Putting 20 minutes will show the extra Sephiroth scene at the end of tge demo.If you put 30 min it will not.Sort of like a little secret within the demo which was awesome!
Yeah...gotta keep switching between cloud and barret to keep ATB filling quickly on both to slap a pair of spells and still have ATB to heal or use a thrust with cloud to quickly build stagger
lol, its funny, because I did find this boss challenging... challenging in my sense. But I killed him easily. I didn't even block, I screwed up on time and didn't have Barret hide behind the laser barrier, and yet I still didn't use nearly that many potions or even a phoenix down. This was on normal difficulty too.
Saaaaame. The new battle system is tough to get used to and is a little confusing. I literally didnt know you could block until talking to my buddy afterwards.
It will probably be faster, cause Square said they're not currently interested in next-gen graphics, and due to PS5's full backwards compatibility they can just use the same engine again. So it will likely take about as long as a FF14 expansion pack, maybe a bit longer.
@@EvilM0nkeyRules If they were going to do that, they wouldn't have remade it at all. They've said repeatedly that they weren't going to remake it unless they could do more with the game. Considering how big the original is, and how much was cut even from that, I'm not bothered by the multiple games plan. There is a ton of supplementary material and spin-offs that will likely be incorporated into this remake that I'll be a bit surprised if it does turn out to be just three games.
Remember that Wedge falls from the equivalent of like the tenth floor of an apartment, and he still somehow didn't die on impact. So my question is that is he gonna die on impact? Or is his... Rotundness save him.
@@Sivrn-Val Physics seems to work differently in Midgar than it does IRL, so maybe that sort of drop doesn't immediately kill (though there have been reports of some who have fallen even further and still survived).
@@Sivrn-Val Well, even just in the demo, a massive piece of concrete falls on jessie's leg. She just stands up and is bouncing around. Wouldn't surprise me if he lives long enough to have some dying words.
@@not2shabby I know its way down the line, but I'm seriously gotdamn excited to see what Sephiroth's meteor looks like. As a kid, back when 3d was being introduced that and OoT's Ganondorf's transformation (and fight) to Ganon are seriously some of the coolest shiz I've saw in my life. Ganon sticks out to me because I had barely beat A Link to the past and seing him in 3d blew my mind. Lol
As far as the difficulty goes, I'm super glad that for once the "normal" difficulty actually provides a decent challenge. I don't like games that are on auto pilot for normal, but then become a frustrating, bashing my head into a wall experience when bumping up to an over the top hard mode. So many games today have lost a smooth difficulty curve for those of us that don't want everything they play to be Dark Souls masochism, but want something that is a challenge when appropriate. Boss fights should be hard, and if you do want something that is relaxing that's what easy is for. I'm just glad "normal" seems like it will have its tough moments without being overbearing.
I’ve been playing the original FF7 for the first time because of this remake. I remember wanting to explore more of Midgar after leaving and so I’m not at all upset about the idea of a 50+ hour experience set in this incredible city!
I've been replaying it myself in anticipation, too. The last time I played was in my teens, and now I'm at least ten years old and wiser about JRPGs. I almost beat the game the first time back when, but the last dungeon was a real struggle, and I had trouble consistently getting to the final battles. ;-;
Update us! How's that playthrough going, what are your thoughts? Are you suuuureee you want to play the old one before playing the new one? What do ya think so far.
It’s been a few days since I last picked up the game but I left off with Cloud having left my party and me gaining control of the airship. I’m glad that I’ve never had the story fully spoilt for me as the twists are actually leaving me a bit stunned at times. I think it was still wise for me to play the original before the remake just because I played the demo on PS4 and I felt I got way more out of it than I would’ve done going in blind. I also feel like I could play the remake now seeing as I know it only goes through the Midgar section and still return to the original later on if I haven’t finished by the time of release. Aeris’s death hurt me way more than I thought it would! I knew that spoiler (wasn’t any way of me not knowing that one) and yet I still felt the pain of losing her. That right there is a testament to the staying power of this classic....I also really miss healing wind!
I've been trying to see as little of this game as much as possible to get the freshest experience possible. I finally broke, From what I'm seeing this is gonna be a fun ride. Thanks for the review, I know you love this IP as much as me!
The Midgar section of the game can really be its own game for how the story revolving it can stand on its own, so I'm fine with that. I hope they make it possible to set the bomb timer to 10 minutes~
The best part so far is that each character is actually substantially different, and there are good reasons to pick certain characters over others situationally.
Something i'm noticing with a lot of the gameplay that's being show from the extended demo is that the buster sword has a small fire effect, which probably has something to do with Element Materia. its a nice touch
the character expansion for biggs, wedge and jessie will make my heart come to a SCREECHING halt when we have to run up that tower to fight reno... if i thought that shit was hard at 10 years old... we aint seen nothin yet
I personally love it but I also fear that a bunch of skewed expectations from the larger gaming community are gonna damper the game's overall reception. There are STILL people who can't get behind the fact that this remake is only Midgar, and assuming SquareEnix is milking us out. To me, this PS1-to-PS4 remake is borderline medium-to-medium adaptation, like a book to a movie trilogy. The differences are so vast that the creators have to rework the pacing of the entire adventure, not to mention budget and resources. It's been done before after all. Game of Thrones Season 3 was only 1st half of the 3rd book....Stephen King's IT was split into 2 films, and Harry Potter Deathly Hallows was split into 2 films as well.
The model is not as much a cash grab as the only viable model to make this game into what they want without spending years on development and not getting anything in return. Think about it, it took them 5+ years to get here. Releasing the whole story in one could take them 10+ years in total if you include the 5 years from before. That's a lot of time and money for something you might not get back. Have you seen the credits on Square games? They roll for like 30 minutes. You have to pay all those people over 10 years. Their model, albeit unconventional let's them release at least 3 games without needing to reinvent the wheel every time. Yes it's a cash grab, to give everyone what they want, without this model you can be sure they would either give is mediocre or nothing. Did no one see what happened to FF15 and KH3? FF15 got reworked and shipped before finish cause of "TIME", and at the end we got some DLC but apparently it didn't get finished, we just got a couple of short story books to finish it for us. Is that what people want? To get books at the end or a title that says we should play the original for the full story? KH3 got stuck in development hell for so long that it affected development and reception of the game. Point is, developers have time restraints on them, they can't develop forever and give us what we want without funds. And this model cuts out the time restraint so they can polish smaller sections of a big game world. We get a better game, and they get their funds to keep going. I see no problem with this if I get my 50+ hour game.
And for those same people, they forget that the original was split up by 3 disks. I'm sure the game will be priced accordingly, even if its 40 to 50 bucks per chapter. I mean if the quality of the fucking demo is anything to go by, I'd gladly shell out 60 bucks for a quality game.
There's also a metric ton of supplementary material and even cut content from the original they'll now be able to explore in-game. Some of the cut content included Red XIII focused quests and pretty much everything about Vincent. There's also the retconned material from the spin-offs, like Yuffie and Zack being frienemies; how is she going to react to Cloud having the Buster Sword? Of course, this is all post-Midgar stuff, but there is still plenty of room for more in-depth looks in Midgar that we only got to see a little of in _Crisis Core_ and the like.
One of my favorite bits of polish is that you can open chests from any angle and Cloud will lean over in the direction of the chest and open it instead of just playing a single static "chest opening" animation.
Loved the video! First impressions are awesome when it comes from a content creator you like and respect! The demo floored me and my expectations were shattered, and thats with playing the demo at PAX West, i cannot wait for this game dude! Keep up the good work dude!
I don't know if this is true but I read an article somewhere that if you pick 30 minutes instead of 20 in the demo you don't get the end preview of Sephiroth. Also, I love the demo so much, can't wait for the final product.
Yep! This is true. I didn't know what to pick so I just hit 30. I didn't get that preview of Sephiroth at the end so NOW I'm gonna replay the demo. Just for that
In fact, unless you want to take a good deal of damage and time, its the best way to fight the shock troopers at the end since they dodge and deal a decent amount of damage. You just go into punisher and block, waiting to counter them.
@Otacon464 And it automatically switches you back to Operator mode if you try to block ranged and magic. You can't block those types of attacks and remain in Punisher mode.
@Otacon464 In Operator mode, yes. You literally can't in Punisher mode though, it switches you so you have to reactivate Punisher again if you want to use it. You can't block ranged or magic and stay in Punisher mode.
I'm just glad she looked armored in this version! Her design was cool but the overworld polygons didn't do her justice. Here though, she looks both cute and a veritable badass, and probs lifted her armor plating from a Shinra troop or something.
This was a great video. At first I was like well it’s another remake. I might get it later on when it’s on sell but now things have changed. After playing the demo I went out and preordered the Deluxe Edition. I can’t wait tell April get here so I can start playing the game. I’ve haven’t been this excited for a game since Borderlands 3 and Zelda Breath of the Wild. Can’t wait. FYI I’ve played the Demo 4 times already
The demo helped me understand the "NEW" action game. The action combat is fine while grinding, but it's a HOT MESS when needing to pull off multiple moves, for multiple characters, in the boss battle. Classic mode was a much better combat style in my opinion. I do not want this game parceled out in pieces, so I will not be spending any money until it is all published to the public.
I love how the boss was an actual challange. Played the demo 3 times now and i've gotten better at the fight each time. I'm over the moon that they turned tutorial bosses i to actual spectacles that leave room for mastering.
@Edwin C. "Attack, switch characters, use Barret's Cure", thats not how you fight the scorpion. How Long did you take?? I took less than 5 minutes and thats because the gameplay system actually shares some skill and tactic that you won't discover through your first playthrough. And it definitely is difficult, way more challenging than any final fantasy before at least.
Dope vid super hype!!! I remember playing the original demo billions of times before the game dropped and now playing this demo with the stupidest of grins on my face I know that nostalgia isn't the only thing driving my hype for it!!
I have not been this excited for a game in YEARS. It took _effort_ for me to stay focused at work that day. I woke up and was getting ready when I saw on Twitter that the demo was now available for use plebs to play and immediately went to the PS Store to start the download.
@Edwin C. No, I'm someone what isn't ashamed to admit that a piece of art moved me. Maybe you should talk to a therapist about your obsession with suppressing your emotions, kid. When you grow up and become a real adult, let me know.
4:01 Glad you mentioned it, I was thinking to myself as I played the demo of how similar it felt (gameplay-wise) to FF 13 Lightning Returns. Looked it up, and it turns out one of the directors for the FF 7 remake project was the director for LR, Motomu Toriyama. Side point, but when i first played LR in 2014, it absolutely felt like the game I would want 7 remake to be (this was also in part to using cloud's buster sword and SOLDIER uniform for a majority of the game), so it's both funny and fitting that the two games shared directors.
I loved the demo like everyone else and yeah, i agree: there is a lot from other Square enix's titles here, but the most notably for me is the influence on KH mechanics, obviously nomura been the director and all that. But there is one mechanic that i absolutely love and i haven't seen many people mention it, that is the shortcuts mechanics, straight out KH! you can customize your commands and items and even limit brakes, so the pace can be fluent and more action oriented. I like the way you can manually choose things and slow time and that, but is a nice touch to also have the choice of shortcuts to make fights and boss encounters more agile and dinamic
Honestly I've only ever played the original KH, and when they first unveiled the game's action-RPG mechanics I thought, "This is like Kingdom Hearts. Huh".
@11:18 that was my favorite part as well. I actually love games more difficult and more things to do and combo with. The boss fight makes you feel like you need to do everything you can to try and beat it. Thats actually what keeps me interested in games like this. loved your review too btw. great stuff
8:50 In the demo, from my experience, if you linger by certain areas or go back (accidentally) some enemies will reappear. 11:15 I really guess each demo is different from everyone, due to me lingering in some areas, the enemies that reappeared gave me a total of 24 or 27 potions - much more than what other videos of playthroughs about it; the videos all shows that the player only had around 8 to 14 potions. I am playing in "Normal" setting.
I’ve missed out on FF7 on the original PSOne because I’ve never heard of it and die to the fact I was 5 back in 1999 when I’ve got a PlayStation. After playing the demo, I’ve actually enjoyed it. Even though it not the original RPG PSOne, the demo was amazing and made me want to play the HD version on the PlayStation Store. I’ve bought it and it’s currently downloading while I’m here at work.
Of course they changed it to be a set damage increase instead of ramping up every hit until stagger ended. Still gives you the feel of 'gotta save the big hits for stagger'
Can't wait to play as Tifa and Aeris! Damn, this is gonna be so good! It took me a couple plays of the demo to really get the hang of switching characters and using all the systems in combat well. Was planning on playing classic because I love old school RPGs, but normal mode is too much fun!
I do like this format of video where you just get to talk about something you love, and it’d be great to hear these more in-depth ‘How I feel about this game’ talks like this, or even in your KH : II video. Fwiw, I enjoy that kind of dialog you provide here.
Really looking forward to this game. I'm particularly excited that this is essentially an expansion of the original Midgar part of the ps1 version. There's so much they can flesh out. Just from the demo alone, it was fun to see Shinra sabotaging their own reactor when the bomb clearly wasn't good enough, all to presumably make avalanche more villainous to the public.
Should tell those people that poor sales could affect the quality or existence of remaining parts. Although I doubt this game will have a sales problem. Like a Chrono Trigger remake would be, FF7 was just money waiting to be printed for SquareEnix.
I feel like Square is well aware they needed to knock this out of the park and, from what I played in this demo, they look lined up to do it. I had a couple little complaints (spent a little while fighting the camera and the lock-on system wasn’t very intuitive), but I’m VERY much looking forward to playing the full game on release!
I like these little impression vids. And the inside into what you played and how it differed from the final demo we consumers Ultima-tely got. Cool stuff!!!
The first time I played through the demo it did feel a little overwhelming trying to keep up with the combat and controls, especially during the Scorpion boss. The second time I was much more competent, but I still get annoyed by the pacing in that boss battle. It seems to switch modes too quickly, forcing me to change characters, and it doesn’t help that whoever you aren’t controlling directly is basically doing all the wrong things like any AI ally would plus their meter is not building much at all. I kept getting interrupted by having to use potions which eat meter, or having my animation canceled by taking damage from an unavoidable attack and can’t take advantage of stagger because of some built in phase change by hitting an HP target on the boss. It felt a little sloppy. You can’t even pause to enjoy the limit break and ability animations, not that you would see them clearly anyway with so much going on at once and the camera often being in a bad spot. I did enjoy the demo overall and super excited to play the rest of the game, but it does have some issues that come along with pseudo-real-time combat systems.
I personally LOVE this new style of video! You have a way of portraying games pros and their cons in a way that can still be positive to each. I would love to see more content like this!
There likely will be a hard mode, there is in all the KH games and its the same director. However if you check out Maximilian dood's latest video on FF7R he confirms that Normal is difficult. And that guy is a pretty hardcore gamer, so if he thinks that then it really must be.
I really like these types of videos. It's probably just because I like hearing Jirard talk, but I even liked when Jirard made ads for games (Assassins Creed Origins, Langrisser, etc). Maybe Jirard and the Completionist crew just know how to make good videos. This was really enjoyable.
What I really appreciate is how the demo sprinkles just enough hints of lore, for both newbies and fans of the original. There are times Cloud’s head goes fuzzy, at one point seeing a black feather fall to the ground. Tifa is mentioned, as is the fact she’s got some connection to Cloud. My friend tells me that Shinra causing the reactor to explode is new to this version of the story, giving the tone of a conspiracy and making the situation more morally grey. It compels people on the fence with more incentive to buy the game to see how these elements play out in the overall story.
I loved the demo of the Remake. I thought the boss fight being a challenge was great. It sets up some nice story beats, which I think is necessary to make the first Misgard section fun. The difficulty wasn't that bad. Combat moves. It just goes and goes and I really liked that too. Also, everyone looks great and Biggs, Wedge, Jessie all really came to life in the demo. Also, should be obvious as a longtime subscriber, but I love your videos Jirard~
I do agree, hope they save the AVALANCHE team... or at least Jessie. I don't mind retconning to expand the story, so long as it's done well. And this looks well done.
@@nakedanimegirlspls if she survived I will not buy the other games. It would be cool though if they actually bring her back. Like if we actually get to see the holy Materia that she dropped in the lake. recover it and somehow use it to bring her back to life
@@nakedanimegirlspls ... they're not gonna remove Aerith's death, it's a major staple plot point that gives Cloud the final push he needs to want to kill Sephiroth.
Loved this type of video. I was actually seeing another vid from another TH-camr and when I saw you were up next, I immediately just changed gears to hear you. Definitely more insightful from others. I wished you would have spoken about the classic mode vs standard mode, maybe another video ?. Keep it up !
I like the way how the remake of Final Fantasy VII is animated, which seems more realistic of the characters and the backgrounds of the city in the video game.
there only 2 things i wish they'd improve Blocking: the fact that you cant start blocking after taking damage makes it kinda pointless? if you cant start blocking in the middle of taking damage, you have to see the attack coming first and THEN block in advance, how am i supposed to utilize that with monsters i've never fought? that needs vasts amount of experience which i dont have Notifications about taking damage: i straight up made Cloud faint during the escape from the reactor, because i totally did not realize how low his HP was, some flashes at the HP bar, so i dont constantly have to manually keep checking it every 5 seconds, some notification or visual effect that i can see with only my peripheral vision
I love the new combat system, and think this is the combat system that Square Enix should use for Final Fantasy going forward! Unlike most FF fans, I loved the new action rpg style of FF15, and I think this new combat system is a good blend of both that combines the action of FF15’s combat and the strategy of combat in previous Final Fantasies.
BROKE: "They're stretching the source material just to make more money!" WOKE: "The original didn't give Midgar its due. It's a cool and huge f*cking city: it SHOULD have its own game!"
That's very fair. It's a very iconic first chunk, and it is indeed a big ol' city. It was awesome to see the top plate in the opening cutscene! On top of that, I feel a good remake should add context and flesh out ideas that the classic version couldn't. tl;dr Remake Midgar has a lot of potential!
@@noelgomez90 The "Classic" system isn't very good imo, but I appreciate the sentiment, gameplay wise I'll probs always prefer the original, but as far as seeing these locations and scenes in these graphics :D I'm in.... Just hope they don't overly tease Sephiroth. I feel replacing the dialogue in Clouds head with visuals loses an extremely important plot påoint from the OG. One of the biggest puzzle pieces
I was 13 when this came out originally. 400+ hours of grinding to beat the secret bosses later and its held my heart ever since. I loved every second of this. When the demo started and Cloud jumped off the train and I realized I was ACTUALLY playing it, tears just welled up in my eyes and I couldn't stop giggling with pure joy. My only complaint is the camera getting a bit janky in the more heated battles as the enemy jumps around and you switch characters and abilities, but it's not a deal breaker by any means. LIMIT BREAK!
Video is still playing the opening ads - hasn't officially started yet, and I'm liking and commenting because I know this is gonna be such a great watch and wanna help combat the algorithm 💖
The shots of Cloud walking through the streets of Midgar gave me a thought. If you get free reign to walk around all or even most of Midgar, you can get a LOT out of this first installment.
Love this style of video, my favourite parts of the demo... Voice acting was incredible, small moments like Cloud telling Barret to get help. Combat is challenging and will be well rewarded in game as we play through. Overall, one of the best demo I have ever played
Combat aside, I love love *love* the banter between Cloud and Barret mid-action in the demo. Even human enemies like Shinra guards and what-not have dialogue, and that is something I'm excited for.
Seeing a lot of maps translated to 3d almost 1 to 1 was a real treat. And all of the characters are very well recreated, seeing Wedge just as he looked in the original was amazing
loved the format and topic of the video. you should do more videos like this an more general news videos about games. id much rather get my information from you then ign or gamespot because i trust your opinion based off of your passion and knowledge for games. im 31 and played games all my life and just found your channel a few months ago during my 1st play through of chrono trigger. I seen your video in that game and then watched your your other videos. keep up the good work bro
Things not in the demo include an bigger opening cinematic, after which they show aerith, then a flashback cloud has when asked about tifa. IGN has actually posted those videos
The Public Demo convinced me to get this game. It's so gorgeous and the combat is so fun and I can definitely see it becoming deeper and more strategic as the game goes on. I love the character interactions in it too. Cloud being a sass machine throughout was great and Barret's VA is putting so much energy and work into his performance. I can't wait to play the full version when it comes out.
Speaking of the staff caring for this game. I've actually seen or maybe read somewhere that many of the people who are currently working on this remake were children who grew up playing and adoring the original. Is not only that they care, they also LOVE this game. They're giving this project all of their devotion because they feel in debt to the beautiful adventures that final fantasy has given them. And thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
I really enjoyed this type of video 😊😊 you're one of the unbiased voices I can trust and know that you didn't play 20 minutes of a game before reviewing it. I can also see how much of a fan you are. Really hope for more like this in the future 😊
This demo was everything I had hoped for in a remake of this game! I'm rather young in the context of the gaming world, only nineteen, so this was not by any means my first Final Fantasy. My first final fantasy was Final Fantasy X, AND THEN I played VII. I remember being a very young kid who didn't understand the game much, booting up this game on my older brother's PS1, and just playing for hours and hours, not really understanding the plot as much as I probably should have, but experiencing all there was to this game. I had a 3D modeled game that looked really good for the time to help fuel the way I imagined these battles, and as time went on and graphics for games got better, I did the same with FFX. Anyways, the point is that I saw these games in a certain light, my child imagination took over for what the hardware couldn't deliver at the time, and this is exactly what I saw in my head. Replacing the turn-based combat with this, and that is exactly what I saw as a kid. Thrilling battles that always kept me on the edge of my seat, the fire and lightning crackling around that boss, I still remember what I imagined in my head. This is as close to that image that I will ever see, and I am looking forward to seeing the rest of this game in the same light! Will I disagree with some things? Sure, every game has it's parts that don't shine as well as the others or are downright bad. Will I love the game anyways and probably keep the copy till the day I die? Yes, and it will sit neatly next to its predecessor for the PS1 where I believe it belongs.
That FF7 retrospect you did was amazing, hope you are able to re-upload it in good quality sometime. I do hope that Square goes back to update the backgrounds on the original. The work the mod did looked so good.
I am really excited since this may be the first time i get to play a Final Fantasy Classic like this. Also, depending if i get 15 or not, might be the first i ever play. From what I have seen and heard, I am extremely excited and ready to take on the mammoth task of FFVII.
People have got the scorpion boss down to just a few minutes, so while it's a massive slog the first time, there's a lot of scope for replayability once you really understand the mechanics.
I have yet to play the demo, I'm thinking of just waiting for the final game. Also, I love this kind of video, it felt more personal like you talking to the viewer about why you're passionate about the demo
Makes you contemplate if theres stat boosts tied up to ur choices. Kinda like ffX when u talk. Take the 20mins atk up, 30 mins hp up. Or something like that
I believe they're going to go in deep with Avalanche branches, put more focus on characters such as Wedge, Biggs and Jessie, they'll probably add more flashback segments, maybe even have the ability to explore Nibelheim through flashbacks, and my guess is that they're going to add a major villain that isn't Sephiroth at the end of the game. Honestly, I'm thrilled that we'll be able to explore Midgar on a larger scope since it is my favorite location in the original game and was bummed down that we didn't get to explore that city fully until now. It was basically a linear point A to B beginning section that lasted for 3-4 hours and you couldn't revisit it until the very end of the game. And if they have to divide the remake in several parts just to experience Midgar in full glory, I'm all down for it.
When I played the demo, I was worried the combat was gonna be slow because of how big the sword was, but I was amazed at how fluid it was and everything else was very fun too. I like the Voice acting and the music the most
Dude, I am totally stoked for the remake. I have been cautiously optimistic the whole time but when I got to play the demo, I was blown away. It was so good and really fun. The boss battle wasn't too difficult or to easy and it was interesting to have to have the boss do more than just be there and wreck or get wrecked. It moved to walls, it broke your combos, it made you have to strategize on the fly, well if you aren't a pro gamer I guess, which I am not. There were some parts where it seemed.. the magic of the old game was thinner but for the majority of what I saw was a magic confetti cannon right to my blood pump! I haven't been this excited over a game in so long. Normally I am depressed and kind of lifeless. Not many things bring me genuine joy that drives away a patch of the dark haze I live in on a daily basis but the demo did just that and I can't wait to experience the rest of this amazing remake of an already amazing game.
Putting 20 minutes will show the extra Sephiroth scene at the end of tge demo.If you put 30 min it will not.Sort of like a little secret within the demo which was awesome!
Wowwwwww a 2 sec clip amazingggggg
a 2 sec clip for a 1 sec choice. seems fair. nobody said it was ground-breaking.
That's cool. Pointless, but cool..
That’s smart. The player who picks the harder (yet still very easy) objective gets rewarded, which is pretty neat
That's right. I didn't pick up on it, but it turns out it's true.
Minor correction:
- You CAN block in Punisher mode, but only melee strikes and it you will attack back with a counter
It even counters!
I think he meant you cant dodge! Well you can but it takes you out of Punisher mode
The Royal Guard (kinda) version from this game.
Also minor correction... The original timer for the first reactor mission is only 10 minutes, not 20.

Me: "Oh it's that scorpion boss. This should be easy."
Also me: "Fuuuck, I just used up like 15 potions and a phoenix down."
I had 9x potions remaining and finished the game with 13+ mins left

Everyone: Save Aerith!
Me: Save Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge!
I can't wait to see that scene oh my goodness
Remember that Wedge falls from the equivalent of like the tenth floor of an apartment, and he still somehow didn't die on impact.
So my question is that is he gonna die on impact? Or is his... Rotundness save him.
@@Sivrn-Val Physics seems to work differently in Midgar than it does IRL, so maybe that sort of drop doesn't immediately kill (though there have been reports of some who have fallen even further and still survived).

I personally love how the demo made the Guard Scorpion an actual threat.
It's the FIRST BOSS. It makes me excited for the rest of the game.

I remember wanting to explore more of Midgar after leaving and so I’m not at all upset about the idea of a 50+ hour experience set in this incredible city!
enjoy it, it's a classic! pay close attention to the story too
You're in for a treat.
I've been replaying it myself in anticipation, too. The last time I played was in my teens, and now I'm at least ten years old and wiser about JRPGs. I almost beat the game the first time back when, but the last dungeon was a real struggle, and I had trouble consistently getting to the final battles. ;-;
The boss was challenging, and at times frustrating! But damn if it doesn't feel good to stay alive and get your revenge
I pulled off both limit breaks during that fight and I think that's why it's made to be so long.
feels better once u start learning to play. I've played the demo like 6x already lol
I've been trying to see as little of this game as much as possible to get the freshest experience possible.
I finally broke, From what I'm seeing this is gonna be a fun ride.
Thanks for the review, I know you love this IP as much as me!
I'm right there with you I feel some not all critics ruined the experience that why the Completionist and AVGN are usually one of the few I take in.
The Midgar section of the game can really be its own game for how the story revolving it can stand on its own, so I'm fine with that. I hope they make it possible to set the bomb timer to 10 minutes~
I was hoping for something akin to the Fire Cavern from FF8, which gives you a large choice of time limits and rewards you based on them.

Yeah if you look on facebook a huge portion of the comments are something to the effect of "it's a cash grab! incomplete game!"
I just can't believe people would call this polished gem a cash grab. I can't understand. The passion is so clearly evident.
I've never played a Final Fantasy game before, decided to try the demo and holy crap was that a good time!
Give it a try!
One of my favorite bits of polish is that you can open chests from any angle and Cloud will lean over in the direction of the chest and open it instead of just playing a single static "chest opening" animation.

I don't know if this is true but I read an article somewhere that if you pick 30 minutes instead of 20 in the demo you don't get the end preview of Sephiroth. Also, I love the demo so much, can't wait for the final product.
I picked 30 and didnt see a ending with sephiroth ..
Yep! This is true. I didn't know what to pick so I just hit 30. I didn't get that preview of Sephiroth at the end so NOW I'm gonna replay the demo. Just for that
Ohhhh I chose the safe 30 minutes. Definitely need to play it again. Thanks for the heads up!
7:00 he cant block? Yes he can, it even counterattacks.
Right. Cloud can block in punisher mode. He just can't block 'ranged' attacks while in punisher mode.
Can't block ranged and magic
Jessie is so damn cute. I love her design.
When the game is actually released and you do a series on it, it's gonna be crazy.
I for one can't wait to see your Final Fantasy VII review Remake and your Final Fantasy VII Remake review.
@Edwin C. why even say that? You probably thought it was hard, too.
@Edwin C. Never said i didnt manage it on the first go. I said i got better at it each run. There is a difference.
I sorta miss the mis-translation 'be sure to attack while the tail is up!'
@Edwin C. i really hate Elitist people like you, always looking down on other people like you're the most goddamn genius in gaming world
Dope vid super hype!!!
My dad and I got to play Final Fantasy VII remake and my god it was amazing i can't wait for the rest in April
I love these impression/review vids! It's so fun to see Jirard get hyped for stuff.
Thats actually what keeps me interested in games like this. loved your review too btw. great stuff
I broke out my 'Embrace your beard' shirt for this occassion. That's all i need to say i think.
I’m so glad that it seems they made Barret black enough. Real happy they didn’t dial that blackness down.
I had 20 the 1st play, 22 the 2nd. normal setting
It’s good to see the stagger bar from 13 come in. That game wasn’t perfect, but its combat had a lot of really interesting ideas.
Jirard: "we're only a month away!"
Me: *cries in pc*
I do like this format of video where you just get to talk about something you love, and it’d be great to hear these more in-depth ‘How I feel about this game’ talks like this, or even in your KH : II video. Fwiw, I enjoy that kind of dialog you provide here.
i love this style of video its cool to just hear you discuss stuff.
I'm not saying it's not worth it but three parts you have to buy individually some may wait until they unite all three like some
combo pack
Should tell those people that poor sales could affect the quality or existence of remaining parts. Although I doubt this game will have a sales problem. Like a Chrono Trigger remake would be, FF7 was just money waiting to be printed for SquareEnix.
I feel like Square is well aware they needed to knock this out of the park and, from what I played in this demo, they look lined up to do it. I had a couple little complaints (spent a little while fighting the camera and the lock-on system wasn’t very intuitive), but I’m VERY much looking forward to playing the full game on release!
They already confirmed that the entire game will have zero random encounters.
That usually is the case in a/jRPG's. You still would have respawnable enemies.
Good. As much as the original FF7 is a classic, I never really liked the random encounters.
Always love the personal 1 on 1 talk videos you have.
I'm foaming at the mouth to get the full game at this point.
I did enjoy the demo overall and super excited to play the rest of the game, but it does have some issues that come along with pseudo-real-time combat systems.
i love how you sang out the theme by saying what to do. That really got me chuckling to myself.
I'm looking forward of getting more Biggs wedge and Jessie time. I also think that interesting that those are the names of Rob Zombies band mates

Ff7r combat: still not kingdom hearts, but the best combat in any pure final fantasy.
Don't care that most others don't like it, I love the combat system. Very similar to FFXV

I wished you would have spoken about the classic mode vs standard mode, maybe another video ?. Keep it up !
I like the way how the remake of Final Fantasy VII is animated, which seems more realistic of the characters and the backgrounds of the city in the video game.
there only 2 things i wish they'd improve
Blocking: the fact that you cant start blocking after taking damage makes it kinda pointless? if you cant start blocking in the middle of taking damage, you have to see the attack coming first and THEN block in advance, how am i supposed to utilize that with monsters i've never fought? that needs vasts amount of experience which i dont have
Notifications about taking damage: i straight up made Cloud faint during the escape from the reactor, because i totally did not realize how low his HP was, some flashes at the HP bar, so i dont constantly have to manually keep checking it every 5 seconds, some notification or visual effect that i can see with only my peripheral vision
ah, music from Voices of the Lifestream in this video. Love that remix album.
BROKE: "They're stretching the source material just to make more money!"
WOKE: "The original didn't give Midgar its due.

The Public Demo convinced me to get this game. It's so gorgeous and the combat is so fun and I can definitely see it becoming deeper and more strategic as the game goes on.
30 minute countdown is there specifically for Kotaku journalist!
GREAT take on this kind of video! Love the details you went in, I saw a lot of similar vids, but you kept it fresh and discussed interesting topics!
