutral I decided to use white (for her secondary form) in order to make the purple (her main color) and yellow (her accents to pop). For her first form Paletta is a purple blob with yellow glowing eyes and mouth, she can shapeshift into different appearances but her signature form is a tiny chibi humanoid with upward short twintails (you know like Sailor Moon or Madoka Kaname). She has cute mini fangs and has the yellow accents acts as biolumenescence. For her secondary form Paletta possesses Ironoe and transforms her body to suit herself. Blots are based on self esteem and Ironoe has low self esteem so Paletta is small. Paletta's design takes inspiration from Jesters and her inspirations were from 2000s DC's Teen Titans Jinx, Jevil from Deltarune, Spinel from Steven Universe, Jenny Wakeman from My Life As A Teenage Robot, Kuromi from Hello Kitty and the main inspiration for Paletta SEGA's NiGhTs. Also Splatoon and the inklings as a reference for the basis of Blots. Paletta's magical girl form has her hair be sort of similar to a jester's cap and the twin pigtails are pointed upwards. To make her design stand out Paletta's pigtails float and are detachable. Like they do not connect with her hair at all. Her two twintails have yellow accents and to make the jester motif alive her twintails have droplets of paint resembing jester's hat bells. Paletta has a white top with circular paint jester appearance. Paletta's gloves are literal paint of yellow and purple. Considering this series has an art motif like Splatoon Paletta has splotches of paint on her cheeks resembling hearts. Her neckline is inspired by Jester ruffles but have the literal paint wooden paint tray. You know that wooden object you hold with your hand that has paint. Paletta's shoes on the other hand are tricky. She has Jester short I was thinking of having paint tubes as shoes but I'm unsure on what to add. Besides that Paletta has fangs in her magical girl form and has a slight bat creature motif. Also Paletta is short because the height of the user depends on self esteem. Because Ironoe has bad self esteem Paletta is short because of Ironoe's self esteem issues. As for her eyes her design concept was based on Takashi Murakami's work. Her eyes feel hypnotic so I decided to have yellow eyes and purple irises. Paletta's design has sharpness with her twintails and I hope I conveyed her personality kind of.
I've stopped using white in art a few months ago Cuz it kinda takes away of the correction pen I use especially since the correction pen had a yellow hue for some reason.. Grey n Blue work :3
Quick question, if you’re making a character that’s prob going to be a twist villain or a character that betrays another, would you still follow shape language etc? lol but anyway I love ur style sm I wanna eat it
I would still follow shape language for this character, but not necessarily in a stereotypical “villain” way. I would encourage any character to have more traits than simply the fact that they’re a villain, meaning they would have other aspects to their personality, allowing for a variety of features that represent more about them. A really good example of this type of character is Martin from Love Simon. He feels completely realistic and true to himself, while also being a complete menace. I find that these characters are more realistic and understandable, because it’s important to remember that regardless of the role, every character is still a representation of a person :D
Hi FRUiTYUME. I have a question. So i like to make pixel art of my characters (Trough i havent posted them yet), and i make them in a characters template kinda like gacha club or papa's loui, and one thing that i always think is if i should do every types of shoes, hairs, clothes, etc. But i don't know if i should or shouldn't do that. What do you think?
Ah, I see ! I’m not super familiar with those templates, but it sounds like a template is likely what’s making them look the same. If you’d like to make them look more different from one another, I’d suggest trying to draw them outside of a template when giving them more features! As long as they are recognizable to you and you like the look of them stylistically, it is totally up to you! :]
I consentrate on an asthetic, personality, and then the music that the vibe I want it to be. For example one of my characters is a furry white tiger who js a mathematician, and a god, so I listen to the "C" ep. From feryquitous.
i love how you sound like your art style

Love Your Artstyle
oh yes bro this video is awesome youve got a new subscriber ^_^
I like your art advice and your art style reminds me of Jonas Vazquez.
Scrumptious artstyle, solid vid
I'm definetly gonna use this. Also SPLATOON MUSIC
LOVE ur art style btw
thank you very much!

Your style is so cool!
Your voice is nice to listen to
Bro tmnt 2012, i love that 12:42
I just subscribed.
This is great, I love your videos and characters! Keep up the good work
@@theyjaye2212 Ah, I’m so glad you like them ! ;▽; thank you !!
TMNT MENTIONED 😦😦😦 (instant subscribe)
very helpful thanks!
Because I didn't get to explain more on my other character let me explain final comments on Ironoe. Ironoe's design took inspiration of a snowman and teardrop. Now for her magical girl form or should I say her partner. (Also sorry I'm commenting too long I love character design so I wanna share it with you and see if my character design for this specific character is good or not...give me criticism)
Meet Paletta she is Ironoe's partner and representation of Ironoe's inner feelings.
Never have I ever seen such a badass and super cool artstyle being used in a TH-cam channel. I love it so much!!
( ✨️∀✨️)!!
I've stopped using white in art a few months ago
Cuz it kinda takes away of the correction pen I use especially since the correction pen had a yellow hue for some reason..
Grey n Blue work :3
Yo splatoon music in the backround
Your art looks like fnf
Quick question, if you’re making a character that’s prob going to be a twist villain or a character that betrays another, would you still follow shape language etc? lol but anyway I love ur style sm I wanna eat it
Just give em jagged teeth and call it a day. Its "hidden" so it totally fits.
-Is what I assume folk would say
I would still follow shape language for this character, but not necessarily in a stereotypical “villain” way. I would encourage any character to have more traits than simply the fact that they’re a villain, meaning they would have other aspects to their personality, allowing for a variety of features that represent more about them. A really good example of this type of character is Martin from Love Simon. He feels completely realistic and true to himself, while also being a complete menace. I find that these characters are more realistic and understandable, because it’s important to remember that regardless of the role, every character is still a representation of a person :D

Extra Nice ✍️
I also consider music extremely important when it comes to characters !! ^^ Lots of great ways to find inspiration !
I have a toy that looks EXACTLY like the pink hair girl in the thumbnail
