He's calling everything but the silo a silo. Gee look at that silo (dish) over there, and that silo (just a building), and that unimportant hole in the ground (an actual missile silo). Come on Aaron XD
+ColonialFungus Well that will be pretty easy. You just have to put multiple landing geas with warheads on the bottom of your ship and detach them if you want to destroy something. Many small ship gears for carpet bombing and fewer big gears for an even bigger boom.
+ColonialFungus very cool concept, but it is by no means the most effective... A continuous bombardment of freshly welded warheads with a bit of armor and a decoy here or there... no more base... but who doesn't like giant missiles right?!
Jon Karlsen Or just use the missile to carry warheads into the gravity field then let the gravity pull them to the ground. 2-3 payloads could level a large area
Could you create a fighter that can come down from orbit, drop a payload onto a base. Then once finished return to orbit. But be small enough to put onto a carrier ship. I've been playing around with it and I've created a few test modules but I'd love to see where you go with it.
bbdawise Mods aren't needed; it just needs to be able to hover in atmosphere with the payload, and have enough thrust to make it back into space; hydrogen optional if you can get enough thrust
+Laura S. Yeah, maybe you could create a large fleet of bombers that drop cluster payloads in range of a planet's gravity. Then, after you've gotten a waypoint to the enemy base, let gravity do the rest.
Cool concept but you do realize all it would take to counter those would be a single minigun turret, right? That warhead in front would blow up and take the rest with it. Also, and I assume this is all vanilla, hydrogen thrusters are an overkill. A single small trusted with a battery would suffice. Since you can't go over 100something mp/s in vanilla actually no thruster at all would suffice, you'd simply had to guide it well over the target, release them, and let gravity do the rest. But again, problem no1 persists, a single sentry gun or even an engineer with a machine gun could easily intercept those.
Since you seem to know your stuff about SE, could you anser a question for a noob like me? -Wouldn't the Timer Blocks also be turned off when the missiles turn off their reactors?
Nexus Void well, yes and no. What the missiles I assume are doing is turn off the thrusters or the fuel supply, not the power systems. But if they would at any point turn off all power then yes, I guess it'd be impossible for the whole thing to start again on its own without player interaction.
+Jo Veteran You could use a sensor to turn the warheads off until they were fairly close to the target. Obviously hiding them a little would make sense too, but you could design it in such a way that the impact forces the first warhead to come loose then blow, kind of how a HEAT/HESH tank shell works. There's a hollow where the charge is funnelled into and then the explosive pushes it through. You could also go full Soviet on their ass and put a gatling gun on every available space lol. On the missile I mean.
Javon Younger sure, that could work. But again the turret would eliminate a heck lot of them. I mean, you would need to throw like 30 separate warheads, if not more, and have them spaced properly as to not chain explode for at least a few to reach the surface. And that would be a single turret. Go against 5 or 6 of them? Forget it. You need a really well armored missile to pass through a minigun barrage. The thing is, the armor would actually contain most of the blast inside the body and propel it upwards destroying the back of the missile. By the time it'd hit the surface, the armor blocks themselves would do more damage by simply crashing to the target than the actual explosive. And that's where a simpler, yet effective idea comes from. Kinetic bombardment using inert, heavy materials. Impossible to stop, perfectly accurate, and with a mod that removes the speed cap, utterly devastating! There was even a cold war project based in that idea. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Thor
+Mighty Wolf Yeah at the beginning of the video he called the dish a silo, but I thought it was just a slip but later when he sent missiles at the dish he repetitively said "direct hit to the silo...another hit to the silo...that one missed the silo because the silo was falling apart." Edit: It turns out he just calls everything on the base a silo, even the storage compartment. I guess he likes silos lol
+LastStandGamers Awesome build! Just wanted to add one thing... You can turn these into directly guided missiles by attaching a laser antenna to both the orbital station and each missile. You can then guide each one directly to a desired target while still not broadcasting your missiles locations. As a fire and forget weapon though, great build!
Try shotgun bombing. Send a missile that breaks up into multiple bombs before impact. Get the range, calculate the time at max speed itll take to reach a certain distance, time it to separate. That way, lightly defended outposts will just get peppered.
this would be so cool now with raycasting, have a little rotor turret that you control, press a button and have a missile barrage headed to that exact coordinate
Turning this into some form of cluster bom would be amazing, somehow releasing the warheads some distance above ground so they spread over a large area, or using pistons to increase the spread, but that's probably going to be wonky.
One block they should look to add in a future update is something to paint targets. Imagine if you could send a scout fighter craft in to mark several different targets, and then transmit that data back to a capital ship to call in an orbital bombardment!
ah come on. 1st thing i would do when the planets got unlocked id build an underground base. too bad a Orbital missle strike has caved in my entrance and i have suplies to last 2 days. (writen down in a diary that is located in an spider cave)
no. Unless you SOMEHOW managed to destroy an entire planet at once (i.e., 500,000 warheads or something) I don't think just digging a really long tunnel would crash the game. Planets are just really big, glorified asteroids (obviously with gravity and oxygen etc, but they are still just terrain voxel spheres
Can tell you a major flaw with this design. it needs just one single bullet to destroy those missiles. That bomb in the front will blow up the rest of the bombs which will destroy the rest of the missile. So against a bunch of these, a single FlaK would be enough. Maybe a whole lot of this in a smaller version could be relatively cost effective. Or you simply build a maneuveral orbitel bomber that takes position above the target and simply drops unpowered bomb carpets?
I really liked how they pulsed! The only thing I would change imp is that when you launch them they just float up for a second before turning on. I think it would be safer if they just did a single pulse before targeting, or if they didn't detach before they acquired a target...
LastStandGamers Do stations move in an orbit? or are they stationary in comparison to one point on the ground? This would also be interesting for something like a passive sensor spy satellite.
+Moss Foster I'm thinking we need to have giant armor block battle axes windmilling constantly on rotors, which we detach to fling at incoming missiles. You get style points at the very least.
another pretty cool thing to do is on the station in outer space, add a sensor on it, and when detecting a player, it turns on a beacon saying ypu have x seconds until launch, or whatever you want it to say, and if they stay, it auto launches the missile. a few modifications would have to be made, you may want to have 2 or 3 warheads already as ships
I'm glad planets finally came, it allows a lot of great concepts, such as space elevators or surface to space rockets. Can't wait to see what players create.
+Jacob Mathis This would make is 1000% more effective. But it would also mean you could only have one missile flying to the target at a time. Unless you have a hybrid system of tv missiles and guided ones as wel.
+Spunk Wizard Is it possible for a missle to try to follow another missle? You can control the front one and the others can follow, But you'd probably end up blowing them all up.
Techaxe maybe it's possible to make something like that, and if the first missile gets a headstart then they won't blow each other up. also they should have some time in between being launched.
why don't you make a missile that works like the hellstorm missile in CoD where the missile reaches a certain distance and it lets out a flurry bombs (if you could find a way to make the bombs small ship bombs so you can store more within the missile as well as adding a wider area of effect instead of doing more damage making you save on the amount of missiles you need to use as well as damaging the entire base instead of focusing on one area) This would also make it useful on the battlefield because you can hit a lot of ground based vehicles (maybe air vehicles if your lucky) over a widespread area. which would cripple the enemy because there vehicles would be heavily damaged from the sheer amount of explosives. Even though this would be hard to design one way would a missile a carpet bomb where the missile can fly horizontally over the area and open a bay door to let the explosives roll out. then the missile itsel could go back into orbit to refuel and reload or bring the missile down onto another area therefore adding collateral damage.
Word of advice, bad idea putting warheads directly at the front of a guided missile unprotected and exposed to anti-air fire. Gatling Turrets will definitely score one hit on the head of an incoming missile and prematurely detonate it. It's a good idea to cover it up with catwalk panels or even heavy armor to cushion the counter-fire and give the missile some protection before impact.
turrets would down them all before they hit. anti ship/station missiles require countermeasures. set decoys on merge blocks next to a wedge. use either a timing block or remote control to trigger the merge blocks release. the blocks will bounce off the wedge and move away from the missile while still maintaining speed with the missile. turrets will target the decoys first, then the warheads, but by the time the decoys are dealt with the missile hits.
The only issue I have here is that you need to know the gps location of your target beforehand which would involve having access to the target unless I am very much mistaken. the idea of launching a wave of them though is a good idea as the first or second ones will more than likely be taken out by defences but will be good decoys for the last two, or however many more you use
you should add a function that splits the missile into several warheads when a certain lower limit is reached(e.g. 500 meters). Another idea would be timed charges. Making it so that the missile splits into two close to the target but instead of spreading in attempt to create a cluster bomb, they just hit the same place shortly after each other. That should result in deeper penetration.
You could improve the launching station by having the missiles side by side, then add a gravity generator. The missiles will then be catapulted down by the gravity generator into space then you could a timer block to count 2 seconds then activate the guidance system. It just makes it better than releasing the missile and going up to it to activate it.Still a good job by the way
Create a megaton missile. able to eradicate a whole outpost in one go. Point in this is to send it from a moon perhaps. using the same method like the space programs in the lat 60's. equip the rocket with boosters and fuel. send it off a shuttle station. and in your case. maybe fit the boosters with warheads and program them to be missiles themselves at the last second. having a wider spread and maybe annihilating anything further out. Just a thought though. And do keep up with your videos. they're all just awesome.
I tried to build this but failed. Great to see you did it, it was very satisfying! How about a gravity elevator for the next episode? Getting to the other side of the planet through a hole using the gravity concept :D
try setting up a sensor on the front to trigger an explosion just before impact. you will get a much greater yield of damage, than just the impact. At that point you might as well just have armor blocks to make the payload heavier and cheaper.
The most terrifying thing about this weapon? The fact that a:you can't see it coming untill it's too late, and b:there's no way to tell who fired the missile, so they can just fire and forget.
wish i was alittle bit better with working with the guidance/scripting stuff built a concept drone/missile that would be pretty cool if i could just get it to seek a target. basically took inspiration from the model of a bacteriophage, the goal was to have the drone "latch on" to an enemy ship or station, and then it would initiate a piston with a drill on the end of it and piece through the outer shell, the drill was backed by some war heads so once the piston extended fully it would detonate. idea was to shove warheads past armor
what you could try is using the missile system from that missile destroyer you spotlighted while back. and what about if the base had defenses? a single missile from a missile turret would take one of them out, never mind having a couple of them dotted around and i think the Gatling turrets might take a few out before they reach the ground
Hey Arron! Do you think you could maybe make a station that actually orbits the planet. You know actually moves relative to the planet. I think that would be really cool. Using this concept would be quiet cool in that your enemy would have a harder time locating the station as well as giving you station a broader range being able to hit the other side of the planet. And thank you by the way. I have been searching and waiting for a while for someone to do such a thing with the stations and planet. By the way you sir are an innovator and a genius when it comes to weapon design and function in my opinion. Keep up the great work!
Where can I see the design of these missiles? Every time I try to get something to fly down into planet atmosphere, it insists on flying horizontally regardless of the direction specified in the Remote control.
It'd be really neat if you made a few videos where you're actively trying to defend against your own contraptions instead of just attacking blank targets.
Arron, I've got a suggestion for a modification to your design. a) add some ion thrusters and turn the platform itself into a ship b) make the platform aim at the target. This might get a little tricky, because you don't want it to fly very far, but if it could move, aim and hold position it could then c) dumbfire a spread of missiles, doing damage over a larger area... which may make you want to d)double or triple the size of the platform to get a really nice spread PS: I love your weapon systems :)
I have seen a video of a weapon fired from space that uses gravity and crushes the area around the impact into a tight ball leaving it all in one lump separated from the planet in a circle that does major damage
Interesting. Would it perhaps be possible to have it detach the warheads when it gets within a distance of the target so it covers an area instead of creating just a single crater?
I had an interesting idea. what about gravity propelled weapons? like a space sniper. all you would need to do is use GPS to aim it from space, then unleash a barrage of warheads. they could even be produced using a projector a welders giving you a steady stream of them. I would love to see you attempt this. the only problem I could think of would be gravity pulling them off course so you may have to drop them straight down. not sure though.
I love how everything is a silo to him.
Not sure if insult, or something else..
yeah literally EVERYTHING was a silo lol
Yes, a radar dish is a silo
So when the silo impacted the silo it really emphasizes how silo the silo can silo

Nukes
Jason Baronov nope your graphics must me changed to your computers ability. It’s a performance issue in your computer
I did the reverse. Planet-to-space capital ship killer. It'll destroy or cripple even the largest ships.
Or a missile with a sensor that splits the warheads prior to impact for larger radius of damage and consequitive hits for deeper damage.
You should make a scatterbomb by using sensors, a timer and merge blocks. Would saturate a much wider area!
You like to commit Warcrimes arent you?

im sure theirs probably good builders like you Last stand. BUT YOU to me are the best weopon maker in Space Engineers!
now, can you split a planet in 2
+Sir Dasher The 3rd yes. It wouldn't fly apart, but given enough time and no life, you could tunnel all the way through a planet
but would the game crash
+Sir Dasher The 3rd yes it would with out a doupt
no. Unless you SOMEHOW managed to destroy an entire planet at once (i.e., 500,000 warheads or something) I don't think just digging a really long tunnel would crash the game. Planets are just really big, glorified asteroids (obviously with gravity and oxygen etc, but they are still just terrain voxel spheres

idea. 4 ejectors/connectors at each side of the main warhead, spreading explosives (the component ones) at a sufficient height.
I have been waiting for a build like this! Keep up the good work, and please update us on the spider bombs. Thanks for the content :D
But they can't hit a target on the other side of the planet
Angle it and it might hit :)
+flamedramon if you'd launch them from a (somewhat) movable ship, his wouldn't be a problem
You all make great points
+flamedramon That's the great part about an orbiting station.
LastStandGamers Do stations move in an orbit? or are they stationary in comparison to one point on the ground? This would also be interesting for something like a passive sensor spy satellite.
Lol love it! Initial boost followed by ballistic flight then a powered decent. That's a good style.
They need to add stronger explosives
Imagine either having a lot of these around a planet, or have one of them being able to automatically move around the planets atmosphere
Now we need a anti-missile setup! Maybe a huge laser?
any missile turret could take this down...
+Moss Foster even 2-3 gatling turrets would handle those
Considering the fact that all the misilles are consistently coming from a single direction... Even a shitty gatling turret would be enough...
as i said, this system is useless
+Moss Foster I'm thinking we need to have giant armor block battle axes windmilling constantly on rotors, which we detach to fling at incoming missiles. You get style points at the very least.

so a bigger bomb.

maybe it's possible to make something like that, and if the first missile gets a headstart then they won't blow each other up. also they should have some time in between being launched.
I'm just getting into the game and I've only just started to make a ship. This stuff is awesome.
Can't wait to see some intercontinental ballistic missiles.
OMG YES YOU DID. i was waiting for you to do this
Hey Arron could you make a kinetic weapon for a satellite
This is really cool. Good going LSG! Ive been trying to do this but never had luck or the time!
I wonder what building a giant space elevator would do.
Now you should make a printing orbital station that will make these rockets, fill them with hydogen, release them and make the next one.
odin in ghosts the best orbital strike !
and loki
Nah mate. Lunar Super MAC cannons. For all your Covenant super-carrier defence needs.
+AngelOfTheMad Enclave orbital strike. 'Nuff said.
megatiger78 Broken Steel? We destroyed Liberrty Prime.
megatiger78 We'll destroy him too.
Finally an orbital strike satellite. We need lots more of these.
He called a radar a silo
I wish I had a better computer so I could play this for more than 30 min without crashing.
Considering the resource cost these misilles are not effective _at all_. You would be more effective doing suicide runs with a grinder... =/
+Nexus Void Last Stand Gamers™
+Nexus Void High Speed Armor Blocks. :)
+Weak1ings Search for "Ironstorm Missile" to see the high speed armor blocks version
this looks terrifyingly accurate. Good to see that the planet avoidance can be overridden
Kim jong or north Koreas favorite TH-cam video.
This is more Russian missiles in space? Come on North Korea can barely afford there model rockets not
No one even mention Russian lmao this video has made north Koreas have prosperity do not pick on the little guy ;)
Pls get a new survival episode!
I absolutely love them !
why don't you make a missile that works like the hellstorm missile in CoD where the missile reaches a certain distance and it lets out a flurry bombs (if you could find a way to make the bombs small ship bombs so you can store more within the missile as well as adding a wider area of effect instead of doing more damage making you save on the amount of missiles you need to use as well as damaging the entire base instead of focusing on one area) This would also make it useful on the battlefield because you can hit a lot of ground based vehicles (maybe air vehicles if your lucky) over a widespread area. which would cripple the enemy because there vehicles would be heavily damaged from the sheer amount of explosives. Even though this would be hard to design one way would a missile a carpet bomb where the missile can fly horizontally over the area and open a bay door to let the explosives roll out. then the missile itsel could go back into orbit to refuel and reload or bring the missile down onto another area therefore adding collateral damage.
plz post more often your the best youtuber i know of
Hes calling a Satellite dish, a "missile silo" .... the silo is the tube in the ground, kiddo. ;)
Good work on the missiles. Now you're gonna need a anti-missile defense system, good luck.
Word of advice, bad idea putting warheads directly at the front of a guided missile unprotected and exposed to anti-air fire. Gatling Turrets will definitely score one hit on the head of an incoming missile and prematurely detonate it.
It's a good idea to cover it up with catwalk panels or even heavy armor to cushion the counter-fire and give the missile some protection before impact.
mostly when you make a weapon like this i point out the obvious flaws but this looks like something I'd use good job
turrets would down them all before they hit.
anti ship/station missiles require countermeasures. set decoys on merge blocks next to a wedge. use either a timing block or remote control to trigger the merge blocks release. the blocks will bounce off the wedge and move away from the missile while still maintaining speed with the missile. turrets will target the decoys first, then the warheads, but by the time the decoys are dealt with the missile hits.
damn. this game definitely got upgraded since then.
You inspired me to get space engineers. Thanks
It is an awsome idea to make this missiles! I hope this is possible in the new version of the game.
Arron, a new twist to the survival series would be to crash a prebuilt ship into a planet and try to survive that way. I would love it anyways!
Why does this remind me of the Hoth base
That should result in deeper penetration.
if you switched the rockets with halo drop pods, that can be a spawn station and can drop anywhere on the plant
You could improve the launching station by having the missiles side by side, then add a gravity generator.
The missiles will then be catapulted down by the gravity generator into space then you could a timer block to count 2 seconds then activate the guidance system. It just makes it better than releasing the missile and going up to it to activate it.Still a good job by the way
Can you create a cluster-like missile? That disjoints into many smaller warheads that inflict damage in a radius rather than a pinpoint target damage?
If there are other space elements at play, some small station turrets plopped on the side could fend off missiles.
+Xspy70 Around 7000 or 9000 depth, I think anything that reaches that just despawns and your dig tool is removed from the hotbar
Okay, those missiles are gorgeous.
try setting up a sensor on the front to trigger an explosion just before impact. you will get a much greater yield of damage, than just the impact. At that point you might as well just have armor blocks to make the payload heavier and cheaper.
The most terrifying thing about this weapon? The fact that a:you can't see it coming untill it's too late, and b:there's no way to tell who fired the missile, so they can just fire and forget.
wish i was alittle bit better with working with the guidance/scripting stuff built a concept drone/missile that would be pretty cool if i could just get it to seek a target. basically took inspiration from the model of a bacteriophage, the goal was to have the drone "latch on" to an enemy ship or station, and then it would initiate a piston with a drill on the end of it and piece through the outer shell, the drill was backed by some war heads so once the piston extended fully it would detonate. idea was to shove warheads past armor
the counter measure to space stations is a grappling hook from another ship might loose some resources though
what you could try is using the missile system from that missile destroyer you spotlighted while back. and what about if the base had defenses? a single missile from a missile turret would take one of them out, never mind having a couple of them dotted around and i think the Gatling turrets might take a few out before they reach the ground
Keep up the great work!
yesss. waited for this kind of build
Once space engineers gets more popular and entire clans on big servers are formed is when i would really love to use something like this.
i've been waiting ever since planets came for this XD
Arron, I've got a suggestion for a modification to your design.
a) add some ion thrusters and turn the platform itself into a ship
b) make the platform aim at the target. This might get a little tricky, because you don't want it to fly very far, but if it could move, aim and hold position it could then
c) dumbfire a spread of missiles, doing damage over a larger area... which may make you want to
d)double or triple the size of the platform to get a really nice spread
PS: I love your weapon systems :)
If you need to get coords for it to lock on. How do you do that without having to go down to the target?
Is it possible to launch the warheads off the rocket as it gets close to the target for a wider aoe blast?
