      When the Kalpa ends, the mortal realm is completely reset (including the souls). So the Dragons would naturally come back anyway. All Souls are small fragments of the Original Soul. Akatosh was born from the Original Soul and all dragons are small pieces of Akatosh. But when the World resets, we don't know exactly what it will turn into... the primary theory right now is that Peryite will replace Akatosh as King of the Gods.

      @Jonas_æ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Michael Dobbin
      Dragons (or dragon souls to be more precise) are broken-off pieces of the oversoul of the time soul/ god (Aka). They are individual shards of a whole that is not whole.
      Idk what happens when a dragon soul is absorbed, but I interpret it as the individual time-aspect (the dragon-soul) being either mantled or joined by another (the Dragonborn), rather than them ascending to Aetherius.
      As for the reincarnation theory, I don’t think that’s it. Different Dragonborn with different motivations have existed, even at the same time (although time may not matter due to the nature of them being time-aspects).
      I interpret it as if Akatosh as an aspect of the time god breaks small pieces of either his aspect or of the oversoul itself and lets them inhabit the body of the Dragonborns.

    • @MaliciousMollusc
      @MaliciousMollusc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It can't be the same soul because dragon blood can literally be granted like a blessing.

    • @Toni-lo9ms
      @Toni-lo9ms 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Jonas_æ Always liked that theory. I'd go even a bit further, however. I see being Dragonborn as Alessia and the others with the dragon blood from the pact with Akatosh were and being The Dragonborn, who has the soul of a dragon, is a category all their own i.m.o. Perhaps dragons and standard Dragonborn posess shards of Akatosh's soul, and THE Dragonborn is born of a shard of the oversoul directly? It would be granted to correct Alduin's abandonment of his role since I would argue Alduin is an aspect of Akatosh and therefore it would require a true demigod to defeat him.

    Whenever a dragon absorbs the soul of another dragon, it's consolidating Akatosh's power. Theoretically, once one dragon (or dragonborn) has absorbed the souls of every other dragon, that being will _be_ Akatosh, or at the very least, capable of Mantling him.

    • @kenaidip2504
      @kenaidip2504 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand, totally layman but, a kalpa is basically just a giant reset. So the gods would stick around but everything would be reset pre-mundus. And the roles of the Aedra and Daedra could shift. For example, Perite could go from least powerful to most powerful. Avarti has a good video on kalpa's.

    • @Alizudo
      @Alizudo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The end of a Kalpa simply means Mundus goes away. Since time as we know it is unique to Mundus, Oblivion and Aetherius do not change after the Kalpa ends. BUT, as far as we know, the world also ALWAYS reforms, so the Gods still can't escape back to Aetherius. Which is another reason why they were so pissed off at Lorkhan.

    An ideea just hit me hearing you, if Akatosh can bestow the gift of dragonborn on any individual as a whim perhaps the duty/ability of world eater can be bestowed the same on another, maybe Parthurnax will become the world eater at the end of time, regardless if you kill him or not in Skyrim, or another worthy dragon, Now that the dragonborn has the strongest Thum after defeating Alduin he shape the dragons into the ways of the old not being the tyrannical rules that they were under Alduin but a new milder version of cohabitants with the rest of Tamriel - my dream is that when the TSaeci will invade we will have dragon riders fighting in the great army of the Tamriel.

      Forest You have to admit that ESO has a habit butchering ES lore and creates inconsistency in lore that has been set and recognised. For example; The only reason dragons made a return in elsweyr was to get a casual fanbase back to eso. Alduins Wall never prophesied Kalgrontiid or the planemeld or any of the events in ESO for that matter. And that was built by the Akavir before the 2nd era.

    • @HL5IHarrier
      @HL5IHarrier 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forest im not saying it isn’t lore obviously I’m just pointing out inconsistencies and huge chunks of new lore the game brings that contradicts with lore already set within the ES time frame

    • @ForestX77
      @ForestX77 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HL5IHarrier that is the thing though each new entry in any seris is gonna change establish lore and tes is no different. Skyrim it self mucked lore up such as the Blades. Before Skyrim the blades as we knew them where the secret service for the emperor empress every game since daggerfall told us that. Then came skyrim and it was all wrong the blades been dragon hunters all along and only served the emperor empress cause they where dragonborns not cause loyalty.
      Like there was so much lore skyrim chnaged yet it gets no flak what so ever but eso gets it all the flak because a chicken that becomes jarl of riften instead of a cow as told in skyrim.

    What an informative video, finally a complete-feeling summary of the lore behind the dragons in the Elder Scrolls. I've watched many of your lore vids and this has to be one of my favorites. Thinking of them as Aedra manifesting themselves in Mundus for some reason makes them ten times cooler, as I never really understood before where they lay in terms of power and influence among the Daedra and divines. I really wish we got to explore the Merethic era and its events more, the Dragon War especially. Additionally, I wonder if the dragons, the Ehlnofey and the Hist are fundamentally connected in some way, given that all three of these beings were present in the Dawn Era and have such divine niches to fulfill in the flow of future events on Nirn. Some kind of distant connection there would be really fascinating.

    Fascinating work condensing the dragon lore in a wonderful guide, as always. Thank you again and everyone at Fudgemuppet. I only wish you would delve into the realm of the unknown and explored theories of your own. When you look at the how Lorkhain and Akatosh created Mundus it appears similar to other realms of oblivion however this is a realm that has had the immortal energies that connects all in Oblvion together, severed. In Oblivion where the world is shaped by even the simplest of lifeforms who are as immortal as they are amorphous. With this energy separated, magic is still accessible and instead of the immortal spirit reforming it's physical vessel like a Daedra's Animus, instead these souls of the mortal races ascend to the realm of pure mysticism which is shaped by the various beliefs of the now mortal races. The races of Mer clearly evolved from the "Aedra" who were just powerful Daedra whom had lost their divine immortality and evolved into mortal Mer after Mundus was created. The most powerful of these Aedra were able to use the heart of Lorkhain to finish constructing the realm then used it to become pure energy. The raw forces of energy that can be accessed by its followers, in other words, the Divines.
    Then you have dragons, immortal conduits of energy whose immortality has failed to have been separated from their physical vessels. Even after being slain, the soul of a dragon does not ascend and therefore any can be resurrected unless their immortal energy is absorbed and therefore assimilates into another. The dragon god of time, Akatosh and his connection to time's conclusion by the jaws of Alduin. Perhaps both are aspects that were separated from Auriel when he transcended, ignoring the potential dragon break's influence. Dragons are the closest thing Mundus has to immortal Daedra and it has been shown how these creatures can venture into other realms of oblivion and become a part of those realms like other Daedra who dwell in new realms of Oblivion. Their artifacts like Goldbrand was even claimed by a Daedra Prince.The only hole is that if the Daedra had became the Aedra who evolved into the various races of Mer, then how were the dragons born? Maybe the power the immortality itself, became personified in its patron deities form. Did the act of Auriel becoming the god of this realm of oblivion create the race of dragons? I don't even think the writers at Bethesda know this.
