Oceanside mayor says the city is 100% committed to rebuilding historic pier damaged by fire

- Tourists and locals captured images of the iconic Oceanside Pier Friday, one day after a devastating blaze erupted at the end of the structure.
"We were in the middle of actually re-doing the concrete part," said Mayor Esther Sanchez. "That's like a $40 million dollar project. To have this happen, we're all brokenhearted."
She said she's already gotten calls from state and federal leaders, offering their support in rebuilding the pier.
Friday firefighters remained at the scene, watering down hot spots. The fire appears to have started in the old Ruby's Diner. So far, investigators have not determined what sparked the fire. The ATF is assisting in the investigation.
Oceanside Fire Chief David Parsons said fire crews from multiple agencies worked through the night and were able to save 90% of the pier.

There you go she just said it the building wasn't vacant the kitchen was being used by the Brine box. The residents of Oceanside didn't even know the kitchen was being used most of us thought the building was vacant now it's starting to make sense.
I used to run that pier and enjoy the wind in my face and I was thinking about it today. I'm so sad.

Especially with those four star hotels located right on the beach front looking at a burned out carcass of a pier….nope it will be rebuilt. Honestly more curious of the cause….pier timber is very thick and soaked with creosote…hard to get started
If you didn’t notice the building was on fire. Not the pier. The pier actually seems to be entirely un damaged.
FYI the TFR that's published on the FAA website is not over the pier, it's about 17 miles to the WNW and only 2NM across (NOTAM 4/5768)

The brine box was using the kitchen😮 there's a potentially big clue as to how this fire got started
Oh Jesus,, that might explain it! The fire happened around 3pm. So the homeless or squatters living in there (if there were any there) would not do that because people would have seen them running out of the building. So if the Brine Box was using the kitchen, they were probably cooking something and left the stove unattended as they were making sales in their booth outside the Ruby's building. Could it be a classic grease fire that got out of control?
im actually okay with you not rebuilding that pier so you can use that money to fight illegal immigration.
Why not take care of the homeless before you go building playgrounds for adults.
