Well, as a Brit (and native English speaker) your English pronunciation is great, and your accent is beautiful. I know that doesn't do anything about the hate, but you just keep doing you. Your videos are entertaining, fun and interesting.
Yeh from my experience its usually english 2nd language speakers that get pissed about English. Most actual english people are used to loads of acceents.
Native English speakers have lots of different accents, Irish, Australians, Texans, all speak very differently. Many don't even speak correctly and it's the only language they speak.
I am American. Everybody English speaker has an accent. Mine is due to where in the USA I live. You don't have an accent like mine because you probably didn't grow up there, duh. I like especially like to hear you speak German, go to English, back to German, etc...good job, keep doing what you do.
People just love to judge Germany just because of it's evil past. Germany has changed for the better. The United Sates and Germany are even great allies now. People love to hate Germany cause they know that they're too weak to fight back. Which is really sad. No one even talks about how much pain and suffering Germany went through during the cold war. Everyone thinks that it was just an American vs. Russia war, but Russia decided to invade Germany and try to turn it into a communist nation. So Russia built a wall separating Germans from other Germans. In 1961, Russia invaded Germany, but sadly Germany couldn't defend it's self from the Russians. A wall was made separating the west side of Germany from the east side. The west side remained capitalist, but the east got infested with communism. Russian guards would always patrol the wall, threatening anyone that came next to it. Countless Germans died from starvation and protest. Then the U.S started invading Cuba to make sure that their communist ways would end. Russia say this as a threat to their Union, so they decided to defend Cuba. This gave the Berlin wall have less security. Fewer guards patrolled it. Some Germans took this as an advantage and tried to hatch an escape to East Germany. Most of them failed. The Germans stayed low and prayed for the Americans to help rescue them. Years into the war went by but no signs of American rescuers were seen. Germany started losing faith and just kind of gave up. After the war, Russia went back to abusing Germany and making them their slaves. Years went by, and thousands of Germans were dead due to Russia, but in 1988, a small group of Germans came together and started a secret rebellion. Russian Soldiers turned up dead and no one knew who did it. The German Rebellion decided to start something big that would impact all of Germany for the better. In 1989, Protest were shown around the wall. First it was a few then it was hundreds and thousands of Germans taking down the wall. Russian Soldiers informed Russia and asked for reinforcements. Luckily, Russia was too late. Germany broke the wall and all of them were together again. They kicked the Russians out of their country. Germany rebuilt their society and made a well needed alliance with the United States. That was the Cold War from the German perspective. 🇩🇪
I've been told that as long as it's clean to understand accent doesn't matter at all, plus it makes people unique and, speaking of which, yours is charming as hell. Keep it up the good work!
I'd totally agree with that. I've been told I have a bit of a strange German accent because I've merged my English one with the people who taught me German. It can be understood but it's nice that it has a history to it, like my English accent does.
I also agree. As far as it is understandable, it is ok. The easier to understand, the better it is. Geordie is also english, but god damn, I only get a few words! Even cockney is better than that! Indian accent might be somewhere on the edge, depends on how hard it is. But yours is awesome! Easy to understand. At the end of the day, that is the important part.
@Ella Reed If I travel outside of Western PA I'm marked as a "yinzer". I can pick people from California, the Mid West and South pretty fast. Trixie worked hard on her English. Her grammar is fine, better than many native speakers.
@Ella Reed You were sticking up for yourself. I didn't take what you said as "mean" but as assertive. Please keeping doing the right thing for yourself and thank you for explaining yourself.
As a Californian, I find your accent to be quite pleasant to hear and I think that your language skills are exemplary. Please continue to do what you do.
I’m an American who lived in Munich for 5 years and have heard many Germans speaking English. You have only a slight accent compared to most. You should be proud of your accomplishments. When I speak German or Russian, It’s pretty easy to tell I’m American. But nobody has ever shamed me into not trying. Stay strong and remember it’s their problem, not yours.
Native English speaker here (U.S. Midwest) and long-time follower. I have *never* had any trouble understanding your accent, Trixie. You do have an accent - but is is *definitely* intelligible. If you mispronounce a word or choose an unusual word or sentence construction - I see those as insights into the way German works differently from English. That can reflect back and give me insights into the way my native English works. I love those moments when I think, "Aha! You know English IS really weird sometimes!" Keep doing what you're doing. Love it!
I'm currently trying to learn German and this is an amazing video. Honestly, you speak better English than many native speakers in the U.S. and your accent is no more distracting than a strong southern accent here. Keep up the good work and keep on sharing!
You are doing a great Job Trixi and your English is very good and most important clear and presented in a funny way. The people that make these negative comments are actually jealous and / or frustrated about their own mediocrity! Continue like this!!
Jealousy. Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy. That's literally the only reason I can think for anyone to be so mean. Block them all and keep doing what you're doing. Love your videos so much. ❤️
If you block them, how can you educate them? let them see you're not afraid to take them on, highlight their intolerance, shame them. If you block them, it sends a signal they've gotten to you, they'll see it as a victory.
@@silkaverage Either is good, depending on how you yourself react to the hate. Not much point in publicly shaming an anonymous account without a profile picture. As I say, whatever works.
I'll admit that publicly shaming does have it's drawbacks, but the fact she even made this video in the first place was a very smart move imho, and you're correct, there's more than one way to skin a cat :)
I agree, it must be jealousy. My native language is spanish, but I speak english and german and I can understand you perfectly. Actually, I watch videos in english and german to practice and improve my abilities. I enjoy your videos and will continue watching . Do not mind haters that do not want to improve themselves and want to stop others from doing so.
As an American, I think your accent is wonderful! Your English is amazing, and you're always perfectly clear and concise. I've watched you for years and I've never had trouble understanding you! I think native speakers often forget how freaking hard this language is to keep track of. I can't imagine taking on English as a second language, so any time I see someone do just that I'm automatically blown away. You should absolutely be proud of your English proficiency, as well as your accent and your German heritage. Accents honor where you've come from, no matter where you find yourself.
I really enjoyed this video, and it really resonates with me as a learner of the German language. That is one thing that I worry about personally sometimes, that I am making too many mistakes, especially with my pronunciation. Fortunately most of my friends and family are very supportive, especially my few German friends, and that makes a huge difference in wanting to keep pushing forward. No one should put you down for learning, and it takes time to reach a point where you feel confident. I think your English is very clear and understandable, and understanding each other is what language is all about. Thank you very much and I look forward to your next videos!
As an American, I'm impressed by your language skills, and like your slight accent. And I don't understand why anyone would dislike you or your videos.
Can that crap about Brits or Jews. Or feminists, for that matter. It's probably nationalist Germans who did not do well in school with their English. Losers. No American would ever criticize her for her accent, either, as we have so many other language groups that we encourage everyone to learn to speak half as well as Trixie does.
I have so many thoughts on this. FIRST: Your English is great and your accent is cute. It is in no way annoying. You don’t sound unintelligible. English is my native language so I think I would know more than someone whose native language isn’t English how good your English is. Trust me, it’s good. In fact your English is so good that you are an inspiration to me. Which is my second point. Your English is so freaking good that I think about it every time I watch your videos. I am trying to learn Spanish and I always think that I wish I could learn Spanish and be able to speak it as well as you learned and speak English. Third: this kind of criticism absolutely affects language learners. I’m often afraid to speak Spanish because I’m afraid I’ll have a terrible accent. And I’ve seen other people being made fun of for their accent. It holds people back which isn’t cool. And fourth: why the hate on accents anyway? Accents sound interesting and neat. Sometimes they sound cute or sexy even! Why are people hating on anyone’s accent?! I guess because people suck sometimes. Anyways, keep up the good work. Your accent is cute, your English is great. Ignore the haters.
I agree! She's a HUGE source of inspiration. I'm over here trying to learn German, and every time I get discouraged I come back here and watch a video of hers. She learned and uses English fluently with German as a first language, so what's stopping me from doing the opposite?
As a native Spanish speaker, I feel respect for those who try to learn to speak Spanish. I think it's a matter of being brave to take such a big challenge.
I find your English to be quite good. And I think you speak eloquently and with declamation, as befitting any proper German. Please keep it up, and I hope you don't let the jealous haters get under your skin too badly. You are an adorable young lady and I look forward to your videos. Big thumbs up! Keep on doing the great job you always do! :-)
Hi Trixie, I was raised in the USA by Austrian parents and to this day, every time I go back to Austria I am terrified to speak German to anyone outside my family. They can tell right away that I was raised abroad and always have to either comment on how “American” my accent is or go straight to speaking English like somehow my German isn’t worth their notice. Not once has a random shopkeeper or other stranger commented on my German being “good.” On the other hand, I learned Chinese fluently and lived in China for many years and Chinese people always commend me for how good my Chinese is and how much work it must have been to learn it. So, I understand where you’re coming from. I’m so sorry anyone would ridicule your excellent English. We can just each do our part to encourage foreign language learners and do our best to ignore the haters. I enjoy your videos very much.
there's a vital reason why there's a difference if your case, which is very not-politically-correct, at least to 2020's social media/societal norms.. ethnicity/'race' or how you look is certainly still very much attached to more traditional cultures and civilization; translated to: if you are born ethnically Chinese and speak with an even slight accent , especially in the rural area and not modern cities, local ppl will give you the same response. Since I suppose that you are European/white and maybe by looks also Austrian, they expect much 'more' from you.. just how traditional human culture works again, modern culture want to push for language to be separate from ethnic/identity, which is a relatively new (and very odd to many still ;) phenomenon.. works a bit different with every ethnic/'race' groups or their history of moving around/immigration etc; in the case with black people, since they have exited the continent for so long now, the expectation that anybody know the local African language/dialect is overall relatively low.. but ask any overseas Brit/European Nigerian etc whether there's expectation back home when they're foreign born and raised on their 'weird accent' ;)
I can't stop LOVING your German accent because you are a wonderful person with an amazing sense of humour. It's obvious that English isn't your native language, but you are very proficient in English and your pronunciation is usually accurate with slight (adorable) mistakes. I can 100% understand what you are saying and am always willing to advocate for your videos to friends of mine who have any interest in German because you have such a positive influence on the German/English focused community. I'm very proud of you for your ability to speak English and German so well. Don't let the haters bring you down!
You can 100% understand what she is saying? Thank God! For a second there she was probably thinking she was speaking some kind of gibberish. Luckely you reassured that her attemp to speak english is in fact understandable. Oof! Yes I agree, we always have to give credit where credit is due.
You're fabulous. Really. No one told you that you had to become a vlogger. This is something you love doing and providing to us FOR FREE. Know that with every hateful troll out there, the rest of us, THOUSANDS of us love you and what you have been sharing with us for the past several years.I hope this finds you well and happy.
I follow you from Mexico. I consider myself a good English speaker and now I try to learn German, your channel (among other things) has really boosted on me the interest to learn, and I think that makes you valuable beyond any criticism. I consider your accent clear, easy to follow and to understand. So far, your channel is an inspiration for me to keep going, learning new words and phrases, and all in all, on a very funny way ;)
I agree with everything you said. You have only a slight accent. GREAT JOB! Much better than I have been able to do with the few languages I have tried. Unfortunately, haters gonna hate. It is their problem though and people need to understand that some people hate on ANY accomplishments. That's what they do. They do not deserve the time of day. I for one am glad you are doing videos in English because I don't understand German. This is the second video of yours I am watching. The first was on the English words that have no German equivalent. Great videos!
I’m an American, and I say I love nearly all foreign accent and I particularly love your accent! ❤️❤️ But then again, I am an avid studied of history and it has helped me to appreciate things like this.
As a native speaker of both languages, I think you speak English exceedingly well and your passion for this channel makes you a very valuable member of the TH-cam community and for any of us with an appreciation for either language! Anyone who is sad enough to leave a negative comment is unfortunately very unhappy and/or envious. I’m sorry that they insist on posting their own dramatic negativity for you to see.
Citrus Blast, I actually love how the OP wrote it-it gives it such an endearing yet funny touch (in the most positive way). That’s how friends are made-you laugh WITH each other, not AT each other. :) And though I don’t use the term “cute” very often, I can’t think of a better expression for the OP’s use of “Dumkops”-my new fave word of tge day! :)
The world is full of bitter and jealous people, whose sad pathetic lives are spent trying to hurt others. You are exceptional, your language skills, your creativity, your humor and your parenting style. You are damn near perfect. 😊
Your English truly is great! Accents are beautiful! They make you who you are! As a learner of German and French, I find myself afraid to speak because of many of the things you mentioned. I agree that helpful comments are good! I love having people correct me kindly. Every now and then tiny phrases get mixed up (around 6:00 in the video you say “so far off the truth” when most would say “so far from the truth” instead) or the syllable stress may be in the wrong place. But these things are small and I hardly notice them unless I’m listening very closely. You certainly speak English fluently and are extremely easy to understand.
DontTrustTheRabbit Muah muah muah muah muah I kiss you from head to toe everything about you is beautiful if I had you in my life my heart and soul would be yours, my heart slows down when I see you in these videos because you are so beautiful to me, I would do anything to kiss you muah muah muah! And dont be upset, in my opinion the English language when accented by Germans sounds interesting and calculated and has a zing and I really love it, don't mind them you're English is more attractive than theirs :] muah
I have taught EFL/ESL for 30 years; your English is superb and better than that of a lot of native speakers. The tiny accent you have (don't lose it) is charming and, I am reluctant to say, sexy... Most of all, your videos are smart and insightful. Ignore the idiots and carry on!
As an American from California I think your English is much better than many English speaking people I talk to. Ich liebe deutschland and seine menschen. Dankeschön!!!!
People always confuse "good English" with "accent-les English" your knowledge of vocabulary and linguistics is huge! And I would definitely say that you're fluent since native speakers can easily understand.
There's no such a thing as "accent-less English" Like americans say that they dont have accents and british do the same but if you move a british to america and an american to Great Britain they suddenly have an accent.
Your videos are great and English is wonderful! I LOVE your German accent! Please delete those negative comments - this is your channel and you are encouraged to remove nasty, negative, hateful comments. Flush the haters and stay positive as you are simply delightful!
I recently began watching your videos in the morning because hearing you makes me happy...your spirit/humor....when I found your channel I wasn’t even trying to learn German but even though That is not my goal I so enjoy listening to you talk....I say all this to point out that as an English speaker I am use to hearing Non native speakers with accents because so many people try to learn English and it’s not annoying or unusual really. I like your accent please don’t change it. I doubt you’ll see my comment but thank you for your channel........also thanks to your channel I found mariebelle tv and it’s helping me learn Spanish so thanks
You may or may not have a German accent that I as a non native speaker can't detect. Does it even matter? What matters is that anyone can understand 100% of what you say. I, on the other hand have an unashamed Indian accent, and why shouldn't I? I *am* Indian. All that matters is that the next person should get what you say. Der Unterschied: you make videos for public benefit, I don't. People hear you and some nitpick out of habit, they don't hear me so they can't. You are doing an absolutely great job. Keep going und alles Gute!
ah well she has a kinda strong German accent but nonetheless her English is super understandable and very clear. And I, too, think it's horrible to shame people for their accent because well, what should they do? just.. not speak a foreign language? I think that would be a very sad thing to do and a huge step backwards, I mean isn't it amazing how English can connect people? no matter which accent someone has..
Well, when you read many thousands of comments on YT you might have found also hate comments regarding grammar or syntax ;) I am not a native English but German speaker. Even if somebody would speak proper German: there are many different dialects. Haters will always find ways to insult people.
Sometimes I wonder about the virulent hate comments on TH-cam (being fully public, this platform takes the champion's trophy in that regard). I wonder how they hate so much and still live with their own minds? As if the time available to any of us wasn't short enough.
Your accent is lovely and musical, and your mastery of English is superlative. You adeptly select just the right phrasing to convey not only information but humor and subtler emotions as well. Here in this video, for example, while discussing a topic that is obviously somewhat difficult, you interject humor (the joke about cup size) at just the right moment and in just the right way. This shows not only a profound level of competence in the basics of a language but an understanding of the metrics and nuances of the language. Simply put, your command of English is indeed amazing, and I both enjoy and appreciate your efforts. As for the trolls? The paradox of social media is how anti-social so much of it really is. I've seen cute videos of little, playful kittens that inexplicably inspired some troll to post some vile comment. Alas, some people just like to watch the world burn. These people are desperate for attention but so lacking in social skills that all they can do is throw stones. And if they weren't so jealous, they wouldn't have bothered commenting in the first place.
I get comments like this all the time but honestly most Brits are not able to tell that I am German so what someone on the internet thinks really doesn't bother me anymore. But I agree it's often Germans who try and belittle me online. Which is messed up 🙄😂
Hello Jen, as one of your sub's I can attest that your English is extremely good with barely any foreign traces showing through. In fact you've virtually got the Estuary English accent totally off pat. Ps. when is your next video coming out as you haven't put anything out for a month.
I love your accent and by the way is such an important part of who you are. Don´t let them make you feel bad about yourself. Sending lots of love on your way.
I love how you psychoanalyze your haters like this 😁 in seriousness, this is super important, thank you for talking about it and for encouraging other language learners. Accents are beautiful and make languages colorful and diverse, and that's something so valuable. Keep up the great content, Trixie! 😊
As an American, I love your accent, as well as your channel. I learn a lot about Germany from you, and I find that you are humorous as well. People who hate on you about your accent are idiots, it sounds great. My grandmother came from Friedberg, Germany. You speak English very well, but having the accent is great, I miss my grandmother's accent, and the way she would say things. I think that having the German or any accent or dialect says that that person is from a certain country, and they should be proud of that. So I find your channel, and various other German/worldwide channels delightful. I am studying German and culture, and find your tips on the language aspect to be very helpful. I would surely hope that no one could dissuade you from further producing content or anyone else with an accent from for that matter. Thank you for not only sharing your accent, but also your language, and culture with the rest of the world.
As a native English-speaker, and son, grandson, descendant of native speakers back to the beginning of the language as a Germanic dialect, I say that your accent is fine: true, it's not a native's accent; but it is COMPLETELY intelligible -- and intelligibility is the entire aim of speech. In addition, you show better grasp of English grammar, syntax, and vocabulary than some native speakers! Yes, your guesses at the motivations of critics seem to me, too, to be correct ones: jealousy, subterfuge, and other meannesses -- not inability to understand you (save, possibly, for a few persons who are just learning English as a second language). (Full disclosure: although I am a native speaker of English, as a small child I spoke German, too; however, I don't believe that this ancient fact influenced my contentment with your English.)
I love your accent, and accents in general. As you say, it is really difficult to learn another language so it is something to be proud of. Accents make our languages more colourful :)
No one ever really knows their own native language until they learn another language. That was one of the first things a language teacher told me, and it stuck. That teacher did more than just increase my vocabulary. I learned a bit, for the first time in my life, just how many dialects exist in German and English, too. I also learned about some differences in languages, such as the "active" quality of German, and I love hearing accents (any accents) because I get clues about how to actually voice words and how to give expression in another language. It was such an interesting experience for me to take a German class in high school from a teacher who spent years studying the language in Germany and wrote extensively about dialects. One day in class he remarked to another student that she had a very nice Bavarian accent, and she was shocked. She said, "I didn't know I had an accent." Our teacher told her, "Well, you have two of them." I've also discovered, since those days that my brother and I have very different accents. We grew up in the same household, but somehow, he developed a way of speaking that one generally only hears in a particular neighborhood of Chicago, and the only time I sound remotely like him is when we talk to each other. It's odd how we sometimes mimic one another... which might be a sincere form of flattery. I have known many English speakers who went abroad and came home again with an accent they were not always aware of. Most people were quite envious. When I moved from Chicago to Arizona, it was many years before I picked up some regional speech patterns, and I was really surprised the first time I realized that I was addressing family members back home as "y'all." My suggestion to the haters, out there, is to lighten up and learn to appreciate differences in the way we speak, so they can be a little more appreciative of their own. And if they don't think they have an accent of their own, eventually someone will point it out to them. It might be pointed out in a positive way, but there is a good chance it won't.
It's not just accents. People always want to find a way to bring negativity into any situation. Whenever I talk about something I really like someone always tries to tell me how much that thing sucks.
I’m a native English speaker and I think your accent is fine. As I think most native speakers will agree. It’s not heavy at all. 7:06 I was thinking jealousy might be on of the reasons. Wishing they could speak another language or speak another language as well as you. I’m learning Japanese and I hope to visit Japan at some point soon. I’m a little self-conscious about my pronunciation. Whether I’m saying things correctly.
I wish my English was so good, and I've been speaking it all my life. Your voice is melodious and pleasant to listen to, and I find the accent wonderful and charming. I suspect most of the hate is from jealous people who don't have your mastery, wit, or charm. Ignore the haters and keep doing what you do.
I still do, most of the time I don't mind these comments. Just every once in a while there is that one comment that gets to me. Other than that I made this video to encourage other language learners who may be more vulnerable and insecure. :)
Lass dir eins sagen: Neid!!! Ignore the haters.
My German instructor is a native German from Ulm. She teaches German, French, and I think sometimes English. She is a U.S. citizen and has lived here for over 40 years. One of the things that frustrates her is that she has never been able to lose her German accent. I'm thinking, "You speak four languages fluently and are qualified to teach three of them at a college level, and you're bothered that you have an accent!?" I found out the hard way that at almost 52 years of age I'm now too old to learn to speak German, which I have been trying to do for four years, unless I spend a couple of years living in Germany or Austria. When I returned home to Las Vegas from Frankfurt am Main two weeks ago, which was my second trip to Germany, and far from my last, I realized that I'm never going to learn German and I should have just kept my Spanish-speaking skills from 30+ years ago. I have great respect for people that speak more than one language, and having an accent in a second language is just the way it is. If people give you crap about your accent, it's because they're jealous (like me) that you can speak more than one language, and they can't. So don't bother yourself with stupid remarks by low-class, low-intelligence morons.
Meanwhile, studies are showing that to master whatever skill - up to a 'professional' level - only needs constant repetition, and that's it. Even babies learn to talk whatever language exactly that way, so it seems not that complicated right! Invest 10.000h (that's the magic number!) bc it's as simple as that, and yes, it's never to late*. Never ever. Niemals! Viel Glück :o) * And even if the whole thing is about to impress that nice waitress (and make your wife even prouder of you) with ordering "einen Sauergespritzten, und einen Handkäse mit Musik" in German.
To me your accent sounds like you were taught English by a Canadian, which btw I don’t mean anything bad by it, if anything I think it’s cute! For a foreigner your English is incredible, don’t let people make you feel bad or bring you down, you are awesome keep doing what your doing! 🙂
I agree, Ben. But I also think Trixie would do quite well in Ireland. I recently found out that many of my fellow Germans from Cologne emigrated 2 Ireland and contributed not only to the gene pool there but to bringing with them very successful farming methods. And Trixie looks like she could be one of my German or Irish relatives! :-) and I really like the way she says her R's. She would be speaking like an Ulster woman in no time!
My brother in law is Irish, I believe he was originally from Belfast and was the last of his siblings to be born there after his family moved to Australia. He hasn’t got the Irish accent though as he was only 3 months old when he came here, he speaks very quiet and very fast sometimes so I can’t always hear what he’s saying lol!
I have 2 autistic children & 1 autistic nephew. Some autistics have Very sensitive hearing so they whisper everything & try to avoid loud sounds. Alot of autistics are extremely smart so their minds work at a fast pace. Some of them speak very fast. I'm not saying for sure he has to be autistic but might be worth getting him checked out. P.s. my 2 autistic children are very affectionate, so the generalization that all autistics are stand-offish is not always true.
in all honesty the reason i love watchin your videos is because you have the courage to do your videos in english and still have a fresh perspective on either languages and try to atleast pinpoint certain aspects/dialects etc.. plus i am a fellow german who fell in love with the english language as well as an english speaker, so it is part of my everyday life too, so it is nice to watch someone do it similarily, as well as your english being so much better than the average german (who speaks english); most people are under the impression that germans speak and know english well enough, but it is horrible to listen or speak to when you know how it should sound (and you are definetly not part of that group) ps: just watched a vid from 3 yrs back and comparing that to a recent video you english has still gotten so much better and still it was good then too
As a native English speaker for 3+ decades, I think you're doing great. Better/more comprehensible than some native speakers, as others have said. And I'm sorry about the hate comments; that's sadly how a lot of people unfortunately are. Just keep on doing you; you're great just the way you are.
In Canada even people who live already live here for 10 years still sound not native and still stutter in their pronunciation. Asian Canadians , white canadians , brown canadians and black canadians do all have their own kind of accent or way of saying things. I believe there should not exist something as an ideal model for speaking english.
You are so right. I am always charmed, impressed, grateful and feel so respected when someone has made the effort to learn English. It opens the world to me to hear accented English; and I can't wait to see if you are from somewhere I have been/85 countries--or not been/ whatever. I speak 5 languages and have found that each time I learn a new one I learn yet more about my own language. So--to hell with the haters. Gute reise, And to all students of languages--we have a special gift that helps make the world go around.
Your German accent is hardly detectable. The only time that a foreign accent causes a problem is when it affects understanding. My primary goal in learning a foreign language is to be able to converse, not to speak with a perfect accent, although that would be nice. I find it ironic that some radio and television personalities make fun of some well-known person's foreign accent, yet often they speak only English. Doesn't that reveal their own ignorance?
Come ion trixi doesn't like a native speaker, but fact is she's fluent, her grammar and sentence structure is perfect, vocab impressive. What else can a non-native English speaker wish for? 95% of Germans don't even close. She can be pretty proud of herself.
i guess this german phrase has been passed down and americanized by a veteran from WWII? actually it's Schweinehund (sing.) / Schweinehunde (plur.) but i totally see why english speakers have trouble with an mid word 'e' ;)
Love the phrase schweinehunds xD as said it would be schweinehunde but its still a great description of those kind of people...here is one from north german: Doofköppe (Doofköpfe=Silly Heads)
This is ridiculous. Your English language skills are fine. Your vocabulary is good and I would say that you speak English fluently. Your accent is barely noticeable. I am learning Swedish and if I went there I'm certain that I would have a strong "American accent" and I don't care. An accent is just a function of time and immersion. Anyone who disses you for your accent is an idiot.
I think your accent makes you unique, and I love it!! You speak very fluently, and you have a stronger mastery over the English language than many native speakers. Sometimes you say a word very differently than it is normally spoken, using incorrect stress or vowel pronunciation. In that case I might call you out, but only for constructive criticism and your improvement. Thank you so much for making this video and giving the language learning community a little pep talk. We need more of this.
I'm russian, and i learnt english as my first foreign language, german as second, spanish as third, korean as forth, and now i'm learning japanese. I'm a perfectionist, so i thought that i should imitate the original pronunciation as best as i can, but of course i can't get rid of my russian accent from time to time! Especially intonations, oh, that's a hard work to do 😂 anyway! I've never heard about this problem before and usually people praise my pronunciation - but it's just because.. ja, they have no reason to hate me when we talk face to face. TH-cam is a platform for "cooling down". People know nothing about you, you don't see their face so they think they can pour their fears, anger, misfortunes onto you, and it'll help them to "cool down". And then they forget about you as easy as writing a negative comment... so, just think that they are poor and you're rich. Because you know twice as much as they do! And there'll always be a punishment for them.. in this or that way*)
I am German and love listening to Russians speaking English or German, because I really like the sound of Russian accent. I totally understand the longing to speak free of accent - but oh, Russian accent is so beautiful!
They enjoy the idea of ruining someone's day & chipping away at her self-esteem. They are sad pathetic people who have no life & hate themselves more than anything else, so they have to make others sad to make themselves feel better.
Your words are beautiful, truthful and illuminating, your accent is a work of art and ignore the trolls, they are all emotionally broken in some way so they take out their problems on others instead of taking responsibility and fixing their own problems. You are a beautiful person in every way and we appreciate the excellent and informative videos you make for us.
I can't believe there are people hating on your beautiful accent?!?! Your English is perfect, and I actually love your accent. Whoever is hating anyone because of their accent in my mind is jealous, racist and simply idiotic. You sound awesome and you are just amazing.
And really a lot better than those people who's native language is German and attempt to type comments here in this beautiful place, the internet. 😊
Momentan ziemlich schlecht???
I'm an American and I love your accent "my step-mother's is much more pronounced". Some years back when I spent about 6 months in Germany I found that as well as my American accent my command of the German language was only about on par with a 3 or 4 year old, so I was rather incomprehensible. No one gave me any trouble over it, heck many tried to help me improve.
Your English is good. You enunciate well. The internet is full of people who like to hide behind their keyboard and say cruel things. Just ignore them. I enjoy your video content.
For sure her English is much better than most of the Germans I know. Some celebrities use an English to 'away yell' ("wegschreien") and 'foreign ashame' ('fremdschämen") such as Lothar Matthäus. PS: Ich bin Deutscher.
@Diana Day: "Hallo" and "Englisch" are the German forms of "Hello" and "English". Since Trixie is a German, so the usage of German words is normally accepted.
My husband started to watch your videos when he started to learn German. It helped him understand that he doesn’t need to sound perfect and he stopped expecting the same from me :) thanks for that
Yes but fluent doesn't mean that you have no accent. Fluent only means that you can talk freely without any stuttering. I have no problems writing in English but sometimes I still have to look up some words but I am very far from being fluent, sadly. I don't have too much opportunities actually use my talking skills.
I never understood this. I’m American we get people from everywhere in the world visiting here and I LOVE hearing people’s accent speaking English. Actually after hearing other Americans all day hearing someone speaking my language with a whole different accent sounds nice. It’s like hearing their mother language being imprinted on my language. I also am really good at guessing where people are from just from their accent when speaking English so I think it’s fun too. It’s a psychological thing I think. I’ve always been fascinated by people from other countries. I always found other cultures fascinating. I grew up in a medium city in the middle of the US so I only met someone from another country every once in awhile so when I did I was always excited to talk to them and learn about where they’re from. Anyone who actually gets upset about this is a kind of person you don’t want to interact with anyway.
I love to hear foreigners speak English with an accent no matter what country they are from. I give them credit for learning the language. Make love, not war! Keep up the good work Trixie!
I am German, too, but I will comment in English as well because I want everyone to understand what I want to tell you: 1. Yes, you do have an accent. But it is far from the "worst" I have ever heard. I actually only notice the "Auslautverhärtung" often, but you can pronounce the /th/ and you are clearly understandable. 2. I am quite gifted when it comes to languages (with Spanish being my best foreign one), but I do have an accent as well. In Spanish, they even don't recognize it as a German accent, but only as a "not native" one. I'm kind of proud of having advanced to the next level, but I wouldn't mind if I stay there. Why? Because people normally like it. I have never been talked down because of my accent by native speakers. The only ones who did this are Germans as well. Leading to number 3: 3. Then I tell them that we all have. Especially them, although they think they have the perfect pronunciation. They haven't, they just don't hear themselves. Yes, there are who almost have no accent, but these are normally people who have a university degree in English and/or have passed quite some time in these countries. So it is natural that they are superior to me, but seriously: wouldn't it be sad for them if I were the same level as them without having dedicated that much work into it? 4. According to my experience, this only happens with English. As everyone here had it in school, they think they are experts. When I speak other languages, one does not get shamed like that. 5. Having an accent means that you at least know a second language. Besides, it gives personality to your way of speaking ;) 6. Being from Bavarian, I do have an accent in German as well. I don't care, it is part of who I am, and why should it be any different in foreign languages. 7. I don't understand why they want you to make your videos in English. You are explaining German things. Germans don't need it explained to them, so why not taking the global language to reach as many viewers as possible? To summarize: Trixie, keep on doing what you are doing. You have an accent (as do I), but it's not as bad as they tell you. As you already said: they just want to hurt you. Don't let them have that :)
I am a native english speaker and there is nothing wrong with your accent, it is very slight in my opinion. You speak very clearly and easy to understand. Plus you are funny. Some people like to put other people down, and are hyper critical for some reason.
As a native English speaker, I find that your accent and pronunciation are fine. It is fascinating for me to learn about the German language and your comparative linguistics videos are always well done. I especially enjoy the collaboration videos that you do with Dana from Wanted Adventure.
Agreed
Native English speakers have lots of different accents, Irish, Australians, Texans, all speak very differently. Many don't even speak correctly and it's the only language they speak.
Totally agree. Her English is better than you hear in a lot of UK towns. In Luton or Bedford your lucky to hear English at all.
anything other than england isnt native english....that colonal english ;P
1. Accents are cool.
2. Haters are lame.
3. I wish that I could speak a second language as well as you speak English.
Accents are cool, haters are lame.
Don't be a fool, play your own game.
Thank you.

I am American. Everybody English speaker has an accent. Mine is due to where in the USA I live. You don't have an accent like mine because you probably didn't grow up there, duh. I like especially like to hear you speak German, go to English, back to German, etc...good job, keep doing what you do.
I thought you were going to rymhe
Me too.
Actually, I find your German accent quite beautiful too. Don't be afraid to be yourself!
Yes

As a English man whose ancestors can be traced back 100s of year's I find your accent reassuring and honest. Don't stop being you.
Funny enough I have a Geordie accent and it comes out more in my German than English as people do struggle to understand me!
Agreed! Her accent is lovely and charming.
“Speaking without an accent“ is like saying “typing without a font“.
I type without a font them

@Ella Reed If I travel outside of Western PA I'm marked as a "yinzer". I can pick people from California, the Mid West and South pretty fast.
Trixie worked hard on her English. Her grammar is fine, better than many native speakers.
@Ella Reed Just adding to your discussion. You are totally correct in that we all sound normal to ourselves.
You speak English better than a lot of people I know. I'm from the USA
Ain't that the truth!
Her English is better than some of the English people I know here in England.

that’s nice, just slag of the English....
USA speaks in 0.7 languages on avg. Lel
I can say the same, especially since I am from the south east. People butcher our language down here.
Your English is just fine. WTF accents are actually fun and add quite a lot of flair.
You know English IS really weird sometimes!"
Keep doing what you're doing. Love it!
WildStar2002 I agree.
"Your accent tells your story" 👍
You have a big heart and love what you do, it makes me very happy!
You're awesome, and the work you put in is greatly appreciated :)
I'm currently trying to learn German and this is an amazing video. Honestly, you speak better English than many native speakers in the U.S. and your accent is no more distracting than a strong southern accent here. Keep up the good work and keep on sharing!
Yea, there are plenty of Americans with lousy pronunciation.

I would just like to say that that was beautifully worded. I could not agree more.
Aww, thank you so much! That made my day.
@@Moonguided You're welcome. :-)
And I don't understand why anyone would dislike you or your videos.
...errr her accent is better than almost all USA, love Britian :P . But seriously if look studies into most polite people online UK is second....
Your accent is beautiful, Trixie. You make me feel more comfortable learning and speaking German. Danke!!
Your accent is sooooo pretty and I love it!! I also love when you speak German, you make me want to speak it too!!
My thoughts as well! And I love this video. So well spoken, as always. :)
Speak American and speak english is to different things pretty much.
Aren't I supposed to write a comment here saying her accent sucks?
just get a life....
Since I suppose that you are European/white and maybe by looks also Austrian, they expect much 'more' from you.. just how traditional human culture works
again, modern culture want to push for language to be separate from ethnic/identity, which is a relatively new (and very odd to many still ;) phenomenon..
works a bit different with every ethnic/'race' groups or their history of moving around/immigration etc; in the case with black people, since they have exited the continent for so long now, the expectation that anybody know the local African language/dialect is overall relatively low.. but ask any overseas Brit/European Nigerian etc whether there's expectation back home when they're foreign born and raised on their 'weird accent' ;)

Citrus Blast, I actually love how the OP wrote it-it gives it such an endearing yet funny touch (in the most positive way). That’s how friends are made-you laugh WITH each other, not AT each other. :)
And though I don’t use the term “cute” very often, I can’t think of a better expression for the OP’s use of “Dumkops”-my new fave word of tge day!
Whaaattt? I actually love the accent
Thank you, it took me a while, but now I like it, too!
I love it too!
Thats so true 😁
Every part of it 😉
As an American from California I think your English is much better than many English speaking people I talk to. Ich liebe deutschland and seine menschen. Dankeschön!!!!
People always confuse "good English" with "accent-les English" your knowledge of vocabulary and linguistics is huge! And I would definitely say that you're fluent since native speakers can easily understand.
There's no such a thing as "accent-less English"
Like americans say that they dont have accents and british do the same but if you move a british to america and an american to Great Britain they suddenly have an accent.
Great point.
Your videos are great and English is wonderful! I LOVE your German accent! Please delete those negative comments - this is your channel and you are encouraged to remove nasty, negative, hateful comments. Flush the haters and stay positive as you are simply delightful!
That would be censorship, and that's not Trixi. She feasts on emotion, good or bad.
I wonder how these German haters sound when they speak English
Probably like shit. LMAO! Hehe
Hallo dis iz nod a gut englisch accident ... acent AKZENT lmao that's how i imagine them
You may or may not have a German accent that I as a non native speaker can't detect.
Well, when you read many thousands of comments on YT you might have found also hate comments regarding grammar or syntax ;)
I am not a native English but German speaker.
That indeed *would* be most unfortunate if no one spoke anything except their own MT. Tower of Babel, anyone?
I think your accent is really nice and a pleasure to listen to!
And your English is very impressive, as well.
American here. I honestly LOVE your accent!!
Oh mein Gott ich liebe dich lol
Es sind immer die Deutschen.
Its spelt Psychoanalyse love.
Mansplaining much?
bastard kraut destroyer! Psychoanalysis (noun)
Psychoanalyze (verb)
It is probably spelled a little differently in British English
I don't hate your accent, I love it and could sit and listen to you for hours.
She said, "I didn't know I had an accent." Our teacher told her, "Well, you have two of them."
I've also discovered, since those days that my brother and I have very different accents. When I moved from Chicago to Arizona, it was many years before I picked up some regional speech patterns, and I was really surprised the first time I realized that I was addressing family members back home as "y'all."
My suggestion to the haters, out there, is to lighten up and learn to appreciate differences in the way we speak, so they can be a little more appreciative of their own. And if they don't think they have an accent of their own, eventually someone will point it out to them. It might be pointed out in a positive way, but there is a good chance it won't.
I think forgein accents are hot
EVER HEAR a KLINGON LOVE OPRA????

Thank you!
Watch your 100k video. That is priceless, the way you turn criticism into humor and entertainment. I loved that video. 😊
I still do, most of the time I don't mind these comments. Just every once in a while there is that one comment that gets to me.
Other than that I made this video to encourage other language learners who may be more vulnerable and insecure. :)
Lass dir eins sagen: Neid!!! Ignore the haters.
Genau.
I love accents in general and like you very much too! Keep up the good (and funny) work!
You CAN do it! It'll just be harder, but it's not impossible. I believe in you!!
Never ever. Niemals! Viel Glück :o)

And even if the whole thing is about to impress that nice waitress (and make your wife even prouder of you) with ordering "einen Sauergespritzten, und einen Handkäse mit Musik" in German.
P.s. my 2 autistic children are very affectionate, so the generalization that all autistics are stand-offish is not always true.
in all honesty the reason i love watchin your videos is because you have the courage to do your videos in english and still have a fresh perspective on either languages and try to atleast pinpoint certain aspects/dialects etc.. plus i am a fellow german who fell in love with the english language as well as an english speaker, so it is part of my everyday life too, so it is nice to watch someone do it similarily, as well as your english being so much better than the average german (who speaks english); most people are under the impression that germans speak and know english well enough, but it is horrible to listen or speak to when you know how it should sound (and you are definetly not part of that group)
ps: just watched a vid from 3 yrs back and comparing that to a recent video you english has still gotten so much better and still it was good then too
As a native English speaker for 3+ decades, I think you're doing great.
Her accent is adorable! I have an amazing friend from Germany, and it reminds of her.
Dr Metal is it me? Your friend?
I love accents, they are beautiful and unique! Do what makes you happy, you are very easy to understand and I think your pronunciation is great!
Don't let the schweinhunds get you down, your accent is amazing & you have taught me much about Germans and Germany!
i guess this german phrase has been passed down and americanized by a veteran from WWII?
actually it's Schweinehund (sing.) / Schweinehunde (plur.) but i totally see why english speakers have trouble with an mid word 'e' ;)
Love the phrase schweinehunds xD as said it would be schweinehunde but its still a great description of those kind of people...here is one from north german: Doofköppe (Doofköpfe=Silly Heads)
of which there's also a variation that is 'torfkopf (sing) / torfköppe (plur)' that literally translates to turf head...

"You English is annoying!"
The party that left this, I have to wonder why they are watching this channel. Do they enjoy being annoyed?
They enjoy the idea of ruining someone's day & chipping away at her self-esteem. They are sad pathetic people who have no life & hate themselves more than anything else, so they have to make others sad to make themselves feel better.
@Satisfactory Bagelfreund exactly!!!

Liebe Trixi! Bitte mach Videos in Italienisch - Du wirst das sicher schaffen. Btw. like Your content - keep up the good work - Alles Liebe
Regarding to other comments in this channel I would guess because of the boobies.
I think you speak elegantly, never stop making your videos!
Hallo I am a German to and I think that you speak Englisch verry well!
For sure her English is much better than most of the Germans I know. Some celebrities use an English to 'away yell' ("wegschreien") and 'foreign ashame' ('fremdschämen") such as Lothar Matthäus.
PS: Ich bin Deutscher.
Lothar Matthäus?? I believe I spider! That comes overhead not in the bag! ;p
I think im breaking together!
@Diana Day: "Hallo" and "Englisch" are the German forms of "Hello" and "English". Since Trixie is a German, so the usage of German words is normally accepted.
Ginny Weasley JA SAME
@Ginny
Wirklich?
My husband started to watch your videos when he started to learn German. It helped him understand that he doesn’t need to sound perfect and he stopped expecting the same from me :) thanks for that
Your English is better than mine and I’m a native English speaker
I'm English and your English is fluent.
I am German, too, but I will comment in English as well because I want everyone to understand what I want to tell you:
Leading to number 3:
Besides, it gives personality to your way of speaking ;)
My girlfriend is German and I think her accent is sexy
That makes two us ;)
My sister's boyfriend says the same thing! Hahah NICE, Man! 👌
