    She’s one of my favorite princes because she doesn’t demand worship, you have to earn her respect. Karliah said it best when she compared Nocturnal to a mother, she’s not one to baby her worshipers because that won’t make you a better thief. What makes you a better thief is trial and error. And, of course, Lady Luck.

    If she really wanted to, she could very easily get her artifacts back. I think she finds amusement in the pride of thieves when they steal from her, even though she can get them back so easily.
    A running joke so to speak.
    Also, I don't think there is a true darkness in regards to Namira and Nocturnal. They're both valid. Namira encases your body in darkness and decay, while Nocturnal encases your soul to eternal darkness. In my opinion, there isn't just one true darkness, both are valid, depending on who you worship.

    I wonder what connection might exist between Azura and Nocturnal.
    Nocturnal has, among her titles, this one: 'Daughter of the Twilight.'
    Azura is the Daedric Prince of Dawn and Dusk. Twilight is *her* sphere. The term comes up repeatedly in the lore about her. One can only approach her shrine in the twilight.
    Azura has a funny idea about fate. It is foretold but it is not unchangeable. In fact, she herself struggles and plots to change its course. She is most unlike the Greek Morai - Chlotho the spinner of threads, Lachesis who cuts them, and Atropos the Inflexible. There is no avoiding the Greek Fates, but Azura operates quite differently. She *influences.* And when she is displeased at what mortals do, she bides her time and works behind the scenes, plotting schemes with fateful - but uncertain - conclusions. If she gets the result she wants, as when the Nereverine ended Dagoth Ur and the Trinity gods, all of whom disobeyed her, she is pleased.
    Pleasure in an outcome isn't even possible if it is set in advance.
    One might argue that Azura *needs* Nocturnal. Nocturnal injects luck, both good and bad, into Mundus. Nocturnal shakes things up, adds randomness, prevents certainty. And she operates within the Twilight - which is Azura's sphere.
    We don't often hear tales of the Daedric Princes reproducing, producing sons or daughters, but I think there's a case to be made that Nocturnal is indeed the daughter of Azura. (It's impossible to guess if Azura would need a mate to create a daughter, or not.)
    Jyggalag (order) and Hermaeus Mora (knowledge, fate), if they had their way, would lock down everything into complete stasis, making all things knowable, past, present and future. (Not to mention, drained of all vitality. Dead.) Azura opposes them. Nocturnal is Azura's ally in this contest of wills. To judge from the history of Mundus, they're on a winning streak.

    11:30... for if she 'were'.
    'If' makes the topic under discussion a hypothetical, and a hypothetical about an individual (female?) - a third person singular, requires 'were' not 'was'.
    Think of 'What Would Brian Boitano Do' from the film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. In its first sentence it uses 'was' where 'were' was needed, but later redeems itself somewhat by properly iterating 'were' in a hypothetical.

    The idea of a pact with Noc Noc sounds interesting, until the undetermined time of servitude at the Sepulcre, posteriorly, becoming a useless shadow.
    The Dread Father's posthmous proposal is a lot better.
    To be enshrouded in The Void, conscient, with the chance to return and do what got you there, first and foremost, is quite good. Conditional immortality.
    Boethiah is also an alternative. She got me with the: "As you will it, so it shall be", despite being a reference to Crowley (it's a game, so, I'll let it pass).
    Although, nothing is mentioned about her followers going to her realm, just a "Tablet of Absolute Darkness".
    If they really go there, certainly, it isn't a pleasant place.
    Malacath is a solid option, since his after life proposal is quite pleasant, to say the least, but, his strength is questionable.
    So, in the case of an invasion and a defeat, you're done.
    Mehrunes Dagon, as far as I know, doesn't have mortal souls in his realm, but, I might be mistaken.
    We don't know how the Dremora are created, if they're a species like us or are mass fabricated by Dagon, using the mortal souls of his followers.
    I wouldn't like to end as such, k... However, if you earn his respect and going to his realm is a thing, you might become his champion there.
    The idea of ordering Dremora Lords forever is free entertainment, I would love it.
    Theodor Gorlash isn't good enough, if you're not mad enough. Joker level, at minimum.
    The only paradises in Skyrim are Sovngarde and Azura's realm. So, living as a warlord and dying like one is the best option.
    Azura is weird to me, but, if you wanna live like a decent commoner and end up in a beautiful place, she is the option.
    I believe that to really go to The Void, you must be assassinated by a Dark Brotherhood member. Otherwise, no Void, which is good. Being the Listener or not, I want Sovngarde.

    • @Aschariel
      @Aschariel ปีที่แล้ว

      Vaermina is completely unknown to me, Namira too, Sanguine is for the ultimate fornicators (not me), Clavivi doesn't seem to offer anything, Hircine is good, if you enjoy being an oversized dog, Molag Bal NEVER. Last, but not least: Hermaeus Mora (I don't know any other princes).
      He is, without question, my favorite prince. Unfortunately, as far as I know, his Apocrypha can't be accessed by the dead, and that's his only ream, so far.
      If I had to choose between Dagon and the good ol' Herma Mora, I would choose Hermaeus, obviously.
      It doesn't look like (sarcasm), but, I enjoy communicating, asking questions, gathering knowledge and becoming powerful, like he does.
      The idea of spending the eternity talking to The Guardian of The Unseen and Knower of The Unknown is quite delightful.
      Hermaeus Mora has an orgasm inducing voice, which is something very important, and is extremely polite, educated to his core, which is essential.
      So, endless years of knowledge at his Apocrypha + his knowledge is like an eternity of amusement. Knowledge that certainly contains the secret of immortality, resurrection, which is priceless.
      Anyway, I don't need to concern myself with that, thanks to Molag Bal and Harkon, k...
      Harkon's philosophy is mine, as well, concerning TIME.
      Time is the undefeatable boss of every rational mortal. Weakness is a sin, being powerful is a must, overcoming time is impossible.
      Gracefully, The Omnipotent exists. If it wasn't for Him, I would be doomed.

The thieves guild don't even care about nocturnal. In the shadows guild I could see a guild who does their own thing runs and walks in shadows.they steal but for them selves not for a guild.the shadows guild would be more like a worship family for nocturnal but not same way like the priests and priestess like in the temples. The shadows guild wouldn't be called a guild but they still do own thing. They remain in shadows instead of trying to be known like the thieves guild and try to control people.The shadows guild I think it would if they do own thing where they help others but also steal others as well but steal from the underworld like if the beings in the underworld were planning things in the human world we can steal from them to mess their plains up.I cant stand thieves guild they more like high class bandits that dont kill th er or enemies.I do not like how they talk to everyone.

      @themadhattress5008 6 ปีที่แล้ว +241

      Well, if you've the luck and skill and aptitude to steal from a Daedric Prince, perhaps you deserve the spoils you've acquired. Besides, I feel like Nocturnal simply allows mortals to just "borrow" her artefacts. She can always recover them when the individual who stole or otherwise obtained them dies. But with the Skeleton Key's theft in TES5, I believe that was a case in which Nocturnal didn't approve of the theft. She knew what kind of person Mercer was and knew it shouldn't be in his hands.

    • @quazznorm1777
      @quazznorm1777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +112

      I always though it was her way of testing if you're worthy of her artifact. Normally in order to acquire an artifact from a deadric prince one must pass whatever task they give you. And for the most part it usually corresponds to said deadras sphere. So considering Nocturnals sphere and associations it would make sense. The way I see it each deadra has a champion. And each different deadra looks for different qualities in their champion. In order to be Nocturnals champion/nightingale you not only need to have exceptional skill as a thief, but you also need to have a certain degree of ballsines and ambition. So what better way to pick a candidate then to wait for someone skilled and ballsy enough to steal from Nocturnal herself. That's why Mercer wasn't worthy of the skeleton key. He had skill and ambition. But what he did was absolutely cowardly.

      I think it one of two things could happen (this is my opinion only):
      1 - It would probably cause a chain reaction that would restart the "entity" of Nocturnal. Kinda like a reboot for the Deadric Prince and her realm. The way this would work would be a process similar to Sheogorath and The Hero of Kvatch, a "mantling". Because it's impossible to know Nocturnal as only Nocturnal knows her own mysteries, then the one who used the key, would become the new Nocturnal.
      2 - The mortal who used the key would explode with the knowledge of every single of nocturnal's secrets, unable to deal with so much information.

Like it could be used to open the portal to Sovngarde or the Soul Cairn, and to open all the puzzle doors (since we see Mercer Frey unlock one of these, iirc). And potentially game-breaking, they could make it open all the locks that normally require a specific key and can't be lockpicked. Even the Dwemer Lock Box in Hermaeus Mora's quest should be opened with the Skeleton Key. All in all, this would really just let you skip portions of quests and wouldn't be the most fun thing if you were meant to keep it, but if you could get a taste of its power before you return it then that would be really cool.

In short, all dedric entities represent Padomay in some form, and so do they aedra, to a lesser extent. While Namira may have more in common with Sithis, what Nocturnal's name means is that she was the first of the Daedra to take form, and also symbolizes her, as daedra are nothing more than their sphere of influence allows. For instance, if you were to ask a daedra what Molag Bal's true name is they'd say Stone-fire, which is more or less symbolism for his sphere of influence, but taken in the literal form makes no fucking sense

Of course, Aldmeri history states that the difference between daedra and aedra is whether or not they were ancestors to them, however, the humans and khajiit also refer to the aedra as such, despite their ancestor being Lorkhan/Lorkhaj.

The way you tell a story that isn’t your own is a talent and I mean this sincerely; it’s easy to embellish facts and push the envelope of what facts can be said about a Prince who specializes in being unidentifiable and yet you use the right words and pacing and plotting to make the tale as comprehensible and as factual as possible.
    Thank you, I just finished my Thieves Guild quest line (not the first time, but it’s been literally years) and I enjoyed hearing about the Daedric Prince I just pledged my character’s life to.
    I just wonder who’s going to get my services... Hircine? Namira? Malacath (I’m an orc)? Nocturnal? Molag Bal? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe it’ll be fuckin Talos lol

    "The Skeleton Key can unlock not only any physical lock but ethereal and metaphysical locks, portals, etc. And it cannot be broken by known means."
    So, it's basically a keyblade in all aspects expect dispelling darkness and being used as literal weapon? I'm pretty sure the parallel between them is completely unrelated but is funny how similar they are.

    Sorry for spoiling the mood, but amount of misconceptions you've made is almost offending. "Ur-Dra" doesn't mean "First Darkness" or "Original Daedra". It should be translated as "First/Supreme Ancestor".
    Now quick lesson of Ayleidoon. Ur is morphene defining primacy. Adamantine Tower, first and most important Tower, was called Ur Tower. Voryn Dagoth, head of fallen House Dagoth, was better know as Dagoth Ur. And for Dra... as we know "Daedra" mean "Not Our Ancestors", while "Aedra" mean "Our Ancestors". So "D-" is equal to "non-". "Ae" is used in loretext with multiple meanings, but here it's "our". So for "Dra" only "Ancestor" left.
    Now why is she called that way? Clearly it's not mortal misconception, therefore, some of well informed individuals caled her that way. It would be psijiic sage Lilatha and living god of knowledge Sotha Sil. Believe me, they know what they are saying. Oh, and Xan is stating that this title is accorded by nearly all of Oblivion Royalty. In fact, that title never was thrown by mortal. It was always connected to something bigger.
    Also, first persona gave us possible explanation why "Ur-Dra": "The Night Mistress is Ur-dra - perhaps the eldest and most powerful of the Daedric Princes.", which clicks perfectly with Xan's "As the mother of night, she claims to be an aspect of the original Void itself, (...)". Maybe her domain isn't synonymous with Void itself, but it's derrived directly from it, what makes her one of eldest and most powerful et'Ada.
    As for Namira, I believe you overinterpreted "sphere of ancient darkness", which was more symbolic than factual. I believe it was derrivered from Khajiit nickname of "Great Darkness", as they called her. And as for it, in context of Maw of Lorkhaj it was more about negative/evil influence than controlling night itself. In fact, none of her words or actions hinted us into thinking she have power over darkness. She's all about decay and that's ain't old domain. In fact it was formed only after Lorkhan's demise. So it makes her one of the youngest Princes. Also decay doesn't lead to nothingness. It's more of reusing physical elements in cycle of life and death.
    As for worshipping Nocturnal, here you're also wrong. Xan mentioned prayers. In ESO Hagravens and Tundilwen were clearly her cultist. What's left? Skeleton Key? Opening metaphysical locks isn't unimaginable. In fact, we saw great example of that power. In CWC Nocturnal almost dettached Sotha Sil from his Realm with it.

    The only prince who actually seems to be similar to the mortals of tamirel...mmm that makes me think that she is probably the only daedric prince who isn't entirely evil, but is merely an adera who didn't involve herself with the creation of mundus.

      You are right about that... after all the term Deadra is elven for "Not our ancestors". Therefore it does not mean a deadra is necessarily evil. Also Meridia was once one of the magnugui

    Everyday i wake up hoping for another fudgemuppet livestream, and every day i go to sleep drenched in sadness. I pray to the nine, yet my prayers were never answered. So, i resorted to daedric rituals, still, nothing. I then started a cult around the muppets, we worship them day and night. Center of the shrine is Drew's beautiful face, and below it, a list of all his underrated jokes. To the left is scott, and a single strand of his foxxy hair. The the right is michael, and a list of all the sick burns he gave drew. The Father (Scott), The Son (Michael), and the Holy Spirit (Drew). Im hoping my praising will manifest into the energy they need to stream again....

    If the Thieves Guild most skilled members were Nocturnals, daedra worshippers and Champions of Daedra; then wouldn’t the Vigil of Stendarr want to remove the thieves guild to stop people who would be help Nocturnal?

    • @trainman5675
      @trainman5675 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we'll it's not the same kind of worship. So it's harder to find. Plus the fact is the nightingales were legends even in the guild until the theives guild plot line. And the specifics of that were kept between a very small group of people. So they would want the nightingales yes. But it would take finding out about them first

    The incapability to truly know and understand Nocturnal, is what makes her so beautiful. Woe to those within the series and lore, who try and take that away from this utterly captivating Daedric Prince. And honor and glory to those, like the Nightingales, that try to defend that.

    This is all unnecessary speculation. I can tell you what Nocturnal is and invite you to play TESO Summerset. Nocturnal is evil, incredibly powerful and a great blinder. And yes, according to herself, she is the first Daedra and was there even before the lesser princes like Mephala came to be. You are right with your title, that she is misunderstood. That is because she is not that mortal cherishing patrion. She is a wicked and evil goddess and none should worship her. She is not what she seems.
