Hey guys, it was brought to my attention that third world country was not the correct term, but rather developing country. I did use both terms in the video, but hopefully no one was offended. It was a mistake on my part because i wasnt aware of the difference, but now i know the difference between the two terms. I think very highly of The Philippines, which is why im here and have this channel haha Sorry if it offended anyone, didnt mean it in a negative way ❤ You guys
We Filipino live a simple, relax and happy life… Remember, in the end, it's not the material possessions that define our worth or legacy; it's the love we shared, the kindness we gave, and the memories we created.
So true we live a simple and happy life, but the majority of us are struggling with finances because of very low wages, hence a lot of Filipinos choose to leave the country to earn reasonable wages. Life is beautiful in the Philippines if wages are liveable, unfortunately, it isn't, I don't want to work just to survive, I want to work to live and enjoy my hard-earned money by travelling. It’s hard to travel in the Philippines on a minimum wage.
The main reasons for me moving to the Philippines are, 1)The cost of living; 2) The Filipino people. 3) Many people speak English. 4) The visa requirements. 5) No snow. ❤❤❤❤
Yes I like my country to retire because of the weather I can't handle the cold weather here in Australia. I just wanted to work here and finish my house, save a little bit and go back to my home town in Leyte Philippines 🇵🇭 that is my goal
On May 5th, 2013, I moved here, and now 11 years later, I am still here. Not even been home once. Life here is so much more relaxed and I will hopefully be here for the rest of my life. The UK life in the US is not the place I grew up in so I do not miss it.
@@TheNYCexpat I live in Santa Rosa, Laguna in the burbs. I love it as it is central and easy to get to where I need to but not overcrowded like a city. I was never married before I came here but my GF and I are talking about it and a family. Jen is a Real Estate Brokers agent and does really well so life is good. You are totally on point about less stress.
Hey Mike, good video. I'm a youthful 61 year old guy and visiting the Philippines in August ('24) as part of an exploratory trip to make my decision whether to move there or not. You're making a very strong case for me. I've worked hard all my life and now I want to live. My wife left me me a year and a half ago and now it's time to live! I had to sub.
Hey man, thank you for watching and subbing My advice to you would be to come here with an open mind. Give yourself time to adjust. South east Asia can be wild and a sensory overload for some depending on where you're visiting. Talk to the locals, they are welcoming of foreigners and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet probably. Take time for yourself to just see if you could see yourself living here or not. Also try to look into places that look nice to you because there are so many places in the Philippines and each place can be different
You'll really feel at home in the Philippines if you live in the province. Be friendly w/ your neighbors, the filipino will love and protect you. And , U.S. military bases are now scattered all over the islands.
You are doing the right thing by coming to look first before you make a move. A key aspect of moving is to find a guy(s) that can help you cut the learning curve that is required to adjust to a new culture. Another very important part of this adjustment is never do anything permanent for a minimum of a year, two is better, especially with women. A final thing is have a good understanding of what your finances will be in the beginning for your monthly expenses plus your savings. If you have $2000/month you will be in great shape, but you must also be prepared that your costs will probably go up over time which is where your savings comes in. I suggest is to watch as many TH-cam presenters to get ideas. Watch for patterns of topics as you research prior to visiting. Good luck to you.

New Canadian citizen subscriber here with Filipino blood🇨🇦🇵🇭 I totally agree with you, I can 100% relate with you. All you’ve mentioned here are all realistic because we have experienced it here in North America. Again, let’s all be realistic, being mature, we prefer to choose a ‘healthy quality of life’ versus a ‘life enslaved by too much stresses.’ My wife & I have decent jobs as registered nurses. We have so many family members & relatives who are also American 🇺🇸 citizens living in California, NYC, & Florida, who are also earning very decent salary as professional healthcare workers. At the end of the day, we love and keep coming back for holidays in the Philippines 🇵🇭 to rejuvenate ourselves. We’ve been on a number of holidays in some countries. (FYI: Philippines is richer than Cuba, being a second world country). Realistically, as a general impression and not being biased, and subjectively, nothing beats the Philippines. It has so many world-renowned paradises on earth, economy is gradually growing, and it has English-speaking, kind, hospitable & welcoming Filipinos. You’ve mentioned that ‘Filipinos make the best what they have’ and ‘Philippines has less but their happiness is more.’ Absolutely true. It says in the Scripture ‘GODLINESS with CONTENTMENT is GREAT GAIN.’ We should be contented and be happy of what we have. For me, this is one of the secrets of being & staying happy. Great content, sir. 👍🇨🇦🇺🇸🇵🇭 God richly bless your family ❤️
Thank you man, comments like this mean a lot to me. I try to make videos that I believe in and that I think others night also find helpful. To be myself and say what I think, rather than just do stuff that doesn't make me feel fulfilled for views or money. So when I get comments like this, that my video spoke to someone or resonated with you, it means a lot. Sounds like we look at things the same way though. Like I say in most of my videos every place has its pros and cons, but you have to find what works best for you. Thank you for sharing your story too and the kind words. Hopefully your family can also get to the Philippines or wherever you're happy

California native here currently living in Bohol the past 9 months. I tell people that even if the prices were the same as in the US I still would prefer the Phillipines as a place to retire. Most locals are kind-hearted, content, friendly, and accepting of foreigners. George Carlin said it best; " its called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it".
Alot of people Don't believe me when I tell them I rent 2 spots in Phillipines for less then $700. It's the new American Dream Thanks for your channel 👍
Your statement is a little misleading. $700 probably comes with a lower standard of living. It’s not that cheap if you’re wanting to live in the high-end areas like BGC or Makati in a major city which will still run you $1000+/mo for a decent place.
@@culturechangers5911 how you go tell me ?? I'm been doing it for 5 years this the problem with social media everybody has their 2 cents about how another man is living dude Rent in cebu is less then $200 a month I can show you where nothing misleading Makati and BGC is high end but its still cheap compared to America I live here as of right now as I'm texting you I'm in Phillipines where are you ?

This guy is telling the truth.. I’m Pinoy living stateside and living here in contrast is a big difference..I can see why alot of people wanting to live there because of the cost of living and the culture plus people were the strong trait the Philippines can offer. The shift is changing and west will be the upside down later on. It is also true living there will be luxury already compared to US for a cheaper price.
Thank you amigo. Some people want to get mad at me for having my opinion, but it is what it is. America is getting worse and the prices of everything are going up so it doesn't make sense
@@TheNYCexpat You nailed everything..I don’t see the much reason why someone could disagreed in various points you mentioned. We love both as US is just a money generator for us and growing your money is another story and US has a big advantage for us compared in the Phils. Most Pinoys immigrant don’t have student debts and has in demand professions and I can see the struggle for local Americans in that point plus the divorced left and right making a burden on their finances unlike the counterpart Pinoy culture for being family oriented. Both have Pros and cons and its varies case to case in each person but for the expat wanting to live there is no brainer to me in terms of low cost and possible to find a marriage that would become successful unlike finding american women in this generations don’t have values anymore and your money will go further compared while you here in US.
@@xcloud777 yea america is unhinged right now. The political charade got everyone fighting over dumb shit instead of working together to create a better America. What part of Philippines are you from anyway man?
@@TheNYCexpat We were from Laguna, its close province from Manila and Alabang, heading towards CALABAR zone area. Filipinos value most the family, then the community, and then humanity. We can afford to smile even in the most pressing challenges, are able to live with levels of contentment, and are always able and willing to share whatever we could. That's why the natural friendliness, warmth and respect for others are the hallmarks of our hospitality that most foreigners find quite amazing.
I'm not really wealthy at all and I dress like a local most of the time with basketball jersey and shorts lol everyone has been really nice that I've met and I've made a lot of friends here. @@yootoober2009 There's a lot of USD jobs available to Filipinos now. They can be paid $500 to $1.5K a month and do better work and have better English than Americans. Better quality labor for 30 to 70% the cost.
@@yootoober2009 not really as long you spend that money here. it stimulate the economy. You earn powerful dollar, buy stuff here so local Filipinos businesses can grow as well. unless always buy imported stuff then you're sending that dollar to other countries
Awww. Totally loved the bonus. Teddy is so cute. One of the perks of living in the Philippines: raising kids is more affordable. I have lived in both America and the Philippines, and I'm currently living in the Philippines with my husband and 2 kids (the second one was born here). We prefer living here in the Philippines than in America for the same reasons you stated. It's a bit annoying when some foreigners nitpick on things like that the price of electricity and gas is higher in the Philippines and that internet is slower. But if you look at the bigger picture, it's a lot more economical to live here and you'll have more time for yourself and your family. I pay around $32 / month for 100Mbps internet, which is just what I need because it's fast enough for 2 laptops on online classes, a smart tv on Netflix and 2 cellphones all using the internet at the same time. But if I want to get 300Mbps here in the Philippines, I can upgrade my plan, which would cost an extra $8 (or a little less than $40 / month total). How much does internet cost in America now?
Haha thank you! I'm sure he will be featured more in videos. And yea I think the same way you do about things when it comes to that kind of stuff. Our electricity bill has been okay for how much we run the air con. Even if it is somewhat more expensive, the difference in how much cheaper rent is more than makes up for it and then some. There ware pros and cons to every place, people just need to figure out what works for them
Sooo true!! Hello we too are planning to move back home in the next 3-4 years, God forbid our home will be finished by that time.. do you guys plan on staying there for good and just let your kids find their paths or career in the Philippines when they get older? 😊
@@la4828 not sure yet. I want to raise the kid here to be honest, but maybe for high school/college give him the option to study in america. Its tough because there are pros and cons to both sides. We're just trying to figure out things for now right now and the later stuff later

Very good information for those who are thinking of living in the Philippines. You're a New Yorker like me, I feel you bro...I know exactly what you're talking about.
I totally agree with everything you said. We have relatives in the US and they're planning to retire here. Because spending only a fraction of what they usually spend in the US, it goes a long way here in the Philippines (unless otherwise, our peso gets stronger than the $, but i doubt it).
Yea man. There's more to it than money, but unfortunately the world revolves around money, so more affordability makes things easier usually. Even aside from that, it's hard to compare the community and people I've met here and how they act and their kindness compared to back home
A reminder to our expat friends... your dollar and presence affect the housing prices and landlords' preference for your dollar but it takes away some housing opportunities for local Filipinos. Food and grocery prices too, probably...
@@yootoober2009 not sure I agree totally on that because it goes both ways. The Philippines doesn't have a lot of home based businesses, if you look at the top ten businesses here it's all development companies for condos and malls. Tourism is a big money maker for your economy too and creates a large number of jobs just in that sector
@@yootoober2009 not really, when the Chinese came for the online games or POGO it has affected the rental rates but their now gone, the foreigners renting doesn’t really have not much effect specially if it’s not touristic areas, while the Chinese tenants came with mass renters so for while the demand got suddenly high.
I also have strong ideas of a business in thr Philippines. If your an American or European and u want an extra stream of income. Go to transportation. That is free advice! Like u buy taxi, a van and lease them out daily. Extra advice find a true trusted undeniable trust. This u have to do the leg work yourself. Once u find trusted drivers, helpers etc. Your assets are secured and u can put GPS in them too.
Even smaller cities in Europe are grossly more affordable than the US to buy real estate. Italy and Spain are great places to buy property in smaller cities, and a recent places that hit our radar and I should probably gatekeep is Poland ❤, and the Baltic Countries. Now is the best time to get into these countries because of the construction of Rail Baltica which will create high speed rail from Berlin to Tallinn, there is so much development in cities on the line it's insane and there is so many opportunities for investment.

That is true. I moved to the US as a math teacher, the pay is good in California but the stress is so much so I opt to not continue teaching. The thing is what can I do if I won’t teach? Probably downgrade and work a minimum pay. That means I would never be able to afford the most basic need like a house. If I stayed in the Philippines, I probably already a Math professor in a university and of course already have a house. It’s depressing to think that I’m in my 40s here in the US and still don’t have my own house. I’m thinking of earning as much as I can and go home to the Philippines in the near future.
Yea the prices of everything are going up a lot more than the wages so it's hard to keep up. What once was a good income can now be hard to get by with financially. If you work a full time job you should be able to live comfortably financially in my opinion, simple as that. Especially something as important as teaching, how is it that you're shaping the states youth, but still have to struggle to pay the state for basic things? Real estate prices especially are crazy
Calif. is super expensive. An option is to move to a more affordable state that pays a decent teacher"s salary. California is one of the most expensive states.

One of the thngs i often mention to my friends is that the US and UK were the best but now they are graually decliniing, and Philiiiipiines was very bad but is quiickly Improving, so it's a lot easier for people to be cheerful and optimistic when they live in a place where people are consistently gettinig better than it iis for people who are liviing a place that was once the best but thiings are getting worse and worse. So that really helps to understand why people in the Philipiines can be so happy and cheereful, they expect lfe to be hard and it's often a bit better then they expected but in america people expect life to be easy and it's usually worse than expected, and this is one of the most important principles of psychology, if you're expectations are too high you'll often be disappoinited but if they are low you'll often be glad that they were exceeded.

Apparently it's new york owner from a filipino who grew up there, so maybe it's good. I was thinking about making a video there, maybe the guy wants to trade a few pies for a review haha
Watched the entire video because it had good topics. Rhetorical questions matched with personal experience … 1,000 American dollars in some places of the Philippines pays for a place to live & food & transportation & visa extension fees. 1,000 monthly … The Philippines opens up doors for foreigners or expats … Thanks for sharing your story
The worst area of NY is pleasant compared to some of the slums in Manila. You guys are really clueless. If I had power I would make you live in a slum for a year on a basic Filipino salary. And then another year just to make sure you were taught a lesson.
Fellow NY’er! I’ll be seeing the country myself in July, definitely considering permanently staying down the line if I can deal with the weather. From NYC to CEBU. ✈️
What up man. Have fun, the weather gets hot, there's two seasons here, rainy season and dry season aka hot and hotter haha Just give yourself time to adapt to the weather though and stay inside during the afternoons if need be and hang out in the air con
Philippines is no.longer a 3rd world country because a 3rd world category is much poor a very backward status. The coyntry now is in a category of developing country. And going to a middle income category as per world bank and IMF definition.
In Australia, rent is US$ 370 a week. In the Philippines, rent is US$ 14 a week. Go figure. (Edited to use US dollars) The annual difference is (368 - 14) x 52 = US$18 408. This converts to PHP 1 049 256. This is already one third of a nice detached house (3 million pesos).
even if you live in the country side or province is much better, less pollution, more time to think of what you like, unwind and not be stressed out of so much stuff, more connection with the people around you and yes there'll be struggles but you'll not be alone and be happy and content, the more simple the better
Yea it sucks because there are a lot of good things in all of those places you mentioned too, at least there was, so having to navigate though all the issues can be stressful
Just watched another channel about New York. Good Lord! I'm speechless on the situation going on over there. Definitely go for less stress moving to Philippines.
Yea I just saw a video about Los Angeles the other day, there was an actual landfill of trash dumped in the middle of the city. I have also heard a lot of people complaining about nyc too so I could imagine
Enjoyed your video and subbed, Mike. I'm moving to the PI summer '25 after I retire. I have a friend who lives in Texas and owns a condo in Manila. I'll be staying a month to get my bearings straight, and then I'm going to travel around before find a place to settle.
Hey man, thank you for watching and subbing. I think what you're doing sounds like a good way to do it. Get your feet on the ground and check out different places and see what feels good to you. The people are nice everywhere here so you'll find lots of that. It's good that you have a friend in Manila too, when you first get here it can seem overwhelming, there's a lot of people and sounds and visual stimulation, but get away from the airport and find youll settle in and feel better Thank you
the problem with 1st world countries is that people have a high standard of living but sacrificed their quality of life. the PH offers a culture of gratitude, and from those values we can survive, thrive, and live a quality kind of life. we are also catching up on achieving a high standard of living. thank you.
Open heart surgery in the US costs about $200,000. In the Philippines, most of the time, it would not exceed $100,000 with an average of $75,000. And yes, our Doctors are very competent. We base our study on western literature, journals & standardization presented during annual international conferences as well as training on the latest surgical techniques abroad as well.
It's not an apples to apples comparison though since most people in USA have insurance that will often cover most if not all of the emergency procedures. Here cash is still king for medical stuff. Even the insurance plans I mentioned are typically partial coverage or pay first and hope they reimburse you. That's one thing I would like to see The Philippines improve on is to change their policy when it comes to emergency care. Help people first, worry about pay later
You're in Eastwood Legrand in Quezon city.. i had a college friend who used to own an Air bnb unit in there.. nice place.. he sold it the unit during the 2020 pandemic and he moved back to his province... I sorely miss it

Of course. If you earn and spend dollars with the Philippine pesos valuation, it is definitely a win. But here is the thing you have to consider, remove your $ and start from scratch then get back to us who earn and live for our daily minimum wage. Also, this kind of lifestyle that foreigners bring to the Philippines is just driving the prices higher, that soon enough the locals can no longer afford to live decently in our own country.
I understand your point and frustration, but as said to someone else I don't entirely agree with it. Prices are going up everywhere currently, especially for fuels and energy, that's not America's fault it's due what's going on in the world right now. Secondly tourism is a huge industry in The Philippines. The majority of your top ten companies are for tourism and development, along with banks. Foreigners put a lot of money into your economy and provide a lot of jobs. I asked someone else and I'll ask you, where is all of that money going? No one seems to want to answer.
Hey guys, it was brought to my attention that third world country was not the correct term, but rather developing country. I did use both terms in the video, but hopefully no one was offended. It was a mistake on my part because i wasnt aware of the difference, but now i know the difference between the two terms.
I think very highly of The Philippines, which is why im here and have this channel haha
Sorry if it offended anyone, didnt mean it in a negative way

We Filipino live a simple, relax and happy life… Remember, in the end, it's not the material possessions that define our worth or legacy; it's the love we shared, the kindness we gave, and the memories we created.
Well said
I agree 💯 Most Filipinos I know love people and use things ... unlike most Westerners who love things and use people. I love it in the Philippines!
5) No snow. ❤❤❤❤
Good reasons Larry, agreed haha

Hey Mike, good video. I'm a youthful 61 year old guy and visiting the Philippines in August ('24) as part of an exploratory trip to make my decision whether to move there or not. You're making a very strong case for me. I've worked hard all my life and now I want to live. My wife left me me a year and a half ago and now it's time to live! I had to sub.
Hey man, thank you for watching and subbing
My advice to you would be to come here with an open mind.
Do you have a daughter I can get to know?
Good luck sir, hope everything goes fine, enjoy your stay

I totally agree with you, I can 100% relate with you. All you’ve mentioned here are all realistic because we have experienced it here in North America. Again, let’s all be realistic, being mature, we prefer to choose a ‘healthy quality of life’ versus a ‘life enslaved by too much stresses.’
My wife & I have decent jobs as registered nurses.
God richly bless your family ❤️
Thank you man, comments like this mean a lot to me. I try to make videos that I believe in and that I think others night also find helpful.

Haha yea it sounds made up huh compared to rent these days. Thank you for watching
Your statement is a little misleading. $700 probably comes with a lower standard of living. It’s not that cheap if you’re wanting to live in the high-end areas like BGC or Makati in a major city which will still run you $1000+/mo for a decent place.

This guy is telling the truth.. The shift is changing and west will be the upside down later on. It is also true living there will be luxury already compared to US for a cheaper price.

I've been there many times over the past few years and know a lot of what to expect, but this video sealed the deal. I'm thinking about BGC in that area. Thank you for your video, and I look forward to more.

I hope America will be great again. You can check out the provinces in Phils too. I think it's cheaper than Manila.
Thank you for all the good stuffs you said about the Philippines 🇵🇭
Coz we Filipinos love God, family, respectful, have an awesome food culture, have tons of wonderful opulent places to visit aside from spectacular beaches.
Hi there. Thank you for choosing to Philippines. How I wish you make vlog in our province. Nueva Ecija. Try to plant rice and onions.
I am seriously considering it. I'll be in Cebu in June.
Have fun. Go with an open mind and don't be afraid to talk to the locals or ask questions if you need help. You'll have a great time
Be ready for the shitty traffic especially in metro cebu 😅
Other than that you will be having a blast!
That's the best place to start. You can have all the 1st world amenities you want and its packed with gorgeous women. Their English is the best in the country. If Cebu City is too dense for you there are really nice cities nearby you can try with less traffic. Some of the women in Cebu are Colombian/Venezuelan level hot.

Very educational and informative video vlog. Refreshing to see a younger expat's experiences. Thank you for breaking it down thoroughly between, having or not having, in the U.S. versus Philippines.
It is clear as day, you are in the Philippines to have an "overall" better quality of life...Not to just "GET THE YOUNG FILIPINA GIRL", like most, but NOT ALL old expats that decide to retire there.
Continue to educate these older expats with your NYC Roots. They certainly need to understand the true benefits of quality of life in the Philippines, and not solely "GETTING THE GIRL"... GETTING THE YOUNG/OLDER FILIPINA WOMAN is a bonus.
BTW, I'm from Jersey. NJ is NY's Little Brother. I immediately relate to your mindset. I'm American Filipino. Born in the Philippines, immigrated to the U.S. when I was 2yrs old... basically, I'm white lol. Now, residing in Florida.

Most condos in Phil's are shoebox size, that why it's cheaper. I don't like my ref next to my bed.
You gotta shop around a little. You're right though the studio units are usually tiny, but you can find some deals if you look. Our place is one bedroom around 410 square feet and we pay around $320

@@TheNYCexpat Still open, but based on watching Days of Videos, I'm leaning towards Valencia, Bacong, Dauin outside of Dumaguete. I'm not going to Duma to be around a bunch of Expats, I really like things about Negros (Morenas ❤️ 🔥). Valencia is up the Mountain so it's cooler, and often people don't even run their Aircon.
Possibly Baguio. Cooler and they have a cool night market that runs from 9pm-2am.

Great content. Shared.

Philippines is no.longer a 3rd world country because a 3rd world category is much poor a very backward status. The coyntry now is in a category of developing country. And going to a middle income category as per world bank and IMF definition.
Sorry for the confusion, I'll keep that in mind for the next video. Didn't mean anything offensive by the concept I was discussing, but I understand
You have never lived in the Province, huh? It's Still 3rd worldish in many areas!

In Australia, rent is US$ 370 a week.
In the Philippines, rent is US$ 14 a week.

(Edited to use US dollars)
The annual difference is (368 - 14) x 52 = US$18 408.
This converts to PHP 1 049 256.
This is already one third of a nice detached house (3 million pesos).
That's crazy lol
even if you live in the country side or province is much better, less pollution, more time to think of what you like, unwind and not be stressed out of so much stuff, more connection with the people around you and yes there'll be struggles but you'll not be alone and be happy and content, the more simple the better

Great review.. thanks.
