- Firefighters are working to put out a blaze on the historic Oceanside, California pier, which is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego in Southern California. Early reports are that a vacant restaurant (which used to be a Ruby's diner) caught fire which has spread to the rest of the pier. Fire departments both via the beach and on the surf with fireboats are attempting to control the flames, as intense thick smoke billows toward the coastline towns.

Insurance claim… they were due for a new pier.. it was on the news months ago. Way too much of a coincidence
Highly suspicious 😟
yup!!! - I am having difficulty processing what I am looking at.... I bet they recently upgraded their insurance package.... - why is this piece of our childhood memories on fire?
Nothing to do with that, this vacant place was used for child trafficking, store and distribution to different islands.
@@MarioR23 omfg! ...Seriously? ...now Another pier has gone up in flames..
When the reporter said Vacant restaurant that tells you all you need to know ! Either the homeless started it or maybe an insurance claim !
Maybe kids playing with matches or lighters. Maybe old wiring. Sunlight lensed onto wood or any chemical materials/containers that may have been left behind can be like bombs. I don't know the weather but lighting is an ignition source. Maybe old split metal clashing together creating sparks that fly onto a dust pile or paint chips.
So many causes but let us all think of homeless people whenever we see an abandoned structure and blame them. If every abandoned structure was filled with the homeless don't you think it would show a bit of humanity to show concern for their well-being and question why, if it were true, there should be so many living that way?
Tells you all that YOU need to know about it. Jump to conclusions much?
Exactly 🤨
This also happened in 1976 so it’s possible that it’s another insurance claim for federal money
@@strangeworldmasterjack143 I also mentioned the prejudice this comment makes concerning the homeless but my comment has strangely gone missing.
The author is basically comparing the destitute to corrupt business owners. That's autocratic fascism for ya. Especially as corrupt business owners get away with tonnes of crap in the US costing the public billions every year in lost revenue via tax cheats and faux insurance claims. One such battle is happening in NY right now. But apparently, homeless people are top of the list for causing damage. If that is how people think then they will never be help.
Why are they not using Cal Fire Helicopters to dump water
Good ?
One helicopter showed up about 50 mins after it began. They were not prepared for such a situation which is concerning and just too late😢 🤦🏻♀️
Become they want it to burn down
Those helicopters can't dump water over the ocean. It's illegal.
Unauthorized Inhabitants ????
🤦🏻♀️😂
My first thought too 🤔
Homeless are the fall guy for the crimes of the elite.
Majority of people stop thinking and stop asking questions immediately when homeless or unauthorized inhabitants is dropped.
that racisms crazy
@@wickedweiner4875 you must not live in California 🤣😂
OCEANSIDE IS IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY. THANK YOU
Says it all.
Half way to San Diego is Irvine . Oceanside is 25 minutes from San Diego. Bums were squatting in the abandoned "Ruby"s" restaurant. . of course. ...They were cooking noodles .
Hahahaha. Bums huh? Imagine that. This is what happens when nobody has anywhere to live because they've been priced out by an invasion of yuppy freaks. If you don't like your cities burning, you have to take care of them, including housing every last mental patient wandering the street.
My childhood😭 wow im from oside and this hurts so much. The pier is a big source of pride for us. Wow.
Was
It’s not vacant.. I did an install of chemical dispensers last summer along with the Brine Box kiosk restaurant next to it .. the kitchen was being used in the old Ruby’s just not open for patrons
Bro.. I work Lloyd Pest Control and brine box account I do it. Or at least I did… I have a new route I work now but I did brine box a few times. Crazy
But it's crazy because it doesn't look like the restaurant is even on fire. Just the pier.
@@carolemmett9385That’s an artifact of the pier being wooden, elevated, and having plenty of oxygen below. Most building fires don’t spread underneath like that because they essentially starve themselves of oxygen… but not on a wood pier.
@@carolemmett9385later on you could see the flames bursting out of the building from a destroyed roof panel, so it was definitely on fire throughout the inside of the building
It is so vacant!!
When will the homeless understand not to burn down the place they are living in. 🤦🏼♀️
Maybe they got paid to light the match
U crack me up I’m from Diego
Stop blaming the homeless.
There was flames on upper floor by the bigger fire boat
Insurance claim?
Curious if any damage to the pier itself can be prevented at all. We shall have to wait and see.
So sad
Anyone else think insurance fraud? I bet a nice restaurant is gonna open up there in a couple years
Yup all part of the Oceanside gentrification project. Building has been unoccupied for years for a reason.
And they will blame homeless so no questions are asked.
Jewish lighting a real possibility 🎉
@@OutWestRedDirtWell, I first became aware when my homeless niece and her boyfriend started uploading their own videos of it to TH-cam. They always hang out by the Oceanside beach pier.
@@kevinrice7635 WTF?!!! GET SOME HELP.
Live in Oceanside, can hear a bajillion helicopters overhead.
This one was no accident.
Under pier set on fire. i live here. ruby's out of business over one year. check who owns this property. insurance job.
Is such a wonderful place. I hope everyone is safe.
Arson
The level of incredibly stupid and opinionated people commenting on this video is astounding.
man, those fire boats aren't helping at all...
Used to live in Oceanside. I love that pier! Hope everyone is safe and no one was hurt on the pier. 🙏❤️ # Oceanside
They have an active restaurant there using their old kitchen called brine box
It's funny how politicians always need to let everyone know they are "closely following" the crisis. How about just stay out of the way and let the professionals handle it.
Looks like insurance claims???
Or the homeless or illegals were squatting
Same thing happened to another Ruby’s at the Huntington beach pier a few years back.
@@alopezjrInteresting....hmmm 🤔
Same thing happen to the one in Seal Beach CA
@@amd7574stfu get off the internet seek help
Same thing happen to the Ruby's dinner down at Seal Beach Pier. Insurance fraud ?
Blame the Democrats
Why isn't there a overhead air drop? You got water everywhere, and not one water bucket dump overhead?
I didn't know the restaurant was closed. They have a big fence that goes across the whole pier at the end, there when they're closed. I imagined if they were permanently closed the gate would have been closed.
was there last week and thinking about it you’re right, the building was just open and you could enter unimpeded… thought it was strange but now its even stranger 😭
Get San Diego harbor police boats down there they got excellent fire protection
Nope, they cant, still busy writing lifejacket citations
LA CIty Fire has several huge fireboats 2:13
been defunded and shut down ,get what you voted for
Far from la
@@toddredinger9493
Are you smoking crack??🤣🤡
How the hell is the pier fire so seemingly uniform.
its called a sea breeze and it usually happens in the day time next to the ocean because the sun is heating up the ground causing the air to heat up and rise and the colder more dense air from the ocean coming in to replace the rising air. that is why most airplane taking off from an airport next to the ocean will usually take off and land toward the ocean.
@@KevinS819 thank you!
Another ruby's. Another pier. Rather suspicious.
WHO THE HELL STARTED THIS ? ? ?
Theres been hundreds of these fires across our country in the last 7 years. Refineries, food processing plants large warehouse distribution forest fires. These are not coincidences.
Insurance?!
a perfect symbol of California
It was Hamas, students are protesting the seafood now, its Kosher.
Squatters bbq gone wild
The smoke is going back towards the beach due to afternoon on shore breezes Mr. Newsguy...duh...happens every day.
I used to walk here every weekend. The end of the pier was extremely windy, and cold. So it would usually blow back in this direction, towards the shore.
I am 86 yo. Have many memories fishing off the pier along with trips to the barge off shore .
Vacant??? Vacant restraunt? Catches fire??
Really doesn't matter if it is empty. It's going to be expensive to repair that pier.I remember eating there a long time ago
Can you say Zinsurance claim? Look for owner
city just spent $5million upgrading the electric and sewer on the pier
Hundred bucks says it’s insurance fraud
It's not a ruby's diner anymore :-( sad.... haven't been there in decades.
I was born on camp Pendleton back in 56 and grew up in Oceanside in the early 60s and 70s.
I went to Ditmar elementary school in the 60s
my friends and I used to hang around the pier and go halfway down it where there was a smoked fish shack that would always give us samples
An hour from Los Angeles to Oceanside - maybe 2 Hours by fireboats -they Arent that fast but high powered. 5:34 5:45
A forestry helicopter would be faster, and could just dunk and drop on spot.
are they just gonna let it burn down kinda like police chases over there
Wind blowing in right onto the Pier Very sad
Is this from a downed pole?? Or a rogue cargo ship??
smoke beyond the front of building....along front of pier?
My grandma lives around there
Is that the pier from Falling Down?! 😳
No
Fiery but mostly peaceful...
Tiny water canons to put out the fire? Fire Boats appear underpowered for this blaze.
The restaurant has been closed since Covid. Maybe old shorted cables, people smoking, insurance fraud, etc 🤷🏻♀️ it could be a plethora of things. I walked the pier this morning. Doesn’t seem they were prepared for such a situation. We had a fire in Carlsbad cove and the fire was put out quickly with little damage. Sad all around regardless 😢 Who cares what “representatives” say. How about ppl who actually live here?! 😢
FYI: Brine Box was a tiny little hut next to the old ruby’s diner restaurant. Look it up.
More steam than smoke, I would think. It's white, and there is a lot of water on the structure by now.
Usually there are people fishing from the pier
My old fishing haunt!
Air drops ????
A then-operating Ruby’s at Seal Beach Pier burnt down years ago too; and now this closed one burns.
That's my best fishing spot😢😢😢😢
The underneath part of the pier is what started burning. Crazy
another mysterious fire?
Right? People need to pay attention, these fires were not a regular occurrence before.
Smoke has nothing to do with the size of the 'fire'.
That is so sad. Sending prayers!🙏
Onshore breeze.
When is the state going to be held accountable for policies that encourage homeless encampments? How about using part of our $113 billion in tax revenue for free homeless housing and drug rehab?
Very interesting. The vacant Ruby's on the Seal Beach pier burned down in 2016. Suspicious.
The smoke is bellowing perfectly.
Wow, that's terrible. Ruby's restaurant was terrible too but we didn't want to see the Pier burn down
So who set that on fire????? And what is it distracting from?????
Insurance fraud??????????Arson????????
why do people assume it was an inside insurance fraud job? like when does that ever happen?
Can’t start a fire without a spark
This is what happens when you're state becomes filled with shuttered buildings.
All that water around should have been essentially an easy job. But with only 2 scrawny boats, This is pathetic! 😢
This place was burned down due, sorry I can't say it but this vacant restaurant was used as a house to store and move something alive.
The pier is city property and the restaurant building is likely to be also. The whole thing is made of wood and is old. The electrical system could be corroded by the salt spray and is probably the cause of the fire.
I'm so glad the law makers called in, I can sleep tonight.
Suspicious 🤨 hmmm 🧐
Wow, I used to eat at Ruby’s.
This is a waste when are they going to arrest who ever started this fire ? Being born and raised in California this is sad. I left California in the 1994 but lived in Simi Valley and other places I can say that it's not the California I grew up in I also had both my daughters one in 1978 and the other in 1980 they were born on the same day two years apart and they have never been back.
Wow, good memories not lost in the fire or smoke. The Good News is Wonderful....everything can be rebuilt or repaired.
I'm glad I filmed this a couple times to preserve history
What, did they have an American flag up that they needed to dispose of?
Nah, just time to leave Cali thanking the Gov on the way out.
Where do the gas line run to this restaurant? Under the pier or would it have a large propane tank? Or, it's all electric?
Does this structure even have an adequate functioning fire sprinkler system? my guess is no. They should have tore it down before this happened. Now they are going to have close at least part of this dock.
What’s up with this boat. Is it under attack? Strange things are happening. Fire on water. Whaaaaaat!
I spent a lot of my childhood playing and fishing on that pier.
This reporter is out to lunch. so wacky & not informed. Terrible reporting.
Mite as well forget about that building those boats won't put that fire out what a joke
some days are diamonds and some days are stones.
Does it matter anymore than What’s left of California???
It looks like the pier is on fire?
well at least they won’t run out of water 😊
Back in November 23, 1998, we were at the The Pier in Santa Barbara's Historic Stearn's Wharf around 2:00pm. We left the Pier and drove home to Murrieta Ca about 2 hours south of Santa Barbara. When We got home and turned on the news, they were reporting that the same pier were we had just been at had burned down! Talk about weird! We started to wonder if we didn't have something to do with it! lol
?
🙄
Looks suspicious the way it is smoldering... I'd suspect arson to the pier.
Breaks my heart
only 2 small single hose boats for a full blown pier fire?... this won't turn out well... they appear to be trying to just save the pier pylons... and that wind will totally spread that fire down the pier if it catches...
