    So what I learned in this video is that the finger lift works like an instrument by which you can feel where the throttle is, including avoiding pushing it too much forward or pulling it too back (fueling or shutting down the engine). coz I'm a newbie to DCS, i wonder if i can feel the power of the engine or the position of the throttle without the finger lift as i play more hours. so does that mean the more skillful i become, the less likelihood i need the finger lift (so that i can save money)?

      You will hear when you transition into Afterburner there is a noticeable change in the engine noise. Without the idle detent there is a chance you will move the throttle too far back and turn the engines off.
      You can add the finger lift kit as an addon later. IIRC I got the kit free as I pre-ordered the Orion 2 throttle before it was released, I would have purchased it otherwise personally. It's up to you.

    hey, thanks for the explanations. I'm about to order one, but I was thinking about getting one without the fingerlift mechanism, I just don't want to pay extra 50$ for it. But the question is this mechanims is an absalute must? Can I prevent the switching off the engines in mid air if I move the throttle all the way back? Can it be configured is some way?

      The throttle has two buttons hidden inside, which are triggered when the grip lever is pulled all the way back. I can see no way in the Simapp pro software to disable these buttons, so they will trigger shutting down the engines if you don't have the finger lift idle detent as a stopper.

      The controllers do seem much better, with those rings gone. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the pancake lenses, if god rays are reduced.
      I'm in no hurry to buy it, I have the Rift S still and the Q2. A GPU upgrade is really my next port of call. If the Q3 gets aftermarket adapters to fit my VIVE Deluxe audio strap I may consider the upgrade some time next year. Honestly I'm losing interest in VR other than for sims, most games seem to be getting released on the headset itself rather than PCVR. Understandable with the price of GPUs having raised significantly, devs will release games where the market share is.
      That said I have recorded some Contractors VR gameplay with the Call Of Duty Zombies mods, just need to upload them.

      Unfortunately not as simple as that, she developed a chronic neurological condition pretty much out of the blue over night.
      Has had a year of private therapy and physio as the NHS options for the condition pretty sparse, and not much better private tbh.
      Doing what we can, and she's just re-started college again, so things are slowly improving, but it'll be a lifelong thing for her :(
      Kinda why I've been off radar!

    Is there a non-finger-lift detent option?? (aftermarket/3d printable?)
    I'm thinking about buying the F-15EX Orion2 "kit" with the F-16EX grip. I'm thinking of upgrading from a TM Warthog, and my current setup for throttle is the last like 15-20% of throttle is a "push through" detent for afterburner. its very easy to push through, but gives just enough resistance that I can bump up against it for mil power.

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not that I'm aware of. Swapping back and forth from the F-15 to the F-16 grips won't be something you want to do on a regular basis IMHO.
      The Winwing finger lift kit does let you push through the afterburner detent, I would highly advise lubricating with silicon grease though. The finger lift action, is technically only really needed to come over the idle detent to the off position. I just always use the finger lift to remove any friction on the A/B detent.

      I might come back to S&S this Fall when they release it on other platforms, maybe we'll get new content. I've not touched the game in a loooong time, I can't say where Skulls can be found now.

    The detent mechanism seems better on the STECS but the analog thumb stick location isn’t great

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stecs wasn't available when I bought the Orion 2. Having seen reviews I agree with you about the mini stick placement on the Stecs.
      I've applied a dab of silicon grease to the detents which has reduced the friction when pushing through. Without the grease it took a bit of force to push through hence me preferring to use the finger lift

    • @falmatrix2r
      @falmatrix2r 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Honosuseri I think I’d still pull the finger lift even with grease cause it looks fragile lol
      I’d take the STECS if I could move the thumb stick
      The colored detent brackets extras are so nice for switching between games (DCS and Star Citizen)
      I’m trying to upgrade from a x52 I’ve been using since the Lomac days, most of my sliders are jittery, twist only works with a 60% dead zone and the stick creaks
      At first I was looking at the VKB NXT with a STECS or maybe the Gunfighter IV while keeping my x52 throttle
      The WinWing HOTAS has a compelling price compared to Virpil and VKB but I keep reading about quality control issues and not great customer service

      @Honosuseri  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well my Orion 2 is still working and nothing broken since this video. I can't speak for their customer service.
      I have VKB's Gladiator EVO Space Combat Edition as a flight stick. Bought around the same time and that too is still working great

      @@Honosuseri I’m curious what made you get the VKB instead of the Orion HOTAS combo? I’ve been tempted at the Orion 2 Max but the twist axis is sold out, maybe I could use one of the thumb sticks as a rudder axis temporarily?
      I’ve watched a few vids about the Gunfighter mk4, it looks damn good but the price of it is 60€ off from the Orion 2 Max

    • @Honosuseri
      @Honosuseri  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Gladiator Evo has a dry clutch system (this helps it work as a throttle with the omni version). I also fly helicopters and the cyclic stick is NOT supposed to re-centre irl, it stays where you leave it. With the dry clutch I can remove the springs and the friction holds the stick in place. Yes it has a twist axis on the EVO stick but I've locked that off, nice it has the option but I do have rudder pedals.
      I programmed the LEDs to show when the stick is in centre position shown here th-cam.com/video/ZKE_w_6Ev94/w-d-xo.html
