    I notice lots of times you say it's my boat or my boat, this is what I'm doing to my boat. You're married. Everything is supposed to be shared. Pretend the roles are reversed. Say, this is our boat and we are doing this to our boat. She should be in charge of making some decisions. She should have goals for the boat too. Ask her what she feels needs done to the boat. Make the project more of a way to get closer. Take small breaks and give her hugs and kisses. Buy her some flowers for the boat. Look into getting this for the interior so she is more cozy That doesn't mean buy her cookware or vaccum Maybe buy a reading light, comfort memory foam, make a storage area for her, maybe buy a television and digital antena .... Get her what she wants such as maybe a special beach blanket or spend the night at a hotel every so often or take her out to eat or explore. Make it all part of the show.

    So, what happened to you guys? We bought a 1982 C25 after owning 7 sailboats since 1978. We're thinking this will be a smaller, more manageable boat for 70 year olds. We just need roller furling now as well as jiffy reeling capability in the cockpit.

Honestly, the bulkhead replacement wasn't too bad. The cockpit scupper leak.... That's a whole other story.

    I would have oversized the holes, filled them with epoxy, and redrilled them to size. Then I would have sealed the whole bulkhead with penetrating epoxy (x2 or x3 on the edges). I also would have considered tabbing the bulkhead to the hull with epoxy and fiberglass. Catalina may have just bolted it in place, but they aren't known for the quality of their manufacturing techniques.

    • @waldonumbly7490
      @waldonumbly7490 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better to leave it loose.

    • @duhduh7496
      @duhduh7496 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. On a boat that size, particularly one not intended to go off-shore, it isn't absolutely necessary to tab the bulkheads to the hull and deck. However, since the chainplates are bolted to the main bulkhead, tabbing the bulkheads to the hull and deck would distribute the loads and make for a MUCH stronger structure.

    • @G029er
      @G029er ปีที่แล้ว

      "...but they aren't known for the quality of their manufacturing techniques." The boat is 40 years old. I think that speaks for itself.

Also when you lower the main, should you reattach the end of the boom to it before or after lowering the main?

    The boat appears to be sailing good. My thousand-dollar 1984 Catalina 25 motor broke this past weekend after retrieving my main halyard at the top of the mast (rookie mistake). The boat is a very dry boat with no leaks. My motor is a Yamaha 9.5hp, thinking about just buying a new motor. I like the idea of having a reliable motor.

    • @emsailing1625
      @emsailing1625 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Yamaha 9.9 on ours worked for a day or so, enough for us to take it out the day we recorded this. But we noticed the tell tale wasn’t passing water. Turns out the impeller was completely disintegrated from the previous owner. It was a bear getting the lower unit off to replace. And we still keep finding pieces of rubber clogging up the tell tale. If I could find a 25 inch electric outboard I’d switch in a heartbeat.

    • @emsailing1625
      @emsailing1625 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      None of that is the fault of the motor. I’m guessing there wasn’t a lot of routine maintenance done on our motor by the previous owner.

    • @davidpearson2581
      @davidpearson2581 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What you could have done was install wood first then drill holes using a self taping wood screw for hard to reach with a screwdriver you could try jacking the cabin top right below where mast step it might make it easier to slide wood back in I did this on a ranger 23 with a friend who got the boat for free just for removing it from a property owner sails mast cushions complete lucky him
