There is no typical American because the U. S. Is a multi ethnic country. You would have to stereotype all Europeans all Asians Latinos and of course native American Indians and just about everything else. Then figure out a way to wrap all that up into one human. That would actually look really funny now that I think about. But that is exactly what most Americans are. A mix of culture. But you know the thing is it always makes me laugh how people in Other countries will say an American is fat lazy or stupid but yet more than 78 of Americans either come from another country or have ancestors that came from another country so basically people that are from other countries that rank on Americans or actually ranking on their own people. This always cracks me up

I live in Vienna, Austria and it seems like the "All Austrians wear lederhos'n or Dirnd'l, live on the 'Alm' in the Alps, ski all the time and only eat Wiener Schnitz'l"-Stereotype is actually quite widespread among international guests. And with that picture of Austria come many questions over the lips of the tourists. For example a tourist once asked a guide on Stephansplatz "And where are the alps here?". He wanted to know where in Vienna the alps where... And a lot of people that I heard from, that are not from Austria, were surprised, that they didn't see anyone in Lederhosen in Vienna. It seems Austria is still seen as a country that is totally cut of from society in a dale between the alps.

Oh, great! Now my monitor has wet bread crumbs on it! That was the toes' fault. Where was your helmet with the horns, valkyr, and why was there no Wagner playing in background?
I think good sterotypes are helpful. But obviously most of them aren't that good. Like the one that Germans have no sense of humour - absolute ballony. Other streotypes of Germans... they shout, a lot. They love David Hasselhoff, Google, sauerkraut and classical music. They are very formal, wear school teacher clothes and high heels and suits and call you "Herr" or Frau". Germans are obedient and follow rules.
Well I'm a Finn. Basically most people don't know Finland exists or where it is. Commonly mixed with other Nordic countries. BUT if someone for some reason has heard of it.... Our Scandinavian neighbours seem to think Finns always carry a knife, and for fun stab each others... or some other people. And internationally Finnish stereotypes: Finns don't speak. Except when they have cell phones. Finns are obsessed with electric gadgets, maybe because they help you not to speak and introverts find computers a good company. Finns don't show or don't have emotions. Except when drunk and they are often drunk. They are pagans and witches and shamans. Everyone listens heavy rock, and highly possibly is a member of a band. Finnish house is called sauna.. or igloo. Reindeer herding is a common livelyhood in Finland. Finns are related to seals and feel no cold, they can walk nekkid middle of winter in the snow and take swims in the hole of the lake, because their physiology is somehow inhuman and cold has no effect. Finns can slide on ice without falling and babies learn to ski and walk same age. Finnish national dress is windbreakers and white tennis socks. All Finns love salty licorice. Finnish kids are just really smart and well educated. There is no corruption and Finnish politicians mean the best for their people, mass media is honest and you can trust anybody. You can't learn Finnish, because it is the hardest language, basically impossible to learn. Finns speak Swedish as their second language. Finns don't like Russians, and even less the Swedes.

    Please admit it, Trixie!
Everything you said, other than the outlook, is really extremely typical super german- especially the strictness with paperwork, Germans worship the paperwork!
The facial expression is also as you depicted. Been in Germany for 3 years now and have never met a German who smiles!!!
Weather is exactly as described, but this is something we can't criticise, because people have no influence on it, on the contrary it may be a contributing factor to the typical facial german expressions :)

72modi You must live in the wrong part of Germany. Come to Cologne, we like to smile and laugh over here. And only a select handful of Germans love paperwork. Most people hate it.

to be fair, I live in Hamburg and i can say the constant rain stereotype is well deserved. It took me a while to figure out what that warm bright thing in the sky was today. I'm from Australia and until I moved here I didn't realise it was possible for so much water to fall constantly from the sky.

America is one giant Stereotype, which is why the wisest Americans brush it all off and make fun of each and every stereotype. It is cathartic and helps to pull you back to reality and recognize that everyone on this planet is the same, despite the obvious differences.

IDK, the Dirndl and braids looked fantastic, and I happen to go for sausages and potatos and beer lol!
There's always a kernel of truth in stereotypes, and while it may not be endemic of day to day Germans, there are definitely some associations. There IS way more organization and punctuality among Germans than with many other peoples. The last time I was in Europe, after having issues with trains in Holland and Belgium, I actually said to myself "I just have to get across the border back into Germany and everything will be okay; it'll all make sense and everything will be on time", and it was! And, there are a lot more good beers, and good beer influences, that have come out of Germany than any other place. I live in an area known for small breweries, and a lot of the local brews can trace their roots and influences back to Germany =)
Lastly, organization; there have definitely been times at work when I've inherited a grabasstic disorganized mess, and then sighed and said to myself "f***; this needs a German!" and then put myself into my most German mindset and dug in--and after quite a while, I was able to get everything ordered, sorted, accounted for, labeled, the works!
Sometimes you've got to be proud and embrace your heritage!

I am from Hamburg. I am from Northern Germany. I am so much fed up that all stereotypes of Germany are in fact Bavarian which is just a part of Germany (or not Germany at all). What about our beautiful northern culture? Nada! And in Austria, Dirndels are way more often worn than in Germany. And Sauerkraut is extremely popular in the Alsace and Champaigne regions of France, they literally eat it as a side dish every day ... Stereotypes are so annoying ... And the most well-known German food store in Los Angeles is the Alpine Village, only Bavarian stuff ...
