I've been putting off doing body work for being scared of not getting it perfect, but pbg videos really just put it into perspective that it doesnt really matter that much, especially on a cheapo car what you do as long as it looks good at night and to a drunk. Ill do it right some day I swear, but it aint today or tomorrow and thats for sure
Fun story about the bag. Thought I saw an old truck of mine a few weeks ago and did a u-turn in traffic like a madman, much to my wife's displeasure, sadly it definitely wasn't mine.
You saved that car. It will live now for decades longer than it would have is it perfect no. Will it last for many years longer with no issues absolutely. Amazing work. Again your Dad is a body work master!
I'm having this playing while I'm doing "restoration" of a wheel well on my Volvo. And by that I mean getting the worst stuff off with a wire wheel, using some rust converter on what's left and using silver spray paint to make it look semi decent.
Thanks for providing some much needed distraction. I've been in Jacksonville for the past week at the Mayo Clinic helping my Mom and my Dad mostly driving and pushing the wheelchair. When I got my compressor I was going to bolt it to the floor with some springs to reduce vibration. I LOVE 💕 HOW POLE BARN GARAGE uses old school techniques and tricks to save money 💰. He shows you EXACTLY how you can fix up a cool car with the smallest budget possible. Way to go cool ones! I've gotten some cool tips from you too. Outstanding work Father & Son Team! Pole Barn does things like Grandpa did. He taught his lessons learned from the Great Depression. They had no money back then. I salute Pole Barn Garage for helping out the hotrodder that's on a meager budget. Also, you don't have to have fancy tools or techniques to get the work done. Just grit, brain power and determination will suffice to complete the tasks. Great video 📸. Thanks.

I was recently at a car fire(I'm a volunteer firefighter). It was a beautiful 68 Chevelle. I'd seen the car at local shows, it looked flawless. The fire revealed how much filler was on the car. I couldn't believe it. The thing was gorgeous and then after the fire everybody was saying what a bondo buggy that thing was. My response was who the F$ck cares, it looked great, that's all that anybody cared about before the fire. FYI - the fire was caused by a fuel leak under the car, sprayed onto the exhaust and caught the carpet on fire. The trunk and front clip weren't touched. It was the strangest thing. 396 was still good!

First of you are the only “You Tuber” still working out of your original garage and house for that matter, kudos to you. I am in the process of blocking my ‘66 Le Mans preparing for paint and i also had to rebuild the lower channels of both the front and rear windows and lower dog legs but it was an Arizona car. The rear decklid is also garbage but it will do, creative glass and filler work hides the evil. Thanks to you it is also getting the full UMI compliment of parts but i’m keeping the 326 and 3 speed auto because i spent the money to have the tranny gone through and it runs like a sewing machine and i already have an LS swap going in my 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and yes I am a Jeep and Pontiac guy with 3 of each and a brand new $90k GMC 2500 to haul my shit when they break down because old cars will break and we keep fixing them! Keep up the great work and keep it going!
Thanks Dalton. You inspire folks to at least try it! I mean... ya can't screw it up, if you don't try!😂 She's looking pretty good! Can't wait to see it in paint!

Growing up in a body shop and my dad showing me the trade, I wouldnt have done it any different than the way you demonstrated in the video. Thats definitely not alot of glass or mud. You used just what you needed to in order to get the panels correct. Its going to be an amazing driver, not a trailer queen. Awesome video as always buddy and really enjoyed how this project is going. Take care and ill be tuned in for the next one!
Lookin good Dalton! Yours and your Dad’s 100hrs combined is paying off! Like you said, probably the favorite car you’ve owned so far so it’s gonna be worth it! Can’t wait for the finish!! Oh and JD’s time too! You are not Trash, just the average guy workin with what he’s got, don’t need all the big money shit to do quality workmanship! Keep doin what you do with what you have!!
Lookin forward to seeing you hose some color on it. You made the comment at the end that you might be trash because you don't have a big fancy shop, and a bunch of expensive tools. Well, I guess if that defines trash, then there are a lot of us that are trash... My fanciest tool is a DeVillbis JGA spray gun that I bought new in 1990. The worst conditions that I sprayed in were when I painted a friends 23 T bucket. I painted it in his small truck shop in the winter. He put up plastic to keep the overspray to a minimum, a space heater to try and get the temp above 50 degrees, and a flood light that cast so many shadows it actually made things worse. Amazingly it turned out really good... My best friends brother had a very big body shop about 20 years ago, and he let us use an area of the shop for our race cars. Talk about being spoiled. We could use all of the tools, supplies and spray booth. It was really nice... On the other end of the spectrum, in 1991 I painted multi- million dollar motorhomes for about a year. The spray booth was almost as clean as an operating room, and we had to wear some very expensive fresh air suits because there were four of us spraying at the same time. Two on each side, one did the upper half and the other did the bottom. A regular respirator wouldn't do anything when there's that much material being sprayed... If I were to do a project now, it would be relegated to the garage or the driveway. My days of having lots of really cool tools and a spray booth are in the past.
Hey Dalton, to make life super easy when making patches lay masking tape over the hole and cut it out with a razor blade. Then you can lay it on your new metal and bam you have a damn near exact fitting patch.
Wow 🤩 great job. I'm so glad you're showing us how to get something done on a budget. This car is going to turn out great and I can hardly wait to see her in paint.
Sad world we live in that you have to defend doing body work with filler. Cheers to you for keeping this old girl on the road, can't wait to see it done. Back in the day I had a 93 Mazda Protegé, was gunna use it as a daily while I put a lift kit in my S10 blazer (I was like 18 years old, no extra money and no tools that I have today and in my parents driveway) the car was like $200 because the dude I bought it from pissed off his girl and she beat the bag outta it with a golf club. On the c-pillar there was a dent as long and deep as a football and I filled it with fiberglass then a skin of filler, made it look pretty decent and after i plastidipped the whole car (that was a big thing at the time) you couldn't even tell there was 4" of bondo on that piller. About 4 years ago I seen that car at a car meet, kid who had it bought it off the dude I sold it too and it still held up. Do what ya can with what ya got 🤷

THIS!! This is why my husband and I love your channel. The things you do prove that you don't have to have a million dollar shop and the best of every tool to get the job done. This is how my dad worked and how we work on vehicles now. ❤❤❤your channel Dalton.
I can't wait to see the finished product in person at a car show. Solid work!
I've been following you for a while, keep it up!
i love the way you do things that the average joe can do in a barn and when you say you run out of talent to do stuff. no average joe is perfect but you do get the job done to a good enough level you give massive inspiration to regular guys and girls to get these old gems up and running and looking good enough to be proud of the cars, I've got a few old cars and motorcycles here in the uk that i keep going and that are not perfect bit good enough well done dude you're doing a fantastic job, keep it up Man
Thanks so much brother
Polebarn garage totally change the way i work on cars and it has become a lot more enjoyable.
Your tune up on your Dad's GTO would be good on the second channel. I like the ominous foreboding from future Dalton, very dramatic. I definitely appreciate the SEMA quality body work tips & tricks. Barely any Butch in this 64. Can't even tell. It's the level of quality I expect as a PPG member on this concourse restoration of a Powerful Pontiac. I thought you were going to loose the shop, and then your Dad swooped in to save the day.👌🏻🤘🏻🇺🇸
I've been putting off doing body work for being scared of not getting it perfect, but pbg videos really just put it into perspective that it doesnt really matter that much, especially on a cheapo car what you do as long as it looks good at night and to a drunk. Ill do it right some day I swear, but it aint today or tomorrow and thats for sure
Good enough is literally good enough, you got this
@@PoleBarnGarage as long as it looks better than before and I'm happy with the results it's perfect
Fun story about the bag. Thought I saw an old truck of mine a few weeks ago and did a u-turn in traffic like a madman, much to my wife's displeasure, sadly it definitely wasn't mine.
Thank goodness about time we had an episode I was in desperate need
definitely a Worthy project,,,,,,, probably Not a Full restore,,,,,,,,,,,,,, give it Your best !!
It's shocking how fast someone can go from working everyday to debilitating pain. Thanks for everything you do, and the inspiration you give to people like myself to finish our projects
Keeping you and your folks in my prayers
@@PoleBarnGarage thank you. Needless to say I need it
Love this build man. When you pulled that branch out of the fender it was a new one.
This channel is the best. Dalton is legit.
Very nice just the way a budget build should be!
Look forward to the next one
The TH-cam quailty content has went down since everyone is chasing sponsors , money and selling outragiously priced merch ...it takes away the originality of making fun and knowlegable videos to watch. Alot of "TH-camrs" now are all corporate and skew any real information they were set on for "years and years" now it all of a sudden changed when money comes into play. I enjoy watching PBG , money or sponsors don't get in the way of just having fun building drivers ! Thanks Dalton for not selling out and keeping the content enjoyable to watch 👍
That's what I'm all about! Long as people keep watching and buying the occasional t shirt I can keep the corporate bs out
On top of a lot of the TH-camrs with big bucks are spending a lot of money to grow their channel. Like buying subscribers.
@@PoleBarnGarage I don't care what you say! I hope you DO get a couple of sponsors and a new shop! Money buys tools but, it doesn't buy work ethics like yours. 😁
@@pctek3511he's building a new shop
i agree.. heartally.
Saw you on Friebergers channel reppin the Goat
Good work boys! Did this exact work since 1975 whem I was 13 - like JD. Did it as side work until 2 years ago. Saved many a car. Prep well, use weld trhu priner, POR15 and kitty hair. Lasts 20+ years.
That said, I might try Rustoleum Rust Paint if I was doing it today. Heard many good long term reviews for it. Much cheaper than POR.
You are gold! Not trash.
I've never paid for anyone membership on TH-cam until now, this reminds me of when me and my dad used to fix cars in the shop (or outside under a tree) he's still alive but this channel reminds me of my younger self and my father's younger self
I appreciate that and I won't let you down!
Yes I would like to see You working on your Dad's GTO on your other channel Out side of the Barn. Looks like a really nice GTO your Dad bought to Bad the Motor started at the year of detuning horsepower nothing like the earlier Big Horsepower Motors but it still is a Awesome Pontiac GTO and that makes it perfect.
When I got my compressor I was going to bolt it to the floor with some springs to reduce vibration. A retired shop teacher came by and said to keep it on the pallet, which I did, along with a piece of threaded rod back to the wall to keep it from walking. Been that way for more than 25 years. This is a great series - keep up the good work!
What you say is good enough or just okay impressses the hell out me. The effort that you've put into this car so far is astounding.
"A grinder and paint will makes ya the welder you ain't" words to live by
Dalton you’re not trash. I believe you’re a very smart guy that knows a lot more than most of us watching and learning from you. No one knows everything there is always something here and there for most of us to store in the back of our minds to use when needed. Take care bud 👍🙏
Thanks!
Thanks so much!!
The liquid iv pbg discount was a big help! Keep it up
Dalton!!! Im in the middle of doing brake lines AND working on a cummins(but pbg is in the background, ill rewatch tonight)...they both broke the same day. Anyhow, your videos are damn encouraging, and it's excellent watching JD aquire a wealth of knowledge he will forever be grateful for. We really appreciate all the hard work man keep it up. Back to brakes 🤬
Oof, brake lines! I feel your pain
Fun fun fun! Dude 15k in 1hr look at that man. I'll have this in the background have a good one brother @@PoleBarnGarage
I'm enjoying the resurrection of your Lemans. It's going to look great! Do the video on your dad's 74 GTO.
This video is SO timely. I'm starting to work on a 64 Pontiac myself. I can't wait to jump in. What a blast it's gonna be.
Says every guy starting any project 🤣
@@RustyZipper Yep! That is very true. I call it the 'rusty bucket' and is my therapy to help manage stress.
How's the trunk lid? I know a guy who needs one in good condition. 😉😀
Yeah! Would love to see Dad's new car
Thanks.
Hell yeah man, thanks
Best most entertaining car stuff on you tube. Also love seeing your dad on the channel as well!
The Best TH-camR for Low Budget Restoration.
Doctor in The House. With Igor. 😂😂😂
Thanks for making many of us happy with the way we do things! If its safe and good enough and only you will know its there keep your pie hole closed and move on! Looking forward to the conclusion bet it will look plenty good enough and give your kid a bonus for being a good one!
OK Mr Fabricator! Awesome Job, Say Hey to your Pops!
Hell yeah that’s a good ole car that gets to keep living, watching your videos has finally give me the confidence to try cab corners and rockers on my 98 Chevy Cheyenne
Dalton. The SELF TAPPER KING..
I've never paid for membership for any other TH-cam channel, but I've joined this one. I love the content and I really appreciate you making me feel like me, an idiot, could actually attempt some of the stuff that you do. Keep it coming.
You guys must of got to it quickly, well done.

It’s a good story though so it’s important that I give the OP the reply it deserves.

@@klapaucius77 my pleasure 👍
Love this car. I think 64-67 GM A-Bodies are my favorite vehicles ever.
You're probably the best example of "perfect is the enemy of the good" wherein everything you do might not be perfect but by God it is GOOD.
Thanks man that's all I ever try to be
Also oblivion reference is not lost on me
@@PoleBarnGarage A new hand touches the Dalton!
Yeah it would be good to see more GTO footage
I love this member shit
I mean... ya can't screw it up, if you don't try!😂
She's looking pretty good! Can't wait to see it in paint!
Dear Dalton, in order to prolong your existence, please try to avoid using an unshielded cut-off wheel in such a way that if it skips it stands a good chance of severing major arteries in your wrist, (3:47) I almost died just watching! Sincerely, a fan.
Heh. I had one shatter, slice my forearm, and ricochet off of my radius. I stay well protected now!
It's so easy for a person to say wow you're doing hack work ! But I totally appreciate the tips and tricks and for what you spend your vehicle's turn out really nice !
I appreciate that a great deal
F the haters, whiners, and anal retentive curmudgeons. They can go buy a car and build it their way.....over the course of a decade. You do you.
Dalton, I really enjoy your channel. Please stop grinding, sanding and painting without a mask. Take my advice because it’s not fun later in life and you can’t breathe.
It really is hard to watch. My lungs hurt just looking at it.
The beauty of this channel is the relatability. Not everyone can have Kevin Tetz stop by and paint your car. Just a dude, his boy, and occasionally his dad working in his home shop.
Keep it up sir!
I know Kevin, ironically, I'd love to work with the guy someday
I thoroughly enjoyed this segment! Nice work!
Getting all fancy here with the departure from tractor paint.
That ride is "Simply Irresistible"
Lookin good Dalton! Yours and your Dad’s 100hrs combined is paying off! Like you said, probably the favorite car you’ve owned so far so it’s gonna be worth it! Can’t wait for the finish!! Oh and JD’s time too! You are not Trash, just the average guy workin with what he’s got, don’t need all the big money shit to do quality workmanship! Keep doin what you do with what you have!!
Lookin forward to seeing you hose some color on it. You made the comment at the end that you might be trash
because you don't have a big fancy shop, and a bunch of expensive tools. Well, I guess if that defines trash,
then there are a lot of us that are trash... My fanciest tool is a DeVillbis JGA spray gun that I bought new in 1990.
The worst conditions that I sprayed in were when I painted a friends 23 T bucket. I painted it in his small truck shop
in the winter. He put up plastic to keep the overspray to a minimum, a space heater to try and get the temp above 50 degrees,
and a flood light that cast so many shadows it actually made things worse.
The spray booth was almost as clean as an operating room, and we had to wear some very expensive fresh air suits
because there were four of us spraying at the same time. Two on each side, one did the upper half and the other
did the bottom. A regular respirator wouldn't do anything when there's that much material being sprayed...
If I were to do a project now, it would be relegated to the garage or the driveway. My days of having lots of really
cool tools and a spray booth are in the past.
2:52 if you're repairing the metal to be workable it is totally adequate. I'm already glad that you're not just mudding over it. 👍👍
Just keep showing us the ropes love watching the channels
Hey Dalton, to make life super easy when making patches lay masking tape over the hole and cut it out with a razor blade. Then you can lay it on your new metal and bam you have a damn near exact fitting patch.
Wow 🤩 great job. I'm so glad you're showing us how to get something done on a budget. This car is going to turn out great and I can hardly wait to see her in paint.
I had a 74 GTO in high School, I would love to see more of it. By the way, appreciate the old man! Mine is gone and I miss him every single day.
I miss mine too. He PAID for everything! 🤣
I have been watching for s GREAT video like this! I’m blown away how you found the best way you could make repairs with such lis standards. I tip my hat to you. I am inspired Sir and I feel like I can do anything. I will be anxiously waiting for the next show. JD is very fortunate.
I always enjoy your show, thank you. I enjoy watching fabrication work on most anything. The welding that you are able to do is good work. I enjoy the watching the body prep/ mudding, fiberglass and the sanding. Watching a car getting primer and painted is awesome as well. The interior cleaning and prep, fabricating and rust treatment is cool as well. This is going to be a nice classic Pontiac when you are done. I am sure the interior is going to be well done as well. The drivetrain and engine should be well done as well. Great show!
MrD…. It’s Father’s Day here in Australia tomorrow….. I don’t know if it’s the same for you guys, but what the Hell!….. I nominate you for FATHER OF THE YEAR 🥇 👏👏👏👏👏…. Looks great. Hope to see your Dad’s car on Outside the Barn
Thank you for doing this video. You are awesome. My son is currently doing rust repair on his 97 s10 and we are going to attempt to body work it and paint it ourselves.
I live in southwest MO. August is miserable here. It is truly awful. I have sat in a chair in the shade and still had sweat rolling off me. Nobody works outside in August unless they absolutely have to. So I commend you Dalton, for putting in the hard work to entertain us.
He lives in Northwest Missouri, just over the Kansas/Missouri line. I live in Wichita, Kansas, so I feel your pain for sure. I wrecked my van, so working on putting it back together.
Very impressed watching you teach JD how to weld, very patient.
You my friend are not trash, you are awesome dude. I absolutely looooooooove this car and it makes it that much more fun watching it built. Thank you so much
Love seeing this proper high end work, reminds me of Carter auto restyling. Equal craftsmanship really.
I have several toy cars. I have the MOST fun and get the MOST compliments in the 67 corvair, and it's bodywork is way worse than this, but from ten feet its a knockout. A CAR ISN'T FUN if it spends years in the SHOP GETTING ITS NUTS INDIVIDUALLY POLISHED, and uses up your entire toy car budget so you can never get another one!! Keep doing exactly what you're doing and may you and your family live comfortably and happily!
