1959 Dodge Late-Night Sketchiness and More Classic Tires!

  • Time to tidy up the 1959 Dodge Viscount and park it on the "lot" here at the CWMC used-car emporium! This rare Dodge Viscount is a one-year model for Canada, the equivalent of a Plymouth Fury. She is in poor condition after sitting outside for many years, but I think we can make her presentable enough to display in the yard here.
Also featured here is a somewhat ambiguous episode of "My Classic Tire" where we never actually quite managed to ascertain the make or model of the featured rubber... Once I realized it was a retread, it made sense why we couldn't read it.
Hubcap anoraks will have an easy time with this week's challenge... normal people maybe not so much, haha!
I patched up the front fenders where an old attempt at repair had fallen apart, and just wanted to dust-in the spots enough to make the car look less derelict. While we were at it, we put a few tires together for it so it would hold itself off the ground.
This Viscount is not really restorable, but it is still an interesting addition to the "lot" here at Coldwarmotors! The floor is long gone, and the engine is seized up, but I still think it needs to be preserved since there can't be very many left.
Thanks again to everyone who subscribed to our channel here; I appreciate all of the "likes" and comments, and try to answer as many as I can... Please subscribe so I can keep at it... I'll be doing a lot of fun projects this winter, but meanwhile there's this...
All the very best from me and Stella and little Francine (who wasn't born yet when we shot this little masterpiece...).

If I ever had the resources to own property away from everyone in the sticks. I'd surely do something like you are. I'd build 2, 100' long open sided carports, facing each other in a V about 80' apart at the widest. Grade in and install a nice lawn in between with an awesome fire pit in the center. Fill the sheds with old relics that would never see the road again. Polish up the chrome, and at night in summer by firelight, beers , friends and music, enjoy the reflection of all those awesome front ends staring out at us till the birds sing. Keep up the great work! Cheers.

Love the latest episode from the backyard of 4doorland in Sask. I've fixed carbs, brakes and motors in the dark, but bodywork and paint matching by porchlight is another level of technical achievement, especially when high and buzzed. Good work agents.

I love these old Mopars but they were real rust buckets in no time. I am surprised to see any of them still around above the Mason-Dickson Line. That one does make a really nice piece of "Yard Art". Love the videos. Keep up the good work. Paul.

Yep. It seems the more elaborate the design, the worse it rusted. You see far more unrestored examples of the older, boxy, late 40s / early 50s MOPAR than you do the Exner styled stuff.

That Dodge is a thing of beauty! I could spend days wandering around looking at your cars. They best part is they are the 4 door sedans folks drove around all the time. Shows how much more style and class they had back then even in their mundane everyday vehicles. Thanks for preserving these babies.

The headlight brows look fantastic after repair and paint! Assuming that 1959 was the last non-unibody year, one could envision a perfect universe in which the 361 cid could be unstuck, the body could be lifted off the frame, tidied/painted, new floors built, and this venerable Mopar made handsome and roadworthy. Like manly men, it's the last of its kind.

    • @coldwarmotors
      @coldwarmotors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey thanks for the note! Yeah, everything is restorable, but in a case like this, the car is not worth near what it would cost to restore. If it were a 2 door, it would be a lot closer, but 4 doors have a certain value, regardless of how rare they are. This is the only 59 Viscount I've ever seen, so I'm going to save it... maybe someone someday will feel like doing it, but for now I'm going to spend my effort on the prettier 2 door hardtops! Cheers...

As often, the car looks decent in the video, really not too bad...apart from the missing floor you can clearly see in some shots. Too bad the engine is seized, would be a nice "Will it run?" episode for sure. You guys really did a great job on the Fender repair, looks good and the paint match really turned out nice! Love the dual antennas! Although they are not "Christine correct" I was always looking for a set of these, hard to find in good shape...oh and once again I must admit that your yard looks amazing. What an amazing view to enjoy every morning...how about some old "used cars" signs to make it look like an abandoned 50s car dealership?

I Think that is what the Hollywood studio prop men do to provide street scenery in movies, just splash some paint on and park it by the drug store (nice background sound effects)

Yes they were exported to here, but only big corporations and few very rich people could afford to buy them back in the day. It was same thing with all north American vehicles.

Well, it's done turned near wintertime down here in Kentucky. And me and Wifey have marked off our territories for the duration. She allows she ought to have extra space for putting up with me and The Poet, making out it's some ordeal. I point out to her that she should view the upcoming enclosed months as a chance for her personal enrichment while she's making the biscuits and such.
The Poet don't allow a good goddamn unless he's knee-deep in my liquor cabinet.
Another waste of time and energy...
    Exner's Monument
    Check out the Dodge, Rog...
    Just a-hanging at my door.
He's still got a roof, but he ain't got no damn floor.
Well, hook up the tank, Frank...
    We'll paint this scoundrel true.
He won't be brown, and he damn sure won't be blue.
Now pass up the roach, Coach...
This job is damn near done.
He's some improved, but he damn sure will not run.
