"And I killed some girl with a chainsaw. I ha-ha-ha-had to *crying* she almost got away!" Then it turns out Paul Allen is still alive and he realises he is just a crazy psychopath imagining all this as such a loser. Yeah this movie is awesome. The total dissolution of his cool, calm demeanor into a maniacal killer is so entertaining. He doesn't know what the fuck is going on anymore, and I think that's really well-done. The utter breakdown of his well-maintained lifestyle into a single night of insanity is unbelievable.
Honestly, some of his killings seems to be hallucinations if you think deep about it. The killing spree: I think honestly the entire scene is an fantasy: First notice how all the citizens seems to be not noticing or caring about any gunshots at all, for example the old man at 0:57 notice how the old man walks by even thought at that range he could've clearly heard that gun shot. Second: The police shootout, i will mention the fact that he managed somehow to do the impossible: Explode an police car at that angle with only some few bullets, by the way the fact that no window or wall or Bateman himself got affected by the explosion sharpnel, so that likely didn't happen at all. Would likely to mention that if the explosion really happened that man at 2:07 did not even heard it and seems unbothered about it, also the janitor didn't hear THAT clear shot. The Chainsaw scene: Maybe bateman killed those two hookers, but it was in another way. The scene we saw was probaly an fantasy of him after he killed the two hookers, first: He seems to like chainsaw killings as he saw on a scene on his tv was playing the classic Chainsaw Massacre (1974). So Bateman clearly wanted to kill someone with an Chainsaw (Even thought it was unlikley he would have one) Two: His neighboors are not even hearing the woman screams an the chainsaw sounds during the chainsaw chase scene at all and it is most likely how he imagined the event. (Also the hookers bodies we see are probaly his imagination too).
@@selfinsertedchudvz341 yeah when i first saw him look at his gun in confusion, combined with the other unexplainable parts, i started questioning if any of his killings were real to begin with.
What scares me is that when you take into consideration the gun he has carries up to 16 rounds (15 in the mag, 1 in the chamber), and the fact that he fired around 15 to 16 shots throughout this whole scene, he probably didn't end up killing the last guy because he knew he ran out of ammo.

yeah, the authors of the film say all the kills were real, but it contradicts the entire film and even the book. In the book it mentions Patrick going on such spree but he entered a dreamy, almost third person state of mind, and that doesn't explain the ending very well when the guy he thought he murdered is still alive after he tried to confess it to his lawyer only for his lawyer to say he ate lunch with him a week ago.
This is so Grand Theft Auto. Guns down a civilian and the police appears instantly, he completely ''vaporizes'' two police cars and then goes on a killing spree. After he finishes he flees to his safehouse while a cop helicopter is sweepin' nearby. Patrick = Trevor Phillip's Father.

Granted, Joker is not a sacred role, but saying any good actor could play him is just as silly as saying any good actor could play any character. If that were the case, casting wouldn't be a thing. Age, body type, tone of voice and looks matter. If not, I want a Batman movie with Jeffrey Wright as the Joker and Danny Devito as Batman.
I like the scene where he blows away the cop and the squad cars just explode taking the other cops out with them. This is surely a sign that this entire scene is in bateman's head. There is no way he would have been able to just simply walk from killing that many cops without anyone noticing..
I think this scene didn't happen at all, this was just his deteriorating sanity. From the "feed me a stray cat" that the ATM screen asked for and the 3 to 4 bullets that blew up two cars i think this was all in his mind, even the calling the lawyer thing. If you dismiss this scene from the film the ending makes sense a tad bit more.
Bateman is very loud in his madness and even firing his gun. and when he tries to open the door of a car, he doesn't worry about betraying his position ... all this is a sign that some things were happening in his head
The Guy, Huey has been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In ‘87, Huey released ‘Fore!’, their most accomplished album. Because it’s not only about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trend, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself... HEY GUY!

This is probably one of my absolute favourite scenes in the film. Aside from the Paul Allen scene and the Business Card scene, this scene is very captivating. In fact, I like a lot of the scenes in the movie it's hard to choose one. American Psycho is also my number one favourite film and book.
@BlacksVideos I recall this excerpt in the novel and I became thoroughly perplexed at Bateman's mental state and how he began to gradually delve deeper and deeper into sheer lunacy and bravado. Thus he describes the bench as anamorphic. A very surreal yet fascinating character
I was thinking the exact same thing as I was watching the movie, but the author of the book said that all the killings are real and none of it is in his head. The message the movie and book is trying to send is that some parts of our society have become self centred, naive, and egocentric. So much so that they would let Bateman get away with what he's done. Frankly, I agree with this. That's why I love this movie so much.
The ATM displaying "feed me a stray cat", *blowing up a car with two shots* and if you read the book it shows Patrick going into what is described as a dreamy 3d person state of mind??? but also the directors said it was all real, there is no real answer to whether or not he was hallucinating if you listen to what the directors said. But just looking at the film and book, It has overwhelming evidence that these were hallucinations but not every kill throughout the film was a hallucination.
I think what happened was patrick bateman unknowingly purchased High Velocity Explosive or Incendiary Rounds somewhere on the black market, and since he is a person with substantial income it would make sense for him to buy custom made rounds, whether he knew this or not.
Did anyone else notice he completely passed by a man walking along the sidewalk with his bike when he was setting off the car alarms. The guy with the bike seemed completely oblivious to Bateman as well, seeing as how he didn't even react to what he was doing.
This is obviously a very important part of the movie to be left ambiguines. I've always believed Patrick Bateman was some sort of schizophrenic and this could possibly be an episode of that. This scene makes total sense with the stray cat. Plus, he somehow was able to use a Glock 17 (A Weapon That Just Came on The Market and was used in a few movies at the time) so I'd imagine he thought of the Glock 17, a gun that just came out, and plus he probably doesn't own a gun or even know much about guns. So, he used a gun that was just becoming popular. Once he shoots the woman, the police show up 5 seconds later, so he probably doesn't know much about police response time. And I know this movie takes place in 1988, and they were using 1980s NYPD Caprices. But it wouldn't blow up. He probably saw in some film a gun can explode a car, which is true, but again he doesn't know much about guns. His own knowledge would be very important in a hallucination. I think it's possible that he may have gone out of the hallucination for a moment, when he looks at the gun. I believe it ends when he gets to his office, and him shooting others is probably a hallucination as-well. Also, the chainsaw scene and Paul Allen Axe Scene are possibly hallucinations. So, some of the killings are probably hallucinations. But that in the movie there is not evident voices we here when he kills people in an ascendable way. So, I don't have much sympathy for Patrick's real killings. But I do empathize with Patrick's hallucinations. But again, it's left ambiguous, so yeah. Also, the hallucination ends when he gets to Pierce & Pierce, so the gunfight with the police and feed me stray cat and shooting the janitor, old lady, and security guard are hallucinations. It ends when he gets to Pierce & Pierce Building, which makes sense because he's finally at a place where he feels safe, and it ends. But again, the whole lawyer and Harry's bar part could be a Hallucination. Also, BTW I am not an expert on how hallucinations work and mental illness. So, believe what you want to believe about the movie.

Really does hammer home the point of the film where the midnight watch calls Bateman "Mr.Smith".
i cant be the only one that laughed at 2:02 through 2:23
+craig lloyd no...im still laughing, the way he nonchalantly pulls the gun out to kill the guard in the wrong building, and when he goes in the right building and greets the guard while hes out of breath, LMFAO
Dont let casuals get in the way of your grindset, shooting them at point blank range is the sigma move 💯
2:10 i thought that was the funniest kill out of the whole movie hahaha xD
"Tonight I uh...hahaha... JUST HAD TO KILL A LOT OF PEOPLE! Hahahaha."
2:48 when you finally get to school and you know you're late af but you still have to get a pass from the office 😂😂😂 #relatable #illstop
This is the cinematic version of dicking around in Grand Theft Auto IV when you don't feel like doing any missions.
Bruce Wayne going berserk so that Batman can stay relevant
2:03 see this is where the film genius of this movie kicks in, Patrick Bateman has forgotten his sign-in password and could not be bothered to receive an email to reset it
FEED ME A STRAY CAT!

I agree cats are food.
Kung pao kitten...
Walks directly past a subway station...
This is why you never eat people's brains. It makes you go nuts.
But I don't want to impose on anyone and tell them not to eat people.
Just avoid the brains and spine and you should be good to go.
Oh ymean kuru the disease you get from the protiens unique to human brains i think. I get around it by boillng said brain then frying it in a scrabbled egg fashion after. Takes a little while but so far im good. :)
When I saw him react to the explosions and look at the gun like "wtf" I knew he was imagining all of the killing.
He must've damaged that last car he kicked.. What a bastard.
0:36 GTA V Michael in Freeroam
3:24 Michael at the therapist
I love his facial expressions after the shootout with the cops.
This is the scene for me where the scales of believability started to tip and I thought maybe it was all in his head. I'm still not sure. It can be interpreted in many ways.
Does anyone know the classical music in this scene?
I love the music playing at 2:26 can anyone tell me what its called
"Here kitty-kitty"
-The Batman
2:13 - When you're late for work and you forgot to kill the maintenance guy.
