  • Emily and I finally leave the dock in our Catalina 25 eBay special. The bulkhead repair holds just fine! We get to see some dolphins on our way back.

    Update: Just purchase a 2021 Tohatus 6 hp 20" shaft Sail Pro after doing some research. It is a manual start but does have an alternator. I will install this coming Saturday.

    My $1 C-25 arrived on schedule. All the wood, electrical, and plumbing, on the interior was stripped out, except for the bulkheads that anchor the chain plates. I see about three years worth of refit in my future. I hope to see you sailing your C-25.

    Did you guys sink on your second outing? This was an awesome start to a video series.

    Nice. I’m interested in seeing all the repairs and modifications you made to the boat since purchasing it. I’m trying to get an idea of how much $ and work is involved in getting a Catalina 25-27 back into sailing condition.
    Keep up the good work😎

    So, what happened to you guys? We bought a 1982 C25 after owning 7 sailboats since 1978. We're thinking this will be a smaller, more manageable boat for 70 year olds. We just need roller furling now as well as jiffy reeling capability in the cockpit.

    The boat appears to be sailing good. My thousand-dollar 1984 Catalina 25 motor broke this past weekend after retrieving my main halyard at the top of the mast (rookie mistake). The boat is a very dry boat with no leaks. My motor is a Yamaha 9.5hp, thinking about just buying a new motor. I like the idea of having a reliable motor.

      The Yamaha 9.9 on ours worked for a day or so, enough for us to take it out the day we recorded this. But we noticed the tell tale wasn’t passing water. Turns out the impeller was completely disintegrated from the previous owner. It was a bear getting the lower unit off to replace. And we still keep finding pieces of rubber clogging up the tell tale. If I could find a 25 inch electric outboard I’d switch in a heartbeat.

      @emsailing1625  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None of that is the fault of the motor. I’m guessing there wasn’t a lot of routine maintenance done on our motor by the previous owner.

      @@emsailing1625 My issue is most likely old age for the motor. When you get a new motor do a video. I am shopping now and hope to have the new motor in July.

      Love your content guys, we just took our first sailing course (on 420s albeit) looking down the road we want to be where you are... Why pulling the Halyard was a mistake? because you were not in the marina (boat "parked") yet?

    • @davidpearson2581
      @davidpearson2581 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cuestion-de-tiempo The main halyard was not connected to main sail when I pull on it. The halyard ended up at the top of the mast with no way to get it back down.

    The boom topping lift should be disconnected while sailing. The wire attaching the boom to the backstay.

      You are absolutely correct! Glad someone pointed this out. She sails much better when the main can actually function.

      First time watching the video I own the Catalina 25 at lake Tahoe for years and that's what I couldn't help but staring at is the backstay boom support. You couldn't attack you couldn't run downwind 🙂

      just wondering, does it matter when you disconnect it? ie, should you disconnect it and then raise the main, or raise them main and then disconnect it like while you are still in irons? Also when you lower the main, should you reattach the end of the boom to it before or after lowering the main?

  • @itsmePassportBro

    Why is your boom still attached to the rear standing rigging...

    Looks like you've quit making TH-cam videos. I hope you haven't quit sailing that C-25. I have a delivery date of 2021/11/24 for my $1 C-25. I expect that there will be a whole lot of refit in my future.
